The staff is always very friendly, and efficient. The food is honestly about a 3.5 or 4 stars, depending on what you get. The hibachi is pretty consistently good, some of the rolls have been really tasty, but some are not very good (imo). I've also realized I'm not a fan of the imitation crab meat sticks that fill some of the sushi rolls, and sometimes the fried rolls, or rolls that have tempura-fried elements because they get very soggy if ordering pick-up, but can still be tasty, so that's more of an aesthetic thing. The tempura-fried rolls are probably fine if dining in the restaurant though. The restaurant always seems clean, and orderly. read more

Out of town and hungry. This steakhouse is Fair. We went based on Reviews in Yelp. A bit disappointed. The Prices are very reasonable but the quality of the Sushi rolls are "meh". The Miso soup was good. The fried rice had minimal steak and absolutely No Veggies!!! Soy helped. They did have a Habatchi grill but we opted not to sit on that side. Nastiest Japanese place I've eaten at. I think the only reason they're still in business is because they're the only Japanese option in the area. I've ordered take out three different times to see if it was just a one time issue and the quality of the food is horrible each time. The sushi tasted old, udon noodles were served with no vegetables the dish was just stale dry beef and the actual noodles, the hibachi was decent but the fried rice simply had rice and little to no vegetables. The food is amazing here. I have tried seating for 4 and Hibachi. The hibachi side is a great experience. The service is phenomenal and all Angel and Princess are on point with customer experience. My ONLY complaint is that you can only sit "at the bar" to order drinks or sit while you wait for a table. So no real "bar service". Not anything I can't live without, but the purpose of reviewing, I feel this is a good information piece. read more

Every time I have been here I have had a very enjoyable experience! The staff are friendly. We have always done the hibachi grill and it has always been delicious. We do the grill for the entertainment factor as well. I have never had their sushi and I cannot vouch for their sushi. One time I picked up hibachi for lunch and everything was packaged so well and included the sauces, salad, and miso soup. Even had a girls night out here one time and stayed probably a little too long at the grill and I am so appreciative of the staff that night for not giving any of us moms flack for visiting a bit. Food was good. However, they're down to one good and entertaining hibachi chef. All others go through the standard pieces, but one guy there is a true entertainer. I haven't been lucky enough to get him yet, so I don't know his name. Every table starts looking at him when he's entertaining his customers. Boy oh boy. I've been to Umi in Starkville for lunch once and I thought it was perfectly fine. My lady and I decided to get sushi on a Sunday evening and came here. Had a solid 45 minute wait to be seated. Hibachi was definitely busy this night. We ordered sushi and I ordered some sashimi. I received nigiri instead of sashimi and pointed it out. When I got my sashimi, it was still frozen. The rolls are OK but honestly, I'd rather just get it from Kroger for very similar, cheaper and more convenient. Just a bummer that it's one of very very few in the area but it's just not good. read more

Since the older gentleman passed their service has gone to crap. They tell you it will be 10 to 15 minutes and it is 30 or more. They sit you at the crappiest table in the house and when you asked to be moved to one of the open booths they have attitudes and tell you that you will have to wait 15 more minutes. The service was fine, and the ambiance okay, but the sushi is on par with an all you can eat buffet. I had 3 rolls and didn't enjoy any of them. The salmon was an unnatural red color, suggesting the farm it was raised at put food coloring into the feed. I'm not sure what they're doing wrong, but the sushi just wasn't good.
