    Spicy miso ramen
    M. L.

I've been here a few times and this seems to be one of the better ramen places in the region. They used to served edamame as a free starter, but not anymore. Service is always excellent. Staff is friendly. The spicy miso ramen was ok. It was very salty and needed more broth. Flavor was average. However, Good portion size for what you pay for. Restaurant is fairly clean, but could see smudge marks on the windows.

The food is super delicious. The staff is super kind and attentive. They saw me drop ice my beer and brought me a whole cup of ice for it.. They heard me drop my Chopsticks and brought me a new pair. The broth is super delicious. A cute spot as well

I read about this place in Northern VA Magazine about a year ago and the recommendation did not disappoint. I visited on a cold winter day and was looking for ramen; just the perfect place. The restaurant has a variety of ramens (different base), sushi options, and dishes ranging from bibimbap to tonkatsu and such. At lunch time, they have a ramen combo special, which includes a ramen dish and a side (lots of options to pick from... we went for General Tao's chicken and a spicy tuna sushi roll). We also got an order of musubi (with SPAM), which was average but super enjoyable. I got the spicy miso ramen and it was delicious. The pork tasted like candy and really made the dish. The broth was rich and loaded with noodles and toppings. Our server was very attentive and pleasant and checked on us a couple times. I loved the ambiance because I think the place used to be an old Pizza Hut, so it was a bit nostalgic. There's plenty of parking on both sides of the restaurant, and each has its own entrance.

NICE COZY COMFORT SPOT * Price: Come from 11:00-3:00pm for their lunch special since they have $9.99 on select items like yakisoba, or grab the daily ramen combo if you're hungry. You can get ramen and sushi for $18.99 or ramen and a side for $17.99 (I usually get the karaage if I choose this option). You'll probably spend no more than $16 before taxes if you just get ramen or anything else on the menu. * Food: The SUSHI BAR IS NOT OPEN EVERYDAY, so if you want that, check before you go. Almost all ramen bowls come with nitamago, protein, bean sprouts, scallions, and nori. My go-to is the Shio or Spicy Miso, but if you LOVE seafood, get the Seafood Bowl because it comes with A LOT. I always ask for chili oil on the side. The chashu is very thick and the food is filling. The yakisoba, karaage, and okonomiyaki are also good if you don't want ramen but still want something warm. * Cleanliness/Setting: Very clean and minimalistic. They have several booths on the side, tables in the middle, and can accommodate bigger parties. Most of the time when I've come in, they're playing upbeat J-pop or K-pop hits. * Service: I've been going here since 2020/2021. It's one of my favorite comfort ramen spots since it's cheaper than other places and the portions are good. Every staff member I've had has been extremely friendly and checks in occasionally. (I do miss the edamame appetizers they used to give out though.)

When life calls for a steaming bowl of happiness, Marumen doesn't just answer -- it shows up at your door with noodles. The tonkatsu was crispy and satisfying, though it played a little shy on flavor until I gave it a generous drizzle of katsu sauce. After that? Let's just say we became very good friends. But the real headliner? The miso ramen. Our crew ordered it every which way -- pork, chicken, vegetarian -- and not a noodle was left behind. Bowls were practically licked clean (classily, of course). The eel sushi had nice flavor, though it was a bit light on, well... the eel. Tasty, but left me wishing for one more smoky-sweet bite to finish it off. Bottom line: Marumen is cozy, hearty, and dangerously good at convincing you that "just one bowl" of ramen is a reasonable life choice.

Everything was delicious. The broth is very light and flavorful. The radish in the soup doesn't make it feel heavy. The braised beef was warm instead of hot but it was still tasty. They give you a lot of food.

I was craving ramen and searched for a spot nearby--this place popped up with amazing reviews, so we decided to give it a try. As soon as we walked in, we were seated right away and greeted almost instantly by our server, Sean--who was absolutely incredible! He shared the specials with us and clearly explained what substitutions could and couldn't be made, which I really appreciated. I ordered the vegetarian ramen and was honestly surprised--most places don't do vegetarians justice, but this bowl was fire! The broth was rich, the shiitake fried mushrooms were full of flavor, and the soft-boiled egg was perfect. I didn't even need to add any spice... but I did anyway . My wife got the veggie fried rice, and everything tasted super fresh. My son ordered the eel sushi and devoured it in seconds! Our food came out fast--within 10-15 minutes--and Sean, along with two other team members, checked on us throughout the meal to make sure we were good. Sean was so sweet and attentive that we gave him an extra tip, and he even asked to make sure it wasn't a mistake. We ended up chatting about his background and his favorite ramen--it was a really dope experience. Definitely coming back. This spot is a gem!

Food: ramen 4.5/5 the ramen was decent, I would get it again. Service: 5/5 Nick was great as our server. Ambiance: the place was clean and the spot was spacious enough to accommodate a good amount of people. I would definitely come again.

We visited Marumen for a rainy day dinner and it was worth the drive. The ramen is great here. The service could be just a tiny bit better but the food overcompensated for this. I loved the okonomiyaki with seafood. I struggle with some places not putting enough fish in these but this one did not disappoint. The bao buns with pork were absolutely delicious. I will be returning for sure.

Unfortunately both dishes contain eggs and are not suitable for vegans. However, the fried rice can be requested to be made without eggs.

All our rice dishes and small plates with the exception of the pork buns, spicy chicken buns, okonomiyaki, and tonkatsu.

The bad thing about Genki Izakaya is how crowded it can be. I'm not sure I would show up without reservations again. I've been there 3 times, the first time we didn't have a reservation and the hostess seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. She said the waitlist was very long. We decided not to wait. The second time we also didn't have a reservation and the hostess again seemed very hesitant to add us to the wait list. This time we did wait and were quoted 1.5 hours and it actually took about an hour. Not as bad as quoted but still busy! Third time we finally had a reservation and it still took us 20 mins to get seated as they did not have a table ready for us. To be honest the restaurant itself seems too small, they probably could be twice as big. The reason is the food at Genki Izakaya is in my opinion the best of the 3 Izakayas in the area. The Yakitori is good, hot and reasonably priced although I wish they would let you customize the $20 Yakitori Platter. I tried the A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Hot Stone and was surprised that they cook it for you instead of you cooking it yourself on the hot stone. The waiter overcooked 2 pieces of the Wagyu which is annoying when it is so expensive but overall it tasted great. I like their Tonkotsu Ramen, it broth tastes great and I've had ramen all over this area, in New York City, LA area, Tokyo and Kyoto. It isn't the best I've ever tasted but it is really good especially for this area. Once seated the service is good and the food comes out quickly and everything we've had has tasted great. The only problem is how crowded it can be because its so popular! Only bad thing for us is it isn't too close about a 45 min drive but worthwhile - definitely try it if you like Izakayas and Japanese food.

It was around $18.50. you get a lot for the price. The pork was really well marinated, had a lot of flavor, and they were not stingy with the amount. It also felt somewhat healthy since it came with a nice variety of sides. The meal came with three banchan: bean sprouts, kimchi, and cucumbers. They were all good and nicely pickled. There was also a small miso soup, which was a nice touch. The sides made the meal feel like a great deal. You get rice, and the purple rice upgrade was free. The salad was good too. it was not the ginger-style dressing. The tempura came with four pieces, and it was actually crispy panko instead of just being soft batter, which is always a good sign. The sushi was good as well, and the California roll came with three pieces. The vibe was also really welcoming. It was still busy on a Sunday around 1:30, which makes it seem like people really like this place. I also liked that they had self-pour water, which is always nice for a casual spot. Overall, this was a great meal. The portions were big, the food had a lot of flavor, and the value was really good. I totally recommend Maru Ramen & Korean Cuisine.

We asked out server what was going on with the Vienna Maru and she told us they were gradually shutting it down completely. However, the Pan Am Maru is not fully functional yet. They have a sushi counter but it won't open until next year. I also don't know if the current Pan Am Maru menu is the one they are going with going forward. But I do note it is smaller than the one at the Vienna Maru, noting in particular that the lunch options, such as the bento boxes, are not on the Pan Am Maru menu. If they have done away with the bento boxes, I'm not that interested in returning. Service at the Pan Am Maru was very good. The ambience is comfortable. The place was filling up and the ambiance reminds me of a traditional bustling noodle house - perfect for the cold snap we were experiencing at the time. We got hot and sour noodle soup, sichuan beef noodle soup, and an order of their pork soup dumplings. Portions are generous and prices are fair, it's easy to become a regular here if you live nearby. The hot and sour noodle soup is as advertised - just enough spice to complement the sour, but not overwhelm to make it feel like mala. It's served, as expected, with glass noodles, some bak choi, and some pork slices. Nothing spectacular but par for the course. The sichuan beef noodle foon soup was slight notch better. The broth gives really warm vibe and you can tell it's been brothing for a long time. Again just the right amount of spicy to make you keep slurping for more. The noodles were average, chewy, but not bouncy. Also comes with a healthy amount beef slices and bak choi. Again - a great noodle soup bowl but nothing jaw dropping. Soup dumplings were fantastic, however. The pork definitely has its own marinade and the soup is flavorful. The dumpling skin is well constructed and complemented well with the noodle soups - especially in cold weather. tldr; solid noodle soup spot, they seem to be consistent and really hits the mark when you're in a for your noodle fix.
