My lovely wife comes here because she likes the stylist who does her hair. And after four or five visits, we've yet to have an appointment go perfectly well. Each time, the stylist has been overbooked and so a ninety-minute appointment for color and cut took well beyond two hours. Once, they did the wrong color. We thought we could solve the late running appointments by getting the first one of they day. Nope. That plan went sideways today. They just called to tell us that the latest problem is that the stylist is sick. This for an appointment that was booked three months ago. I understand being sick and I'm glad he chose not to come to work. The issue is that the salon is so fully booked that they have no one else who can do this until at least 4pm today. And with what we've experienced before, that means at least three hours of hole in our afternoon when we had everything queued up for this morning appointment. I think at this point, it's time for me to help Mrs. K. find a new salon. Thankfully, we don't have some urgent party or event this evening where the color and cut were critical. I'm downgrading from four to three. They're fine for the products they sell, I'm no longer so sure about the services they offer. My true experience was it took 30 days to remove a charge of $758.93 from my Ulta Store Card account which was a nightmare. My TRUE REAL EXPERIENCE is that it was not an actual transaction and neither the bank who issued the card or the Rivergate Ulta in Charlotte, NC believed it was their responsibility to remove the FAKE CHARGE from my account. I decided to write the review to warn other customers that this can actually happen and if it happens to get proof that a transaction was NEVER actually processed. We got my daughter's hair done at this location and we will not be back. We didn't get the stylist we requested and heard them discussing who is taking my daughter as we sat there. Then they up charged me for a formal hair style because she put two Bobby pins in it to pull it back. The curls fell out almost immediately and we had to do it again at home. I wanted to provide a pamper day for my daughter but they ultimately ruined the experience. I'm reasonable if you wanted to change the price then tell me instead of talking amongst yourselves and handing me the bill with no explanation. It was a very unpleasant visit. read more

The items were on sale buy one get one 50% off, so I decided to stock up. A couple days later I'm looking at the receipt. Clearly says buy one get one 50% off, but their system only calculated 25% off. At the end of the day I'm not going to get upset over another couple dollars savings, but this now just gives me a reminder to pay attention to how they are ringing up their prices if I come back in the future. The two employees today left me feeling terrible. Like that horrible store scene in "Pretty Woman". I couldn't find the tubing mascara that I was familiar with so i asked for assistance in finding anything close. The two of them kept giving each other looks like I was crazy and then said they don't have anything like that. I kept looking around describing it and hoping they'd have a suggestion. The older of the two eventually said, unkindly, that they have it and know what i am talking about BUT they don't sell it in the LOW-END section of the store. I was confused and asked them why they thought I was only interested in BUDGET items when I never mentioned price. The older one just looked at me deadpanned...then annoyed... then reluctantly showed me where to go. She had me come in early when they opened to make ALL that I needed done in time. She was a pleasure to talk to, fast, talented and extremely accommodating in the short time she had before her regular appointments. I booked her again immediately after I saw what a miracle worker she was on my heated-damaged (from lengthy hood exposure), damaged and frizzy hair! She was knowledgable re: tips for caring for my "overall bad" hair. You can tell she has 20+ years experience in hair and coloring! The girls up front were helpful and frequently asking if I needed any assistance while I was browsing beauty products. I went early morning to pick-up some items that it showed it was available at the store. Unfortunately when I got there the item was not there. I found other items to still purchased. I asked the lead cashier Callie to see if she could help me place the order of the items I couldn't find at the store and some other ones too. Callie was so helpful, technology was not on our side: the internet was slow, the device to place the order was finicky, no one's fault, when we began to checkout we had to restart the process. This is probably my favorite Ulta location, the staff is nice, shelves are clean and lines move quick. Parking is always available. I visit the Salon every few months for a quick hair trim. Anita is my go to person, she's very personable and informative when it comes to proper hair care. As far as products go, I usually find everything I need when I come in. I use the app to confirm if the product is available. I always go to this ulta since it's close to my house but last week I experienced something that makes me never want to ask for an opinion or help ever again at this location. Last week, I was in the elf cosmetics section and I had seen this face powder which was trending on TikTok but I wasn't sure if I was the best option I could get. So will I was looking at the other powders elf had, a dark skin female who had I believe was a table and some ear pierce came up to me. She honestly looked like a manager but I'm not sure. She was walking around with her table and asking customers if they needed help and when she approached me, I said yes. I asked her what her thoughts were on the powder and she said "I actually haven't used that powder so I don't really know". If she had just said this I would have been like oh okay no worries but she continued and she said " cheap items will leave a cheap finish". I feel as if this was unnecessary and wrong of her to say. I love makeup but I'm not one to spend 30 dollars on loose powder when I could get a something much cheaper and end up with a good base. The stylist named Chelsea is so good! My daughter has long natural hair and wanted a blowout for her homecoming dance tonight but she had a dance convention until 3. I located Chelsea on the Ulta app and reserved a time. Chelsea suggested a deep conditioner, detangled and blew her hair out in 1hr 15 min without hurting my tender headed daughter. Out of all the Ulta stores around Charlotte, this one is my favorite. The University City store is always lacking in stock most of the times I have visited. The one on Sharon Amity and the one at Stonecrest are stocked better, but whenever I had an opportunity to visit, they are usually crowded. Who wants to deal with people in the way while making that Ever important lipstick color decision? A hasty choice could mean a duplicate shade which means wasted money or a return trip! At this Ulta, there are less customers around at any time I have been which can be any time from morning to evening. Everything I've wanted, I have found at this location. I tried to give this Ulta chance after chance, especially since it is the one closest to my apartment. However, unfortunately I will not be back and rather drive an extra 15 minutes to go to another one. Every time I come to this Ulta there is no one on the salesfloor for assistance and when you look for an employee they seem like it is out of their way to assist you. I agree with one of the comments below, with the employees. They just seem like they do not care either. Once, we were picking up an online order we had made because we figured it would just be easier on our end since we knew how this store was, and yet that was an issue. The last time we came into the store we waited on the line for 20 minutes, after some random lady just walked straight up to the register while we were next and the cashier notice she wasn't even on line nor next and just let it happen, most other cashiers would say, 'i'm so sorry ma'am, there is a small line going, we will get to you as soon as possible..' So that was pretty annoying, but we just wanted to be out with no issues and just ignored it. There was an employee in the back of the cashwrap area organizing or cleaning up, not sure, but called someone else to come help ring. After, another cashier came to assist us and did not even know how to put our online order in the system, so she ended up asking the employee who called for some assistance. After, she kept counting the items, three time to make sure we had everything, but seemed confused. She kept saying we had more items listed than what we order, but we only ordered four items and show her our online payment confirmation and the receipt. She was completely lost and it just seemed more like she did not know what to do for the transition. It's very sad for me because I do enjoy walking into the store rather than shopping online. In my own opinion, with online shopping, less and less cashier are needed. The least they can do is try to keep, enjoy their job or at least make the best of it. It shows and I am not the only customer who has seen the lack of supported needed at the Ulta. read more

It's not organized and seems like they don't carry a lot of the stuff I come in for. And it seems like the employees are too busy talking to each other to help anyone. After the Covid Quarantine I needed my hair cut badly I went to a place in South Carolina and they did a horrible jobs. I waited about 6 weeks and made an appointment at Ulta Beauty on Rae Rd I generally go to the Matthews, NC location but they were booked up.....so I made an appointment at the Rae Rd location. I was told that Sarah was a master stylist and was amazing at working with fine thin hair. I explain what I wanted showing her a picture. I pointed out that I needed my right side way longer. Sarah cut my hair totally opposite of what I told her. I now have the same length on both sides. My hair is now super short and I look like a dyke with a very boy looking hair cut. When I confronted her about her not keeping my right side long she replied, "It'll grow back, at least it's not stringy and looks healthier...you needed to start over." Each day I get more and more angry about it. It's my hair and I decide what look I want not Sarah. I will never go to that Salon again! I'll stick with the Matthew's location. read more

I agreed with the previous Yelper. Im a big fan of Ulta. You should see my collection of makeup. I'm an addict for sure. I didn't quite care for the customer service there. It's a hit or miss. First time there, a rep greeted me and I ask if she can show me where Too Faced Melted Lipstick. I wanted a specific color. They were out. She seem annoyed now that she have to look thru inventory and can't really suggest a dupe. Or suggested anything else. After looking for a min or so. She said they were out and walked off. Well ok then.. 2nd visit was the same thing. They seem to give a good 1st impression but if you're asked for help.. They seem annoyed. So I don't bother them anymore when I go in there. This review is for the Salon - specifically their stylist Shawn. It isn't for the store or the other stylists but for him and him alone. It is rare to find a stylist that gives you one of those cuts that you will always remember as being one of the best styles you ever had. I was lucky to have it happen twice before. Unfortunately in both cases the stylists moved on so I was searching for someone to be loyal to but with no luck. It had been almost 20 years since I had that happen. I pretty much gave up hope that it would happen again for me. But I am so pleased and grateful to have found Shawn here at this Ulta. I went in 3 weeks ago to get a new color and cut. I showed Shawn what I wanted and he made it happen! He took great care and spent the time to create what I envisioned. I don't recall ever getting as many compliments as I have with this new look. Just today, as soon as I walked through the door, I used my shirt to grab the door handle (you know...germs, covid, and also I'm sick so I don't wanna spread germs) and a woman said to me (in such a nasty, rude tone) "I GET IT BUT FOR FUTURE REFERENCE WE HAVE HAND SANTIZER."
