So much better than the chaotic vegetarian ramens out there overloaded with chunks of tofu, corn, and shoots and broccoli and what not. Tonkotsu Kara Miso--3/5-balanced spice level, comforting miso broth, could do with more broth volume, pork was done well. Kids combo meal--6/5-star of the show. With a little bowl of ramen, 4 gyoza or karaage (japanese fried chicken), a marinated boiled egg, a bottle of Yakult (popular probiotic dairy based drink popular in parts of Asia), you have an engaged and happy kid. The restaurant is a little smaller than I expected, so definitely plan to come on the earlier side to avoid the lunch crowd. Decided on a small Negi Namban ramen which definitely hit the spot. The broth was super flavorful - it was rich and slightly salty. My bowl came with 1 piece of cha-shu (2 pieces if you got a regular bowl and 3 pieces for a large bowl), fried onions, regular onions, jalapenos, and scallions. Solid choice here for sure! My favorite is their Negi Namban ramen, which is tonkatsu broth infused with japaleños, so it's spicy with the crisp aroma of the peppers enhancing the flavorful bone broth. I've been going here for years and it's been my go to ramen place in Northern Virginia. While parking is a bit of a hassle to find, luckily you can get your parking ticket validated here, but the garage is free on weekends up to two hours. Not too bad right? The food here is good. I often get the Ramen Combo which consists of your choice of broth, what size bowl, what appetizer to add, and then an egg or a salad for an upcharge. This is worth getting as even the appetizer they give you is filling. My go to is generally a Large Shoyu Ramen bowl with Gyoza. The Chashu bowl is also pretty good but it's probably too fatty for those conscious about what they are eating. The food comes out pretty quick; I got my appetizers out quick and then my ramen bowl. For this review I got Kaarage which is Japanese Fried Chicken served with Kewpie Mayo and Takoyaki which is a fried octopus ball in batter. They were both delicious but they didn't taste any different compared to the other ramen places I've been to. The Gyoza is also the same thing; it's made in house but it's not really anything special. The ramen came out and it was delicious to eat. They do have chili oil on the tables if you like some spice but it does help to make the broth much more flavorful. The ramen also came with two pieces of Chashu, arguably the best part but it was all wonderful to eat and even drink the broth at the end. If there is also one thing to note, they do have an rewards system through their app where if you frequent their restaurant, they will give you points which can add up for something to redeem at another visit. It's great because not many ramen places even do that and it's another plus for me to come back to. If you're looking for some of the best ramen spots in NoVA, look no further! read more

Was catching up with some friends and was told this is one of the better spots for ramen in the area. I got their ramen set that came with gyoza and ramen of your choice. The gyoza was solid, nice and juicy meat with a little crisp bottom. The ramen I got was goma miso which was is an earthy miso flavor which was very unique. Was pleasantly surprised to find this chain also in NOVA given I tried this chain in Boston first. I ordered the same dish the TONKOTSU TORONIKU RAMEN on a cold rainy afternoon for dinner. This dish was perhaps better than I recall as the "toro-niku" was very savory. Overall I'd give the ramen dish (8/10). I also tried the chicken karrage which was very hot and fresh, however maybe the pieces were on the small side (8/10). Lastly also got the nigiri platter which was perfectly fine, but since it doesn't stand out, I would perhaps skip this item next time (7/10). Overall the decor is pretty expected, and nothing extravagant or unique caught my eye. The restaurant itself is smaller so the tables were also smaller than I expected, but this was not that big of any issue for the two of us. Santouka is one of our go-to spots for ramen, and we love it every time. In my opinion, it is the best ramen in all of Northern Virginia. The service is always quick and attentive, which makes the experience easy and enjoyable from start to finish. The ingredients always taste fresh, and everything is consistently flavorful. I have tried so many different ramens here, but my favorites are the Tonkotsu Shouyu and any of their special ramens, especially the Tan Tan Ramen and Black Garlic when they have it. Their karaage is some of the best I have had. Honestly, I enjoy all of their appetizers. Their tea service is also lovely, and their desserts are a nice way to end the meal. I enjoyed the Shio broth more as the Goma one is slightly salty for me. We walked in around noon on a Saturday and got seated promptly. This is imo the best ramen place in the DMV area. I came to Hokkaido Ramen Santouka on a rainy Saturday afternoon. There is street parking as well as a parking lot. I will say that the parking lot is super pricey at $8.37 in the Park Mobile app for just two hours. We had four adults and two children in our party and were immediately seated upon arrival. The staff were great with getting the children settled and taking our order quickly. It was surprisingly not packed for a weekend, but I assume it was due to the nasty weather outside that we lucked out with seating. I ordered the Pork Katsu Bento that comes with rice, pork tonkatsu, edamame, salad, ajitama (marinated egg) and lemon. The portions were generous and filling. The pork tonkatsu was fried to a nice crisp. I appreciated that it wasn't soaked and drenched in sauce, only just enough sauce for flavor. I would definitely order this bento box again. I ordered the Kid's Shoyu for my son. This comes in an extra small bowl with noodles, one piece of chashu, one piece of naruto, seaweed, bamboo, green onions and filled to the brim with soup broth. This was the perfect portion for a child. Overall, the staff were attentive and checked on us multiple times throughout our meal. The food came out quickly and just as we ordered. I will definitely be back soon to try more menu items... even with the expensive parking I would make the trip since we enjoyed the food and had such a positive experience :) read more
