I can't say this applies to every associate, but the majority of them- including "managers" are absolute snobs. First experience; It's my day off, so God forbid I want to dress comfortably and wear my sweats and a hoodie, not bummy by any means, just stylish and comfortable. I had the intention of buying 3, THREE full size Ariana Grande perfumes. I stood by the perfume area for 40 minutes. So many workers walked by including managers- but couldn't be bothered. I was very frustrated, so much so that one of the makeup staff noticed my frustration and asked if I needed help, and left their area to come help me. (They are like a diamond in the middle of a heap of coal, and I appreciate them). I proceed to the register area and lo and behold a few of the associates that WALKED RIGHT BY were all congregating at the register desk. Not actually working on the registers- just standing around giggling and gossiping. I did not want to be a Karen. But I had to say something. I asked for a manager, and one bravely stepped to the plate- prematurely assuming she was going to shut me down. Oh honey, no. Unfortunately for her, I noticed she was the manager that walked right by me with her nose snubbed in the air. I let her know how rude her and her staff were with the exception of the one sweetheart associate. She didn't even apologize. She just stood there annoyed with an "as if" attitude. Months later... I still had a sour taste in my mouth from my first visit, but I had no choice. My foundation was in store only, so I had to suck it up and go. I went inside and I didn't recognize any of the workers, it seemed like all new staff. I don't think it would be far fetched to assume they have a high turnover rate. The atmosphere was still snobbish, but it's Boujee Brentwood, par for the course. I found a few extra things, bringing my total to an expected $100ish. As I was standing in line, I overheard cashiers asking the other patrons if they wanted the free samples. I remember now that usually Ulta will give free samples with a minimum purchase. As I finished checking out, I noticed the cashier did not offer a sample. I didn't want to be a beggar but I quietly asked anyway. She acted like I was speaking Alien, and asked for a managers help. He wafted over and gladly asked what he could do to help. She told him I was asking for free samples and he quickly changed his demeanor from glad to perturbed. He loudly invited me to see what samples he had available, making a scene and announcing the inconvenience of having to go through boxes of samples behind the register. I was humiliated, oh but that was a mere taste of what he had in store for putting him out. He made sure to raise his voice when offering me each sample, individually explaining their benefits. He proceeded something to the effect of; This one is for WRINKLES, This one is for BAGS under your eyes, and this one honey- you could really benefit from this, if you use this every day- YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO USE SO MUCH MAKEUP. I was absolutely embarrassed as I noticed every customer in line was staring at me with mixed reactions of either empathy or enjoyment. I have ZERO wrinkles and I barely had any makeup on that day. Never, ever again. If I have to buy anything from Ulta, I will only ship. read more

I went to pick up my order at curbside pick up. Not only do they not post the phone number to call for curbside pickup up but when I did finally find the number (via Siri) and call I was immediately put on hold. I was right outside the store and could see at least 4 salespeople standing there. I waited on hold for 3 minutes then decided to walk in where I then saw it was 5 salespeople up at the front counter, some just standing and chatting with each other. What is the point of curbside pickup if you are just left on hold and need to walk in anyway. read more

It was my day off for myself so I did self-care and treated myself! I don't get much time off for myself, so this can be a rare time for myself. I went and did my eyebrows with Michelle! She was great and this is the second time I have gone to her - just saw her the first time as I was shopping! It is great Ulta has this in their store! They also will offer threading, but I did waxing and she shaped it up beautifully! Then I saw people at the salon. It has been a long time since I even had a cut or color. I asked did they have any time to fit me in? And it was a Sunday, which is hard to find people who do this on Sundays. The girl, Shireen, was perfect! Honestly, I wasn't sure at first since I am conservative and traditional in beauty and she had bright yellow hair which I told myself have an open mind! But she did a gorgeous job and I love the color! The cut was pretty too! She did an awesome job! So ask for Shireen! People were complimenting me even as I sat in the chair and I was grateful she was able to fit me in between clients even. So really happy with Ulta and its services- never even thought to use them here thinking maybe not as good as regular salons, but I think they were great. Also, it was cheaper than my usual which I could be spending 300. Plus. So saved money there as well- haircut was around 50. Color(2)/highlights and gloss/toner cost around 200. I decided to go to Ulta as I needed to purchase last minute items for my trip. The last time I went to an Ulta location was years ago. I experienced an extremely anxiety-inducing & uncomfortable experience at this location with the workers smirking at each other as you're walking by or consistently behind/near you as if you're going to do something wrong - staring at whatever you want to purchase. There was also Dawn who rang me up and asked me to confirm my name before adding my rewards. What was the implication of this? With others she did not do that. So uncomfortable. Charisse is amazing! Another stylist cancelled on me 1 hour before my appointment and I needed my hair curled for an event. Charisse stepped in and came to my rescue even rearranging her schedule to ensure I would get to my event on time. I have been shopping at this Ulta for many years since I'm a local resident and for the most part like their products and prices specially compared to Sephora. I hadn't done online order with in store pick up in a while and did two orders back to back and went in store to pick up. First thing first the girl working the in store online order pickup kiosk was not very friendly . Now in her defense I'm going to give her a pass and assume she had a long day because I went to pick up my order in late afternoon and from the looks of her she was very pregnant . So I am going to give her a pass for she was working while almost getting ready to be a mother and I'm sure it's a very tiring job. But I felt rushed , was treated rather rudely and I asked if she had any complimentary samples and they straight up said NO! And I quote "but if I was you I would keep on asking everytime because that how I will receive them " lol it really took me aback . I had asked for samples before and they are always very very generous and mind you I spent over 80 bucks on two orders so I wasn't some annoying freeloader trying to get free stuff. Not only that she rushed me so much that I forgot to even notice that they had not given me my gift with purchase product with my order . Although she did ask me to check my bags for correct order and I did but I was so rushed I forgot that it didn't had my free gift with purchase . Anyway I picked up my order and left . Came home and contacted their online support to complain regarding my order and missing gift with purchase . It took more than thirty minutes for the online rep to understand me . I had given him pictures and receipts and what not and he was just clueless . In the end I was irritated and fed up said thanks to him and just left the chat . THIS STORE USUALLY GIVES GOOD SERVICE BUT PAST FEW VISITS IT HAD GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORST. I'm gonna come out and say what is obvious is that I think Sephora being a bit more luxe is well worth it because Ulta has given up and I am very sure I will be shopping at Sephora next time for not only their staff is kind and sweet , if I ever had an issue with my online order ( which hardly ever had ) their customer service went above and beyond to take care of me . This rating is based on the service that I FINALLY received AFTER I approached a sales clerk name Pamela. Going to this physical store (shopping in person vs. shopping online) confirms why I don't like shopping in person at this location. Admittedly I don't go out of my way to go to Ulta for my beauty supply needs. I go there when I'm already going to be at the Streets of Brentwood or there's a great sale that I can't miss. Otherwise I go to a closer store for my beauty supply needs or shop online. The reason is because 99% of the times that I've gone into this Ulta store, I'm ignored. No greetings of any kind or asking if I was in need of help. This was the case whether the store was busy or not. This happened again this morning when I went into the store soon after they opened at 10am. When I walked into the store I noticed a blonde woman at the counter. She did not greet me so I went to where I would find the products that I wanted. While looking for my items, I heard other shoppers being greeted. ((Sigh)) I found two of the three items that I wanted. After not finding the third item I was looking for, had to finally ask a sales clerk (Pamela, who just finished helping another customer) for help. She was efficient, but wasn't the friendliest while helping me look for that third item. Pamela ended up being the person who rang up my items. I made small talk with her and fold her to be pleasant. That was the best part of this visit. That's the only reason why I gave three stars instead of something lower. Until the staff learn to be attentive or just courteous to ALL (basic greeting upon entry like in Bath & Body Works), I will either continue to shop elsewhere or shop online (if I see something exclusively sold by Ulta). read more

Tierra in the fragrance department is AWESOME! I took my friend's kid to a near by painting class and we had about 15 minutes of time to kill and went to Ulta to shop. Tierra greeted us and asked if we needed help; my friend's kid was looking for a fragrance that was not yet released. She was very knowledgeable and told us when to come back and get the fragrance. In the meantime I told her I wanted to get the Moroccan shampoo and conditioner and she was excited about the product and said it was released today! After 15 minutes and $100 later my friend's kid and I left with a lot of fun stuff! Thank you Tierra for your knowledge, suggestions and friendliness! Customer service is everything and you made my friend's kids day with your perfume selection! (We will come back for the newly released one, but she loves what you suggested). He was incredibly helpful and went out of his way to check how many points I had and asked if I wanted to use them for my purchase. He also offered me a sample, which not every cashier takes the time to do -- regardless of how much I'm spending. On top of that, Jordan was genuinely friendly, had a smile on his face the entire time, and made me feel very welcome. I loved Ulta salon. Easy to book an appointment and Autumn used to be great. I set up an appointment for my daughter for partial highlights and ended up a full day paying for a full highlight and partial highlight, not sure if that makes sense. Not what she asked for but it's fine. The one star review is for service and a huge disappointment on how our experience went. Appointment was for 11:30am. Autumn calls right at 11:30am asking if we can come in at 11:45am, sure no problem. We come back and wait for another half hour. Finally seated but Autumn doesn't even start on my daughter until 1pm. This whole time she's working on someone else. I get it, you're busy. But why think it's okay to keep pushing back our time? I know why and I'll tell you. So she's in the chair and someone else comes over to help, all the while Autumn is still working on another customer. It's now 1:30pm. Now 2:30pm. Autumn takes another client. It's now 3:30pm and she's still not done. Now it's 4:30pm and she's taking another client. Talk about maximizing and multi tasking. It's now 5:30pm and I had to ask, Autumn how much longer? They are now wrapping up my daughter with someone else helping Autumn. We come to check out and Autumn tells the register to ring up a full highlight AND partial highlight with olapex. The gal at the register says out loud, are you sure? And Autumn says yes, otherwise she "wouldn't get paid more if it was booked the other way". Now that we've spent 6+ hours and hearing that Autumn just cares about being "paid more" is just a huge disappointment. Further, no one asked if she wanted the olapex treatment. So between taking 3 other customers in between my daughters appointment and her "partial + full highlight" taking 6 hours, I am very disappointed to be treated this way $354 later. How would you feel if this happened to you? That's not a nice way to treat a repeat customer. I'm not sure if we'll come back again. read more

I went to their Salon to get a wash treatment and flat iron... who knew a blow dry would not be included in that ( an extra 45 bucks) I asked if she could just charge me for the blow out add on which is only 21 but of course she said no, Shireen was nice as she could be and gave me a good wash treatment, however, I'm a black woman and I came in with my hair already combed out and sectioned so she wouldn't be overwhelmed, but she kept making comments about my hair and she did a horrible job on my flat iron and my hair came out horribly, it was a waste of money and I really could have just paid for the wash and blow out, the results were really quite embarrassing, some of the other employees were clearly shocked at how bad the flat iron turned out, there was actually ANOTHER hairstylist there who offered me to come back if she had any cancellation and she would fix it, but I had already paid over 100 dollars already and didn't want to risk more money... if you're a black woman, book with the black hairstylist if she has any openings read more

I came in on Saturday, December 23rd, to get my makeup done for my birthday. It was my actual birthday. I had a good experience with Fatima getting my makeup done. She was very sweet and informed me of the products she was using. However, this review is based on the customer service I received after my makeup appointment. After my appointment, I was rung up at the salon, and I asked the cashier if I could pick up my birthday present while I was there. She let me know I could go ahead to the front of the store to pick it up bc that's where the presents were kept. I walked to the front pick-up section, one of the girls working there asked me what I needed, and I had told her I'm here to pick up my birthday present. The girl told me I needed to stand in line ( there was a very long line) to pick up my present. I told her that I just got my makeup done and the cashier to me. I could pick it up in the front. The girl then told me that they ran out of birthday presents, without even checking. I'm so confused as to why she would ask me to stand in line to pick up my present. If 2 seconds later, she told me there weren't any left. I'm so disappointed in this customer service, esp bc I spend hundreds of dollars at Ulta throughout the year. I had an issue with my birthday gift and not receiving the email for it and it was already 8/1. Taryn quickly offered me an option to call customer service and possibly get it resolved if I had a few minutes. I have honestly never had such a helpful and caring experience let alone at any Ulta location. I usually feel rushed or as if the person checking me out is inconvenienced if I ask for a sample or my gift. I ended up receiving the code and Taryn also offered some suggestions and tips for makeup and how to use my promo correctly. I am seriously impressed!! Thanks so much!! Do yourself a favor and don't get a hair cut here if you value your time and money. Especially, if you want latest trend or anything new they are NOT as competent. The ladies are great! they are very courteous, welcoming and nice. If you just want generic haircut or trim then may be they are ok but definitely NO GO for anything fancier than a trim! I showed up for my appointment 5 mins early and receptionist checked me in and said I needed to wait. Turns out the hairdresser I had booked was seriously backlogged, she literally started her previous client at the time of my booking, and I had to wait 30 mins for my appointment to start. NO ONE came and apologized for the long wait, I just sat there in disbelief. Fine! she was nice & friendly so I let it go, I showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted, she took a glance and then start chopping my hair so short that I came out looking horrible. I left without much fuss but secretly vowing that I was never coming back ever again!! I did the same mistake last year where my colorist at another high end Salon in Walnut Creek said she was overbooked so she couldn't accommodate my hair cut so she requested me if I could get haircut elsewhere so that she could color my hair. Ulta was my only option for last minute so I showed the hairdresser exact cut I wanted and she ruined it. Luckily, my colorist was able to work with it and this year I gave them another chance. Not too many people know that the salon can do black hair, but not only that, Shanelle did an awesome job on my dreadlocks!!! Including wash and moisturizer, dreadlock maintenance, and style! My daughter explained how she wanted it done & even showed her a picture for reference. She did total opposite and had an attitude when we tried to her it was not right. It took her over an hr to finish. Maybe if she didn't smoke WEED before she started we would have had a different outcome! Just so unprofessional. I have another complaint that I will do another review on and also contact customer service after I finsh this one.
