Have you ever felt like you just needed....something? I haven't been wearing much makeup because what's the point with a face mask? And yet, when I would get out my war paint, it was just so...Ugh. A jillion bottles of partially used foundation because they weren't quite right. Too drying, too oily, too dark, too light, to harsh for my skin, too heavy, too pink, too cake-y.. the list goes on but you get the picture. If at any point reading this you said, "Yes, that's me!", you need to head to Ulta. This is a full service beauty store, meaning they know what they have, they listen, they figure out what you need and they let you try it before buying. I went in with my sister with the understanding that she would be my muscle. I did not want to walk out of there with some $80 crazy priced product and certainly not something that required multiple steps and layering of products. So there we stood, surrounded by different brands, all touting different benefits and all in hundreds of shades. I was overwhelmed to say the least. Enter Antonio. He asked if we were ok and I blurted out NO! My refined sister calmly said we needed guidance on foundation. He was so nice. He looked at my skin, asked me some questions, including what kind of coverage I wanted. I said medium to light coverage because I didn't want to look like I was trying to be a 20 year old using face filters on Instagram. He chose a brand and two different shades. He sanitized his hands, got clean make up sponges and tried the first shade on the right side of my face. He said, "Hmmm, a little too pink" then he used the other shade on the left side of my face. Much better! I ended up with Bare Minerals in Medium Beige. It looks dark in the bottle but it's not. Trying it on is SO beneficial. Also, it has a twist up lid so there's no bumbling around with a loose lid AND the bottom raises as you use it, so there will be no unused product! He offered to fix the right side of my face but I just put my mask back on. I was so grateful for his expertise and he said that if I didn't like it after using it a few times, I could just bring it back with my receipt for an exchange. You read that right - Ulta will exchange makeup! I have worn it and I still like it. It didn't aggravate my rosacea and it didn't settle into my laugh lines. Another bonus? I have a lot more space because I trashed those jillions of bottles! What a win! read more

Hanes mall location needs better employees. They always have bad attitudes. I try to make a return after a few days and its like they're mad you're returning? Employees aren't trained well either. Cashier said no returns after 30 days, had to leave and go to another location, when ulta states return policy is 60 days. Management also SUCKS. I hate this location. read more

Bad attitudes. Simply coming in for a pickup. Came in straight and one person at the register and two cashiers. One helping one doing something else. But even then the one assisting ONE person decided me standing there with one other customer who came right behind me mustve been such an issue that she stared me down multiple times and snarkly goes "you can go around where the line starts". While assisting someone, mind you. I understand retail can be frustrating, I did it for YEARS, but at least ASK if u must and dont be a bitch. This is a review of not only the store, but also one particular brand. I like Ulta. I haven't gone into Ulta since Covid started. I have ordered online multiple times. Before when I had gone in, everyone was very helpful, without being pushy. They gave me honest feedback on products and recommended things that would be similar that I might like better. I found The Ordinary products online from a "news" source. Mind you, it was an opinion article. I have since bought so many of their products because I have been so pleased with them. I am in my late 30's (eek! 2 years from 40) and I have dark spots and fine lines and uneven skin texture and tone. My face is in need of some brightening over all. These products, I have been using for a little over a month, and I am so pleased that I rarely even wear makeup anymore. I don't wear foundation anyway, but I do wear concealer and powder and mascara. I love how great my face is doing with these products in my daily regimen. And they are cheaper than what I was using! I also have found Nars tinted glow booster at Ulta. I use this on the balls of my cheeks when I wear makeup. Makes my face look less "flat" than it would if I just had powder on. read more

I am a big fan of Ulta! I like that they have the high end makeup and hair products as well as the drugstore brands. You can mix and match and not completely spend all your money. The sales associates are usually pretty helpful and are happy to show what a few of the products would look like on you or make suggestions on what you should buy. Join their free rewards program to get coupons in the mail as well as a free gift on your birthday. This year it was a full sized CK mascara. I also like that they have the benefits brow bar here. I would recommend calling the store part (they are not affiliated with the salon) to make an appointment or make sure the Benefit rep is there. It isn't cheap at $20 but they put way more time and care into shaping your eyebrows than most places do. read more

I was looking for a specific product (Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion) the last two times I went in and both times they've been out of stock, however I'm giving them five stars because of how it was handled by the associates both times. The first time they were super busy, but the associate walked me to the location, checked the back stock then helped me find the travel size at the front as a substitute. The second time when I asked the cashier, she asked for someone to check, they got out of the floor where they were working without complaint and went all the way across the store to check the back stock for me. I know they can't control the product availability, but I couldn't have asked for more in both their willingness to assist, and the friendly attitude while they did it. read more

Customer service needs a boost. One cashier, Havy, was holding down the fort. Sometimes she was using 2 registers while waiting for someone in management to come to the front to help with an issue. Eight people in line and the manager walks away after resolving the issue. Havy gets 5 stars and needs a raise! read more

I was pretty shocked when the lady who was helping my aunt and I, walked off in the middle of a question we had, to go stand and chat with another co worker across the store and did not return. She also seemed annoyed and not interested in the questions we had about different make up products. Sorry for wasting your time with my make up questions?! lol! If you're ugly and don't usually wear make up like myself, probably best not to come here. Just go to the drug store, grab some stuff, figure it out yourself, and call it a day. read more

I went in for one specific thing: Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation in shade 2.0. I noticed that shade was the ONLY one that was empty on the shelf. A worker asked if she could help and I told her what I needed. She goes, "Well. All we have is out. If it's not there, we don't have any." (Then proceeds to try to get me to buy an even MORE expensive foundation. (Frankly, $39 is beyond my budget as-is... But I love this foundation.) so she pages another employee to help me pick out a shade in this other makeup. But when I told her what I usually use, she says, "Well, let me check in the back and see if we have any more." (Why, thank you.... That's more than the first girl did for me.) Lo and Behild, worker #2 emerges from the back with an Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation in shade 2.0. So yes, I got what I needed BUT slightly annoyed that the first girl didn't go to the back to just check- just amuse me and pretend to check and come back empty haded, at least it would have appeared like you cared. Maybe next time I'll go to Sephora instead. read more

I am such a huge fan of Ulta! Every time I go, the staff is always willing to help direct me to great products that I am looking for. I also like that I went to find a new brow pencil and instead of just pointing me to the most expensive product, the associate took the time to not only recommend a couple, but also applied them on me to show me how to use them and most importantly how they would look on me before I purchased them! When you first walk in, it may seem overwhelming, but I love browsing the aisles to see new things and find products to try. This is also a weakness for me because I always leave with something! I do also like they have a salon to offer various services and not just a retail store. I loved how they promoted many ways to support breast cancer this month (October). There were many displays of various items and also they had new makeup products such as new Bare Minerals and Anastasia brow products! On 10/10 they're having free brow waxing so call ahead to check it out! read more

Horrible customer service. Manager took two weeks to respond to complaint and every time I call back she is not available or just left. Customer service just wants to keep emailing salon. I will not return to Ulta. I showed photos of what I was looking for and the result I got is no where close. I tried ordering halo remy extensions to get the length I was wanting and I can't wear them due to the layers. WOW. Will not be back. I went to Ulta last Friday to get some last minute makeup for Halloween. I ended up getting a bunch of things for my costume and also got an ABH Glow Kit ($40). I went to check out and when the sales associate told me the total, it seemed high but I chalked it up to not having bought makeup in a long time. Today I went to return the Glow Kit because it hardly showed up on my skin. The sales associate asked if I was just returning one of the Glow Kits. I was confused and she showed me the receipt which stated that I had bought two. Nope. They charged me for two. I told her I only got one, and she called her manager immediately. The manager then basically interrogated me and then kept side eyeing me like I was a thief and a liar. She then announced loudly, where everyone in line heard, "I guess we'll check our security tapes and just see about that." It was so embarrassing. Then about 10-15 minutes later she just continued processing the return without a single word. I assume the tape showed me only purchasing one Glow Kit like I said. The manager did not even attempt to apologize for my inconvenience, for charging me $40 extra, or for treating me like a liar and a felonious dirt bag. She also did not respond to me when I was telling her I only bought one. She just kept talking into her little microphone and rolling her eyes at me. Literally the worst experience in retail that I've ever had. Why would I shop at Ulta when they provide such terrible service and have SO MANY competitors who will gladly take my money? Horrible customer service in this location and has been that way since it opened. Always lots of employees standing around talking to each and only one at the checkout point while the line is a mile long. Same bad experience every time I go in there. Employees just look at the 20 ppl in line and keep standing around and never go to assist. They do not seem to be able to give much advice on the products either if you have a question. Went into Ulta to find a specific product, upon entering the woman at the front said please do not touch the samples, that's fine it's was her important job.... But when I asked her if she could show me where I could find my product she said I cannot leave my spot, and continued to gossip with another employee, I then said well maybe she can help me and pointed at the other employee. The hostess or whatever she is just gave me a dirty look. Poor poor attitude and customer service! Her little hostess with the mostest did not impress me in the least, if she dosnt change her attitude she will be tossing fries at McDonald's. am so fed up of the beauty services in this town- and as much as I try to give it another chance I seem to never be able to find anything that works. Ulta has been a double disappointment. The only person who has any idea of what they're doing in the salon is the manager (Amanda) and she is really great, but what happens when you can't get an appointment with her? Well what happens is you end up with horrible hair. Today I decided to give it another shot and used their brow bar services.... and for 21$ it was a disappointment. I've been in several different Ulta stores and this one is always well stocked, both with great products, as well as friendly staff. I walked in yesterday looking for my foundation, as I was almost out of it, and they didn't have my shade in stock. As I was standing there, a young lady approached and asked if I needed any help. Unfortunately they did not have my foundation in, but I asked if there was any foundation that was comparable to the one I used, and she politely led me to another section. She pulled out a brush and offered to match me with the correct shade. She did a wonderful job and I like my new makeup even more because it has an SPF of 50 in it, which I desperately need. (I have very pale skin and red hair).... I will continue to shop here, as they are always kind and make me feel welcome. They have a wide array of products from makeup to hair products to nail polish and more. The parking lot can be aggravating, but that isn't their fault. read more

I would suggest that you only take cash in here and leave your debit cards at home because it can get dangerous in there. They carry several different brands of make-up, hair and skin care. There are ladies waiting to help you with anything you may need. There is also a salon in the back for hair and skin care as well as waxing. It can get pricey, so if you are on a budget, I would just ask first how much everything is. They also have a rewards program that I highly suggest signing up for! read more

I spend way too much money in here (I'm 200 dollars away from diamond status with ultamate rewards if that tells you anything lol) but the women that are in here are so sweet, & so helpful. They are more than happy to look in the back for a specific product, & they're great at shade matching. They've always gotten my shade spot on (can't say the same for Sephora. They made me look like I had green skin when I have a yellow undertone). They have everything well stocked, very clean store, & no one is pushy. I absolutely love Ulta! When they added the Winston-Salem location several years ago because it meant no longer have to drive to the Greensboro location. The employees are typically pretty friendly and it will help if you need it. They aren't pushy if you tell them you are just browsing. I love their fragrance section. They always have my favorite matte Bare Minerals foundation when Sephora is typically out of it. Last Christmas they had a great deal on their travel size hair care products, which was actually cheaper than the professionals only beauty supply store in the area, so I stocked up for gifts. Their sales area was pretty messy and nothing was organized last time I visited, as was the drugstore section. I was looking for a Nyx lip color but everything was so out of place I had no idea where to look. I payed with a paper gift card and cash on my last visit, that had been emailed to me so I had to print it out. There girl at the checkout seemed very perturbed by this as she rolled her eyes at me and said "I don't know if we accept paper gift cards." She paged her manager over who showed her where the barcode was located at on the paper. She proceeded to roll her eyes again once her manager had walked away. So I don't know if she was having a rough day but it wasn't exactly an ideal customer service experience. I got what I needed at least. read more

This store is amazing! They have a great selection and it is the only Ulta in the area with a MAC counter. All of the employees are so nice and have gone out of their way to help me. Sometimes the line is long on weekends but if you go during the week you can get great service and one-on-one attention, especially at the Clinique, MAC, and Lancôme counters. read more

I went into the store Friday to shop for a new skin care regimen. I had heard a lot about Mario Badescu products. So that's what I started looking at. I stopped an employee that was near the Lancôme counter and asked it she thought it was a good product or if she had something else in mind that she would recommend. She told me that it was good if i was looking for something in that price range, NO HELP AT ALL. Then I ran into Amy, the best thing that could have happened to me . She worked with my sister and I over an hour. She address all of my concerns and brought me products no matter the price and let me decide what I could or couldn't afford. Recently, on Nov. 25, had a terrible experience at a haircut appointment at Ulta on Hanes Mall Blvd in Winston-Salem, NC.. When I arrived the day of my appointment, a very young girl was presented to me. She didn't shampoo my hair first but instead started cutting my dry hair. She didn't shampoo my hair but instead started cutting my hair. After one hour, she said she was finished. The hair on the back of my head is so short I can't curl it with my SMALL BARREL curling iron. Strangely, the hair on the top of my head was not cut at all, it was still long, but it was sticky from some GOO she had put on it after which she had loosely rolled small sections of it into big high flat curls ,standing up, on the top of my head and each was held together with bobby pins!! I looked so bazaar that I was shocked and speechless!! There was no supervisor to complain to. And, I was not offered the 20% discount for a first-time customer. I've been to many hair salons in my mature lifetime but this was the worst experience ever. I thought Ulta was a high-end hair salon, with highly trained employees but no, they treated me like some sucker. read more

Full disclosure this only "my" opinion & my experience: I really love this store! I'd not been to an Ulta store until about 5 years ago. I only go about 3-4 times a year. Mostly because the items I buy last awhile. Also, for anyone that's ever been to a store, any store or business near Ulta , just plan on sitting in traffic, because it's a day that ends in "Y". Plus, this is not a place for me to "peruse". Oh no way! Early on I would go with the "intention" to oh well... while I'm right here at blah blah store, I'll just run in a minute. BAHWAHAHA!! The joke was on me. This place is absolutely without question TOXIC for my wallet. Seriously, I've never been in that store & had an employee be rude or offer not to help. Even at the worse times of the year no one's ever been rude. Including employees working at the registers. I'll tell you what not all customers are kind . They always have whatever I've come for and if not? (Only once) They make arrangements for me to get it ASAP. Yep! I went in the other day looking to get color matched for a new foundation and concealer. Nanu (I believe that was her name) immediately approached me while I was looking through colors and insisted on helping me find my perfect match! She did a great job at explaining the different tones of my skin and how each shade accommodates those tones. We were able to get a perfect match for both and I was very pleased with her knowledge on the products and how she was able to help! Will be returning and requesting her for assistance! read more

Ulta is pretty much my happy place, ha ha ha. This is my go-to for all my cosmetic needs, especially since this store carries many cruelty-free beauty brands (including the house brand!). I'm also enrolled in the Ultamate Rewards program. What won me over is the customer service. I came in one day and asked the cashier if I could place an in-store order (like they do at Hot Topic), since this store only carries my favorite eyeshadow online and the shipping charges up the price to twice the cost of the product. The cashier said Ulta doesn't do in-store orders, but she could give me a coupon with a code for free shipping. Now THAT'S how you make loyal customers for life! read more

This store has a far more limited selection of makeup compared to Sephora and are often sold out of items for extended periods of time. The lower-end cosmetic area is very disorganized, with items in the wrong places, shoved to the backs of the displays, sold out entirely, and even opened and put back on the shelf by careless customers. Their testers are generally a big mess as well. The employees are friendly but obviously completely careless. I occasionally stop in here because its more convenient than going to the mall but not once have I ever been offered assistance with anything. read more

The Ulta salon is always booked weeks in advance which is ok. So I made a 2:30p appointment and was told 1:30 was better for my cut, color, and balayage(first time doing it). Had to wait an additional 45min after app because stylist was still with client. Still it's ok. When I finally sat down with her to go over details she realized she would not have time to complete. She said her shift was over at 5pm and would be leaving then. Get this, I was sitting with the salon MANAGER. The salon closes at 7pm! Me in tears she asked if I still just wanted a cut and to reschedule the other stuff later. I get 1 day off a week, work 60+ hours a week, haven't had a vacation in over 2 years and I will be going on in less than 2 weeks. I am a MGR at a restaurant and would never do that to my guests. All I wanted to do was treat myself for my 10 year wedding anniversary. No matter the cost and believe me my tips are fantastic. I kindly told her no I'll go somewhere else or figure this out on my own. I couldn't even make it to my car without ugly crying. Not only unprofessional by a MGR but I embarrassed myself in the process. read more
