It was my first time trying fried oysters, and they absolutely did not disappoint! They were incredibly delicious and one of my favorite parts of the meal. I'll definitely be coming back for them. The atmosphere was also fantastic. The decor is adorable, and the music selection made the experience even more enjoyable. They played a mix of current hits and great throwbacks from the 2000s, which created such a fun and welcoming vibe. Our waitress was amazing. Even though she appeared to be having a long and busy shift, she consistently checked in on us and made sure we had everything we needed in a timely manner. We really appreciated her attentiveness and kindness. The only downside was parking. There wasn't any available directly in front, so we ended up parking in the Walmart garage and paying $12. We forgot to ask whether the restaurant offers parking validation or a voucher, so that's something future guests may want to check on. Stumbled upon this spot after working up an appetite from a long day. My partner and I were seated promptly by the friendly staff. It's a super cute little spot conveniently located right next to the Walmart in Tysons. We started with the Seared Spicy Roll with Salmon. It was alright, but was pretty doused in spicy mayo, which made the roll a little too soggy for my liking. I ordered the Cheesy Tonkotsu, which was comforting and satisfying. I loved the generous amount of cabbage that came with it. My partner ordered the Chirashi and enjoyed it as well. Unfortunately, the next morning, my partner became sick and ended up vomiting twice. Of course, I can't say for certain that it was from the food here, but the timing was concerning and definitely affected our overall experience. The waiters are usually pretty attentive and pretty fast. They did get my order wrong and I realize they charged me for the order they originally gave me, but I didn't realize until it was a little too late. That chicken karage bowl was majority rice. I think if you just get the appetizer, the rice bowl is not as needed. The soup Curry was really good. Definitely something very unique and had a little bit of a kick. We randomly decided to stop by for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. We initially were looking just for Japanese food but I was excited to try their khaki man gai. Craving for some ramen, I came and took a look at Umai since it was nearby. When we got here, we got seated immediately. It was next to a Walmart and so parking in the deck was pretty simple and plentiful. For dinner, I decided not get the ramen with broth but I got the Mazemen. I thought the dish was super flavorful and just overall great. There's something about brothless noodles as long as it's a good amount of veggies and meat sauce, you get this good mix of savory along with freshness that comes from the fresh veggies. The service was great, seating was plentiful as well, and it was really easy to get a seat. Stopped by for lunch today with a friend. I had the Chicken Katsu Rice Bowl and he had the Veggie Tofu Curry Rice. They were both fabulous - very rich in flavor. I have been a regular at Umai Ramen in Herndon for years, so I was excited to try their other location here in Tysons corner. They have some of the best ramen in the DMV in my opinion. Today I ordered the Chicken Karaage and the Chashu bun starters. Both were excellent and freshly prepared. We were there for happy hour so we had some drinks as well, all which were very tasty. This location is much larger and has a similar feel in asian decor to the original Herndon location. The bar area is beautiful and the service was great. I Umai Ramen! I found them late night starving at home through DoorDash.app like two months ago and I've ordered over 5+ times already! You HAVE to TRY; what I think is really mouth watering their Tonkatsu Ramen, Fried Oysters app, and Matcha latte Iced drink. There's three combinations will fill you up late at night. I ordered after 9:40 P.M. through DoorDash, and I live about 3 miles down the street, so delivery time is less than 25 minutes. I've been wanting to try the Khao Soi Chx but I think this dish is a typical Northern Thai soup dish, but Umai is a Japanese Ramen restaurant, which they might excel in as well?? It was my first time here and the staff was very helpful in suggesting foods to try and cautious to make me away of certain sensitivities from other customers. I chose the Tonkotsu Raman (see pictures). I also ordered the Soft Tofu Avocado (see pictures) for an appetizer. I love avocado and it's great for increasing good cholesterol. The mix of avocado and tofu squares was good. Tofu is not as flavorful as the avocado but it was a nice back and forth between them. OMG, the Ramen dish with pork was so good. The pork practically melted from its saute as was really good. The mix of veggies was a mix of taste and crunchy and was my first time trying black fungus (shredded mushroom) which was crunchy. They also provide their special spicy sauce and chili powder mix which is presented in little bowls to add some extra kick in places to try it out. We typically go around lunch time on the weekend, it's never too busy, the servers are super sweet and always check in to make sure you're good. The interior is also super cutesy! Umai Curry Ramen: its different than your typical ramen bcus its curry based, but the flavor is great and it isn't thaaat spicy. I always get seasoned eggs on the side. Its veryyyy filling, a bit heavy but still good! Five Spice Beef Ramen: it was delicious. Not spicy at all, but the beef was good and so was the broth. Its much lighter than the curry ramen so if you don't want to feel too heavy yet still full, i recommend this one! Chicken Karaage: always comes out hot and fresh! We ate at Umai a few nights ago and it was a great experience. The wait staff was prompt and welcoming and the flavors in all the dishes were phenomenal. I had the 5 spice beef ramen and my girlfriend had one of the curry ramens. We also had the small chirashi, chumai, and gyoza as appetizers. The ONLY reason for not getting a 5 star review is that we both felt there wasn't enough broth in our respective bowls of ramen. There was just enough broth to cover the noodles, but most of the other ingredients are sitting on top. There was a generous amount of beef in my ramen and chicken thigh in my girlfriend's ramen, but the heart and soul of the ramen is the broth! To fix this we ordered a side of additional broth for my ramen that we shared and it actually mixed really well with the curry broth. We will definitely come back, but we hope they increase the amount of broth in the ramen bowls next time! read more

I was at Marifuji down the road but I really wanted an unagidon, and there it was cold and I'd rather have it cooked fresh and warm here. So I came here and first got the tempura octopus. It wasn't crunchy. The batter was soft, bland, and boring. Then the unagidon came out. It wasn't fresh at all and probably previously frozen. Sauce overly sweet. Tastes like taking unagi out of a freezer and putting packaged condiment on it over rice. The servers were really nice and service was good too, but the food left a lot to be desired. read more

My wife and I were celebrating our 7th anniversary and with a little kid at home, we wanted to be back in time for bath/bed time. You know how many lunch omakases there are? Pretty much zero. That's where the Chef's hospitality came in... he opened a private omakase just for the two of us at 2pm -- no one else at the table but us. The quality, preparation, and service were 10 out of 10. I was blown away by the freshness of the food, the flavors, all of it. The price was extremely fair given the quality and prep of the food, it stands out against every DC omakase I've been to -- NYC as well. I'd highly recommend giving this a shot. read more

The bar was full when I arrived so I got a table instead. Came around 4pm and we stayed till they closed. The happy hour menu has set apps at $5-6 a plate (smaller portions). The drinks were for the most part tasty and also priced well! Food was pretty standard. The chicken karaage was excellent. Would get that again! Portions for the happy hour menu were small :( So why not more stars? The service was choppy. Even with all the alcohol I ordered (and food), I left with this feeling that I wasn't welcome there. One of the servers was very abrupt, pushy, and didn't refill or come around when we hoped she would. There's a male staff member who was more hospitable, but he could t make up for how she made me feel. I'd prolly return to try their donburi and ramen, especially since they seem very kid-friendly (a lot of families present at dinner time), but only because it's walking distance for me. read more
