Same thing when we were done and ready to pay- we had to hunt down our server as we were already tired of waiting for him to come by. Oh my goodness, that seared fatty salmon, amazing. I was very pleasantly surprised that the customer service is so ON IT. I believe the avocado being unripe was an isolated event because after everything that happened with my previous order, the manger gave me a gift card to come back and rectify the situation. So my husband and I went back on a random day and we loved it. The ambiance is really cool, very nice vibe on the balcony. You can see the chefs from above & I really liked that. I was looking forward to enjoying an authentic meal with a friend at Kusshi whom I hadn't seen in months. The food was colorful, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. The ambiance was colorful with beautiful murals with a casual feel. Our server was friendly and did a great job when he was present. However, there were several times when we needed basic items and had difficulty locating him, which affected the overall flow of the meal. Unfortunately, the experience was further overshadowed by repeated interactions with Peter, the manager. His abrupt manner made me feel as though I was a nuisance simply for making reasonable requests needed to enjoy our meal. The most concerning moment occurred when a woman at our table appeared to be choking or having difficulty and urgently needed a glass of water. We asked for a glass so she could take a sip, but the response was incredibly slow given the circumstances. Thankfully, there was a neighboring table with empty glasses, which allowed us to get her water ourselves. I understand that restaurants can be busy, but guests should never leave feeling like they were a burden for asking for basic needs to be met. This was a meal I had been looking forward to sharing with a friend I hadn't seen in months, and unfortunately the experience put a damper on what should have been a special evening. Been to Kusshi a couple of times for their happy hour (worth it!) and now finally tried their food-food. The location is tucker at the corner of a busy plaza so I never noticed it before. It also looks really small from the outside but it's actually got a lot of seating and even had a loft! Their lunch menu seemed good so I got the beef sukiyaki bento box--soo tasty and satisfying! I used to work at a Japanese (corporate) owned restaurant back in college and this was my favorite lunch item. The flavors are similar! Their service is great also. The server remembers me (rare these days!) and they were all very attentive. If you enjoy open kitchens, sitting on the second floor allows you to watch the sushi chefs filet and make rolls. Ok I have been here before but again forgot to take pictures of my food or drink because I was a fight for my life in there. Now I really do love they have an upstairs sitting area which I have the last time I was here. I wanted to sit there, but there was a swarm of gnats or fruit flies everywhere!! Now I was thinking it was maybe just in the upstairs sitting area...no they were in the entire restaurant! I couldn't even enjoy my miso soup without having to continually swat them to not accidentally have any of them land on my food. When I ordered my sushi I couldn't even eat because I had to immediately put napkins over the sushi so nothing would land on my food! I ended up moving outside which was way better than sitting in the restaurant and this is why I have to give them a 3-star. Because this is very unsanitary as they were EVERYWHERE! Customers shouldn't have to be swatting gnats the entire time we are trying to eat. So I don't have any pictures of my food as I was scared one might land on my sushi. The Tokyo Tea was really good I think I had 3 of them. The wait staff were really nice...but they need to get those gnats under control. Ate here last night. Good was pretty good. I went a little bit after six because I saw a photo on here that happy hour ends at 6:30 but it didn't. It ended at six. Luckily the waitress was really nice and still honored it. Adding the new happy hour menu here. I feel like there were some decent deals there, but then other stuff didn't seem great overall I enjoyed it, but don't feel like I really ordered the right things. Kusshi is a wonderful gem somewhat "hidden" in the far left corner of Pike 7 Plaza. I visited on a Wednesday night and was surprised there was a good amount of people having dinner. There is seating downstairs as well as seating upstairs. The store is beautiful and clean with Japanese inspired wall paintings and floral decor. Our server for the night was Kat who did an amazing job. Very attentive, personable, and friendly. For a party of 3 we opted to try one of the sushi boats, specifically the "row boat" with 76pc. Everything is made fresh and tastes fresh. We loved everything from the sushi boat except for one of the rolls which I believe is the firecracker roll only because it was a lot spicier than we expected it to be so we couldn't finish that one. Other than that, for 3 people the row boat is plenty of food. We should've ordered the smaller boat because there was some sushi leftover but the seared salmon belly is a must! read more

Solid sushi spot in Vienna. We ordered a bunch of items, starting off with the takoyaki and the gyoza. The takoyaki was really good, and the sauce went with it nicely. The gyoza was good as well but nothing special. We ordered several sushi rolls as well, along with salmon and yellowtail sashimi. I don't eat a ton of sushi/sashimi, but both tasted very fresh and were tasty. I ordered the kakuni donburi for my main, and it was also tasty. The only complaint I have is I wished it had more of the Japanese pickles. Service was solid, no complaints. The restaurant is very cute. At first glance it doesn't look like it has much seating, but there is an upstairs area as well with more seating. I would definitely come again! read more

I've worked at the neighboring Sushi restaurant across from this place. Sometime a month or two ago, I got off of my shift and came inside this establishment. One of the taller workers who's sitting down on the table, scoots out aggressively, walks up to my face with his chest puffed out and stares me down with a "Can I help you sir!?". I didn't take it as a threat, but the ambiance within the room made it feel like I was unwanted in the establishment. I simply smiled, walked passed him and asked if I could look at the menu. I then order 1 Mochi piece. I find it a bit strange that a singular piece is 5 dollars but that's besides the point. The same server opens the refrigerator and pulls out the Mochi with his Bare Hands that I witnessed him use to eat his food and wipe his face before I walked into that door. I actually live in Japan and eat mochi regularly. There was nothing special about that Mochi in taste being 5 dollars. The entire strip where this is located is amazing, every establishment treats neighboring staff kindly, EXCEPT for this place. I've been to other Kusshi's and this is by far my least favorite one. I don't like to give out low reviews as this is my first ever one. But this is just improper etiquette. read more

Dangerous mistake. I called ahead to ask if I was allowed to do a pickup order with a sesame allergy, they said yes of course. I wrote a note for each item on the online ordering system "SESEAME ALLERGY" and it shows printed clearly on the receipt. When I picked up, I made sure one final time to ask the manager to make sure there was no sesame, he promised there wasn't. I drove all the way back home, and whatdoyaknow... sesame seeds everywhere. I also got the California maki roll with roe, ovi, spicy salmon, and kusshi seared fatty salmon. The rice quality is so fresh and you know it's good when it doesn't fall apart. The seafood tasted fresh. My fan favorite is the kusshi seared fatty salmon. You can taste the smokiness which pairs well with the sauce on top. Also, the right chew texture. Kusshi is a solid option in the Tyson's area for sushi and sashimi (plus other non-fish options if that's what you're in the mood for)! It was also surprisingly family friendly which is always refreshing with little ones. We ordered gyoza (with the option of steamed, pan-fried, OR deep fried!) and adegashi tofu to start, 3 rolls (Cherry Blossom, Volcano, and Chesapeake), as well as the shrimp tempura katsu curry entree. My son absolutely loved the adegashi tofu mixed with rice and my typically picky eater daughter was a big fan of the curry. The fish on the rolls were fresh and the slices were generous. For those who partake, they also had a great selection of Japanese beers (Orion FTW) and sakes as well. The staff is friendly and all of our dishes came out in a timely manner. Had high hopes for this place... but... first impression, fruit flies all over our table... had to move... still had fruit flies, though not as many as upstairs. Decided to tough it out as it was getting late. Had the speed boat and chicken curry katau. Chicken curry katsu was bland, chicken was fried well but the curry was disappointing. Sushi was good but then when we got home, we were all parched and thirsty which usually means there was a lot of MSG. The only bad sushi was the octopus which had a strong fishy taste. They had delicious appetizers, chirashi, and we tried some sushi options such as the seared salmon belly, tiger roll, and (I think?) dragon roll. Everything was superb and arrived in a timely manner, and also with beautiful presentation. From our viewpoint, we can also see the sushi being made from essentially a bird's eye view. Our favorite portion of the meal was of course the seared salmon belly... so definitely try that if you're a salmon lover! There's also a happy hour menu here, so maybe if I'm in the area and there's traffic, I'd stop by here to kill some time and eat some sushi! As a sushi-lover, I was pleased with the quality of the fish at Kusshi Ko! While I am familiar with the other concepts located in MD/DC, I was excited that this opened up in Tysons. There is plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. The interior was colorful with two levels of seating. My table ordered the Sashimi Platter and it was both beautifully decorated and delicious! The menu itself is pretty affordable compared to other high-end sushi spots, but it doesn't shy away from the quality of the fish which I appreciated.
