I had no idea I had an Ulta this close to me at Guilford Commons! I'm personally a Sephora girlie, but every now and then you just need to make an Ulta run. I placed my order online for in-store pickup, and the process was super smooth. The store itself is on the smaller side, but it's well kept, organized, and easy to navigate. My order was ready quickly, and the staff was friendly and efficient when I picked it up. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'll definitely be back for those in-between beauty runs. read more

Please never come here. I went in for BLONDE highlights and the woman told me they couldn't be done and I ended up with pitch black hair. I have been crying ever since, this woman ruined my entire month. On top of that, she charged me for the highlights even though I did not get them. I have heard similar horror stories about this place so trust me when I say it is not worth it. Please please please if you are a woman looking to go here, look elsewhere! I can't emphasize enough to not use this salon. I got a haircut done there. While drying my hair, the stylist says "Can I do curls on your hair?". I reply with sure. She uses an iron to make loose curls, which takes 5 min tops. Imagine my surprise when I'm charged an extra $32! Not once did she say "Can I do curls on your hair" means "Can I charge you for curls?". I was going home to feed my family dinner, walk my dogs and put my kids to bed. No way would I have said ok to curling my hair for $32. This is deceitful and shady. A quick Google search shows adding on to services without notifying the customer is common practice at all Ultas. So just stay away from every location. read more

I stopped in about a week and a half ago to return some items I received as gifts. I didn't have a receipt so I was expecting to get store credit, which I did. I received the lowest price the items sold for. The associates were friendly and helpful. Boom. On another occasion a couple months ago, I stopped in and was in search of a particular Maybelline lip product and a Stila mascara. There didn't seem to be many people working the the store that day. I was able to locate the lip item rather quickly. I will say though, the aisles aren't exactly stroller friendly. As I'm browsing, I see they have a very extensive amount of beauty products for sale. Basically anything you might be in search of, it looked like, they have it here. The woman who appeared to be working the front counter asked if I needed any help. I told her which Stila mascara I was seeking. She responded with a very "uppity" persona and corrected me when I said it like "St-eye-la" and she said "Steee-la". Oh weeeeell, soooooooorry! I'm sorry you couldn't get a makeup counter position at Bloomingdales or Saks 5th Ave, but no need to not give me the time of day as well as making me feel embarrassed that I am apparently not as knowledgeable of the products as you. Nex time I go in there in need of something and some help to find it, I'll be sure to ask someone else who won't make me feel out of place. read more

I called last minute today as I was going to attempt to do my own makeup but after watching a few tutorials on how to achieve a 1920's glam look I knew it was a bit complex and I have a limited makeup skill set. I have a 1920's themed gala to attend tonight for work and they were able to get me right in when I called. I was greeted by two other girls working in the salon area and they were both very friendly. Alicia was my stylist/makeup artist. She was friendly, professional and is very talented. I've only had my makeup done at an Ulta one other time so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I knew no matter what it would look better than I could do it. I'm very happy with how my makeup came out. The price was reasonable. I will definitely use the salon at Ulta next time I need to get all glammed up. They are officially on my glam squad! read more

Came to get my hair done by Kya and she was wonderful!! super accommodating throughout the entire process. I went to get a haircut. I asked for 2 inches off and for her to cut my shorter front pieces to my chin. She took off far more than 2 inches, and gave me massive curtain bangs that I can barely put behind my ears. The lady was very nice however I am very upset with how my hair turned out for the price I paid. read more

My stylist asked a lot of questions. I've learned in the past it's better for them to ask because they don't listen to what you say to them. My haircut was too short. Way too short. Nothing like what she said she'd do. After 3 weeks it started to look "ok". I went back to her and she knew my name, appt book, and nothing else. Weren't very helpful today, maybe another day they will be. This store is clean but it seems a bit more cluttered together than some of the other Ultas I've been to which makes it kind of tight to walk around. There's soooo much eye candy here so unless you know exactly what you're going there to get you may be a little overwhelmed. read more

Came here while in town for a wedding and had Tracy as my hair stylist and makeup artist. She had an absolutely wonderful personality and did a fantastic job. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of atmosphere. You're in an Ulta, not a top notch beauty salon. Definitely worth it if you have a special event and want to look good! read more

i was willing to give this place the benefit of the doubt. maybe an off day or something but after 4 visits all going the same way...i can't pretend. some of the women who work here are clearly too young and "pissy" and not mature at all. you walk in and they look at you like you ran over their cats. why not greet customers? i came here and a nice woman helped me at the makeup stations to find what i wanted (some of it i didn't know existed). great recommendations, rebuying all of it (online). however, i shouldn't be halfway through the store before someone helps me. right? when it was time to checkout the same girls at the counter, some vampire wannabe and a chubby girl, stood with their backs to me. laughing and whispering. when i stood there long enough they turned around and were the rudest people ever. i get they may not be happy people but don't act like it's a chore to help me. honestly some of the worst people work here. the older ladies are very nice but they certainly don't balance out the cold, rude and judgmental children. read more

I came into the salon at Ulta in Old Saybrook today and had quite the experience. First off, I received amazing highlights, a beautiful haircut, and some great company while getting my hair done. The staff is extraordinary and I hope they know that. While I was there, another customer made a rude comment to me that was surprising to everyone involved. The only reason I bring it up is because I want people to know how perfectly the situation was handled by the stylists , especially the one working on my hair. They were kind, patient, and compassionate and I am very grateful to have had them there. A stand out moment was when the general manager talked to me and assured me that safety is always a priority in their store. Very professional, extremely talented. I cant recommend them all enough! I love Ulta, but this particular location was not a great experience. I walked in and was not once greeted or asked if I needed help although there were multiple employees standing around and the store was empty. I walked towards the back near the hair salon and two employees were standing in a corner chatting. They both saw me and did not ask if I needed help. As I was leaving there were two women standing up front and I said thank you and they just stared at me. It's unfortunate as I work a few minutes down the road and would go often if the customer service was better. Old Saybrook has a much friendlier staff. read more

Had my first facial ever with Andrea! Such a relaxing and wonderful experience. Andrea is exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. She's got a very calm demeanor which helps you relax. The whole process started with a very warm greeting and I felt instantly at ease. Andrea had me fill out a short medical questionnaire so she can make sure she uses the right products for your skin type etc. She discusses your answers and any skin concerns you have. She does a skin analysis to see what your skin issues are and then she gets to work. The Dermalogica products they use are wonderful! My skin has never felt so great! I set up my appointment a few hours before i needed the time. I was welcomed by staff and Christle was great. I had my nails done by the way. Very quick and on time.
