Khao man gai Tod/zabb combo
Wilton P.

We randomly decided to stop by for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. We initially were looking just for Japanese food but I was excited to try their khaki man gai. My girlfriend othered the unagi donburi. Everything was delicious and the presentation was lovely. The space is adjacent to the Walmart but it airy and nicely decorated with flowers and Japanese ornaments. The service was friendly and well paced. I look forward to stopping by again next time I'm in the area.

Visited this ramen place for lunch and got seated immediately, which was a nice start. We ordered the Umai curry ramen with chicken karaage, chicken rolls, and pink tea. The ramen was delicious the noodles were perfectly cooked and packed with rich, flavorful curry broth. The chicken karaage was nicely fried but tasted a bit bland; a little more seasoning would make it much better. The chicken rolls, however, were excellent well-balanced with just the right amount of spice. Overall, a satisfying lunch with standout ramen and rolls, though the karaage could use a flavor boost.

The newer Umai location! Its so much bigger and nicer than the Herndon location! A larger bar, lots of indoor seating, and a good mix of booth and table seating. Service is wonderful as well, our servers were very attentive and kind. This location also has a larger menu, is more classic Japanese favorites! We really enjoyed the Tonkotsu Ramen and Tonkatsu Rice, and I feel like their portions are pretty big?!!! My partner and I agreed this location is a new favorite! Random - they really went all out on Halloween decorations! Love it!

Craving for some ramen, I came and took a look at Umai since it was nearby. When we got here, we got seated immediately. It was next to a Walmart and so parking in the deck was pretty simple and plentiful. For dinner, I decided not get the ramen with broth but I got the Mazemen. I thought the dish was super flavorful and just overall great. There's something about brothless noodles as long as it's a good amount of veggies and meat sauce, you get this good mix of savory along with freshness that comes from the fresh veggies. The service was great, seating was plentiful as well, and it was really easy to get a seat. I think they have a good size for big parties as well as I saw another group throw their birthday party there.

I have been a regular at Umai Ramen in Herndon for years, so I was excited to try their other location here in Tysons corner. They have some of the best ramen in the DMV in my opinion. Today I ordered the Chicken Karaage and the Chashu bun starters. Both were excellent and freshly prepared. We were there for happy hour so we had some drinks as well, all which were very tasty. This location is much larger and has a similar feel in asian decor to the original Herndon location. The bar area is beautiful and the service was great. They have quite an extensive menu so we will def be back to try some more items!

I decided to give this place another try by recommending it to a friend coming into town. This time I got their curry ramen and it did not disappoint. There is definitely a Thai or Southeast influence on these Japanese dishes. It tasted almost like a laksa but still had that umami taste. Service was good per usual. Ambiance on a Friday evening was calmer than expected. This is definitely a to-go spot for me now!

Umai Ramen & Donburi in Tysons, VA has started offering sushi, and their new omakase is truly a hidden gem. The experience felt like having a private chef -- it was just the two of us the night we went, and the omakase is tucked away in a separate sushi bar section of the restaurant. It feels private, exclusive, and perfect for a celebration. The progression of dishes was thoughtfully crafted, taking us on a journey from northern to southern Japan. Some of the standouts for me: * Shima aji with lime zest - bright, citrusy, and refreshing * Hotate (scallop) - very good, clean, and sweet with none of the usual fishiness * Chutoro + uni topped with caviar and gold flakes - rich, creamy, and luxurious, definitely a favorite bite We also added the premium sake pairing, which I highly recommend. Each pour was intentional and elevated the flavors beautifully. For the quality, intimacy, and portions, the price is unbeatable: $120 per person (+$45 for sake pairing). Honestly, it's such a steal that I don't think it will stay like this for long once more people find out. The chef is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate -- you can feel that passion in every course. This was more than a meal; it was an art form. Located at Umai Ramen & Donburi in Tysons, VA. There's a parking garage right nearby -- I usually park on the third floor since it's less crowded and then just take the elevator down. Reservations: Call the restaurant directly, or go to their website click Order Online scroll to the bottom of the page to reserve (35% deposit required). This was a very good omakase experience, and I'll definitely be back (next time with my husband!). Highly recommend checking it out.

Tonkatsu ramen

I got the tonkotsu ramen, and the broth was rich and full of flavor. I also tried the garlic edamame which I would recommend! Overall, this place is worth checking out if you're in the mood for a bowl of ramen. There was plenty of parking in the parking decks.

We have been coming to Umai for two years now. We have a fixed income, and make it our special date night spot, every time. The atmosphere is so cozy! They tend to change it around for special holidays, and you can really tell they have fun doing it! The food is always hot, delicious, and plated with care. I had been searching forever for a place that had good Japanese Curry, and Umai knocks it out of the park! You can tell the ingredients are fresh and everything is made with love and care. The servers are amazing! They are ontop of keeping things clean and refills are topped off. They take time to ensure you are enjoying your dining experience and are accommodating to all of your needs. I would HIGHLY recommend this location for their food, atmosphere, and happy hour deals!

Chawanmushi

I was pleasantly surprised by Umai. Service: 5 Stars for being attentive but not hovering! She even remembered I asked for no scallions in my ramen and made sure same thing for my steamed egg (chawanmushi) Ambiance: 5 Stars! Clean, cute, and fun Japan vibes! Food: 4.5 Stars! I LOVED the chawanmushi! The mushroom flavor was next level and it was just oozing umami flavors! I would Def go back just for this bad boy! My tonkatsu ramen was tasty and broth was great. I'm def coming back to try other items on the menu! Thank you!

Came for happy hour and the cocktails were definitely super tasty. The appetizer of chicken skin was good but slightly on the too breaded side and lost a bit of the chicken flavor. The sushi rolls were just okay, but for the happy hour price everything was well worth it. Servers were nice and very attentive The vibes in the restaurant is also super cute the decoration was very pretty and clean. I will have to come back for dinner someday

The food was amazing. I will definitely have to come back to try more of their dishes. Everything was so flavorful and the portion was a lot. The drinks were good. The prices were great for value and flavor. Free parking for first two hours in the garage. The staff were really attentive and nice. The restaurant is nicely decorated with nice options for seating. The music isn't too loud which is great to hear people near you.

It was my first time here and the staff was very helpful in suggesting foods to try and cautious to make me away of certain sensitivities from other customers. I chose the Tonkotsu Raman (see pictures). I also ordered the Soft Tofu Avocado (see pictures) for an appetizer. I love avocado and it's great for increasing good cholesterol. The mix of avocado and tofu squares was good. Tofu is not as flavorful as the avocado but it was a nice back and forth between them. OMG, the Ramen dish with pork was so good. The pork practically melted from its saute as was really good. The mix of veggies was a mix of taste and crunchy and was my first time trying black fungus (shredded mushroom) which was crunchy. They also provide their special spicy sauce and chili powder mix which is presented in little bowls to add some extra kick in places to try it out. I highly recommend this as the service and food we're excellent. I also had a mug of Sapporo on tap.

Their Sukiyaki and Original Abura Soba has been by go to. I'd recommend getting the chili oil to complete the taste if you are ok with a little spicy. The marinated beef was cooked to perfection in the Sukiyaki. I also tried their seaweed salad which tasted fresh and had the right amount of seasoning. And their Takoyaki was cooked perfectly and had a good amount of octopus inside. Restaurant inside is bit on the small side but they do have bar counter-style seating too. Tables have been on the cleaner side compared to other restaurants of this price range. Parking is easy too, being a large shared parking lot. Service has been good both times I went with attentive staff and they also know when to leave you alone.

If you come to Kajiken expecting a traditional steaming bowl of ramen, recalibrate. This is abura…read moresoba country -- and they do it exceptionally well. For the uninitiated, abura soba is a brothless ramen where the magic happens at the bottom of the bowl. A savory aromatic oil and tare base sit beneath springy, chewy noodles, topped with a silky poached egg and classic ramen accoutrements. The key is to mix thoroughly -- really commit -- until the egg emulsifies with the oil and sauce, coating every strand in glossy, umami-packed richness. The texture is the standout. The noodles have a satisfying chew that holds up against the weight of the oil without becoming heavy. It's indulgent but not cloying. The customization element elevates the experience: a drizzle of chili oil adds warmth and depth, while a splash of vinegar cuts through the richness with bright acidity. Dial it in to your preference and the bowl transforms in real time. If you're a fan of Chinese scallion oil noodles or Korean jajangmyeon, you'll recognize the comfort-food DNA here -- but abura soba feels more refined and layered. The flavor is concentrated, savory, and deeply satisfying without relying on broth. This is the kind of spot that knows exactly what it is and executes with confidence. A refreshing change from the ramen norm and absolutely worth the visit. Bonus points for the casual kid friendly atmosphere and also offering traditional soup ramen and donburi for less adventurous dining companions.

For the food, the appetizer platter is a great deal for the price and offers a nice variety. The popcorn chicken had a great Sichuan kick that I really enjoyed but wasn't overly spicy. I was really excited for the beef ramen, but it was a massive letdown. The beef itself was super tough and lacked flavor. While the broth was well balanced and clean, there simply wasn't enough of it - even though I asked to skip the corn. It feels like this place focuses a lot of energy on the interior decor, promos, and aesthetics, while the quality of the main entrees hasn't quite caught up. Because the core dish missed the mark, I don't think I'd come back.
