During my move, I was extorted by the crew (2 males). They cornered me out of everyone's ears and told me that they wanted to know how much tip I was going to pay them before they considered moving certain items. Specifically, they said they wouldn't move anything that's not in a box but if I would pay them good money they'd slip it in without their manager knowing. I was extremely tired from the stress of moving and simply didn't have the mental energy to cope with the extortion when it happened, so I let them extort me. I ended up paying 80 additional dollars in cash directly to them because I feared I'd have to deal with an incomplete move. After the move when I regained clarity, I was furious about their behavior. This was an outrageous misconduct and I'm enraged that these folks take advantage of people under stress. They should face consequences. It seems like the crew was doing this covertly, but just the fact that they hire such people is an unacceptable failure on the management's part. I cannot endorse a moving company that uses such unprofessional bullies as their crew. --------------------------- UPDATE: The manager Dimitris contacted me after the review and made an earnest effort to make amends for the incident. What happened is what happened, and I cannot change it. But I appreciate his effort and believe that the incident won't be repeated in the future, thus raising my score from 1 to 2. read more

Five stars for movers? How is that possible? Thankfully over the years I cannot say I have used that many different services but there was always something wrong. Things not handled correctly. Walls getting dinged. People not showing up on time. Worse yet, people not showing up at all. This, however, was a different experience! I got a text update morning of saying they were running a little late and they would arrive a little past their promised time. No worries! They kept me informed. Everyone was super nice to work with. (This was true for two separate times I needed to use them with different crews) From stuff out of storage units to large furniture pieces down and up tricky stairs -- to pinball machines that are super heavy and needed extra care everything went well. I think the hardest part about working with any mover is being accurate with what the scope of the job is going to be. For me I took pictures of the things I needed to get moved and simply sent them over to the company when I first used them since filling out a form with a room count was not going to translate well. Other services might be cheaper if I shopped around but I certainly will not be using anyone else if I need another NJ local move. read more

The team takes the time to carefully prepare furniture to be moved, giving you the peace of mind that your stuff will arrive in one piece. They even wrap up sofas in layers of plastic to protect them from damage. Not only are they careful, but they are also super efficient. Their movers are always super nice and helpful. Moving is never enjoyable. Moving is honestly such a tedious and often times time-sucking experience. However, I cannot express this enough. NJ Local Moving made moving so easy. They text you when they're on their way, pull up in front of your unit and immediately get to work. The rest of the moving isn't on you, you just have to let them know what to move. The team of 3 men were efficient, super sweet and conversational. They got my 2 bedroom apartment moved and unloaded in under 4 hours. Upon unloading into my new apartment, they put the boxes into the rooms they were supposed to be in their final destination. They arrived right when they said they would, introduced themselves, and were super friendly. We did a quick walk through of everything that was being moved and got right to it. I had an amazingly good experience with NJ local moving. Dimitri and his team, Michael and Cory, were friendly, professional and efficient. They were able to deconstruct and reconstruct several complex items quickly and perfectly. All of my items arrived in excellent condition. On top of everything, they were also very well priced. I had originally reserved their services to move me from a six bedroom house for a particular date. Due to an extreme emergency I had to move up my moving date by two weeks with only a few days notice. Dimitri bent over backwards to accommodate me. I cannot recommend NJ local moving more highly. With just one day to go before we moved to our new apartment, we zeroed in on NJ Local Moving. We had talked to at least 10 different movers, but Dimitri managed to put us at ease with his professional, calm and casual demeanor. The strong Yelp reviews, added to our decision. Come D-Day, they helped us pack all our big furniture, load and unload them at our new apartment. We had a 1 bedroom move, but had huge wooden furnitures in the living space. They managed it all. We truly appreciated the hard work they put behind the move. Very patient, calm, and accomodative movers. They even managed to move our 45 gallon fish tank without a scratch. I haven't used this company so I can't say how well they actually move, but I just called for a quote and was given a minimum cost of $600, which seems kind of crazy. I am not even moving any sofas, I have a mattress, console table and boxes. On moving day, I received an automated text message saying they were x minutes away and then received a call to make sure I knew they were on their way. When they got here, Michael, Jerome, and Sharif introduced themselves with smiles and good humor and went straight to work! They made the job look effortless. With only four days left before the move, Dimitri messages me to ask if my rental truck has a lift gate. I've had the truck reserved for weeks, but this late in the game, he needs me to make an adjustment (which wasn't possible btw). On top of that, there's confusion on his part because he didn't actually read the messages I sent him describing the work. Once I explain the work to him, he backs out of the job, leaving me scrambling to find a new mover at the height of the moving season. I'm sure that most of the positive reviews here are warranted, but do yourself a favor and make it very clear what it is you need, and don't make any assumptions - ask questions early, ask what they need. Because I didn't do this, I ended up with a lot of unnecessary anxiety days before my move. read more
