The staff at this Ulta store were extremely rude, especially the manager with short hair. They treated the teenagers poorly and made my daughter feel bullied. My daughter went shopping with her friend and paid for a product in Cash. She was never asked to create an account or provide a phone number at the time of purchase. When she got home, she changed her mind and decided to return the product. She had both the item and the receipt, and the return was well within the allowed time frame (1 week). However, the employees told her that she had to provide a valid phone number in order to complete the return--something she was never required to provide when she originally paid in Cash. They also forced she take Store Credit instead of issuing a Cash refund. Because she felt pressured, she ended up giving them my phone number just so the return could be processed. A few days later, I noticed that points were deducted from my personal Ulta account, even though I never received any points from her transaction in the first place. This is completely unacceptable. read more

Ulta is the best! Shannon assisted me and recommended a few products that I love! She was so helpful and friendly. It's a great store.

One of the managers might've missed the memo on what customer service actually means. I asked for help opening a perfume cabinet, and she snapped and dismissed me saying in a VERY rude and snarky tone, "I'm helping a customer, wait in line," while... stocking shelves. Unless the shelves are now paying customers, that's a pretty bold excuse. She had an attitude that screamed, "You're ruining my day by existing." She looked at me like I was the bane of her existence. If you're annoyed at a customer asking for help, why are you a manager. Another employee saw the whole thing and said she's never seen anything like it. If this is the kind of energy you promote to management, it might be time for Ulta to reflect on who you're putting in charge. A manager sets the tone and this one is absolutely not who you want as a manager. Do better, Ulta. This is very disappointing. read more

Awful customer service, rude, disinterested and just down right mean. This is the salon. I don't know what it is about stylist these days but y'all snotty to people. After walking around not sure what to get for my daughter (who needs make up for a dance recital) we were about to walk out when I saw an associate at the front of the store. I asked her for help and she was great! She help us pick out mascara, eye liner and a red lip color of "dancer". We worked with a few associates on staff for different areas as well for assistance. It's my third terrible experience at this place, so I decided to write a review. The store is very clean and well organized, but the staff is incredibly rude. I understand that nobody can know absolutely everything about every product in stock, but even the most basic questions are answered with a shrug and "I'm not sure, you should check". I complimented a manager on her makeup and asked if she could tell me which blush she used, she just said "it's a mix of several actually" and walked away. At checkout, not a hello, please, or thank you. They just announce the total and wait for your card to process. I made quite a large purchase this week, and several of my items were part of Free Gift offers. When I asked, the cashier didn't answer at all. I asked again, not grabbing my bag, and she didn't answer again, so I took a few steps and asked the 3 employees standing in the corner chatting. Two stared at me, the third one just blurted out "No." I repeated my question, and I managed to get "it's only while supplies last, unfortunately." The fact that the gifts have run out is not an issue at all, but I wish I was simply told that without having to ask four employees. Same thing with out of stock items, or if they don't know something very specific about a product, but everybody being so incredibly rude every single time puts me at my wit's end. read more

Yesterday I stopped in for a specific item. This was body makeup that had previously been suggested by one of the employees to replace the one I had (and kudos for that too!). While in there, I decided that I wanted to try a new eye look for a wedding this weekend. Tia helped me, and she spent a lot of time finding the right combination of new colors and my comfort level. She also walked me through exactly how to use them to create a good look for me. At checkout, the cashier, Jenna, helped me apply four an Ulta card and apply my extra points. It took a while to figure out it was a technical difficulty, and she stayed with me while we called support to get it addressed. That call ran over 30 minutes, and at no time was she impatient with me. She was as frustrated as I was with support, and made sure we were talking to the right people and explaining the problem succinctly. She was AMAZING! Best service ever, I will also be singling them out for kudos at Ulta as well. No more Sephora for me - I am a happy Ulta customer! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Came in for appointment at 315 for a balayage. I was acknowledged right away and was told my wait would be a few minutes. It's 400 and still no one has come and started my appointment that was due to start 45 mins ago. Once we got started I was told my appointment would be unable to be achieved in one go which I totally understand with bleaching. My hair is a dark brown and I was looking to lift it about 9 levels. We get started and she didn't bother to ask me how I part it or style it. Once we were done... it looked TERRIBLE. It's patchy, orange yellow and platinum. She bleached it for 20 mins and it's completely uneven. She didn't process the root at all, and she toned it for 10 mins. I could tell she was in a rush to leave since her shift ended at 6 and we didn't get done until 730. While I appreciate that she stayed late she didn't give ANYTHING close to the result I wanted. Now I'm waiting for a salon manager to talk to me to see if I have to PAY to get this corrected. If I'm going a second time to fix it, I'm going somewhere with better quality. The kicker is I'm getting engaged and taking photos soon and now I just wanna hide my hair! Never go To Ulta and get Jaunte... I should have gone else Update: Ulta has gotten back to me but will not be correcting the service free of charge. They claimed they would take off 20% at most. That's absurd in my opinion. I am a huge Sephora fan, but lately I have been branching out into products that only Ulta offers. Let me first say that I know Ultas can be amazing, because the one in my hometown was incredible. I reserved judgment on this one until not one, not two, but all three of my visits turned out to be a total waste of my time. First of all, they are horribly stocked and frequently out of...well, everything. Don't even think of asking for suggestions or recommendations because you won't even receive an intelligible response. (Cross reference to Sephora, where they have me buying products I never even knew I needed and love for the rest of my life). Second of all, all of their products are in the incorrect place, which makes it impossible to browse new products if you don't want to pick up every single one and make sure that the name on the bottom matches the label on the shelf. It won't. Every time it won't. Next. When I do need a specific product, I first check online to ensure that it is in stock. Then, I drive to the store to find--you guessed it--that the product is not in stock. The staff (when they can be found, which is rare) looks irritated when you ask them to help you find something. They roll their eyes, sigh, and begrudgingly muster up a half attempt, only to conclude ceremoniously with, "Well I don't know why we don't have it. So strange. Sorry." Once I was told that a truck would come to restock the product I needed over the weekend. I foolishly came back the next week only to be greeted by an empty shelf and a bewildered look from the staff-member of whom I inquired. Side note: Despite discovering that they were out of what I needed, I decided to purchase a make-up brush I have been wanting. There were two employees completely re-doing the shelving area where my brush was located, and they had tools and supplies entirely obstructing the shelf. I walked up and they both glared at me and then turned around, so I just left. I didn't need a red carpet rolled out, but I did need not to be glared at for daring to want a product on the shelf where they were working. Don't even get me started on the hand-held credit card device they use when the product you need is inevitably out of stock and they have to order it for you. On two separate occasions the device has failed to read my card, forcing me to buy a gift card at the register in the amount that I need, and then pay with the gift card on the hand-held device. This is the actual worst beauty store that I have ever been to. read more

I went in needing makeup without a specific ingredient. I had been searching for an hour elsewhere before coming to the store. KATELYNN helped me find ~everything~ I needed and was sooo nice and personable the entire time. She even got my awkward sense of humor I had a really great experience and thanks again Katelynn. I had my hair done on my birthday at Ulta Salon because my original hair stylist had to cancel last minute. it was great to get in the salon on only a few hours notice but I wasn't super happy about the experience. I've also gotten my hair cut at Ulta a few times & have never had a bad experience. I have the left side of my head shaved, for reference. I showed a photo of a braided updo with the braid of the left side of the head. I said to the stylist, I was thinking about something like this- boho, hippy, birthday inspo. She said in a snarky tone "you don't have any hair on the left side, so i cant braid that side of your head." I'm aware that I have my head shaved and I said okay, I know that, this is just the inspo picture. After I told her it was my birthday, she lightened up a bit. She also kept calling me cute which felt kinda as if she was talking to me like I'm a child. Also, when I said I'm turning 25, she said she was old enough to be my mother and also laughing about it with other women in the salon, saying their kids are older than me. Maybe it was in good fun but I felt kinda like I was being laughed it. Also, my hair did look nice but it felt rushed a bit and my hair was kinda frizzy/messy after like she was in a rush. It was great for short notice but I paid 100 dollars and felt the work didn't reflect that. I usually love ulta salon but this trip was not the best. I will keep coming back for haircuts though but may be hesitant about getting my hair styled here again. Also, photos were taken right after I walked out of the salon. read more

I visit this Ulta location every other week for hair products since they are one of the only places in Madison that carry the brand I need. Out of the two years I've been shopping here unfortunately I've only had 1 or two good experiences when related to customer service. Employees never seem to ask if I need help looking for something and rarely make eye contact. I have observed them asking other customers if they need help though, so maybe I just have constant b face. I'm not sure if it's because of the time of day I'm visiting (which is usually in the evening) and they are just tired and ready to go home or if it's something else. I worked in customer service for almost 10 years so I understand how draining it can be, but I don't believe that's an excuse to provide poor service. However, when it comes to carrying the products I am looking for they do keep them pretty well stocked which is why I gave them 3 stars instead of two. But alas, I think I'll just be visiting my salon to purchase my products from now on. read more

I have been to many Ulta's and this one has the best staff I have ever encountered. They are amazing. They have helped me so many times whether it was finding the right tanning solutions, face creams, etc/ They don't try to upsell me or have me by the most expensive stuff which is typical for most businesses. They actually try to help me find the RIGHT one, and care about budget. They really have impressed me. Before my college graduation, I raced in here to get eyelashes at the last minute and didn't even know how to apply them. One of the people working helped me pick out ones that fit the look I was going for, showed me where to cut them, and how to apply them. I literally couldn't have done it without them, and they made my photos look phenomenal. This is just one example of the many positive experiences I have had here. They always make time and are willing to help. I am so glad to have them near me. Thanks Ryan and everyone who's helped me here, I love you all! read more

I guess I was pretty spoiled with the East Side location. This place was pretty packed and the parking really sucked. It's super cramped. It's a nice and clean store just really hard to find things in it. Maybe because I'm not used to it? There was only one person that asked if I needed help looking for something and I wasn't greeted as soon as I walked in here. At the East Side location, you get greeted as soon as you walk in. The lighting was super bright! I bet you can get away with wearing sunglasses in here. Sheesh! I got super self conscious because I felt like people can see every single pore or every single imperfection on my face. Maybe that was their idea but... I think we'll be okay with the light just a tad bit dimmer..? Anyway, nice place overall. Didn't really find what I needed. Their eyelash section is terrible read more

THE worst customer service ever... and I've been there 20+ times. It's as if the people working there try to avoid helping anyone. The last time I went in 2 people working there were standing right at the entrance, I walked right in between them, they didn't greet me, and they continued their non-work conversation. In addition to having unhelpful people on the floor, there's always a wait to check out - why can't the unhelpful people on the floor at least help at the register? I have been here twice and don't have problems finding stuff I want. It's a bit disorganized sometimes but not an issue for me. The nail polish bar needs to have more options and colors. Overall whenever I have been here I was checked out fast with no issues at all. I haven't used salon services so can't comment on that. The staff here is kind and helpful- but also give you space if you want it. I probably stop in a couple times a month. I love the broad selection, there's the high end beauty and skin products, but then there's also lower priced products you'd find at a drug store. They also have a really great selection of hair care products. I think the best part of Ulta is that they constantly have some sort of deal going on- especially if you're a rewards member. I never pay full price there are I don't even try! They also have a fantastic return policy. I bought an urban decay eye liner that dried out after a month. I didn't keep the receipt or anything but they were able to look up the transaction in their system and gave me store credit and suggested some other options to try instead. read more

Prices online are cheaper than in this store. Had to fight to get the same price in store and treated as if I was the one who was wrong and took several cashiers and over five minutes to get my items. It was not worth my time in the end doing so and I will not return. They said they typically will not honor prices that are online!...and they definitely would have lost my decently sized sale if they did not. If you advertise a price online you need to honor in stores!! That is transparency and good business ethics..especially if a customer comes in after browsing the internet and that is the price they are expecting to see (and why wouldn't they?) at the stores. read more

I stop into Ulta a few times a year to stock up on products when they offer the 20% off purchase including prestige brands. I wish Sephora would offer the same discounts because I would gladly take my business there. From my experiences the Ulta staff are not approachable and lack brand/product knowledge. read more

If I could give this store ZERO stars, I would. Tonight, my husband and I stopped in to Ulta near West Towne Mall in Madison, Wisconsin. I was in the market for a travel size set of electric curlers. I am 63 years old and I was on an electric scooter due to illness. When we entered the store there were maybe 4-5 other customers present. There were at least 4-5 sales people, none of which was actively working with a customer. We entered the store, looked all around at the headings to try to locate the hair appliances before trying to fit the scooter down the aisles. We found the header, which sent us all the way to the back wall; my husband had to personally move a standing display poster to allow my scooter access to the aisle without knocking any merchandise over. He carefully replaced it once we had passed. Still not a single sales girl approached us. We found the electric curlers; we spent AT LEAST 30 minutes opening and carefully reclosing about ten different types of curlers from Conair to John Frieda, checking for size and types. Not a single salesperson approached us. The store did not fill up with customers. Finally, my husband went off in search of someone to help us. About ten minutes later, he returned with a young woman who looked decidedly peeved. When we asked her the prices of two of the sets, she rolled her eyes and pointed to a tiny white label on the front of the shelf that held some of the appliances. The print was far too small for me to read without putting my face directly in front of it - difficult to do from the seat of a scooter. The girl never did define a price for us, although now that she had pointed out the tiny labels, my husband made a guess at the prices. However, I decided not to purchase the curlers at this Ulta location. Employees who are that rude and uncaring to customers do not deserve their jobs. This was the second time that we had been treated with complete lack of attention or respect at this store. I will never, ever shop there again. read more

This place needs WORK. On more than one occasion I've walked in looking for something and left, because a) i couldn't find it on my own, and b) there was not a soul in sight to help me find what I was looking for. On another occasion I attempted to schedule with teh Brow bar, and was called twice to tell me my appointment had been canceled (their employee didn't show up), and then when I actually showed up, the person I was scheduled with wasn't there, so had to wait 30 minutes past my appointment time!). read more

I called the corporate customer service number to complain, and they just had the specific store give me a call. I missed it and called back this morning, but they said to call back later, which was super rude. After I hung up I was like "actually I shouldn't have to wait, someone should help me right now" and tried calling them back but my cell service was being spotty so it didn't go through. I called them again just now and Mackenzie (the one who originally told me it was free) was super rude and said she didn't like to be accused of lying while basically accusing me of lying in the same sentence. She literally used gaslighting techniques to try to convince me that she didn't say what she did, or that i was making it up, when she should have said "I'm so sorry, we had a miscommunication, let me refund you!" or something along those lines. Maybe she didn't intentionally lie to me, maybe it really was a miscommunication! But either way I shouldn't have been treated the way I was and I should've gotten a full refund/gift card/something. In the end she said she could give me $23 of the total back but I have to go into the store again for it to be processed. At least it's something, but I shouldn't have had to deal with this at all, especially considering how rude everyone was! Hope no one else ever has the misfortune of dealing with the people at this store, especially Mackenzie. 0 stars. read more

The area that has fallen down hard is the service. I can never find anyone to help me and there have been times when I have walked out due to not being able to access help. I should preface my experience by saying that the manager of the store did help in some way to try to make the situation better; however, I will NEVER give money to this particular store for their beauty services ever again. So how my story goes: I wanted a fresh face of makeup and my hair curled for my engagement photos. I am not very good at makeup and just wanted a fresh look for pictures and NOT a glam look since I wanted my engagement photos to look natural. I decided to do it at Ulta since it was relatively cheaper and I shop there a lot. When looking online I booked a hair curl apt (30 mins, $30) and an everyday makeup application (45 mins, $45)... so I was looking to spend about $75 dollars which I was okay with. When I got to my appointment the beautician that was supposed to do my makeup and hair (Elsa was her name)started off by asking what I wanted I wanted done. I explained to her that I wanted a fresh face of makeup and my hair curled for my engagement photos. Right away she pushed for me to get fake eyelashes (which I did not want since I wanted to look natural). She would not let up on the subject so I finally caved.. she said she would only charge me $10 for the individual ones (which was nice to not charge me the full amount but I really didn't want them). After this she asked how I wanted my hair and I explained I just wanted my hair waved. She immediately fought me on this as well and told me I should have my hair curled curled, like ringlets. After I said a couple times that's not what I wanted she finally agreed. After discussion of what I wanted she went through the pricing for how she was going to charge me. She told me that I was going to be charged $60 for the makeup (because it was now a formal makeup application... I shouldn't have everyday makeup because I'm getting pictures done) and my hair was going to be $75... aka I was going to be paying almost $200 for my appointment. I was APPALLED and did not understand how a simple hair curling was going to be $75 dollars. She claimed that my hair was too long (it is a little longer than my shoulders) and thick for just a 30 minute hair-do (and for the record my hair is extremely thin). I told her I can curl my hair in 15 mins TOPS. We went back and forth for awhile with her not giving any semblance of a real reason as to why she would charge me $75 besides that I have longer hair. (????) I was sitting in the chair panicking on how I was going to do my own hair since I did not bring anything and my pictures were in 2 hours. Finally a manger came over (Ashley) and asked what the issue was. I explained to her that the beautician wanted to charge me $75 to curl my hair. She pulled the beautician aside and when they came back she told me she (she meaning the manager) would curl my hair while the other did my makeup. The one doing my makeup was constantly running around trying to find more makeup and was not prepared to do my makeup really at all. An appointment that should have taken 45 mins (because they were doing my makeup and hair simultaneously) ended up taking almost 2 hours. And mind you-- I have had my makeup done by a professional beautician before WITH airbrushing, fake eyelashes the whole thing and it took her maybe 45 mins. At the end of all this, I ended up paying $110 AND the beautician who did my makeup claimed on the bill that she did both my hair and makeup (which I only found out when I said I wanted to tip them both and the cashier was confused as to why there was only one name). The beautician's (Elsa) whole persona was a huge turn off and not someone I would want to do my makeup again. She was trying to push her own agenda which was VERY upsetting. Aka constantly trying to charge me more money and do what she wanted to do rather than what I wanted. Don't get me wrong the makeup looked decent. But it was not what I wanted. I even asked her to cut down the eyelashes before I left. The entire time I was sitting in the chair I felt like I was being up-selled (I know not a word). The beautician that did my make up was just trying to make more money.... that's all I can say from this situation. I am still very upset about the whole thing... it was not what I expected. As an almost DIAMOND member of Ulta I expected WAY better service and most importantly to get what I wanted. For some $200 may have seemed legit but for that money I am going to a nice salon and getting the works done. Not sitting at Ulta where they pull the beauty products off the shelf. I want to start by saying that my situation was handled with fairness, kindness and professionalism on the part of Ulta... But I still wish the situation had not happened at all. I want to post my story simply to inform consumers of my experience - take it or leave it. I had been coming to the salon for a while - getting highlights a few times. My highlights had been great. I wanted to go a little darker for the winter (I'm naturally dark brunette). Other salons have done all over dark with me before on top of my highlights without any problems. But 3 hours later I left with red hair. It was awful. My money was refunded without me having to argue too much. But I still had to get it fixed - getting color fixed is much more expensive than just getting color. So even though my money was refunded, I spent way more than I wanted in the end. And to make matters worse... (5 months later) The prior text occurred in January, 2015. - where my roots were "burned" or "fiery" or whatever they call it has now grown out and even after two other salons have worked to fix my color, I still have a clearly visible line where my hair takes color differently than the rest of my head. There is an ever-present streak/halo around my head. And I'm getting married in 5 months. So... proceed with caution. read more

I love it here!!!!! They always have every product that I am looking for (except for one but it was exclusive to Sephora). Their customer service is AMAZING!!! Usually when I go in there I know what I want. You aren't even in through the door and someone is always greeting you and asking if you need help. Everyone is so nice and friendly. So disappointed and disgusted with the salon staff, made an appointment for my daughter to get her hair flat ironed which should've been $30, called the day before to add a trim and was told it would be a total of $55, they charged her $85. Called and talked to the manager after she told me and she said that the haircut alone was $55 and that whoever it was told me wrong. I expressed that that shouldn't be my fault, that's theirs, and all she had to say was I'm sorry, but she loved her hair! What a ripoff!! I feel like they totally took advantage of a teenage girl who went to her appointment alone. It may not be a big deal to you Ulta but you lost our business today. read more
