We stopped in for dinner while doing student orientation for our son at Mississippi State. The school offered $10 off at participating restaurants, so we decided to give this one a try. Jacob P. Was our server and he was awesome. He explained the menu to us and gave us feedback on what he would recommend of the options we gave. He was constantly checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We started with the chips and queso. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Just your normal chips and queso. I had the catfish lagniappe and it was SUPERB! I loved the blackened catfish over the grits with the yummy crawfish sauce. The flavor combinations were on point and I throughly enjoyed every single bite! My husband had the Caribbean steak and really loved the flavor of the steak, but it was cooked a little more than the medium he asked for. The flavor made up for it though and he cleaned his plate. We both had the honey bacon brussel sprouts which were very tender and tasty as well. Pro tip, make sure to get all the yummy sauce that settles in the bottom. My son had the chicken Alfredo pasta along with a Caesar salad and he enjoyed his as well. If you're ever in the Starkville area, I highly recommend you give this place a try. read more

I was in town for a veterinary visit at MSU. My pup was busy with them so I ran a couple errands and found myself at Central Station Grill. I love this place. I chose to sit at the bar although booths were open. I cannot recall her name but the sweet girl behind the bar was great. I had access to a plug on the customer side of the bar as well as a hook for bags. *very nice touch for bar areas to have The vet called and had to leave and couldn't get food yet but was told to come back with my dog if he was released and didn't need surgery and enjoy the patio. ...... There I was. Again. I got the sliders. My dog hadn't eaten in a while due to fasting and they were so sweet to make a meal for him of an unseasoned patty and bacon. He didn't eat it there given his sedation and overstimulation but once we were in the hotel, he gobbled it up! Brittany and her super cool heart shaped glasses are the best. (It said Brittany on the check so I hope that is right!) She is amazing! If we have to come back to MSU, I am coming back here for the food and my new friends. These shrimp are a huge delight. I ordered a lunch to my mistake and added a little Texas Pete, #BattleBorn! From my mistake, order the dinner. I'm concerned that there not getting the full usage of the shrimp. Its battered and seasoned perfectly and a po'boy wasn't a option on the menu. While visiting State, we decided to try the Central Station Grill. The service was incredible. It was the best experience we have had in Starkville! Lamonte, our server, knew the menu and specials well and handled our party of 6 without any issues. We had a wide array of entrees, and the fried cheese appetizer was awesome. There was a great selection of bourbons and seasonal specialty drinks that were expertly crafted. There was plenty of parking, and the interior was super clean and nicely decorated. I've grown up coming to eat at this place for a long time and it's still just as good as it was then. The fried cheese is so good - I like the pepper jack ones better than the mozzarella because it's creamier. Served with ranch or marinara sauce. My other favorite thing to order is the steak skewers. You can get them as an appetizer with fries or you can get them as an entrée. The app comes with two and the entrée comes with four. They also heat up really well if you end up taking some home. Another thing that I really like is the spring rolls, but I didn't order those this time. I haven't explored their cocktail menu, but my brother did get some type of chocolatey drink that was really good. All in all, this place is consistent at least for the past 10+ years it has been. two things I noticed that aren't on the menu anymore is the soup and the Ahi tuna salad :(( I understand things changed though, but I did love those items as well. We visited today for our second time. The first visit my family of 6 went to the Grill and we all ordered but they left off one of our orders of chicken tenders and didn't bring them until everyone had finished their meal. Today we went back to give them another chance and they failed. Once we got the meal, we seen a large pregnant roach on the wall behind our heads. I instantly felt sick. My husband went and got the server which brought the manager. All stopped eating and stood up away from the table. Most of our dinners were still plated. The manager said she called the GM and they instructed her to complete the appetizer which was not a satisfying resolution. We told her to go back to the GM and let them know we unable to continue eating. She came back and told us that she would comp 50% @ 88.07. We gave her 112.00. I then requested the receipt to see the charges and once it was reviewed I told her the charges were not correct. The correct amount is attached 49.99. In conclusion we did not get to ear our meal, subjected to roaches in the restaurant and deceived by the manager for price of meal. Terribly experince! read more

Used to be a favorite. Food has gone down hill and tonight service was very poor. I counted 8 servers and our waitress had us and a table of 8 . So I stopped 2 guys to say we needed to send our steak back- one who was too busy going to sit in booth and do something on his computer other did nothing . After getting other tables order our waitress helped. Used to be the manager always checked on you. Used to be anyone would be glad to help. I've been a couple of times now and unfortunately probably won't be back. First time was for brunch on Sunday and most recently an early Saturday dinner following the football game. The ability to check-in via the Yelp app is great and had essentially no wait both times after arriving at the time suggested. On both visits we had the Panko-Crusted Fried Cheese with both Mozzarella and Pepper Jack. It is probably the main reason my daughter likes this place and is really good. Nice and crispy outside and warm & gooey inside. The first visit I chose the Chicken & Waffles. It comes with 3 hand-breaded chicken tenders and 2 thick Belgian waffles. You get a choice of bourbon-pecan maple syrup or country-style sausage gravy. I chose to try both since I have never had the gravy with chicken & waffles before. I actually liked both options equally and depending on your preference of savory or sweet I don't think you can go wrong with either. The most recent visit I chose the Ribeye Sandwich (Angus beef on sourdough with lettuce, tomato & mayo) with a side of the Smoked Gouda & Jalapeño Grits instead of French Fries. I asked for it to be prepared medium and part of it was much closer to medium rare but I didn't want to wait for it to be fixed. It was clearly visible from the cut and should have been corrected before it was brought out from the kitchen. The grits lacked much of a cheese flavor and were quite dry, not creamy like you would expect of cheese grits. Would not recommend them at all. My daughter and son both decided to get the Veggie Cheeseburger and Fries on this visit. Neither arrived with cheese. This has happened on at least 2-3 other occasions when my vegetarian daughter has ordered before. Clearly a kitchen or ordering system issue when the vegetarian patty is selected. This time the server carried it back to the kitchen and brought it back corrected. One of the other occasions the server brought out the cheese on a plate with the paper still attached and my daughter didn't realize it until after she slid in onto the burger and started to take a bite. I don't recall what everyone else had the first visit but everyone seemed to enjoy. The first visit the service was ok, the most recent visit serviced left a lot to be desired. Orders were taken quickly and the food arrived timely. After correcting the burgers the server did not check on us again until everyone else was finished despite waiting on other tables nearby. I was waiting on a drink refill to finish my sandwich. I tried multiple times to get her attention and was not able to even when she was at the table next to us because she kept her back turned the whole time. For the most part the flavor and taste of the food is great. I try to take into account that many places are short staffed but inattentiveness when there are opportunities is just bad service and consistently having issues with the same items being incorrect is a big problem. read more

Choo Choo, we are here for lunch #HailState I am originally from Starkville so it's nice to try local spots. We see this place every trip up but never have time to stop, glad we did! Super tastefully decorated restaurant in the old train depot in downtown StarkVegas. Very nice bar at the door opening is where we sat. We were waiting on family to get in town and stopped for an appetizer and drinks. Server was a little busy when we initially sat down (holiday shorthandedness) but did immediately greet and welcome us. Super nice staff! Cheese sticks were some of the best I have had. You can pick to have Mozzarella, Pepper Jack or mix half and half. We chose half and half to see what the Pepper Jack was about. Sooooo creamy, smooth and flavorful. Also served with a side of house made ranch and marinara. For the bevs, because holiday time calls for those too, we chose the Old Fashioned (a little to sweet), Cucumber Lime (lots of citrus flavor ) and the Bramble.
