I recently went in to exchanger an unopened Dior lip gloss for another shade. I also needed to make a return with a receipt. With a receipt I was unable to make a return unless I provided a valid government ID in person. The staff, specifically the "District Manager" I spoke with was so rude and disrespectful. I was shocked. I think her name was Tricia however I cannot be sure. I asked her name and she told me if I wanted to know it I could read it on her name tag. Her name tag was on upside down so I could not read it. I think you should be able to do a rerun with a receipt and not need to produce a government ID. I did have an electronic version but that was not acceptable. She read the rules to me on the wall and the rules said that I needed an ID if proof of purchase could not be verified. Overall a reticle experience. I would recommend you walk next door to the Sephora located inside Kohl's. A much better customer service experience. read more

Do not come to this store for pickup. I did a curbside pick up because I had my son sleeping in the car. It is unbelievable that they never came out after more than 30 minutes waiting. I tried calling the store about 5 times and no one picked up. I then went inside and asked where my order was and the manager Lauren said I needed to wait and that no one got my order number. Unbelievable how Ulta can have such an irresponsible manager. The fact that after going inside they still took their sweet time. This makes me want to stick to Sephora. I've tried out the salon in this Ulta twice now. The first time was great, no issues. The second time was fabulous! I made a hair cut appointment via the "whoever is available" feature and was matched up with Lorna. Now I will seek Lorna out specifically. She was so nice and friendly and checked in with me every step of the way in my hair cut. She took her time blowing it out and I haven't seen my hair look so good in years! Ok, I'm a straight male who doesn't wear make-up of any kind - so why I am reviewing this place at all? Because I was there. I've been to all sorts of cosmetics locations - basically "dragged" by my fiance, but I've been in enough places to sort of get the gist of what is what. Inside it's rather big. It's clean and organized. From the prices I saw, things were reasonable and they did have a lot of brands - both that I know of and some that I never noticed before. My fiance works in cosmetics, so by default I know probably more than I should admit. This place had a good selection. They did have a hair salon in the back, but obviously I have no intentions of getting cut here. We were asked if we needed help by an employee and the cashier was friendly, so no complaints about the staff in that regard. For a store of this size, I did expect to find more than 3 employees total (not counting the hairdresser in the back), but I don't know what kind of customer traffic this place gets to really comment on that. As one reviewer did point out, they do stock more than a Sephora does from what I know - so if there is a brand that Sephora doesn't carry, chances are they do carry that here. Located in a decent sized shopping center with plenty of parking. Just watch out while driving around here, because I've been to this lot since 1993 and one thing that hasn't changed is the fact that a lot of drivers can't drive or navigate the lot (that's almost everywhere these days). Not anyone's fault but the idiot drivers and the parking lot developer, but hey......worth mentioning. So bottom line, a good place to find cosmetics, accessories (hair, skin, cosmetics), and reasonably priced. read more

I enjoy going to this Ulta. The employees ask if I need help which is nice in case I ever wanted something new. I never knew there was a salon in Ulta and just found that out a few months ago! I highly recommend going. I got balayage and a cut and the hairdresser did a great job. I got many compliments. I appreciated that she took the tome to explain colors and tones with me. I never thought of ulta to be as amazing of a store as it is. It literally has anything you need. Since corona virus is stopped using heat stylers, I get regular trimmings, stopped wearing messy buns but still I found dull hair. I should mention I never died my hair before. The hair stylists suggested redkin leave in conditioner and I can already see shine noticeably on my hair. They also recommended other shampoos and conditioners and I haven't tried them yet. I do love their competition Sephora but I haven't been to a mall as a precaution to coronavirus and this is a great location if you want to avoid high pedestrian traffic read more

I was shopping over the weekend and left my wallet at the store. I called and spoke to the manager Christina and she made a note with my name. At the very end of the day ...must have been close to 8 pm Chrissy and Christina stayed late and found my number and realized that someone had found a wallet in the store. They reached out to me several times until they got in touch ..they opened my wallet to make sure it was mine underneath cameras to show their honesty and good intentions. They locked my wallet away for the evening and kept it safe and full of its original contents for the night. When I went the following day and offered Chrissy and Christina a reward they would not accept it so I felt the least I could do is to let everyone know how professionally they handled this situation. With the utmost honesty and integrity. This is the kind of service that creates brand loyalty. Thank you to Chrissy and Christina and to Ulta for hiring these amazing women. As they say, you get what you pay for, and this was definitely one of those instances. The cut was cheap, but the Ulta Salon in Port Chester has no business cutting men's hair. My hair is pretty easy and short, but the stylist managed to butcher it all the same. To begin with, she was full of attitude from the start. She asked me how I wanted it done, and I gave her the same instructions I always give a stylist - "I wear it short and spikey, but just kind of messy." Sure, I've had bad haircuts before, but these instructions have never been so hard to follow. When she began to cut it like a ski-jump, I informed her that this wasn't what I wanted, and rather than take clippers and cut the top as I'd mentioned, she let out a loud sigh and decided to take the razor and cut the top as if I'd asked her to buzz it. My hair is not "buzz-cut" short, and I've never had a stylist at a (presumably) respectable place be so lazy about how they cut my hair. Then, to make matters worse, she took a blade to the hair around my forehead and nape - this special extra service was not asked for. In the process, not only did she chop off my widow's peak (which I kind of like having), but she actually cut my skin in a few places. We're not talking nicks, but actual sizeable cuts all along my foreward and in the back along the nape - five or six BIG cuts. When I got to the gym later, my skin actually burned from where she'd cut me. All in all, regardless of the price, I will never, ever return to Ulta for a haircut, and unless you want both a bad haircut and actual cuts on your skin from a stylist that knows jack about cutting men's hair, you'd be wise to avoid it as well. read more

This review is solely for the brow bar, the store itself is awesome. The brow bar is totally unprofessional. I walked out of here looking like a 5 yr old had waxed my brows. there are spots and chunks missing of my eyebrows. the brow person could not even make a straight line and my brows are now crooked. I had full brows when i arrived here, just wanted to shape them up which i expressed several times. she decided to turn give me that pencil thin, 90'd porn star look , on top of removing chunks of my brows. i can only hope they grow back. And yet theres more. there are raw pieces of flesh missing from several spots around my eyes, that if Im lucky, will scab up. thats how raw & red they are. I have been waxed hundreds of times and never had this experience so not sure why this happened. the more i think of it, i actually will just stick with sephora now and do not even want to shop at this store anymore after this. I made an appointment at the Ulta Salon with Tiffaney on a Tuesday evening at 5:30. I explained to her that I was looking for a natural looking partial highlight with very thin lights. Tiffaney did a beautiful job and was so friendly and considerate throughout the appointment. I have not had anyone else other than my stylist in Texas touch my hair in the last six years. I'm so glad I found Tiffaney! I will definitely be back soon, as she is someone to trust if you're picky about your hair! In total, the partial highlight cost $125 (no cut, but with style). I love makeup and I want to love ulta but everyone who works here is completely miserable/ rude. There's never any tissues/ swaps or q tips to be found, never any wipes, and when you ask, you get a dirty look or sent all over the store to other surly employees. Please please please do some customer training in here, some incentive programs, some circle of trust something to make these people tolerable. I want to buy make up and feel good, but with all the nasty ness in this store-- sheesh! In the battle of beauty department stores, who will beat the rest--Sephora, or ULTA? My money's on Sephora. I like ULTA, but they don't stock a lot of things that I get from Sephora. Yes, I'm that sucker who gets $20 chapstick. It's cruelty free chapstick, I don't have to use as much, and it ends up lasting me anywhere from 6 to 9 months. For 20 bucks? Hell yeah! Also, it's the only one I've found where I don't have to slather the stuff on my lips to keep them from getting chapped. ULTA doesn't stock it. They also, from what I can tell (though I may be blind) don't stock Bumble & Bumble products. I like the points system at Sephora too. Not really sure about the points system at ULTA. I glanced through their magazine booklet thing and it didn't sound as exciting. Nitpicky? Ohhhh yes. The store is much closer. They have a wide array of blowdryers, straighteners, and products that you'd never see at Sephora. The staff here are also much nicer and always happy to help. And they also have a much larger area for makeovers. Want your hair and makeup done? Go on and get it done already, girl! Only place that stocks Big Sexy Hair products. After receiving the humidity-proof hairspray in an Ipsy glam bag, I am definitely thankful this place is nearby. This stuff is heavy-duty. While B&B hairspray is great for my bangs on a regular day, the Big Sexy Hair hairspray is my go-to when there is even the slightest bit of humidity that threatens to turn my bangs into some sort of deformed frizzy bang-fro. While I'm happy to have an Ulta Beauty in New York, the Port Chester location is underwhelming. I've visited the store at least 3 times, and although it's never busy, it's difficult to find sales help. I would consider this an annoyance, as opposed deal breaker, except for the fact that the displays are always a mess, which makes it hard to go it alone. The cosmetic testers are continually either significantly out of order or missing. In the off chance that you do sample something that you like, you can't find the corresponding unused product to purchase. On my last visit I came to exchange a foundation that I'd purchased in the wrong color. I politely waited for the clerk to ring up the woman ahead of me before handing in my receipt. I was asked to leave the receipt and product off the counter while I fetched the replacement. I then spent about 10 minutes looking around the display and digging through the drawers to find the right color as there was no sales person in sight. I returned to the counter where a different clerk was leisurely ringing up another customer, while debating the merits of various products. After at least 5 minutes, it was my turn. I advised the clerk that I was doing an exchange and gave the receipt and product to a different clerk who seemed to have disappeared. The clerk had no idea what I was talking about, and advised that I would have to wait for the other clerk to return, which thankfully was only another be minutes. I then tried to remain calm as the first clerk fumbled around for 5 minutes processing the return. I resolved to make my next Ulta purchases online. I like Ulta for the simple fact that they offer a broad selection of cosmetics and hairstyling products at a range of price points. The closest competitors would be Sephora, which lacks hair products and Ricky's which has more hair than makeup. Although buying online is convenient, there is a benefit to trying items out beforehand. Thankfully, it seems that Ulta Beauty is about to open stores at Cross County Mall in Yonkers, as well as 86th and 3rd in Manhattan. read more

I'm only giving one star because there's no option for zero stars. I made a hair appointment-typical wash, cut & blow dry-at the Salon. Based on the price list, I expected a charge of $37. After making the appointment, I inquired about the cost for a clipper cut for my mom. I was quoted $47. I hung up before it hit me that a clipper cut would cost that much, so I called back and asked how much my cut would cost. $57 I was told. I immediately cancelled the appointment. A few days later, while shopping in the store, I went to the salon to ask why I was quoted $20 more than the price list. I was told that the price was based on experience of the stylist you are assigned. Basically, this salon has ONE stylist at the listed price and everyone else costs more-and it's not disclosed at the time you make the appointment. I declined to make another appointment when asked (the girl was quite annoyed that I questioned the pricing structure and made it very obvious that I was wasting her time). I finished shopping and went to pay. The cashier rang me up, bagged my purchase and walked away, leaving be to have to reach across the counter to grab my bag. But it doesn't end there! I sent an email to Ulta about my experiences and received a reply that my email had been forwarded to management who should get back to me within 7 days. Guess who never heard back. In this area, we have more than enough retail outlets for cosmetics and such. I don't need to frequent an establishment that doesn't appreciates its customers and who's management obviously doesn't care how the clientele are treated. The ick factor is how i feel about this location. I have been to this store numerous times and i have had the same dismal experience. I have been ignored and brushed off. I have made purchases only to find after I left that was entitled to a free gift. Yesterday was the last straw for me. I went in had to hunt down someone to find a product that was misplaced. I was rung up by the manager who did not even realise the main promotion that is in the front of the store and needed me to prompt her after she finished ringing. As I walked out I realised why am I giving a store my money when the ignore me and treats my purchases as inconsequential. I returned my purchases and find another location. Maybe if they lose more sales they will learn about customer service and how to make a customer feel appreciated. read more

I'm a regular Sephora customer, but I was in the area and friend told me how much she likes Ulta. I like the idea that they have a range of cosmetic lines--low end to high end (drug store to dept store.) But, I generally only use the more expensive stuff and I found the selection lacking. My favorite thing about Sephora are the samples. So I was really disappointed that Ulta does not offer samples of anything. There's no way I would buy a foundation or moisturizer without trying it out for 2-3 days first. (The return policy seems pretty good, so there's that option.) I was surprised that at least two display fixtures were placed in terrible spots--so you had to sidestep past them and hope you didn't knock anything over. The salon in the back looked like a bus station--tons of people waiting around. Very few staff on the floor. I never thought of it before, but I like that when you walk into a Sephora or MAC store the employees look like they are really into make up and they know a lot. Even if they have an outlandish/costumed look, I trust them to know something about the products. I didn't get this sense from the Ulta staff. I might wander into another Ulta location to check it out, but my expectations aren't very high based on this store. read more

Staff is EXTREMELY rude. I've been here once before today (~January 2018) to make a purchase with my mom and sister...which they put under the WRONG ACCOUNT (possible since I was hacked in November 2017 and had a ton of points stolen and Customer Service created me a new account but didn't properly delete my old one so the terrible employee checking me out put it under the hacked account and the person I assumed to be the manager at the time was rude and unhelpful about it then since I checked my receipt and zero points showed up - because the hacked one was supposed to be deleted- so I returned to the store to confront them about it) so my account's all screwy and I may lose platinum status because of this (spent a good $175 on that purchase, was able to reclaim my points earned after calling Customer Service and explaining the issue, but the spent value didn't get transferred over and I need to spend a little over $200 to make platinum and there's some time since it's only August, but I should only be maybe $50 off platinum right now, but since they messed up, I'm not - pretty much actually have to spend MORE than a normal person to retain platinum status because of their screw up, actually, and that's not fair). But, final straw in ever returning to this location was today when I tried to return a lipstick I'd purchased at another Westchester-area Ulta with mostly points in a decently large transaction. For some reason, they wouldn't take it back (it was a computer issue from what I could tell, but they really should've tried harder to resolve it - basically just tried scanning my receipt and the item again and gave up) and even accused me of having already returned it and that's why the computer was being weird, which I took insane offense to. Why would that be one of the first things out of your mouth as to why I can't seem to return it (w/ receipt within return period, yes, it was used once, but I know they take back slightly used products and I double checked the return period was still 60 days and not 30 since it would've been outside 30 days but was not outside 60)? I had literally one of that shade of lipstick ever (purchased multiple other shades of the same brand/type of lipstick) and the last time I went to an Ulta (or even a Sephora, since they'd sell it) was the day I purchased that lipstick I had the receipt for and I haven't made an online purchase of anything like it in the past month. The woman I assume to be the manager (since the first girl called her over to help) actually said, "oh, you don't get points back if you return something you paid for with points" and I did pay with mostly points. THIS IS A FLAT-OUT LIE. I have literally returned at least one item I purchased (actually 100%) with points and gotten the points back in my account (in Fairfax, VA in December 2017, but it was another Ulta, and I do not think the policies would be different in different Ulta's within a year of each other.) Both the cashier and assumed manager were rude and unhelpful about my return (and ironically, right in front of the register I was helped at, there was a sign that said 'Happy returns' and my return was not happy or even completed). I snatched back my product and receipt since they were extremely unhelpful about helping me return the product. Yes, I get it, no one who works retail really wants to take a return, especially if they can't resell it, but since I had a similarly poor experience making a purchase, I blame the employees of this specific store as the problem (oh, and none of them were wearing name tags, so I have no idea what any of their names were). Will be taking ALL of my Ulta business to the Cross County Center Ulta, possibly even just taking all my beauty needs to Sephora and UrbanDecay.com (for the products that are Ulta exclusive even though I hate online shopping).
