I finally got a chance to try this place at the Bellevue farmers market! I been following them for a while now so was pretty excited to try these cookies. The lady and the guy there was nice and thoughtful about my likes and dislikes, which I appreciate. I ended up getting 6 cookies to try: Neopolitan -- I should have gotten individual flavors because my husband ate the whole thing didn't realizing it was different flavors...I did get a taste of the black sesame portion and it was really good. Yuzu strawberry --- one of my favorite! Love the flavor combo Gogujiugan snickerdoodle -- I like the sweet and savory combo Miso caramel -- this sweet and savory combo was also pretty good Honeycomb -- ok Peanut butter fluff -- ok as well These are the soft style type, which isn't what I usually go for, but I like most of the flavors I got. Excellent, special-but-familiar cookies. I picked these up from a Seattle street market, after having picked up other cookies, donuts, and too much food. Because of that I didn't try them until late that night, and they were still so moist, flavorful, and unique! I'm not often impressed by unique cookie flavors, but these are different. There was no single overpowering flavor, and the combos blended well to make something new. Folks at the booth were super friendly to describe pandan flavor to me (delicious BTW). Every cookie was a winner, and if I see them again I'll grab the ones that sounded more scary to try also :D Edit - just want to add that I'm usually not a fan of honey anything, but the BB honeycomb was one of my favorites. It was more a chewy caramel consistency and didn't have that overpowering honey flavor but still tasted different than a pure caramel. read more

I have been following this shop for awhile now waiting for them to stop by Seattle side, and they finally did! Umai is a little cookie shop (home bakery) run by David Okamoto, who grew up in Hawai'i and Japan. He has traveled throughout many areas of Asia learning and sharing his love for cooking and baking, and now he brings his uniquely delicious cookies to Washington! - *Strawberry Matcha *Peanut Butter Crunch *Chocolate Chip *Miso Caramel White Chocolate *Dubai Chocolate *Ube Milky Caramel - I personally like kind of softer cookies, so the batch I had were just a tad bit firm, but I thoroughly enjoyed them! The flavors matched the name of the cookies and I liked how the chocolate bits were on the chunkier side. Out of the 6 that I tried, my top 3 favorite flavors would have to be the Ube Milky Caramel, Chocolate Chip, and Strawberry Matcha! I look forward to buying more cookies next time! David and Nicole were sweet and I enjoyed talking to them! The prices are very reasonable and it was worth waiting to try. I'm here to talk about the chocolate chip cookie specifically. To judge a place right, you must try their most basic flavor. Cheese or Pepperoni Pizza at a Pizzaria, Vanilla at the gelato shop, and Chocolate Chip cookie here. I think it's a good way to see whether the skills are there or if other ingredients are needed to cover up/improve for the lack thereof (for ex. flavored beers...). And you know what? They're solid. So satisfying that I ordered another 3 dozen to share with my coworkers and then stash away in my freezer for my emergency sweet treat. My BIGGEST GRIPE with some other specialty cookies are that they're dry/ not a good balance of flavors, making some bites flavorless. These cookies are exactly what I am looking for/craving in a cookie. Buttery (AKA NOT DRY), generous with the chocolate and good variety of chocolate types to add dimension, and perfectly soft. Of course, I microwave mine. I know some that enjoy their cookie frozen/refrigerated, but I'm not a built like that. If you're like me and have a 1000 watt microwave, try 39 seconds at 90% power if warming from frozen. I dabble in crumble cookies (I enjoy trying new niche flavors) and I find that it takes me a long time to get through some of the flavors, even if I enjoy them. The one flavor I tried from here was definitely a more homemade and quality experience, for what I calculated to be a cheaper price per cookie than crumble. It looks like they are experimenting with new and unique flavors, so now that I'm confident in their classic offerings, I'm excited to be able to still get that experimental experience here too. Now that the most important part of this review is covered, I can report that the delivery was very smooth with my order, communication prompt, and cookies in good visual condition when received. Chef David was great at answering questions and explaining the ingredients that he uses which are only the best. My favorite of the three flavors was chocolate chip--very soft, chewy, and the perfect size (not too small).
