I walked into Ulta fully expecting there to be nothing in there for me. In my head, I was still a former Sephora snob. I used to be a Nars, Laura Mercier, Chanel, Armani kind of makeup girl. I spent thousands a year without thinking twice. Prestige counters. Designer packaging. The whole thing. So I honestly did not think Ulta would have much to offer me. And then I started browsing. Not five minutes. Not a quick glance. I actually walked the aisles for at least an hour. And fairly quickly, I realized there are lots and lots of makeup solutions to be had in there if you drop the attitude and just look. What shifted for me is this: it is less about the brand now and more about what the brand is going to do for me specifically. As you get older, your makeup needs change. Mine absolutely have. I am far more into healthy skin and healthy lips than I am into a bold lipstick. I hardly wear lipstick anymore because so many formulas dry my lips out, make them crack, and peel. I have also become more sensitive to certain chemicals, which has naturally slowed down my spending. I used to buy constantly. Now I barely buy anything new unless it really serves a purpose. And here is where Ulta makes sense. Drugstore brands have stepped up. Maybelline, for example, has dramatically improved their product offerings over the years. I would much rather buy a cheaper mascara and replace it frequently than cling to an expensive one just because of the name. Mascara tubes collect bacteria. I prefer to toss them often. And frankly, Maybelline has some terrific mascaras for the money. Just ask the Love Islanders. The biggest realization for me was that I am not brand loyal. I am result loyal. If something works for my skin, my sensitivity level, and my budget, that is what I am buying. It is high time I get over being a former Sephora loyalist and admit that Ulta actually makes a lot of sense for where I am now. Saving money while still getting what I need feels smarter than paying for a logo. My reasoning has changed. My skin has changed. And apparently, so has my makeup strategy. read more

My friend and I had a nice experience here when we went Saturday to get blowouts and strip lashes. Neither one of us had done either service before but we thought it'd be something fun to do to get ready gif a wedding we were attending. The lash portion is very quick and I thought reasonable priced. Out lash person advised in some lashes she prefers and we liked them because they were more natural. We both thought it came out pretty. The blowout process is nice, my stylist was very good about explaining what she was using as she went along and we had a nice conversation. They wash, condition, blow dry, and use a curling iron. Unfortunately my waves didn't stay long but that could be my hair because it does not like to cooperate. We thought the employees were nice and helpful and we agree we'd def do the lashes again. read more

I have been going to this Ulta in-store salon for a few years. I would get whatever stylist was available until I found someone that I couldn't live without! Tiffany has done my hair a few times now and she always achieves exactly what I envisioned. She is the only stylist that has been able to cut my hair the way I like in my life! I went in today looking for AG products because I needed a water based brand since I have super curly hair . When I walked in the first employee was brand new and wasn't sure where the products were located which was perfectly fine . She walked over to another employee for help and was told its some where over there while pointing in a large section . I began searching the area she pointed in and I was able to find the items on my own . At that point I figured I wouldn't ask for any more help and fattempt to find what I needed on my own . While shopping around I realized I couldn't find the rizo diffuser but seen it was in stock in store via the app so I hand no choice but to ask for help again. I noticed two employees walking out the back so I took the opportunity to say excuse me in hopes of getting help . Both employees looked at me and continued walking . At this point I was gonna leave my entire basket and walk out but I really needed the products. So unfortunately I had to follow the female employee saying excuse me multiple times that completely ignored me to find the last item I needed . As someone who works in customer service it is clear that this location needs re training on there service to better help customers . In the fifteen minutes I was in the store I could not wait to just get out . No customer should have to follow any employee around to try to get help . read more

They have everything you need and even some great stuff for guys and a salon for appts and walk ins. There is always a line for a cashier but it goes quick. Don't waste your money. Spent $179 on foils and a so called haircut and a blow dry that a child could've done better. Foil color was great, but lasted about 6 washings. Haircut was not a haircut but "stylist" picking portions of hair up and chopping spots, then the blow dry a child could do. Do not recommend and won't go back. Didn't want the darn haircut, but she convinced me. Should've stuck to my guns. Good luck to others. I particularly don't like going here because the times I've went the workers were rude and made me feel uncomfortable. So if I have to go I'll go knowing exactly what I want, get it, & get out. Today when I went I needed a new flat iron I'm which I knew nothing about. I came across 2 young ladies that were extremely helpful & didn't mind answering my questions. It would be nice to give it 0 stars. I have naturally curly hair. My hair was long and it was loose when I went to Ulta. I had not put any dye on my hair for almost 20 years. The girl that did my hair said "wow your hair would be so easy to work with. My mom has curly hair like you." I asked her several times if she knew how do style my hair she said yes. Over and over again. So they convinced me to do it. Boy do I regret it. My hair had patches of dye on it. It looked horrible. Her next appointment showed up she basically handed me over to the next girl to work with my hair. The lady saw my hair and asked to reschedule her appointment with someone else. Yes it was that bad. They asked to go back the next day that someone else will fix the mess. I went back and it was another horrible day. The girl put hair dye on my hair and went to lunch. Lovely. My scalp was hurting so bad. When she washed it I told her it hurts. Again her next appointment came in and she sent me to someone one else to finish. Due to all of this my hair fell off so much. My hair is in the worse condition it has been in my whole life. I will never go back at all. This has been the worse experience ever. And I still had to pay $250 for the horrible job that they did. As I was leaving the stylist and her friend were talking about me in front of the client. So if you want to do your hair save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I hadn't gotten a cut or color in ages; I was scissor-shy after a series of bad cuts and waiting so long to go to the salon. Brandi was my stylist and she put me at ease. She really knows her stuff and let me know what she was doing every step of the way. She didn't cut off too much at once - she took her time. Three hours later (at least!) 10+ inches of hair was gone and the color was exactly what I wanted. Since I was there for a while, I noticed the other stylists were super friendly and talented. Everyone seemed to enjoy working, and it was a relaxing atmosphere. It helps that the salon is inside Ulta. After your services, they sell anything and everything product-wise. read more

Good luck trying to do a legitimate return past 60 days. They will try every which way to deny it or give you a hard time about it. I went up there trying to swap a same for same powder that had broken up and I even had the receipt and they gave me such a hard time exchanging it. (Fortunately that manager is no longer there) Their motto should be 100% hassle all the time for returns at this store. Be careful.... they will give you every reason in the book why they won't take a return back. Have to call CS to let them know this store does not follow company policy and make up their own rules so their daily sales numbers don't get hit by a return. Then the store will flat out lie on you to corporate and corporate will not force them to do the return. There is no oversight for this poor customer service. So shady! I've caught one of the store's manager in several lies that she's told just to avoid taking a return. Really unethical and immoral.... how lies just roll off her tongue without her batting an eye. Very disappointing experience. I drove all the way from brooksville to exchange the dyson I just bought for the airwrap. I called yesterday to make sure it was in stock (I called multiple locations) and the employee I spoke with told me the airwrap was in fact in stock. So today I drive ALL the way out to exchange them bc I opened the cc and I know the airwrap hasn't been in stock in most stores. After waiting in line for a hot minute I finally get told by a manager that it WASNT in stock. I informed her I called yesterday and I was told otherwise and that "some of her new employees aren't up to par yet" that's a poor excuse for waisting a customers time, gas, etc that's willing to spend so much money in your store let alone with a cc. Poor management and lack of communication shouldn't be blamed on your employees. There was no attempt to even make it right. I just got "sorry" and was sent on my way. Needless to say this is my least favorite location and probably won't be back. Store was very unorganized, dirty and just a hot mess. read more

When the weather got hot and sticky again, about two weeks ago, I had just about had it with my thick, frizzy, curly hair and the Florida humidity. I called Ulta Salon and talked with someone about my hair issues and made an appointment for the next day. Karen was my stylist and really took the time to look at and come up with a plan for my problem hair. We cut off a few inches, thinned the back a bit and she really gave me a very flattering cut. She did a beautiful job of styling and flat ironing my hair and I left the salon feeling pretty and pampered. It's now two weeks later and I've decided that I'm going back for a smoothing treatment on Saturday - I called and made my appointment with Karen and I'll be sure to follow up with that review as well. The manager seems preoccupied with her admin duties each time i go in, and has provided me with courteous yes or no answers to my questions - but I would have preferred she offer me alternatives when the answers were no - ex: when i asked: do you carry witch hazel? She could have said, no - but let me show you our other astringents...clearly i was there to "buy". All of the sales pros are friendly and helpful, and I have found Itala to be the most knowledgeable one yet - I make a point to seek her out to ask her opinion on various products and she also makes great suggestions. Tanya Mckee has been doing my hair for over 10 years now. She recently moved to this location and I followed her all the way from Tampa, FL. She is phenomenal at what she does. My hair is very delicate, yet she is able to bleach it platinum with no problems! Lately, she has been dying it crazy colors and every time we are able to switch colors with an easy transition without over processing. Some times I come in with no idea what I want and she always comes up with something amazing! She always answers all my questions and is extremely knowledgable especially when it comes to color. She is super friendly and very welcoming. I have brought many friends to her over the years, and she makes them all feel comfortable immediately. I would HIGHLY recommend her! Visiting from California and I desperately needed a touch up on my highlights. Called Ulta at last minute and Ron scheduled me for the next day at the time I requested. I could tell Ron knew what he was doing from the minute I sat down. He listened and repeated back to me my highlighting requests. I have to say he is probably the best stylist I've ever had, and I have been getting my hair highlighted for over 30 years. I am so happy with the results. I wish I could return to Ocala every couple of months just to have Ron as my stylist! He is that good. Aside from that fact, he loves what he does and it truly shows. I had previously written a great review of Ulta, particularly the salon, as I had been going there for over a year, however in the past few months service quality has hit rock bottom. Yesterday I went in for an appointment I had scheduled a month ago. An hour later I was still not acknowledged by the stylist that I always work with, not seated and being ignored completely. Finally after another stylist felt bad and took me for my routine cut, she did not listen to a word I said and cut far too much off of the hair I told her several times that I was growing out. Now I'm set back 6 months of re-growing out my hair to get to where I was yesterday because she was unable to listen to my simple instruction of "Please, just trim the back." I will say the store manager Melissa is the sole redeeming quality. However $10 off my horrible experience was not worth all that I was put through, and the next 6 months I am going to have to spend dealing with the terrible cut I received yesterday. It took a lot of strength to just not break down while still in the store because of how rudely I was treated. read more

They really have fixed any problems they had with displays and stuff since the first opened and obviously are under superior management. They even seem to have more samples on hand to give away with purchases too (a problem initially when they first opened). I shop here about once a month to get new stuff and try it out in the store. I've been to this salon regularly for quite some time and it's honestly not good.The first time I got it dyed they dyed it a completely wrong color.i requested a red and they gave me an orangey color.it lasted only a couple of days before it faded.I also visited to dye my hair dark brown and they gave me red highlights.most of the time they do what they want instead of what you ask for.also every time I go in to get my hair dyed they get dye all over my face and it didn't come off.the most recent time I went I asked to cut my split ends and maybe a inch of hair they gave me a bob.overall I do not recommend this salon.the are butchers. read more
