I called and got tinsel put in my hair a week ago and called to see if they could take it out and she said yes and then as I was mid conversation hung up on me. then I went there and no one even greeted me when I was at the counter waiting the lady finally came over to me and asked me what I needed and I told her I spoke to someone on the phone and they said she would be able to take my tinsel out and she looked and me and said no I have a client coming then sat down in a chair for 15 minutes talking to her coworker when mind you it probably would of taken 5 minutes to take a couple strands of tinsel out my hair. they are rude there!! disrespectful! read more

About a month ago I booked appointments for myself and 2 daughters. We were booked with 3 different stylists for the same time. 2 of us were doing hair & makeup and 1 just hair. When we arrived for our appointments we were told 1 of the stylists who were supposed to do 1 persons hair & makeup had to leave for a family emergency. Jess accommodated the situation and did both of my daughter's hair and they were very happy. I had Nichelle. She began my makeup application and right away I was apprehensive. She did not prep my face in any way. Usually some toner is used, moisturizer and primer. Nothing. It was really not the level I was expecting for the price that was charged. $70 for a makeup application, $10 to apply lash strips, plus I had to pay $5 to purchase the actual strips. The lashes were not applied nicely. One strip ripped as she was taking it out of the packaging and she didn't bother to mention it to me, I only noticed it once I took a close look in the mirror and couldn't understand why my eye lashes looked uneven- a piece of the lashes was still in the packaging! I was really really unhappy with the makeup application it felt very unprofessional. I was embarrassed to say anything because I knew she was doing my hair next. Well, we got to the chair for my hair and there were a lot of comments made to me and in front of me that another customer was waiting very impatiently for Nichelle. Basically I felt very rushed, I felt the stylist very super rushed. It took her maybe 10-15 minutes to do my hair- I requested waves and I got curls, even when I brushed it out later it was curls. She didn't even take the 2 seconds to make a clean middle part on my hair! Really an all around upsetting experience especially when factoring in I paid close to $300 with tips for the services. When I got home I had to touch up my makeup for about 25 minutes to make it look normal. On a bright note- Deb did my teenagers makeup and she was so professional, sweet and experienced. read more

The staff is very helpful. I asked about the salon area and was given a sheet for the rates so you ladies can compare if you're getting your hair done elsewhere. There's all kinds of cosmetics. I can't begin to go into that area. There are waxing services, facials, lashes, and eyebrow mechanics. It seems like they have quality items here, but read the ladies' reviews to get better insight. I will never shop at this store again in WLB. There were 3 employees in the front of the store chatting away about their relationships. All very young and one with a disturbing appearance. They did not ask if I needed help. I finally asked if the carried Lancome. I was looking for foundation. The response was that they only carry mascara and Absolue products. I had to ask where they were and I was hastily blown off with a pointed finger in some unspecified direction. The product that I found in a clearance section had no price. There were several of them. I asked for the price of this clearance item. $32.50 was the response. These ladies wanted to continue their socializing, not to work. read more

I had never heard of an Ulta until I ventured in to have a horrible home dye fixed. My 1st appointment was with Elaine, the salon manager. Elaine is very sweet and knowledgeable. She did a great job getting my hair back to its natural color, cutting and putting some kind of repair treatment on it. I used Elaine several times. I am still going to Ulta one year later for single process and cuts. The last couple of times I've gone to Jennifer and I really like the cut and color I get from her. Jennifer is very sweet and makes me feel right at home. Elaine is always there and greets me by name, which I find impressive that she remembers. I feel bad I don't use her anymore but being the manager her rates are way higher and I'm a frugal person and can't justify spending a fortune on my skimpy very fine hair. I'm a wash and go person. There are days I don't even comb it. I just need an end trim and gray coverage every 8 weeks. I know it should be sooner but like I said. Frugal. It's an impressive operation and somehow it just makes you happy being in the store. I don't buy much. I'm sure I have some makeup in my drawer left over from 1988. I like the convenience of online appointments and when you complete your appointment they hand you an invoice that you bring to the front end to checkout . No awkward paying and tipping your stylist on the spot. Or putting cash in a tiny Manila envelope and scrawling their name on it and yours so they know where it came from. So awkward. You can just add it to the bill at the front end. My one suggestion would be to have your sales and service history available for review in our accounts online. When I'm booking online I never know what color treatment to choose; Redkin, Chromatics or whatever the choices are. I'm tracking Ulta stock that's how impressive I think this corporation is. What a wonderful Ulta. Not all Ulta stores are alike. This one is overwhelming is one of my favorites and the reason can be simply because they have awesome people working there. One particular person is a lady name Dominique. She always remembers who you are and what products you like. Whenever she sees me, she recommends me awesome products. Some are missed but most are right on the money regarding my skin, I have dry skin, to excellent pallets. She doesn't always steer me to high end either. She introduced me to a brand of eye primer that has beaten many of the high end products, have down. Wherever I need to go to Ulta, I always look forward to that store. It's closest to my job location on Wednesdays. Otherwise I go to Holmdel or the one in Marlboro. They're really great too. All sites have bonus points that helps you collect points and you can redeem it for x amount off your future purchases. This store has the best of both worlds: high end and drug store brands. They have a great return policy. Minus one star because the store (all of them) do not give any samples out so it's sometimes hard to tell with foundations. I like to get a sample and test it out for a few days in order to see if it will affect my dry sensitive skin. Can't wait to go back! read more

I was looking for a new hair stylist and I read the Nichelle is rated an Elite stylist. Well, I'm not sure who gave her that title, but she is far from Elite!! She truly gives a bad haircut ! I asked for shaping with a clean cut and to take the weight out, since my hair is thick . She doesn't section your hair when she's cutting. She just grabs your hair and starts snipping away , without it being a clean cut. She made my whole head wispy, which is the exact opposite of what I asked for . When I asked her to take the weight off, she continued to cut my end's wispy and made my hair shorter. Then she says, "I think this will work ". I told her I don't like what your doing , especially since you're not listening to me . I can't even get a ponytail now. I have all kinds of layers now, with different lengths all around . Nothing matches! She is not good at blowing your hair either .My hair looked better before I walked in that salon. Now I have to go get another cut, just to make it look decent. I called to speak to the salon manager and she wasn't in,but I spoke with a store manager named Ashley . Ashley told me she would have the salon manager call me the next day. Well my phone never rang ! No phone call whatsoever. I should of know better to let Nichelle cut my hair, by the looks of her hair . One would think the beautician would have a nice haircut and know how to give that head massage during the shampoo process. Stay far away from this place!! read more

Just thought I'd say thank you to Riley and Christina for helping me tonight. Went in for a lipliner and lip primer that I've been looking for that have been difficult to find. Neither were on the shelf, but Riley went in the back to check for both. She found the primer, and Christina was kind enough to order me the lipliner at checkout. Did I mention that it was 7pm, they were closing and didn't even blink an eye to help me? Great customer service, as I didn't realize their store hours until I was actually leaving. I decided to get my hair cut and colored on a whim one day and made an appointment for a couple of days later. Realizing I'd be rushing, I called up the day before and switched my appointment for an earlier time. Alyssa, who happened to answer the phone, happily changed my appointment and booked me with her. God was I lucky! She completely changed my look for the better! My hair was down to my waist and hadn't been cut in a year and never colored. She gave my hair new life and the balayage looks amazing. I just got my haircut done by Alyssa. I showed her a modern cut and she gave me a mushroom bob. I have not cried so much over a haircut in my life. She wasn't very conscientious or attentive and kind of flippantly went at my hair with a razor after all I had asked for was a layer. I am not a girlie girl. I don't do makeup and hair products and perfume. I hate going to any salon because I immediately feel judged about not being a girlie girl. That being said, this was the best salon experience I have ever had. My hairstylist Mia was incredibly sweet, her suggestions for products that worked with my personality and lifestyle were spot on, and I got the best haircut of my life! Nasty rude impatient at the register. Two cashier girls (because thats what they were, little girls-immature misbehaved children) with no one behind me, having a conversation about why is it taking me so long to look up my coupons. Not even trying to hide the fact that they were talking about me. Heard every word "what is she even looking for there are no coupons. You can pay now-its $52" Pulled up my free gift and before I could even show her "we dont have that". Not the first time with attitude at the register at this store or really any ulta for that matter. So happy that ULTA came to WLB. While shopping for hair products, Michelle from the salon came over and made some great suggestions and told me about the first time customer discount for a Redken color application. I needed a root touch up pretty badly but was hesitant to stray from my regular high end Salon. I scheduled an appointment anyway and am so glad I did! Michelle did a great job and I spent 1/3 of what I normally would have for a cut and color. My hair looked amazing and Michelle was awesome. She listened to what I wanted out of my haircut and mixed the perfect color to hide my stubborn greys. Def going back :) read more

I had never been to an ulta store until they opened in West Long Branch. I was so excited about all the different brands they carried. I was surprised when a salesperson came over and started to talk about my hair and color and it all could be done here. A go-getter Robyn was and the next thing I know we set an appointment to color my hair. What a great job she did on the color and cut. Was super happy. Next appointment the salon called to let me know Robyn was no longer at this location and that Alyssa would be my stylist. OK I'm up for it. What a nice young lady. Personable,knowledgeable and listens most important. Yeay we got along perfectly decided to be conservative on our first appointment and wow another great job. Now to the point of all. Yesterday I had my 2nd appointment with Alyssa and another awesome job. We decided to go a little wild with color and I don't regret it. By far she is one of the best colorists I've been to she knows her colors real well. I can highly without reservation recommend Alyssa. Pricing is no different than a regular salon. Worth it. The other stylists are very pleasant and help each other out in a pinch I saw that in action yesterday. read more

Was pleased to find a Great Hairstylist for a blowout at Ulta in West Long Branch, Jazmine. Highly recommend her! She went out of her way to accommodate my last minute schedule for a blowout for a wedding and was willing to come in early before her regular hours. I have layered hair that doesn't hold up well and requested a pin curl blowout for full volume. She took the time to listen and knew exactly the look I was looking for. Paid attention to detail with great extra products for hold and added on curling iron to seal the look. Hair looked great and lasted all day/night. Unfortunately, I had an awful experience at Ulta yesterday. I made an appointment to have my make up done for a wedding. I never get my make up done other than for events. I hardly ever wear make up and don't really own any to do it myself so I was pretty excited. When I met the woman who would be doing my make up she seemed nice. The only problem is that she kept asking me questions that I didn't know the answers to because I'm not familiar with make up and how to apply it. I was hoping to have someone who is an expert. I thought OK, maybe she's just asking me in case I have a preference so several times throughout the appointment I told her that I would appreciate if she just took charge and made me look pretty. I finally gave her a Pinterest picture for some inspiration. An hour into the appointment she only applied foundation and had done one of my eyes which looked awful. She kept blaming my skin and eyebrows. Over and over she would tell me how dry my skin was and how badly I needed a facial and how whoever did my eyebrows didn't do a good job. It almost seemed like she was making excuses as to why she couldn't do my make up. As the clock kept ticking I was panicking because I needed to get ready for this wedding. Someone who happened to be in the store who works for Anastasia make up overheard our conversation and came to the rescue and had my full face of make up done within 10 minutes. I'm so thankful she was there. When I went to pay, it was much more expensive than what I was quoted and they told me that it was because I had to pay for the eyelashes and to have them applied which is two separate additional charges. I specifically asked that when I booked the appointment so someone made a mistake. I would never get my make up done here again. You can get your make up done professionally at Mac, keep the products, and have an expert who doesn't insult you for $50.00. read more

Jasmine did a GREAT job with my blowout!! I wanted it blown-out with thermal styling for a special occasion, and she was incredibly meticulous and skilled, and did an awesome job with my hair. I love, love, LOVE Ulta! It's like a second home for me! I've never been to one until the one in West Long Branch opened up. All the different varieties they have and the friendly workers make you feel comfortable whether you love makeup or you need some advice. The only reason why I gave this store a three star was an incident that happened while getting my hair done in there salon. My hair was a totally different color from my natural hair, which is a dark brown (almost black). Well I had an appointment and after my hair was done IT WAS RED! I thought maybe the color would fade but the more I washed it the more red my hair would get! About two days after Ulta told me they can't do anything about it that the girl messed up my hair and they can give me a consultation on what to do next. Never went back for my hair to be done ever again. read more

I normally never give reviews let alone bad ones but this last trip really upset me. I called up to schedule an appointment for a wash and blowout on a Saturday and told the receptionist specifically that I have long wavy/curly hair and I need someone who knows how to work it. She assured me that Carmela was the one me as she " had owned her own salon." On arrival at 11am I was greeted promptly and walked back to Carmela and explained that I wanted a bouncy/ wavy blow out and that I needed it done properly because I had a party. She assured me I was in good hands. I got my hair washed but had to wait for a sink to open up. It is now 11:25 and Carmela's station was not working so I had to move my chair. The minute the blow out began I knew I was in trouble. She did not even section my hair and was just aimlessly blowing over the same section over and over. I've had curly hair all of my life and know what a good blow out should be. Needless to say by 12:30 when she wanted to put a curling iron to make my flat damp hair bouncy as I had asked for via blow wave not iron I was upset. I had explained the way I wanted it blown out about five times at this point. I left at 12:45 which made me an hour late to my party due to the fact that o had to go home and go over my own hair. My whole family was stressed and upset over my lateness. You need to send your stylist for a beginners course in blowing out different hair types!!!! read more
