Mark S. I am recently divorced and I had to move furniture and other items from my old house to a townhouse that I'm renting. I used Yelp for the first time to locate a mover in central NJ. I saw that Umex had several stellar reviews so I contacted them. Mari came to my old house to inspect the furniture to be moved and emailed me a firm amount and contact later that day. I was already impressed by her pleasant nature and promptness. It gets much better. The next week was the big move. The head of the 3 man crew was named Uri. They showed up with a large moving truck on time, and proceeded to inspect the various pieces of furniture and boxed items to be moved. I was concerned about a large China cabinet with 4 glass doors. Uri and his crew disassembled it, removed all the glass and wood shelves and wrapped it in moving blankets secured with strapping tape. This process was repeated for every item including a 3 piece L shaped desk that was a bear to take apart. The unloading and reassembly went smoothly. The desk and bookcases had to go in the basement down a narrow staircase. Uri put up sheets of cardboard on the walls to protect the sheet rock from dings. There was no damage whatsoever to any of my furniture or the house/ townhouse that I moved out of and into. Uri inspected everything before and after the move to make sure no damage occurred. The Umex crew were true pprofessionals in every respect. They are careful, courteous, prompt, and provided a stress free moving experience. Good, solid guys. Uri and Mari were both very much available whenever I called with questions, etc. Uri has a faulty internet connection, though. He never sent me confirmation emails ;) Anyway, on moving day, the biggest problem was the weather (it was raining all day) and the traffic which slowed them down. They were supposed to show up at 12noon, and finally arrived around 7pm. My dad is almost 90 years old and was waiting with me, and I was a little concerned about his health at the length of time it took for them to show up. But once they did, they took right over, had very good manners and attitude, were extremely professional, and sat my dad down and said "no worries, we will take care of it all". He and I were very pleased at the speed and professionality with which they handled the removal of the furniture and the fragile items, and all in all, were pleased with the move. I did pay top dollar, and paid $150 more than I was quoted. Not sure why I had to pay the $100 extra but I did give them a $50 tip. I paid the $100 as there was no point arguing and the rain had made things difficult for all of us. Plus, I was their last customer and the guys were tired. I paid the extra $50 because it was already 10pm by the time we got done, and I wanted them to be able to get something to eat before going home (and I hope they did) and hitting the sack. I spoke with several moving companies when planning our two-day move from NJ down to MD, and UMEX was my top choice by far. Uri and the entire team were excellent from the first phone call through the entire process. They showed up exactly on time and were extremely courteous and pleasant to work with. The quoted price was flat-rate with no surprises, so we knew exactly what the move was going to cost ahead of time. The team packed up our apartment and made multiple stops, moving musical instruments as well as some very heavy and old furniture. In our new house we had brand new cream-colored carpet and newly refinished hardwood floors. Nothing was broken or damaged, and our floors didn't get a single scratch on them. The team was incredibly considerate and went above and beyond - they helped me put felt pads on the bottom of all of the furniture before putting anything down on the hardwoods, and even took their shoes off if they had to step off of the carpet coverings (without me even asking). The day after the move was completed I was hoping to use my spin bike (which had been packed and moved by UMEX) and texted Uri looking for the charger in our sea of boxes. He knew exactly where it was and helped me find it, which is definitely beyond the job description! First, a brief summary of our move: UMEX picked up the contents of our 4BR home that was split between a temporary rental and a storage unit close by in Allentown, NJ. They then stored it for us until we closed on our home in Cypress, TX a few months later. Now, here's why they get 5 stars: - Communication, communication, communication! Every time I called (and it tended to be almost every days as the delivery date to TX approached) someone would answer and attempt to get me the information I needed. - Our stuff was well taken care of. The movers brought a ton of blankets when our stuff was packed away and used every last one of them. - The delivery was on time. We gave a delivery target of August 20th - 21st and they arrived on the 21st. I must note that the driver was awesome. I have a 4 year old who us fascinated with trucks and he let him sit in the truck and take a picture. I would recommend UMEX to anyone doing a long distance move like we did. We waffled with going with one of the huge van lines out there, honestly, because there is a huge amount of trust involved with giving someone your entire life. After meeting with UMEX I felt at ease and we decided to move forward. It was the best decision we could have made. We saved a huge amount on the cost and the moving experience itself couldn't have been better. read more

This has been the best moving experience I've had. A great team of movers... that's what they were - a team! From the start, the experience was excellent. Someone visited my home to give me a free quote. They followed up with me. I was moving into a new home, and I wanted to make sure the new floors didn't get scratched and there were no damages. Uri, the team leader, called me to assure that they will be very careful, and that they'll lay runners wherever the movers were going to step. On the day of the move, they arrived on time. Uri gave his team instructions before the move and during the move to ensure there were no damages and to move everything efficiently. His team was such a pleasant group of people. We had some 50 boxes of books to carry to the basement. And they did it with a smile and such great attitude. They were all really professional too. And the topping on the cake - they offer very competitive prices! We had many many more boxes than we originally estimated, and we were expecting a much higher bill. But it didn't cost substantially more because they offer better rates with more boxes. Kudos to the company and all their employees for running such a great show! Uri and his crew moved us the first week in December from a 5 bedroom home in northern NJ to our new home in the Hudson Valley , over 100 mile relocation. I can't say enough about their professionalism, and efficiency. From the moment we received an on site proposal and guaranteed quote to the end of a two day overnight move, Uri and the entire staff were forthright, and solid. They were extremely careful with each piece of our furnishings, taking the time and care to wrap and unwrap. I could not have asked for a more thorough and efficient loading and unloading process. Multiple rooms, 2 trucks of lifelong furnishings , and not one item damaged or abused. Everything down to set up upon arrival to cleanup. The team went above and beyond to take an extra large Armoire up a tight turning 2 story stairwell. The cost was right in the middle of 3 received proposals, and well worth the stress and anxiety off our shoulders that was evident within the first 15 minutes of their in time arrival. Let me start by saying I've never hired a moving company before. I wasn't sure what to expect given the different horrors stories I've heard over the years from friends & family. After some research, I ended up speaking with Uri and it seemed like his company was the one for us. He made the beginning stages of the move seamless. Fast forward to moving day. The crew showed up on time and ready to go. They were incredibly upbeat and positive and just wanted to make the day easy on us. They were so smooth, quick, careful and efficient that I could not believe it. I was astonished. There wasn't a scratch, ding or dent on anything from beginning to end. We had our apartment cleared out and then they cleared out our storage unit in the same manner. When we got to the house, the guys kept up the pace. When we started planning our move from our house of 28 years, I contacted Uri at UMEX based on the excellent reviews I found on Yelp. I'm delighted now to add my own. We moved in 2 stages. The first round was to purge the house and prepare it for staging. The second was the full move to our new home. This meant we had to put a large quantity of our possessions in storage at UMEX for several months. Uri explained exactly how that would work and what the additional storage costs would be. We contacted three moving companies. Uri gave us a very competitive quote for the whole job, end to end. He was always available throughout the four month process and helped us stay sane when we wondered if we'd ever get through it all. Amanda and everyone on the crew both times were the best. Cheerful, careful with our possessions, and unfazed by any of the curve balls that come up emptying out a house of decades of accumulated stuff. You approached the move in a very businesslike manner after I sent you an E-mail outlining what needed to be done (From /To/Items to be moved and conditions of From residence and To residence). After one telephone discussion you forwarded me a quote that was agreed on. The quote and available date fit my requirements. The movers arrived on time with an advance call saying they were on the way. They did a great job packing /protecting and moving the furniture. They were very helpful/understanding and answering my questions. They arrived at the To location (Somerset, NJ) very promptly and proceeded with the move in process (including staging the movement of items from the truck to the lobby of the building and to the residence floor) to minimize tying up the elevator. I'm very happy with my experience with Umex movers through out the whole process. Working with Uri was easy and he worked with me to get the proper items listed for a quote. When I decided to reduce the amount of items (removing items I wanted to move on my own) he adjusted the quote accordingly with no issues. One of the most important things I feel when dealing with a moving company is that you aren't hit with fees after the move has been completed. I was assured that the price quoted would be all inclusive and no additional fees would be incurred. This held true and after the job was complete I paid the amount quoted. My first ever review is reserved for this wonderfully awesome moving company! They are so good, we used their services TWICE! My husband and I moved to Denmark temporarily and we used Umex to move our belongings to a nearby storage unit. Mari, who is prompt with emails and phone calls, visited our apartment to give us an estimate. When we returned 7 months later, Umex moved our belongings from the storage unit and into a new apartment on Dec. 24, 2014, which happened to be a very, very rainy day. The guys at Umex did at great job moving my mom in NJ from her home to an apartment. They arrived on time, and with great efficiency completed the move in a few hours. They wrapped everything well and packed it well. Unloading and moving the furniture into the apartment was quick and they were very helpful in position the items into the rooms where I wanted them.
