The ONLY reason Sharon Joy gets a 2 star rating from me is because my stylist Sharon is absolutely incredible! Granted it takes 2 months to get an appointment in her chair, she is still so thorough and no one has ever been able to style/layer my hair the way she does. If she isn't available, I don't book there. Period. In terms of professionalism, Sharon Joy leaves A LOT to be desired (and that's putting it mildly.) There's no receptionist, so customers walk in and aren't greeted. Whatever hairstylist that does finally greet you after sitting there confused for 10 minutes will likely have a snotty attitude and make you feel unwelcome. You'll be waiting at least 40 minutes past your appointment before your head is even touched, which is just ridiculous and a waste of people's time. The one reason I stopped going there is because I booked an appointment on a Tuesday with Sharon. It wasn't until I arrived that I discovered they're CLOSED on Tuesdays. So whomever I confirmed the appointment with was either not paying attention or didn't know what they were doing. Again, lack of professionalism. Terrible customer service, terrible time management skill, but if you're a patient person (like I once was) you'll love the way your hair comes out if you're willing to withstand the BS. read more

I had to wait a long time to write this review; I needed to claim down and reflect on how this experience went so terribly wrong. Still, after much reflection, its still not clear to me. I made an appointment, they said be on time, I was, and I still had to wait a ridiculously long time. When the stylist finally called me over, she presented me to a "shampoo girl" who was supposed to wash my hair and add deep conditioner to put me under the dryer. This poor girl was completely unskilled, splashing water all over my face and onto my clothes. I tried to call her attention to the splashing, she apologized and got right back to splashing (sigh). After she took me out of the dryer and rinsed the deep conditioner, my scalp still felt like it had build up. At that point, I had been there for two hours and I was sooo over the experience. Finally, I sat down and saw the stylist. I told her I wanted a roller set and she tried to talk me out of it. WHAT? The nerve! She said I had "too much" new growth and that the roller set would not come out smooth. EXCUSE ME? OH NO SHE DIDN'T! I was only 3 weeks post-relaxer, what was this woman talking about? My usual hairstylist can get a roller set to look smooth even 8 weeks post-relaxer! I was fed up! I told her to do my roller set and I would deal with the "consequences." She begrudgingly did it (it took her forever) and, just as I thought, it came out fine. At the end (four hours later), I told her to leave the curls (I wrapped it myself at home), grease my scalp, I paid, and I ran out of there like a bat out of you know where. NEVER AGAIN! read more

SharonJoy Salon gives you a welcomed and relaxed feel as soon as you open the door. The stylists are professional and classy. My stylist is Joy and she can literally do anything to my hair and I always LOVE it. From the colors to the cuts. I absolutely love coming to Sharon and Joy Salon. The ambiance and people are extremely inviting. I have been a customer for numerous years and love the way my hair is styled and treated. Sharon and Joy salon is so good that my whole family frequents this lovely establishment. The stylist who straightened my hair twice does an amazing job. My first experience at this salon was fine, so I came back for a 2nd appointment ready to make them my primary salon. I booked an 11:30am appointment. When I walked in, the waiting room was completely full. They have a girl who is the wash girl and I guess she was going to leave around noon, so she washed all of us girls waiting there and headed out. I didn't realize that all of the girls there had booked an appointment with the same lady, so I sat watching girl after girl get worked on. All these girls had perms, I don't, so I would take longer and therefore, I would have to go last. They didn't say this, but that's what it felt like. I didn't actually sit in the styling seat until about 6 or 7pm. I would have left if my hair wasn't already washed and I didn't REALLY need my hair done, because like I said, she does an excellent job. When I finally got worked on, I was literally the last person in the shop with the stylist. By this point I was very irritated, but the stylist was friendly and apologizing. She even took a bit of money off my bill, but then she burnt me really bad. It was a weird electrical shock or something where the pain was very gradual. I had a scab the next day on my ear. I didn't even tip and I feel bad, but honestly they wasted my whole day with their weird wash girl setup, overbooking, and forcing me to go last. It takes maybe 2hrs to wash and straighten my natural hair. This appointment should not have taken 8+ hours. It gets 3 stars because the stylist is good at what she does. read more

I tried so hard not to write this because I genuinely do like this salon & the people in it - BUT it burned my soul to have paid $180 for a sew in that I knew was COMPLETELY JACKED UP. Normally, I would've went off but I couldnt do that because I admire the place, ppl, plus it was Joy's bday & DEF didnt want to ruin her beautiful day. However I will NEVER EVER get a sew in from here that involves a frontal. Long story LONGGG... I went natural 3 months ago & chopped my hair to a TWA. Had a wedding to attend & wanted a full sew in with no leave out. Normally I go to my cousin but due to an unforseen situation I decided to make an impromptu last minute session with Kim. I witnessed their work before & assumed from their reviews they were GREAT. As well, I specifically explained to Kim that I had a full lace frontal on top the fact I was natural & didnt want any leave out. She seemed understanding, willing, & completely able to do my hair with the lace - so I booked the appt. Came in the next day & through a mix up arrived 3 hours early, nevertheless, Kim was gracious enough to take me in still & I was utterly thankful for that. She was truly a pleasant person, HOWEVER, she had no idea what she was doing with my lace closure; & clearly neither did the other working women in there. A lace closure goes to the front of your hairline (mimicking it) - yet she decided to install it further back. I figured she was a pro at this - since she proclaimed shes a "PERFECTIONIST" yet it was far from it. She used so much lace glue that there were globs of it ALL over my hair. It was so bad she had to chop up my $60 FULL lace frontal to get it to look not even half way decent after her mishap. I was a bit perturbed at that but figured she'd fix it & that is where it all went wrong. After she finished she had lace still showing in all areas - I asked her was she cutting it because the point of the FULL LACE frontal was to get a part on any side but from the way she applied it - that was absolutely IMPOSSIBLE! She stated she couldn't because it would make the lace not stay put! Smdh! She had so much lace stuck to my head I had to nicely explain to her this isn't even remotely right. So she proceeds to apply black semi perm dye to the lace to blend it in. Yet, that still isnt cutting it especially with globs of glue all over my head. Explained again this isnt correct, so she proceeds to try & fix it some more by removing the glue - but its so much she has to start cutting my closure EVEN more. She cut so much lace - the top of my braids were showing. She then proceeded to tell me i was done & was really going to let me walk out like that - until i said something. So she decides to take it upon herself to pull down on the frontal &  try more lace glue - OH& SPRAY WEAVE BONDING GLUE ONTO MY FRONTAL too to hold it down! SMH! She just was clearly clueless when it came to frontals & i wish she wouldve just advised me on the fact that she didnt have a clue - rather than to waste my time & money. Another issue I had was my head is small & normally people double up the tracks at the bottom at least to give the hair some fullness but she had my sew in so thin looking! I ended up just being so over all her trial & constant errors that I just asked "how much" - paid it - even tipped her $15; just for her time & trying her best to fit me in, along with trying her best to fix what she COMPLETELY & UTTERLY messed up. She's probably a decent weavestress but frontals are not her forte & I will never ever go there for that again nor recommend her! Lovely girl but she just wasnt up to par with the way she proclaimed to be because my hair was anything but what a true perfectionist would've sent out into the world - as her work! Aint no way in HELL this was worth almost $200. She should be ashamed for that! It was so bad i went home & reworked my hair my own self by reapplying the lace front to the best that i could & adding more hair to the back! Smh! Thankfully, I know how to do my own sew ins because I would've been looking JACKED at the wedding! read more

I would love to tell about my hair style, or even the stylist, but . . . unfortunately, I can't. I walked in to the salon and, after no one spoke to me, found someone (not sure who, because she never introduced herself) who worked there. I told her my name, and who I scheduled an appointment with, and she walked away. I had a seat, and for over thirty minutes, no one said a word to me. The stylist never introduced herself, nothing. Thinking that this did not bode well for a) the level of service I would receive and b) how long it would take for me to actually get serviced if I waited, I left.
