I've always had good experiences at his Ulta but I do want to highlight my most recent visit there: I went last night to get a new foundation and needed some help finding the right shade, since I recently got a spray tan and wasn't really sure which shades would match me best. Charity was a huge help to me, she listened to what I was looking for in a foundation and searched for one that was perfect. She also took the time to try several shades on me to make sure she got my shade exactly right. And I should add that even though I was there at the end of the night (they close at 9 I was there at 8:30 lol) she was still so sweet, upbeat and willing to help! The only reason I gave 4 stars was because it took a minute to get someone's attention to direct me to Charity in the store. Overall would recommend this Ulta location! read more

I enjoy going to Ulta on a weekday vs on a weekend because they're to many shoppers. The makeup staff are doubled on the weekend so i am constantly asked do i need help. I prefer shopping in peace so i can look at all the products without feeling the push to buy. Its very clean and organized and compared to the Mountainside location a bit friendlier. Ulta has a downside due to their policy which doesn't allow providing samples for their customers if they want to try a foundation. Sephora wins in that category and also in their rewards system. read more

This is a nice store but the staff could use some "people skills". There were times I have been here and it was busy and times when it wasn't so busy, every time there was always a long line and only one cashier. I don't get it, there are others standing around the store having conversations with each other while up front they could use another employee at a register. I was so excited about this Ulta opening in the new shopping center. Unfortunately it is managed by people with no customer service skills. I had a photoshoot and thought I would try Ulta for my hair and makeup. The hair stylist they assigned to me was the manager of the salon and so a blowout with her cost $59! I asked why and she said it was because of her skill level. I thought, ok this photo shoot is important so I'll pay the extra money to make sure my hair looks great. I told her I wanted a full blowout. My hair ended up looking flat and limp. I told her again I wanted it more full. So she put moose in my roots. That not only didn't work, it made my hair fall completely flatter right before the shoot a couple of hours later. Right after she got it wrong the second time I had to run to my photoshoot and didn't have time to demand someone else do my hair. The hair not at all what I wanted for the photoshoot - I could have done a better job blowing it out myself at home! The worst part of all this is that when I went back to the manger of the Ulta to tell her what happened she was didn't care at all. In fact she said I should have come the same or next day to tell her about the hair and that there's really nothing she can do now. I own and manage a law firm in Manhattan, was traveling for work immediately after the photoshoot, not to mention Thanksgiving was in the middle of that week, so I didn't get to go to the Ulta right away to complain about my hair. It blows my mind when businesses act this way to customers. Management at this store really needs to get their act together. I wouldn't recommend the Clark Ulta. A local salon will be less expensive, better quality, and MUCH BETTER customer service. read more

Really large anchor store in strip mall--well-stocked inventory and great lighting. The staff is hit or miss(some staff considers acknowledging customers to be optional, others will try to build a rapport and learn customer names and their brand loyalty), and sometimes promo knowledge can leave a bit to be desired. I've only had enjoyable visits, but I do notice that as I've become a higher-sales visitor over the past 3 years, the staff has made more of an effort with customer service toward me. read more

This review is for makeup services only: I came in to get my make up done for my engagement pictures and I was very disappointed with the end result. I reserved a spot for formal makeup application and made it known to my makeup artist that I was having photos taken. The session was 20 min long and felt very rushed. Every time I have had my makeup professionally done for a formal occasion it has taken 45 min- 1 hour. I came in with a bare face and my makeup artist started with foundation without using any moisturizer and primer. By the time I made it to my car the makeup was cracking and caking all around my face making me look 10 years older. When the makeup artist was doing my eye liner she asked me if I wanted a winged style, I said yes, and she did not do it. When I was finished my face was much darker then my neck and rest of my body. She also only did foundation and did not add any highlighter or contour to my face giving me a very flat and painted look. The WORST part was when the artist was applying my lip gloss she used the brush that came with the lip gloss instead of a new disposable brush. At the every least I expect hygienic standards by using a new disposable brush for each client instead of the same brush. When I got home my fiance even commented that my makeup looked horrible and he never notices things like that. I had to completely redo my makeup for my photos on my own. I have used this service previously to trial how the artists at Ulta do makeup and loved it. I booked with the same person and Ulta cancelled on me one week prior to my appointment. So even if you do find a makeup artist you like there is no guarantee Ulta can deliver. read more

I found that this Ulta was well stocked- even found some hidden MAC gems. The staff were helpful and the store was clean. The lines weren't too long for a Saturday afternoon! They were knowledgeable when I asked questions. The reason for the 4 star is because there was a deal going on for Japonesque Makeup brushes if you spent over $25 but the store associate didn't acknowledge it! read more

Not impressed. I was excited to see an Ulta store opened.. There were a lot of things I wanted to get since I saw them online.. but once I went to the store, they didn't have them. The employee didn't know what I was talking about. I guess not all Ultas will have everything you see on the ULTA online... What is the point? The store has the same things you would see in target, sephora, cvs.. amazon for cheaper... nothing special. I was so excited to have an ULTA Beauty nearby but that excitement was quickly deflated by the nasty attitude of the stuff there, especially the manager who has no concept of customer service. A few of the staff are helpful but good luck trying to get anyone's attention. You can stand there and call, wave, approach, etc and they'll still walk right past you. The manager is a piece of work. Made an appointment for a haircut for my daughter at 7:45 pm. Drive the 15 minutes to Clark for the appointment. The stylist doesn't even acknowledge us and says with attitude to the receptionist, I'm running late I can't do that appointment now, like we were bothering him. The receptionist says the other client has a lot of hair so he can't take us at our scheduled appointment. We were told to come back another time. We won't be going back!! read more

Staff has limited knowledge. One time I went in looking for a brush that would give my hair volume when I blow dried it. The salesperson had to go get someone else to help her because she didn't know. The second worker stood there for a while and then selected a brush. Then the first worker said 'No, that one will make her hair greasy.' Then I just watched as they debated it. Safe to say I was very confused. The second time I went in (which was today), I asked where I could find bobby pins. The lady looked at me as if she had never heard of them before. She said 'Umm....' for a while and then led me to an aisle. She said 'If we had them, they would be here.' Then she left me. How does a beauty store not know if they sell basic bobby pins? Bought a liquid lipstick from here. Come home and open it, it's been used & is goopy (my bad, I should've checked it in store). Come back to return it and look for a replacement and ALL of this lipstick range looks USED UP and TAMPERED with when I check. I complain to a sales associate and all she says is: "haha yea sometimes customers like to open up and use the lipsticks". She didn't care nor help me find an unused one from the back. This is abhorrent. I wouldn't be surprised if they just resell used makeup. These employees couldn't care less. Will never come to this location again. read more

Awful customer service. I've been here three times and each time I've dealt with rude staff. A few days ago was the last time I went and the cashier that was returning my items was so rude. She had her cell phone out the entire time and was texting and reading her conversation while I was right across from her asking questions. This is the second and last visit! I have always been a huge fan of Ulta and when I heard this store opened up near me, I was so excited. But after two tries, I will not be going back. I have never been to such an empty, messy store in my life! I rather go to the nearby Sephora, in the mall, than this Ulta! The staff is so cold and unhelpful! It feels like they don't even know anything about makeup (needless to say makeup for women of color. Sorry to say it but true... ) I was even shocked to see that ALL of their stock of liquid lipstick was out of stock! (From every brand though?!!) Someone needs to seriously take a look at the condition of this store! Horrible condition of the testers as well I would never touch those things, YUCK! I went in there for a contour stick or foundation stick for medium to dark skin, the two women who asked me for help looked at me and gave me a tan stick that almost exactly matched my complexion! So I hate doing this! This location opened not even a year ago. When this store open and I was really excited because this was the closest ulta to me, usually I'll have to travel to other locations that were honestly so far from me that I barely had the energy to travel so far. I usually shop at Sephora but I decided to go to this location and it was a disaster as I walked in no one greets us which I really don't care but there are some people who might get offended I have worked in retail before so I know how that is, no biggie. This didn't bother me I just wanted to put it out there however the following visits were terrible they never have anything in stock which I mean that's not their fault, but when they decline to even check in the back for products and just say no no no and give you attitude and nasty looks it gets annoying. I think I will no longer be shopping at ulta anymore I'm gonna stick to Sephora unless there's an exclusive product that is sold at all times I just can't stand the attitude and the nastiness of even managers, theres only one manager that is so sweet i usually go to her for help. The management team in this store is a joke. Horrible place. They are sold out of mostly everything popular with restocking times to be over two months out and when I asked an employee for help, after almost ignoring me, she looked me in the face and said I can't right now I'm late to a meeting. Didn't even care what my question was about which was actually to be pointed into a certain direction (how quick was that). Additionally the check out woman was equally helpful in just telling me a guess of where something was. Worse part was the store was empty so she could have taken the time to help me better. I love Ulta stores and buy a majority of my make-up at this retail chain. However, this is the only location that had 16 customers in line (I waited long enough, so I had time to count) and only 1 cashier open while 3 workers chatted behind the counter. It was 30 minutes before the store was closing and it seemed like these workers were trying to "close-up" the store early instead of doing their job. There is never a reason to leave 16 customers waiting in line. I've never had to wait this long at an Ulta store. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable. read more

I love the products they carry but you could never find a price on anything. If you do find a price it's never for the product it's under. I also find that if there's a gift with purchase you have to ask for it. The girls behind the counter don't automatically give it to you. In fact most of the time they have no clue there's a promotion going on. I just bought a perfume gift set and actually had to ask for the bathrobe that was clearly displayed when you entered the store. Really? They need better customer service. I was really excited to have an Ulta near by but I was extremely disappointed with their customer service. There was only one person in the cosmetic department and she wouldn't even look at me, I waited 15 min for someone to help me. There was no one else on the floor, I had to ask one of the people in the salon to leave their area to come and help me. I would say that the staff in the salon was very friendly but that's about it. What I was expecting to be a quick 15 min run to Ulta took me 40 min and almost made me late for work. If you know what you want and you don't need assistance then you'll be fine but if you need help, don't count on it. read more

I go to this ulta the most because it's the closest to me but the employees do not deliver the best customer service. Especially the employees near the skincare section. If I'm paying over $20 for makeup, I expect good customer service, not yelling at the customer for not even doing anything. One time while checking out I said no to setting up a ulta rewards card and was asked over and over again until I finally had to say yes. I'm sorry, I am not usually like this but I feel as if I need to say something. I have been going to see Courtney, the salon manager, since Ulta has opened this past July. She does AMAZING work!! My color is always exceptional and my blow out lasts me days unlike when I do it myself. To me it sounds like Jana G below is just wants to ruin someone's day. Buyer beware! Terrible customer service at Ulta in Clark. I bought a few items there and the eye concealer caused me to have a reaction (I was allergic and even needed to visit urgent care). No fault of Ulta that I was allergic. The issue was when I tried to return the item. Because I'm not a rewards member and could not find my receipt Ali (the manager) refused to help me saying I could only exchange it for another color or get a store credit of a PENNY! Why would I want to exchange it for another color if I'm allergic? I did not expect cash back just a store credit. The item was used once and still in the box. Ali would not even try to help or have a conversation about this. I could have shown proof of my debit card transaction if she took the time to ask. She was rude and unhelpful. No one told me I had to be a rewards customer to return items. Which is ridiculous. I will never shop there again. Much rather buy my products at a retailer that appreciates its customers whether a rewards member or not. So now I am left with an item I'm allergic to and a terrible experience at Ulta in Clark NJ. There is a plus side and that is I'm thankful for a more local Ulta in the area. Unfortunately I have some downsides. To their benefit, it was in the first few months of their opening that I was victim to some negative experiences here. First, I asked for a recommendation for a new BB cream. The representative kindly showed me a few options. She insisted after I told her I didn't want to color match on my face (because I had makeup on) that I needed to. She took it upon herself to slab it on my face anyway. She was so pushy and once she saw how upset I was she proceeded to wipe it off and got it in my hair. I was not happy. On another occasion, I was approached several times in one shopping experience by the same lady (don't you remember who you spoke to within a five-minute period?) about getting a facial. I had to tell her each time that I am a loyal client elsewhere for those services. Geez! If you don't listen, then I'm going to assume you'll take those poor practices to the execution of your services. So it's a great idea for me to stay clear of you. My last critique is with a line full of customers waiting to pay why does the one cashier ringing everyone up leave to take care of a client that walks right up to her to find an item. How about the 6 clients who have been waiting to pay?? I'm not sure if all of this is a result of poor management, lack of customer service, growing pains with a grand opening or all of the above. I had high hopes going into my appointment for a blow out, but left incredibly disappointed. The booking process is a breeze, and I was most appreciative of being able to make a last-minute, late night appointment. Not many salons or blow out bars can accommodate last-minute appointments, and often aren't open late. I was the only one in the salon at the time, and there was only one stylist on duty. Granted, I do have thick, curly hair, which was above my shoulders at the time, but other blow out bars have been able to conquer it with a blow dryer and a flat iron in 45 minutes or less. Here, however, it took over an hour and a half! The stylist, as nice as she was, clearly was not experienced in doing plain old blow outs - every strand of hair she blew out with the blow dryer, she then took the time to turn off the blow dryer, grab the flat iron, and straighten that individual piece of hair, rather than blowing out my hair completely first, and finishing with the flat iron as every other place does. I left with hair looking worse than if I had blown it out and straightened it with the flat iron myself. I had to wake up extra early the next morning to fix my hair. Fortunately, as a first (and only) time customer, I received a huge discount on the service - it wasn't even worth what I paid, but at least it wasn't full price. Cannot highly recommend going to dedicated blow out bars over this place enough - but if you are looking for something last minute or open late, you know what you're in for. read more
