Ulta is my favorite place to shop for cosmetics. I love being able to freely roam and find what matches my complexion independently. The sales associates don't hover, but are there to assist when needed. I usually go to Ulta for foundation, concealers, and lipstick. They vary a variety of brands. Juvia's and Fenty are my two favorite brands and they are always in-stock. I also purchase perfume from Ulta and sometimes they are running a sale. They also carry a variety of skincare products. Ulta carries prices that can fit any budget and products that will fit any hue. I would highly recommend giving them a try. read more

Sherise at the Glen Allen (Brook Rd location) made my WHOLE day. When I told her at checkout that I was 3 weeks out from my wedding and having some bad breakouts, she immediately brought me over to the Clinique section and showed me a product to help with like an insane amount of care even after I had already paid. When I then told her that I was actually looking for wedding perfumes for the actual day, she walked me over and showed me SO many. She felt like a friend and took genuine interest in me and what I was looking for. When I came to checkout again, she talked to me about the app and made sure I clipped the coupons - love when someone has my back lol Such a genuinely kind person and I'm so grateful that I ran into her! I've been avoiding buying perfume because of pressure and the headache of it all, but she led me immediately to her fav D&G scent. Wonderful, give her a raise or a million dollars. I just went to Ulta on Brook Rd and was extremely satisfied with my experience. Jennifer helped me and she was so knowledgeable and kind. I never felt like I was burdening her with my requests and she seems to love her job and have a passion for makeup and helping people feel beautiful. I even asked for her to be honest if I looked crazy with a certain shade of contour and she gave me her opinion in a kind and constructive way and gave me tips for blending too. Miguel manages the store and first let me say he has prettier hair than I do. He was so pleased I had a good experience with Jennifer and was very kind and the store seems to be clean and well-run with a solid staff, moreso than times I've gone in the past. AND to top it off, Cameron checked me out and asked me to check my Ulta app for discounts, which I never would have thought to do, so I was able to save some money on my purchase. Nice!! Everyone in the store was so busy I guess....the service was very poor. I almost thought it was because I'm a black man, but they ignored white women too. I asked an associate for assistance, she made we wait 10 minutes, then she walked pass me with no explanation and sent someone from out the back to help me. This associate was preoccupied with something else and when I asked to smell some of the perfumes, she instructed me to do it myself...wtf... If I didn't need these items on the fly I would have laid them in the floor and went somewhere else...because that was the level of service I recieved. The associate walked away once I made my choice and didn't care to ask if there was anything else I was interested in, was I satisfied with what I selected, were the items I had were what I was looking for...etc. Very poor customer service. read more

You know what I love about Ulta?? I love the fact that woman of all walks of life are welcomed here and encouraged to feel beautiful. They cater to both the mom and the aspiring makeup artist with the variety of products and brands that they carry. The layout of the store makes it easy to find what you are looking for. One thing that was kind of bizarre to me is the random rack of clearance products in the back dark corner of the store, it just feels very outta place like it shouldn't be located there. I traveled to this location 20 minutes away from my home just for a brand Elemis. My 23 year old daughter and 2 year old granddaughter were with me, (both are mixed in race) I picked up a few items and looked around the store all the while feeling like I'm being followed. My daughter also said a sales person followed her around the store. I'm not sure if the sales personnel are pushing products or just profiling people. I spent almost $200 on 6 items. My daughter stated the lady seemed racist maybe she saw us walk in together. Irregardless of reason if I'm shopping back off. If I have questions I'll ask for assistance read more

What I like about Ulta is it is beauty at your own pace. I feel the employees are not pushy in trying to sell you something or make you try a million different things. They give their recommendation if you want it, let you shop and be great. This location feels a bit cramped, in comparison to my normal store at Short Pump. However, this location isn't as busy (at least it seems) and on Black Friday they had some of the items in stock that SP was sold out of--winning! This location is near work so I shop here on occasion, but not often. I haven't had any issues at this location and would recommend it if closer and more convenient than SP or other locations. read more

I've never written any reviews for anything, but I want to share my experience. I have my cosmetology license, and I know everything about make-up and hair. I came from California to go to a wedding here, and I wanted to treat myself, so I made my appointment a long time ago. And two days before the wedding, I made two more appointments. Long story short, l have short hair, and I asked to do formal hair with a loose and messy updo. I showed the girl a picture, and the end came out with horrid hair. I kept asking Whatever you think is nice for my hair, do it, but She just looked at me. In the end, I asked her to redo my hair. One of the talents of hair stylists and make-up artists is to see which hair and face match together. Then, the person did my makeup. I asked to do contouring for my face and show a picture, and the person told me, Yeah, I can do it, and it's easy. The person did my makeup without any moisturizer, primer, or contouring, which was very regular, and it was faded after 2 hours, and my eyes all messy. I asked for false lashes, and the guy cut them very short. The lashes didn't cover my eyeline to the end of my eyes, and it was just in the middle. Basically, I paid $70 for false eyelashes that didn't shield my eyeline. The two people that I took with me didn't like their makeup and hair either, and when I asked the hairstylist to do something for their makeup and hair, she rolled her eyes and was working very slowly and didn't take all the product, and she was after each step was going to take more product and come back. read more

I recently visited the Ulta on Brook Rd. in Glen Allen, VA and had the worst customer experience ever.... I was in the store for at least an hour and visited almost every counter and NOT one associate came over to assist me but every other person who enter the store was greeted and asked if they needed help... I didn't understand maybe it was because I wasn't all dolled up but I usually don't come all made up when I was expecting to be colored matched for the Too Faced line... So instead of spending my hard earned money at Ulta, I went right over to Sephora and dropped some major money with them... I hope this is NOT representative of ALL Ulta Beauty stores but "word on the street" is that others have had similar experiences at this location as well. read more

Makeup is one of my many, many guilty pleasures so I find myself here more often than I should. I love the store's bright, airiness, though I have to say I'm more partial to the way that the Short Pump store is set up. I think it might be a bit bigger and easier to navigate. Regardless, it really doesn't matter which location you end up at, they're all good and they all take the weekly coupons which, let's face it, is the real reason why we go :-) The only thing I don't like about shopping for makeup is that there's no one store where you can get items from all sorts of different brands. Ulta carries middle of the road brands like Urban Decay (my personal fave), Too Faced, Benefit, Clinique, Bare Minerals, Calvin Klein, etc AND drugstore brands like NYX, Maybelline, Cover Girl, etc. On the other hand, Sephora has a much better selection of high end brands like NARS, Becca, Makeup Forever, Kat Von D etc. so make sure you check to make sure Ulta has the brand you're looking for before you go! Wow. Went there at 7pm and no one was working on the floor. I needed help in the "prestige" make up and when I asked one of the women at the registers if anyone was available to help me she got annoyed with me! Wtf Ulta!? I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. I placed an order online for pick up and received confirmation via text that my order was ready. Once, I got to the store the manager could not locate any of the products that I purchased even with the barcode/and order #. To make things worst ( I was asked to wait while they look for my items from their inventory located in the back) only to be told that they did not have anymore in stock. Talk about gas/ money and unnecessary time being wasted for a curbside order. I definitely would not recommend this store because you may burn unnecessary gas and time. read more

Worst. Ulta. EVER! The staff is extremely rude. I will be looking at things on an isle and 3-4 employees walk by without even acknowledging me. When you walk in staff is talking to each other and never acknowledge you. Every time, and I mean every time I get a coupon in the mail I am unable to use it. The disclaimers are so vague and even when you spend a hundred dollars in their store they wont scan your coupon because they say the makeup and hair products you bought don't count towards the $3.50 off coupon you have. Their store is super messy and the product is spread everywhere. I went to buy OPI nail polish the other day. It was buy 2 get 1 free. So I bought 3. When I got to the counter the lady said that one of the OPI polishes was not included in the sale because it was $12.50 instead of $9.50. She wouldn't give me one of the $9.50 polishes for free though even though I was spending $3 more on one of the polishes I was paying for. Overall this store is just terrible. Stay away!! read more

When I asked an employee where the Colourpop section was, he guided me to both displays and let me know that testers were unavailable. This is my favorite Ulta. The staff is so friendly and helpful, I find myself "hanging out" with them when I come in. I was hesitant to get my brows done here, I don't know why... because it's the best thing I could have done for my brows! Regine is amazing, I love going in to get my brows done by her, she's super knowledgeable, and cool. I highly recommend this location, I feel as though they really are there to help, and I have found great products from the suggestions of the staff. read more

I had my hair colored, highlighted and trimmed in January 2018. Awesome job, total bill $120. I was told the total amount before she worked on my hair. I went back May 3rd, same thing done and my bill was $220!! Imagine my shock and I was not told in advance it would be that high. I told her that is way too much, she replied "let me see what I can do". She hands me a new bill, $176. That is still too high, I would not have had my hair done there and would have gone somewhere else. Came in today for a haircut with Christopher. It was my first time ever coming to an Ulta for a cut. I was a little hesitant but needed a cut badly and decided to go for it. I explained what I thought I wanted and chris explained how much work this cut would be on a daily basis for styling and steered me in another direction. When I first saw the final results I wasn't so sure but after getting home quickly realized that this was a beautiful cut and he did such a nice job. I usually go to this Ulta if I want a specific item and don't want to wait for it to be delivered. I was in this store on 3/31 to get the Anastasia brow gel and I couldn't find it. There were two associates right behind me talking about a bar they were going to or had been to and totally ignored me even and then just walked off. For the most part, their customer service has been pretty good and if they were out of stock of something I needed, they were happy to call and let me know when they got it. While traveling in the area on business, I had an unexpected meeting cancellation and made up my mind to find a hair salon that had decent reviews and availability to do a cut and all over highlights. Ulta was located across the street from my hotel and reviews were good on another review site so decided to drive over. The manager at the salon pleasantly greeted me and promptly introduced me to Melanie who was available. Melanie totally nailed both the cut and color that I wanted. It's not every day that the outcome meets what I envisioned and SO wish she lived near me in Massachusetts as I would be one of her regulars. read more

I have been a customer/client at Ulta Beauty Salon for 9+ years with a fabulous stylist who was innovative, educated, and listened to not only me but all of her clients to ensure that each one received a top of the line experience and services. She KNEW me and my hair. She knew evert one of her clients this way. I know, because I witnessed it on more than one occasion. I received compliments on my hair DAILY. Not an exaggeration. I was in love with my hair. My stylist was then promoted approximately 2 yrs ago to a regional educator of sorts which is wonderful for her and she earned and deserved it. However, since that time, I have been shuffled from one inexperienced and incompetent stylist to another. I have walked out with my naturally Strawberry Blond colored hair (with gray roots now-hence my need for color services) the color of Little Orphan Annie streaked ON TOP with a color akin to Cabernet Red Wine requiring me to recolor my hair at home. I have had appointments cancelled within an hour of the appointment with a reschedule period of approximately 3-4 weeks. I have attempted to leave MULTIPLE messages for my original stylist, Jonie to no avail. I am absolutely disgusted with Ulta Beauty!!! I pay WAY too much money to this Company to be treated this way and to not have a respectable expectation of some form of satisfaction. The crap of it is, I can't speak with Jonie to even get a recommendation of another stylist with somewhat comparable attributes that match with my needs!!!! I have given Ulta chance after chance to correct these issues and have WENT TO THE SALON IN PERSON to schedule appointments with the same result! ENOUGH!!! I have now scheduled an appointment with the local Great Clips. At least there, I know what I'm getting and I'm getting what I pay for. I sure as hell haven't done so at Ulta Beauty Salon. read more

Standard store, not a huge difference in what they carry from other locations- however this location has terrible customer service. I needed help one day finding a particular product, an artist that worked for a different cosmetic line- not even for Ulta helped me. Was the only one who offered assistance, then she asked who I assume was a manager for help, who shrugged both of us off to continue delegating tasks to other employees. Had I not been flying out a few days later I wouldn't have bought anything. People in the service industry should be a bit more considerate of their customers and their surroundings. read more

I have never stepped foot in an Ulta store much less this location. I called on the phone looking for a certain perfume at first I was told no,that particular one was not available in their store,about five minutes later a number that I did not recognize called me and left a voicemail. when I listened to the voicemail I was pleasantly surprised that it was the employee that I had just previously spoke to about a perfume. Sam took the time to call me back and tell me she had overlooked it and they did in fact have the perfume...keep in mind I did not leave my contact information and she did not know my name and she clearly had to look for my phone number. I have never had this happen to me in retail before.thank you so much Sam! I will be there today to purchase my perfume thanks again Sam for the extra minute you took out of your day to call me back and tell me that you do in fact have what I was looking for thank you Sam!!
