Durango's Mexican Restaurant - Taco Plate plus a $4 up charge for Beef fajita. And you get 3-4 small pieces per taco. I'm not mad. Just disappointed.

I like to measure the authenticity of a Mexican restaurant based on their Barbacoa taco and Durango…read morenailed it. Meat was not fatty and perfectly seasoned - slightly salty. Went through the drive thru so it was different that they asked us to come back in 15 minutes.

Okay, my second review for them: Durango's is still probably the closest thing to REAL Mexican food…read morethat I've found since moving to Texas. in 2004! I know, I know ... I'm in Texas. Texas + Mexican food = TexMex. It's just not my thing. I'm a California girl and grew up with real Mexican food. Plus numerous trips to Mexico (from border towns to Mexico City to Cancun). Nowhere in Mexico (or California) have I had chili poured over everything in place of enchilada sauce or mole. And Durango's is the only place I've had an enchilada (meat, cheese or otherwise) that is NOT covered in chili. Service has always been good, even when I've been a bit choosy. Which I know I can be. Chips are the best in town, hands down. Prices are very reasonable. AND, they have a drive thru window that is very convenient. But, call your order in first. It's always been ready when I get there to pick up. There is also a discount for cash. If I have one negative, it's for the temperatures on the beans and rice. Definitely need to be warmer. I prefer mine very hot, so this is the only place they loose a star.

Came here for dinner on a Friday around 5:30 and luckily had no issues getting a nice outdoor table…read morefor our large party, and we were able to enjoy the live music right in front of us. Our server Keyoni was great, there were some hiccups with missed drinks a couple times, but overall he did great and the best that he could handling our big group. The views were super nice and they even had little seating areas in the turf area, which was perfect for our kids to play around after they ate. The food was amazing here, and I didn't have one bad bite! The queso and the guacamole in the Creek House chip trio was so good. The truffle parmesan fries were nice and crispy, and I loved the garlic aioli on the side. Even our kids' macaroni and cheese was delicious, I was eating the leftovers as a side with my own meal! I picked the smoked and shaved beef sandwich, which had really good flavor and very tender meat. I really liked the cucumber salad on the side because it was different than your typical side of fries or regular salad. It was light and refreshing! I had bites of the redfish and the pork chop also, which are two dishes that I wouldn't normally order myself but they were both amazing bites! It was the juiciest pork chop I had ever eaten before. I paired my meal with a house blackberry soda, which was refreshing. My only regret is that I didn't have room for dessert! Overall it was a great pick for a Friday night family dinner!

Live music in the background set the perfect ambience for the evening. Our server, Matt, made the whole experience -- no AI could have crafted a more perfect waiter. From start to finish, he was spot-on: his wine suggestions, his appetizer recommendation, and the wine pairing he chose for our main course were all perfect. It was disappointing to learn that the next day would be his last with the restaurant -- he was truly an asset. We'll be back next month, though whoever serves us next has a lot to live up to. The food itself was outstanding too -- perfectly seared shrimp and grits with sweet corn and blistered tomatoes, fried green tomatoes topped with crab and avocado, and a hearty steak sandwich with crispy fries. Every dish was as memorable as the service.

I have come here 4 times now and I am obsessed with this restaurant. I am difficult to please but…read morethis place has everything: free chips and salsa that are actually fresh, eggs cooked accurately to order, menu variety and they're good at all of it, sweet AND unsweet tea (both good), a queso that doesn't congeal instantly, man-sized portions, flavorful beans...and you can eat like crazy for like $25/person. Their salsa is what I like most: spicy enough to make my scalp sweat but not so spicy that I can't taste my food. Normal flavor, no avant garde nonsense. Chips are always fresh and they refill both. The salsa refill comes from an ihop syrup pitcher, as salsa refills always should. They also understand that I'm there to eat. As a native Texan, I only go out for Tex Mex when I have a terrifying hunger and thirst that my own reasonable home cooking cannot satisfy. I may want many disparate things. I may want to describe a plate of food I dreamed about. They're cool with that here. This is not a militant "no substitutions" place. You can add whatever to whatever. Last time I was there we got so weird with it that I had to hold an à la carte plate off the table until we finished what was on it because we ran out of room. Today, my table ordered huevos rancheros, a taco salad, an enchilada plate, and a bacon cheeseburger and every single dish came out together, not from a warmer, and they were ALL really good. I do not live near this restaurant and I think about it wistfully at night all the time.
