I went to Ulta to buy my boyfriend a Versace cologne. The display only had the bottles out -- no boxes -- and I physically pointed to the exact bottle I wanted. The associate told me to ask for it at the register. At checkout, they showed me a box and asked if it was mine. I said yes because I chose a Versace cologne, but I had never seen the packaging before. I picked the bottle from the display, not a box -- so how was I supposed to know it was wrong? I got home, opened it, and realized it was the wrong one. I went back to Ulta and explained what had transpired to Samaley, instead of apologizing, I was asked, "Didn't they confirm with you at the register?!" in a dismissive tone, no I'm sorry or let me help you ?! 7/13/24 Great experience! I walked in to get Sulfate free shampoo & conditioner. My hair stylist told me my current shampoo & conditioner must have Sulfate in it. Making the blonde dark. Angel offered help in finding it and was very kind. I sold her I didn't want to pay a lot. She ended up going over some with me. 3rd one was the winner. Thanked her and went to checkout. Sammie. Oh emm gee! Sammie. She's literally the best. I was in way over my head trying to find a good make up to cover up some scaring on my chin. I never ask for help in these places - usually I get overwhelmed and overstimulated and just leave the store (I actually tried to get help at Sephora a few days prior but they were too busy to help me). Sammie saw me struggling in Ulta . She brought me to a quiet part of the store and sat me in her make up chair. Asked me what she could help me with and then this beautiful woman with her soft and welcoming presence did my make up, while explaining what she was doing and went with a more natural look which is totally my vibe. She listened as I talked about my crazy life and all the drama that caused my face to look like it does. So, I usually order make up or hair products online and hardly make it to the store. My sister and I had sister bonding time and she is a huge Ulta Beauty fan...so she dragged me here with her. She's more of, "ohh, I like that I'm going to buy it even if I have a similar product or I don't need it but I want to buy it anyway," type of person. Me, I'm more of hmm.. do I really need it? Will I use it for a long time? I really do like this store but it hurts my pockets. Most of the staff here are pretty friendly and helpful. If they didn't know something they would find someone that could help answer my question or find someone who was more of an expert in that department. I didn't really care for the staff at the register though, they are not that friendly. I decided I wanted to look into getting a deep conditioning hair treatment for my daughter. She is mixed, so her hair sometimes gets dry and we have to use special products. As she is getting older, I've notice her hair texture and thickness has been changing. So the previous products weren't working on her hair as well. We even tried different products to switch it up but couldn't find anything that worked really well. We scheduled an appointment with Stephanie who was extremely cheerful. We really liked her vibe and she seem to know what she was talking about when we asked her questions about my daughter's hair. They don't have the same hair type but understands how to work with curly hair. I felt confident that I could trust her in servicing my daughter's hair. My daughter was Stephanie's last appointment for the next day and instead of feeling rushed, Stephanie really took her time to treat, wash, condition and massage my daughter's head. She explained step by step what she was doing so that way I would know what products she was using and how she was using it. We ended up buying the products that she recommended and it was an easy $250!! I didn't feel pressure and I didn't feel like she was up selling just any type of products. I really appreciated the time she took and how thorough she was with explaining everything. My daughter wasn't even screaming about her head hurting when she hair was getting combed out. That definitely shows that Stephanie was also being considerate and gentle of my daughter's sensitive head. The products that we bought have been working well so the money we spent was worth it. We will definitely have to come back every few months for the service again. My daughter really enjoyed it. ** there was a man that made me feel uncomfortable both days we were there. I felt like he was following us like we were going to steal something. As he was kinda of walking around the store with us, he followed us to the front when we paid and walked towards the door and opened it for us when we were walking out. I've been to this store a few times, experience has always been just fine. Well, last week I ran out of foundation and actually went to work without any make up on (!) I knew this store was just a couple blocks away so I quickly ordered a few things online for pick up at the store once they opened at 10. It was such a smooth process! I got an email before 10 that my order was ready for pick up. I drove over at 10 and sure enough, my stuff was already in a bag waiting for me. The cashier asked me to make sure everything was there and I was on my way - I made it back to the office within 12 minutes! Recently I went to this Ulta because I was in the area. I never felt so profiled or judged in my life. I went in, had my boots, leggings and favorite northface sweater on. I hardly wear makeup anymore due to my facial eczema. But my face had cleared up so I thought I would try out some makeup again. Immediately after I walk in I am approached by 2 staff in the bareminerals isle. Of course one asks if she can help and I ask about a kit. They only have one and it's too dark. They apologize point out some other foundations and then leave me be and I continue to look. Then they both come back and one says "your not getting the kit".I answer no. And the other says "oh where is it" and I point to where the other tech sat it down when she left. I continue to look at bareminerals shades. The tech tried to help match colors on my wrist but not once offered to actually match one to my face. She leaves again. Then as I'm leaving the isle she pops up again and says "did you take one?" I was like huh. She rephrased her comment to "Did you decide which one your taking home". I told her yes and asked about brushes. She took me to the brushes and stayed there talking about them. I know it's their job but dang can I look. So I asked her questions about a couple even though I already knew exactly what I was looking for, and when I asked for it she said not for that foundation. During this time another lady walks up and instead of finishing up with me she proceeds to help her look at the same brushes and leaves me standing there until they finish. I couldn't grab what I wanted because they were in the way. I grab a set of brushes and head to the register. The same tech is literally behind the register fiddling around with random things. I honestly felt like she was monitoring what I was paying for. I don't plan on ever shopping there again. I will stick to my regular store! read more

For decades I bought my makeup at department store cosmetic counters. I still love to stop at Nordstroms when I'm in a city that has one (Fresno does not) because the service is excellent. That's what I want in a cosmetics retailer, outstanding service. Service that bends over backwards to help me. My first stop at Ulta provided just that. Every clerk I had contact with went above and beyond to help me. I had been under the impression for years that Ulta only carried drugstore brands, which I could get at Target, with a discount. When I finally made my first stop at Ulta, I find out that they carry department store brands like Clinique and Lancome. Much like Sephora, which I also like due to excellent service. They have a large assortment of high end fragrances, too. I was impressed with their professional hair care brands, but they don't carry the brand I use to keep the red in my hair between visits to the hairdresser. I was surprised to find a hair salon at the back of the store. This is a one-stop shop for your beauty needs. Ulta is also closer to my house than Sephora, and the shopping center, Villagio, is a much more pleasant destination than Fashion Fair Mall. read more

Check your Loyalty Rewards and make sure it's not connected with your Ulta credit card. I had over $300 charges occur on my statement which I knew I didn't do because my bill was at a zero balance. I went through hours trying to connect with someone to help Me with these fraudulent charges. Finally had to completely close my account to have these charges removed. What really upset me a employee said that a customer used her Loyalty Rewards with my name told this employee it was not her and she was wondering why she has not received a credit card statement. I placed an online curbside pickup order and came to get it. I checked in on the app when I arrived. Once I check in I basically sat there waiting. I watch 7 people walk out with their items and I'm still waiting so far a total of 10 minutes. Finally after 15 minutes and 4 more people walking out with their items...I ended up calling the store. When the girl answered I told her I was here to pickup my curbside and if anyone was ever going to bring it out to me. Her reply was oh I got an alert but just now noticed it...once the phone was hung up it took another 5 minutes for her to get out to bring my items. This review is for the Ulta beauty salon. Ever since I moved to Fresno, it seems impossible to find a decent hair stylist. I have been to over 7 places, high end, low end, you name it and each has been a disappointment. But this last experience at Ulta has been nothing short of absolutely traumatizing for me. I got my hair cut here twice. Both times I booked with Schailar. She was nice and had a bubbly personality. The first time I came, she cut my hair exactly how I wanted and was super impressed. It was a shorter bob style cut with side bangs. I say this because she does deserve credit where it's due and I looked super cute- so I booked with her again. The 2nd time I booked with her, I asked for a pixie cut-think Audrey Hepburn, PINK, or Michelle Williams. I booked a 30 minute clipper cut with her. At first, she couldn't get the length right and had the hair running halfway down my ears and the rest of the hair didn't look like a pixie, but a really short poofy bob. So, i asked to cut it shorter, especially along the sides. Well, she must have been getting tired of me because, at this point, we were over our appointment slot and her next client was waiting. Instead of telling me that she either couldn't do it or we needed to reschedule, she decided to take out ELECTRIC CLIPPERS and proceeded to absolutely butcher the rest of my hair! She went at it and within 3 minutes, 75% of my hair was completely gone. I was in such disbelief that I couldn't even say anything. Then, the short straight hairs started sticking out every which way and she just couldnt understand why the hair wasn't staying down. Gee Schailar, maybe its because you did not do a pixie cut with textured layers, but did a half ass buzz cut and then tried to cover it up with pommade. She must have known I was unhappy because she didn't look me in the eye at check out. I went to work the next day. Everyone tried to be nice and say it looked ok, but the honest ones flat out pointed out how absolutely uneven and choppy it is and how there were chunks of UNEVEN hair sticking out every which way. I cannot even get it fix because there is literally not enough hair to cut anymore. I understand if I am going over my appointment and we need to reschedule, I understand if you are not skilled enough to do what i asked. Heck, I even understand if my hair is not the appropriate type for the style I asked. I would even forgive you if you owned up to your mistake and apologized or tried to reschedule to fix it instead of saying "its just your hair type, thats why it sticks up." Oh really? my hair type made you zig zag across my head with the clippers? Just freaking tell me that. But, PLEASE do NOT just go and butcher peoples hair because you are in a rush or simply dont give a F*CK about ruining someone's appearance for potentially the next year of their lives. This place is horrible to shop, especially for the people of color like me and my boyfriend. I come in here for hairdryer and this guy light skinned short black hair probably 5'8 was following us right when we went inside. He greeted (employee) but never bothered to help us. The whole time my boyfriend noticed he was behind us as we were looking for the hairdryer section. Eventually we found the hairdryer section. As I'm trying to decide which hairdryer to buy because there was a lot of options to choose from. My boyfriend noticed he kept stalking us and peaking over at us. I felt that someone was watching over us but brushed it off. (I would never expect an employee to stalk us) Knowing my boyfriend who is protective he was keeping an eye on him because he didn't trust him. He found him to be a creep the whole time. Eventually I finally decided which hairdryer to buy, but the fact that the guy followed us ALL the way to the cashier was ridiculous. Out of everyone who came in the store, it had to be us. I'm always happy enough with this location. Things move around a bit sometimes, but for the most part I know what I can get here and where to find it so it's usually a decent shopping experience. They have a decent range of higher-end make-up counters, including Clinique and Benefit, and a handful of drug store options including Maybelline and NYX. There are some perfume stands too, last time I couldn't find what I wanted they found it at the back for me. There are a lot of options for haircare - when in doubt my strategy is to find a brand I trust and go through their options. They also have hair tools like hairdryers, tongs, and straighteners and you can find a cheap set for $25 or an expensive styler - I like the broad range there. Same goes for hairbrushes. They also have lots of choice for bathroom bits and bobs from shaving to face masks to bathing. The service can be really slow at the tills here, especially if it's already busy. I've been in at times where there were 10+ people in line and they haven't opened another service point, which is frustrating. I usually find the employees pleasant enough. read more

I had been seeing Stephanie Gaddis for a cut and color for two years now. The last time I was very unhappy with the cut. She spent only about five minutes on it. My hair was shorter on one end and uneven. I still paid her and tipped her, but when I later told her about how I was unhappy with it, she told me to go see someone else. This is after being a loyal customer for two years and even being quite fond of her as a person. I am deeply upset. You can't say anything to her without receiving some sort of backlash. You'd think I was some kind of glutton for punishment since I don't always have the best experiences here when it comes to shopping. But I love makeup and beauty products and just keep hoping it'll get better because I do like what this store is. I come here on average once every month, to two months. That's not to say I actually purchase something every time I come in. I've had a bunch of walk in, walk right out visits. They're always sold out of things. I do like Ulta because it's more convenient to go to than Sephora and they carry drugstore and skincare brands I like. Their rewards program is also better in my opinion. When you accumulate enough points you can redeem your points for money off of your purchase. Sephora on the other hand only gives out sample size products for all those points you earn. Provided it's not a prestige brand (unless the coupon includes it) there's always some sort of coupon you can use to save money on your purchase. Some of the items like drugstore makeup and skincare are more money than say Target or Walmart, but if you catch a good sale like buy one get one 50% off and use a coupon you can get some good deals. They usually greet you when you walk in and then you never hear from them again until you check out. On my most recent visit I wasn't greeted, but they were quite busy. There's still a complete lack of assistance on the store floor. Luckily I hardly ever need help. There's still empty product displays all the time. If you ever see something you want that's not super accessible at other stores, just buy it. If you wait and come back it probably won't be there for a while. I've been there. They sent me a last minute coupon for 10% off prestige and 20% off of pretty much everything else. I didn't go crazy and just got the one product I came in to repurchase. I also found a crazy good clearance deal as well when I was in line to check out. I wanted to make some impulse buys on lip colors, but they were all sold out which made me very glad that I purchased one the last time I was in. The checkout line was pretty long. Not the longest I ever seen it, but even with 3 registers it still took me like 10 minutes to check out. The girl who rung me up was very nice though. After dealing with the employees at this location I will never shop at Ulta again. I will find my products ANYWHERE else, and let me tell you there are a lot of options these days, even COSTCO sells prestige beauty online (for much better prices). I called looking for an item the website said they had, the employee kept telling me they don't even carry that brand. Yes, actually you do, I purchased it here 2 months ago and it is online and says you have it in stock. I just decide to go in and look for myself, and of course they have it sitting on the shelf! I tell the girl at the register what happened and that it is frustrating, her response is that online doesn't update that often. That doesn't even make sense, obviously she wasn't listening to what I was saying whatsoever. Absolutely annoying!!
