As I was communicating, I felt like I was imposing. Since she had never done my hair before, I explained my preferences & showed her a photo from her work. After the highlight foils were removed, her assistant shampooed my hair & said she was putting on a "Color Blend", I asked her about it and she said she'd get my stylist. The stylist stomped in and just stood there. (I had wanted to know if it was the same as a 'glaze' & to ask if I needed that.) Then she said sternly "I require all my services to have it, it's mandatory." (At that point I had taken out my phone & seen that my streaks were pure white) so I said "OK I see it needs it." She did an about-face and stomped off. The entire appointment went on like this. Stomping up, stomping away. She asked if I wanted bangs and I told her they often don't lay straight. I said "What do you think?" and she answered me with the scissors and cut bangs. If she didn't want to do my hair she could have cancelled, she could have said I'm sorry I'm not feeling well, anything. I wouldn't have know the difference & she would have saved both of us from a miserable two hours & saved me $355.00 & my hair. Why didn't I say anything? She unsnapped that cape so fast, I got the message, & she was right on time for her 11:00 appt. My hair color? The cut? Well let's just say no one is going to ask me who did my hair & she didn't take a photo. I'm not naming her because I don't wish to impact someone's livelihood. Had she been civil, the poor outcome may have been somewhat easier to take. It will take time for my hair to recover, it was just a very strange, unpleasant experience. First, a word about parking: I have a bad back and some difficulty walking any distance. I was concerned about where I'd park because Newtown boro isn't exactly known for its wealth of convenient, store-adjacent parking. But there is a small parking lot just below the salon that has about ten spots, including handicapped spots. From there it was just a quick walk up the sidewalk and into the alleyway to the salon ... perfect! Now for the experience itself. I have a mane of thick, curly hair that sorely needs cutting and styling. The night before, however, I'd decided on the spur of the moment that it would be a real treat just to get my hair professionally washed, blown dry, and flat ironed. I was searching through area salons on Google and noticed that Sharon Brown's accepts online appointment bookings! So at 10 pm on a Friday evening, I was able to book an appointment for 10:15 on Saturday morning. Score! That's definitely a service that more businesses should offer. The salon itself is bright, cheery, and unassuming. There is a main level, where I was, and there is also an upstairs loft. There's a big window in the front that lets a lot of natural light in even on a gray day, and there were slightly kitschy Easter egg decorations on the mirror at each station. You'd never feel as though you had to "dress" up a notch to spend your money here (unlike some other salons in our town). I was greeted with a big hello and smile by everyone whose path I crossed on my way to the reception desk; then I was introduced to my stylist, and taken right back for my shampoo. No waiting, I was taken right on time. My shampoo was fine; they used nice-smelling products that didn't seem to either strip my hair or weigh it down with too much conditioning gook. The shampoo chair-to-sink fit could've been a little better for a taller person like me, but it wasn't a big deal. My stylist asked me what I wanted done; I was a little surprised that I was being given an option, given that I'd specified my service when I'd made my online reservation. My stylist was nicely chatty vs unbearably talkative and over-sharing. She blew my hair dry without incident and flat ironed it. When she was finished, I was totally relaxed and my hair looked fabulous! It still needs a good cutting, but a professional styling by someone who knows what she's doing can work wonders! I gave my experience 4 stars rather than 5 because my impromptu blow-dry-and-flat-iron treat cost me $55, including the tip. I just thought that was a little pricey for that particular service; you may disagree. It was probably a little more than average due to the length and volume of my hair. If we could allocate partial stars, my rating would've actually been a 4.5. But I just wanted to provide a heads-up. Final verdict: Sharon Brown Highly Recommended IS highly recommended!
