This review for the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Women's Hospital is being written from the observer's point of view. We drove our daughter the three hours from the Wilmington area if NC to Chapel Hill for scheduled surgery. Her check in time was 5:30am for the first surgery of the day. The bad news was this meant we had to hit the road by 2 am. The good news meant that we missed the rush hour traffic in the Raleigh-Dufham area. The first part of the hospital experience started with parking. There is a large parking garage with ample parking directly across from the hospital. Inside the garage it has good signage directing you to the correct cat walk to get you right to the front door of the hospital. 5 stars Entering the main entrance to the hospital was very organized. You first encountered a table with face masks for the taking and signage reminding face masks are required in the facility. The same table had a large pump bottle with hand sanitizer for use. After face masks are applied the patient and transportation members walk straight forward to other great signage that advises the patient to take a number and watch the television screen on the wall for their number to appear. This area had plentiful seating that was spread throughout the area so there was space among the groups of patients. 5 stars When the number appeared on the screen it advised the patient which registration booth to go to. You could tell this was a large capacity facility by the number of registration booths they had running at one time. Our daughter went and completed her registration without much difficulty as much of the information was taken prior to the day if surgery. It was mostly showing id, insurance card, and signing paperwork. At the end of the registration she was given a paper map with directions of how to get to the surgery location. She was also given paperwork to hand to the check in location. 5 stars After following the directions and hiking thru the hospital we easily located the surgery check in location. Once again this process was very organized so they could handle the massive number of patients seen. Apparently there are eleven surgical rooms that are routinely being used at any one time. After turning in the registration paperwork our daughter was given a paper to hand off to us. On one side it had a number assigned uniquely to her and the opposite side had a color system so you could follow your patient and see what stage of the surgical process they were in. As family we were instructed to find seats in this waiting area and watch the screen on the wall that would post our daughter's unique number and be shaded with the color coating system. We were also advised that during the prep time one person could go into the prep area and be with her. I did this when advised she was in the stage that a member could be with her. 5 stars In the prep area there was a white board that contained her name, current vitals, and the surgical team members that would be checking in with her. After each person made their contact the nurse in charge of her particular case would x off that the step was completed. Example, the surgical nurse, the anesthesiologist, the surgeon, etc. Once the seven or eight people were checked off she was advised she was ready to have surgery. 5 stars I proceeded out to the waiting room and joined my husband. Whoever came up with the color coded system was a genius. It was very reassuring to follow our daughter through the stages of surgery and recovery. At the end the surgeon and his resident located us in the waiting area and informed us about the surgery and what to expect afterwards. They were very thorough but easy to understand. I could understand why our daughter liked this doctor. 5 stars After this step we were both allowed to join our daughter until she was released. Due to the length of time in this process it was now lunch time so the staffing was minimal. It took a fair amount of time for the person to show up with the wheelchair to take her to the front door. The gentleman was very polite and stopped with our daughter at the pharmacy for her prescriptions. At this point my husband went to the garage to retrieve our vehicle and drive up to the front door to load our daughter and myself. After loading up we were ready to hit the road for the long trip back to her house. 5 stars Thanks for providing such a good experience for such a specialized procedure. HORRIBLE place! I was scheduled for an appointment even though I was out of network, I said I'll pay out of pocket, they proceeded to schedule me an appointment that I had to wait six months for, only to be called and left a voicemail three weeks before my appointment saying that they were going to cancel due to updated BS insurance policies and there was no other option, wham bam done, even when I again told them I would pay out-of-pocket, they did NOTHING to correct this. At least honor the appointments that were already booked!! Absolutely disgusting, disgraceful, terrible practice. UNC Chapel Hill should be ashamed of themselves! Thanks for nothing! read more

We took a family member to UNC chapel hill. The parking and traffic are handled efficiently. The information desk directs you to the right area and there are plenty of signs as well. We have been to UNC hillsborough and Cone in Burlington. UNC is much better as a teaching hospital. However the gift shop requires a $5. Min purchase so there should be more vending machines available. Our family member has been getting good care here for his liver. A good hospital. read more

Most disorganized hospital. They have the same amount of people that use to take your information but now they point you to a computer to input everything. Then you have to take a number to check in. Then you check in. Then you have to stand in a line for another person to check what you entered on the computer. Then you wait more to be called back. And people complain about the government taking away funds. They don't need more money. If you keep the same amount of people, then you don't need the check in computers. If you use the computers layoff the people. read more

UNC only shows a ne part of the hospital and they have not even tried to update the old part of there hospital and they should make it look like the new part of there hospitals to make all patient comfortable because you're showing everyone these new parts of the hospital, but you're not showing them the downgrade of the hospital and it seems like to me most hospitals that I have been in have refurbished. Their old wings are the old part of the hospital and it's sad that you have not upgraded these rooms yet read more

My husband went in for eye surgery at UNC Chapel Hill on June 6th. Staff failed to take post surgery concerns seriously which resulted in permanent blindness in one eye. Despite multiple attempts to address this through appropriate channels, the hospital has refused to take responsibility. We feel abandoned and betrayed. I want others to be aware of our experience before choosing this facility. read more

My visit was from 07/02/2025 to 07/03/2025. Be very careful, take videos, and get paperwork and acknowledgements from the care team before you leave the hospital. They will charge you for things that you declined service on or for things they tell you are no charge. I declined to take the hospital ambulance from the Hillsborough ER to the Main Hospital because I was okay to drive and because I didn't want to pay the bill for the transport. The staff assured me that I wouldn't be charged and said, "it's like changing from one room to another. It's a within hospital transfer so I won't be charge". Then weeks later I get charged with a $1600 bill from an ambulance company. Not only did they lie but they also outsourced the ambulance company that wasn't in my network so I'd be billed more. The billing department said they can't do anything because they didn't send me the bill and I didn't take their ambulance. Their patient relations team pretty much said, it's my fault for thinking anything is free and that I shouldn't take the word or their staff. I also declined OT and PT because I was trying to reduce costs. The doctors asked if I would just talk to their OT and PT for a second and I wouldn't be charged and he would put it in his notes that I declined OT and PT. I got charged for both, and the doctor didn't put it in his notes so I couldn't even pull it up from the medical records as proof of refusal of services. The staff smiles and acts like they care but don't be fooled. Look out for yourself and don't trust anyone in the building no matter how kind they act towards you. Don't bother calling patient relations because they will act like they want to helps and will do everything they can when you get off the phone with them but they'll just send you an email a few days later laying nothing can be done. It's a waste of time trying to resolve things with them if you don't have the proof or do your due diligence to protect yourself before leaving the hospital. Only solution after the fact is hiring a lawyer. read more

i've had to visit UNCH clinics several times recently. in my opinion, the best thing about it is the niceness of the staff ,,l it's a totally overwhelming place for my 80-year old self on my own but almost to the person, staff want to help. Can't be as positive about other qualities. read more

There is one physician in the ER who lacks empathy and bed side manner. She speaks to people as if they are not people and if our concern is not important to her. She wears pinkish scrubs (not the nurse aide scrubs). She needs to really be checked on her professionalism. The ER is no place for her. read more

Women referred to UNC for follow-up from breast exams: BEWARE! I was scammed by this hospital. After speaking to people in my community, I found that this is a scam they have been perpetrating for years. This hospital is preying on women who are scared by breast exam results and getting them to pay $3000 for a completely arbitrary procedure (they will say they want to "tag" your lump for "further analysis"). What they mean is they want to implant a tag into your breast so that, if, for some reason after this experience, you return to UNC in the future, they can find it easily. This procedure does not do anything to assess your breast lump. It is a completely pointless procedure that you do not need. They are going to try and scare you into agreeing to it. They use it as "training" for new doctors (another part of the saga that was consistent with all others I spoke to who had this done). This hospital is charing women $3000 to train their doctors. Again- this "tag" is of no medicinal value and does nothing to prevent or diagnose breast cancer / malignancy in lumps. Once the procedure was done, the real nightmare began. The doctor never responded to me regarding the results of my biopsy (which is the only thing I should have consented to. They made it sound like it was all one procedure, but you can opt out of the tag and just get get lab work). This procedure was over 2 years ago. I still, to this day, have not heard back about my results, even after reaching out multiple times. All she did was post the medical-jargon result in my "MyChart," a hopelessly frustrating app which UNC will refer you to and then blame YOU when it is insufficient with documentation regarding your payments. This hospital continues to play games with their billing procedures. They send separate bills for different parts of your charges, which is really confusing. Again, the MyChart app is no help in making your bills more clear. It is clearly purposeful- they make it hard to understand your bill, so they can send you to collections. On the MyChart app, it may say that all of your accounts are "Paid off," but they might have sent a balance to collection, which you cannot ever find a record of in the MyChart. They are intentionally allowing people to think that they have paid their balances, while still sending them to collections. Then, while the collection agency seems pretty familiar with this run-around, UNC will do absolutely nothing to help you prove you paid. It is a clearly thought-out. It is clearly intentional. This is something they are actively doing to take advantage of the fear instilled in women when we get referred to them, knowing we are scared. Knowing we do not know what to do. Knowing we will say "yes" when the doctor says "what I want to do is..." Please ask you radiologist to refer you elsewhere is you have a breast lump / abnormality. read more

went to urgent care on Thursday 11/21 for severe abdominal pain, and was sent via ambulance to UNC Hospital around 1 pm. After 5 hours in the emergency room crying and begging for pain medicine, I was told I had an inflamed gallbladder with stones that required surgical removal within 24 hours. As it was 6 pm, I was told that type of surgery is not done at night, and had to wait until the morning. I waited another 5 hours in the ER to be moved to a hospital room, where I was told I had to fast for the surgery - no food or drink, not even water, after midnight. I waited all morning, and all afternoon; every time I asked when the surgery was going to be, I was told the surgeons were busy. Then I was told surgery was scheduled for 11 pm. Then at 2 am, I was told they didn't mean 11 pm (Friday), they meant 11 am the next day (Saturday), so I had to keep fasting. I waited all morning and afternoon Saturday with no answers. I tried to call patient relations, but they are closed on the weekends. I was finally taken down to surgery around 4 pm, which was painful with all the bumps and bad flooring. I went through pre-op and was made to wait for over 3 hours for the anesthesiologist, who apparently they only had 5 of in the whole hospital, and they were all busy, even though the surgeon, Dr. Booker King, was sitting around doing nothing waiting for them. Around 7 pm, the Operating Room nurse Edna Libouten rudely told us the surgery could not be done tonight and we had to go back to our hospital room. I was transported back, which was painful, only to be returned to the Operating Room in less than an hour. I finally went into surgery at 8 pm on Saturday. I was told it would be a 1-2 hour surgery, but did not get out until 5 hours later, which greatly worried my family and friends who were waiting for news. My girlfriend was forced to wait for me in a locked room without access to food or water until after 1 am. I was told that after the surgery, I would be monitored for 8 hours or overnight, then sent home. On Sunday morning, a surgical team that did not perform my surgery came to my room to report how the surgery went, and they noted how badly infected my gallbladder looked, which was probably due to waiting 3 days for a surgery that was supposed to happen within 24 hours. I was told my bloodwork showed high white blood cell count, which indicated possible infection, and so needed to stay on IV antibiotics at the hospital for another day, and then get blood drawn again in the morning, and if the white blood cell count looked good, I was safe to go home. But Monday morning, the nurse said the blood draw was cancelled because there are only 3 phlebotomists in the whole hospital and they are too busy. The nurse said she assumed my white blood cell count went down without evidence, but I would be sent home with antibiotics. I confirmed several times that I could pick this up at the hospital pharmacy, and they said yes. When I finally got to the pharmacy on the other side of the hospital, they told me my prescriptions had been sent to my room. By the time I finally got the bag, I didn't realize the promised antibiotics were missing until I got home. It is now Tuesday afternoon and I am still fighting to obtain the antibiotics for an urgent health issue that began, along with the fasting, last Thursday. read more

I felt my care, such as it was, was negligent. I went in for a strangulated hernia and obstructed bowel. I was in pain. A lot. It took hours to get into a filthy cubicle, then I lay there writing in pain because the staff would "order pain meds" and wander away for 1/2 hour until my family member went and reminded them I still was getting no pain relief. Then they would administer something, not into my iv so I could get constant pain relief, but into the port. Rush of pain relief for 20-30 min. I still had not been admitted to the ER. Repeat this torture, sprinkled with CT scans, ultrasounds etc that were done with no explanation, and you will see why 14 hours of this "treatment" had tears uncontrollably running down my face for literally hours. I am surprised, because they shut off my IV for hours from time to time, and I was never allowed to have a sip of water or an ice chip. I got seriously dehydrated, which the kidney Dr. was not pleased about. So about 13 hours after I got to the ER I finally met with a Dr. We need to manually push the impacted bowel back thru a little hole in your abdominal wall. I had had morphine earlier, and so they dove in and pressed and squished with me nearly passed out in pain. Huh, that didn't work, let's "let you rest"for a minute, then we'll give you a hella shot of morphine, we'll stuff that bowel back in place and you can GO HOME. Really? Of course it didn't work, of course it was a pain worse than childbirth. The hard part was realizing that doctors inflicted this pain needlessly on my body. One more attempt was made around 1 am (remember it had already been 15 hours that I had actually been under their care by this point). Ketamine was then used to sort of knock me out while again they tried to push the bowel back thru the pencil hole. Of course that was unsuccessful. At around 3:30 am, I was rushed into emergency surgery, and by 5:30 am, I finally had a room. The whole thing in the ER will likely cause me to seek counseling, I have flashbacks to laying doubled over crying on that gurney and the pain is all I can remember - that, and no one would help me. The pain was incredible as was the lack of response from people whom you have to trust. In my opinion the care I received in this ER, was negligent. Staff were running everywhere, they were obviously too busy to provide adequate care to the patients. Pain relief, which should have been addressed constantly, was only sporadically attended to, the length of time it took to actually see a Dr. who did anything, was extremely long, not providing hydration to a patient who has been writhing in pain for a half of a day is cruel (I understand they don't want you to have surgery if you've been drinking loads of fluid, but this could have been handled much differently). I wish someone had just told me, we are overwhelmed and unable to adequately provide patient care, please go somewhere else. I would have and I will. I'll never go back to this facility by bchoice. You should not either. read more

I had hand burn from a kitchen fire and I was taken to UNC health to deal with the burn. The care provided by the doctor was OK/appropriate. However, the nurse wasn't particularly good at what they were doing. The doctor advice moving my hand to stretch my skin as it heals. For this, the wrap around my hand should be not too tight and should also account for the movement. The job done at the hospital does neither of these. They were too tight such that I couldn't move my fingers very easy and whenever I do, the wrapping would also shift significantly with gap opening in it and expose the wound to air. I had to redo the wrapping right after I got home after I realize this was the problem (the first two times had similar issues but I didn't realize it at the time). And what's worse is the billing department. I had to make some calls with my insurance to clear things out and by that time I was already billed and paid for more than what I needed to pay. When I contacted the hostpical about getting my money back, they basically ignored my previous payment and said that I had to pay for the amount that I needed to pay again. They also said in their message that I should feel free to contact them if I have more questions yet the reply button is disabled. Edit: Oh, and I only remembered this again after seeing the other reviews. I came in an ambulance and then I was left there without anything what so ever for a few hours before someone came to look at me. I was literally left in a hallway and the person that pushed me there just left without saying a single word. read more

UNC Chapel Hill is a machine with so many processes they absolutely dehumanize patients. Nothing is easy. Their Customer Service sucks. And the non-existent escalation process is unacceptable. I've been having billing issues with UNC Chapel Hill since I arrived in the Spring of 2020. I've escalated and have gotten nowhere. I told Customer Service that I wanted to write a letter directly to whoever was in charge of all of UNC Medical and I was told there was no one person. I asked who the Departments reported to - example, who does neurology, gastro, ENT, etc report to. I was told "no one". I asked for contact info. for the Board of Directors and I was told there wasn't one. How is it possible that there is no one person or no Board of Directors for Patients to forward complaints to? In addition to billing issues there have been Customer Service issues, in the specialists practice as well as in Customer Service department and I am being told there's no way to escalate. Again... how is that possible? I've never spoken to more unhappy, unpleasant, "meh", people in the past 20 years of non-stop medical treatment as I have in the past year and a half at UNC Chapel Hill. Referrals only, that's the only way you can get your foot in the door. Does it get any more pretentious than this? I've lived in 7 states and have seen the best Doctors around the country all with just a phone call and that includes several teaching hospitals. I had a referral. It expired. I was told to get a new one. I did - same day I was told, I got a new one from a Doctor in UNC. I called the specialist back to make an appointment because I had updated referral and I was told it had to be reviewed and somebody would get back to me in 7-10 days. AYFKM??? I was already accepted into the specialist department, the referral expired, you told me to get a new one, I did - same day, and now you're putting me off 7-10 days??? And appointments are scheduling more than THREE months out!!! WTF is your problem??!! read more

My mom had difficulty breathing so an ambulance brought her to the University of North Carolina (UNC) Hospital Emergency Room (ER).  It took 6 hours for the doctor to get bloodwork and an X-ray done.  They kept her on a stretcher in the ER hallway for 8 hours insisting that the curtain makes it a room. It took hours of complaining before they moved her out of the hallway and into an ER room.  Many patients spend the entire time in the hallway partially blocking the passage, with a curtain barely big enough to cover the stretcher. They found blood clots in her lung and decided to admit her.  However, the hospital did not have a room available so they got her a room in another UNC hospital, but it took them 6 hours to coordinate her transfer and transportation.  I offered to take her mysekf but they would not allow it. In all, we spent 12 hours in the UNC Emergency room. I have never before experience such substandard facilities and lack of urgency at a hospital Emergency Room.  Besides being a disservice to patients, UNC Hospital's ER reflects poorly on UNC and on the state of NC. read more

I am so disappointed in the psych unit at UNC Hospital. My Mom was there a week and a half. When I went to visit my Mom, the nurses were so ugly to the patients and let my Mothers roommate fall. They did nothing for my Mother. I visited my Mother on Christmas and she acted out and the next day they called saying she could go home. Really? UNC is suppose to be a great place to take a love one no matter what the circumstance is. I couldn't believe it. I do hope the nurses have at least started watching the patients more carefully so they wont fall and are more sympathetic to the patients needs. Hopefully they can at least do that since they can't do anything else. read more

First, let me preface this with the fact that I worked in a "rural" regional hospital for 23 years, 20 of which were on an surgical, primarily orthopedic, floor. I am not unfamiliar with the processes. My daughter was in a car accident and was airlifted to UNC for trauma care with a severe ankle/tibia fracture. She arrived at around 615p and I arrived around 630p. She was in a c-collar and was returning from CT upon my arrival. We were moved to 4 different rooms within the ED before we were finally admitted around 330a. In that entire time, I did not see a single doctor until nearly midnight. The only thing that doctor said was we had to wait on ortho. No information. I asked several people if she could remove the collar as she was not complaining of any pain in her head or neck and they said they would check the CT scan. No one ever answered me, but they did come back and take her for a second CT around midnight. When we finally got to the 4th room in the ED, the Ortho Resident came in to set her ankle and splint it. No pain meds prior, and I HAD TO HELP HIM DO IT! That was the most horrible thing a mother can witness, but to have to hold her leg while she is writhing in pain?! You have got to be kidding me. When 330a rolls around and we are finally going to her room on 5 Bedtower, they come in to move her (4th different nurse as well) and I ask for probably the 10th time if the collar can come off, and they said, "oh, sure." They also at that time finally put a gown on her. She was naked until that point. We get to her room at around 330a and they give her a bath! Timing is everything. At 545a, a different resident comes in and tells us that they are going to do surgery and out a metal plate and screws in her left near her ankle. He explains what the surgery will be like and we are all set. They call for her to go to surgery, a couple of hours earlier than expected (yay) at around 1030a. While in preoperative, the actual surgeon comes in and starts explaining that she is going to be putting in a rod and nail to make the repair. When I asked why we weren't doing the plate and screws as was explained earlier, she rolled her eyes and told me that was her resident. SHE was the surgeon, and this was what she was going to do. Surgery was supposed to take 2 hours with an hour in recovery. Now, as I said, I understand the process, but after over 3 hours, we still had not heard anything. I asked her nurse, and she said she didn't know. I had to be very persistent in getting them to call and get an update. Finally, and rather conveniently, I got a call from the surgeon about 20 minutes later that she had done well. Then, nothing else for over 4 hours! NOTHING! Her 3 hour surgical process took over 8 hours. She got back to her room at nearly 730p! The next morning, yet another resident came in at around 545a. This is now the 4th different ortho we have seen. He looked at her cast, said everything looked good and left. Overall, the nursing staff was excellent, but they are terrible at communicating with us and with each other it seems. The 2nd night after her surgery, we asked for pain medicine 4 times and it was almost 3 HIURS before she got it. So much for staying ahead of the pain. Oh, and each time we asked for meds, we also asked for a potty break. That didn't happen either. And, when it did happen, the CNA emptied her bed pan, turned off the bathroom light, and then checked her temp and blood pressure without changing his gloves. Totally gross...especially in a fresh post-op patient. The nurses missed every opportunity to educate my daughter and those of us that would be caring for her. She received lovenox injections to help prevent blood clots, but as they didn't communicate anything about her care, we had no idea she'd be going home on lovenox. They could have been showing us how to do that each morning so we would be comfortable when the time came. Also, a fresh, non-weight bearing post-op did not have an incentive spirometer the entire stay, but they sent her home with one. Very poor care and planning. For a teaching hospital, every single opportunity for teaching the patient and family was missed. The "orthopedic" nurses didn't even understand what surgery she had had. I had to explain it from my own working experience. They didn't know what to do with the dressings or anything else. Then, when we were FINALLY discharged, the "Discharge Nurse" was not an ortho nuse and had to call the NP on call to find out if we should do dressing changes. Even I knew the answer to that! The morning of discharge, the same resident as theorizing before came in at 545a. At least we finally saw the same one twice! He said she could go home after PT. We saw PT at roughly 11a. It is now 602p and we are still waiting to leave! I have never seen such inefficiency and poor patient care in all my years! There are so many other things... I like the UNC doctors. They are caring and always helpful. Having said that their IT and the IT procedures suck and are awful, awful and awful. I went to UNC feeling sick and their urgent care test showed that I had covid. Used UNC MyChart to set up an eVisit or Virtual Care. What is the difference? No idea and don't care when you have Covid with fever. To make the appointment I had to answer a lot of questions, including picture of my insurance card, all of which they already have in myChart provide for years. While with fever and coughing I answered their stupid questions again. finally I got a call from a doctor who gave a prescription. She was very efferent and caring and more than helpful. UNC has great medical doctors and medical services. However, their IT implementation needs to get throw out. They need a new IY solution designed for human consumption. read more

I have been here a handful of times over the last 10 years. It is pretty chaotic but the staff is ready to help and have maps they draw on for you to help, which is basically the only way I didn't get lost. I go to the transplant department and have always loved the staff in there. The only reason I am deducting a star is because the MRI team was terrible. I told the nurse my IV was hurting terribly and instead of moving it they pushed two rounds of morphine (which hurts so, so bad) and left it in. I have now had phlebitis for 16 days and my vein is still hard and tender. Also, use valet parking. Trust me. read more

In 2021, after a robotic surgery at Duke, I ended up back in the UNC ER in severe septic shock with a lacerated colon. These people saved my life! My odds of surviving until discharge were only 6.7% but here I am back to normal thanks to the UNC staff and I will be forever grateful! read more

There's a reason a "World Class Hospital and University" has an emergency department rating of 1.5/5 stars across every review site and social platform. Real life sick and injured people are trying to warn anyone that will listen about how awful this place truly is. I am desperate to name and shame some of the particular nastier nurses and doctors but I'm sure I don't have to scroll far to find them in these reviews, so I won't. Our dog gets better treatment from his vet than my five year old terrified and sick kid did here. Absolutely abhorrent and shameful that this place could call itself five star ANYTHING. The ER is disgusting, dirty and just gross! My mother had surgery here one month ago. Now due to complications her doctor told us to go to the ER so she could be admitted. He spoke to the head nurse, told her what was going on, that she needed to be admitted, etc. we get here and are told that it doesn't matter if the Dr wants her admitted, she still has to wait hours to be seen. So now a 75 yr old woman who's dying from cancer is laying on a bench in pain. Good job UNC!! read more

I give 1,000,000 stars. My dad recently went into ICU from a care facility, he was 97 years old. He had always been very sharp and had a sudden turn for the worse and lost his ability to talk. The facility treated him with the utmost respect. They made him so comfortable and kept him warm and comfortable. During the hardest time of my brother's and I life, they eased our pain. He was put on hospice and they were always transparent and honest with us. My dad passed at 1:00 in the morning and they allowed us to stay as long as we needed. They then put me on hold for a very long time, then disconnected me. If you're going to call me, have someone on the line to talk to me. This ER is a disgrace to the UNC name. It's horribly dirty and deteriorating. The staff except for the Drs could care less about you. You wait 5+ hours with 1/2 the waiting room full. Will travel further away to another ER in the future. With so many negative experiences I do not understand the lack of desire to fix this place! read more

I have been going to my doctor, Jon Corey, for several years and have been very happy with him and his staff. I can't say the same thing about UNC as a healthcare system though! Every year when I get my physical, they attempt to charge me $35.00 as a deductible. The affordable care act says that I am eligible to get a "comprehensive" physical every year at no cost to me. The insurance company (Aetna) disagrees with Dr. Corey that some portion of a panel of blood tests is medically necessary. Dr. Corey says that it is and that in his professional opinion that I should have that particular test. I reached out to UNC Healthcare to get their assistance and was blown off. If given a choice in hospitals, I can guarantee you I won't go to UNC! read more

Everyone has their own experience. But, this place (SICU and MICU) literally save my mum's life. We found the nurses to be extremely comforting, professional, knowledgeable and attentive. Same with the doctors. Everyone took the time to answer any questions and gave great responsive care. Maybe if I took the time to look harder I could find imperfections, but my mum is alive and recovering and would not have been if she didn't get transported here when she did. read more

First off, let's put the bulk of the blame where it belongs; moron anti-vaxxers who eschew common sense health care, but go running to the ER like frightened little children when they get covid. As a result of their ignorance all the beds were full! They should be turned away at the door and sent home. Period. That having been said, this ER was a disgrace! I spent 15 hours in the most disgusting place I've ever been in my life and I am 60. I've spent 2 years staying home and and wearing masks only to spend the entire night surrounded by sick, coughing, covid morons breathing on me. Why can't these fools be separated from those of us who were vaccinated? So much for "First Do No Harm", eh?! Second, the bathroom was ...well......beyond description! The floor was so covered in piss, shit, blood, and vomit that my shoes stuck to the floor. Needless to say, those shoes went into the trash along with the clothes I was wearing that night. How long does it take to mop a bathroom...... 1 minute? I saw some guy with a mop bucket walk by it TWICE but never went in. Sometime around 5:30 am a nurse walked into the room and let fly a string of expletives that I would't repeat to a drunken sailer. It was F*** this M*****F*** and S**t and G**D***. This was not in a whisper tone ...oh no....she was yelling this so everyone could hear it including several children! I spent over 20 years as a school counselor and I've never witnessed such immaturity from one of my kids much less an "adult". Once I was moved to a room things got much better and the quality of care improved greatly. The food was even surprisingly good! But nothing could make up for the 15 hours I spent in ER Hell! Needles to say I will never set foot in this hospital again, I'd rather stay home and die. read more

This center is one of several community practices UNC has in the area. As it turns out, we've been using FMC off and on for the last several years - mainly out of convenience and location. After my recent bought of mono, I have to say they did a decent job of finally diagnosing my symptoms after 2 long weeks. And I really have to emphasize "they" b/c it was really more of a team effort of several docs....vide infra. SCHEDULING: This can be quite convenient as you can schedule an appt online....or just call and (most times) they can fit you in on the same day as they reserve a few spots for "walk ins". Even if you can't see your PCP, they'll fit you in with an available doctor regardless. It's pretty painless...even if the front desk ppl aren't exactly what I'd call the friendliest bunch out there. FACILITIES: They have a lab and other assorted test equipment on site which makes it super convenient if you need to have stuff done like x-rays, blood work and what not. DOCS: Some of the docs, depending on the program are residents and some aren't. Regardless of who my PCP is and whether or not he's busy, I can always see someone which is convenient if you're sick, but not "emergency" sick. In my last case, my PCP was booked, so i saw Dr. Page instead and was super impressed by her bedside manner as well as her thoroughness in trying to diagnose my symptoms. It was her who actually recommended doing the monospot test even in my own disbelief and age - I'd been diagnosed decades ago with the EBV virus. My point is that even tho she wasn't my PCP, she still consulted with my PCP and others in the practice. That resource of having the other practicing physicians available (adding a different perspective) is one of the benefits of community practices like these. PARKING: FREE. Enough said - esp. on this side of the campus near the hospital. OTHER STUFF & OBSERVATIONS: yup, free wifi is available. They also have a play area with toys for older kids (toddlers). Also, they do offer some progressive programs like a group prenatal care that at one time we were interested in. Personally, I tend to find them more hands off as a practice, preferring to use the "wait and see" approach as in my case. This can be a bit unsettling if you want a more proactive physician...so keep this is mind. As for billing problems and insurance cards, I haven't had any problems here....but we've had problems at other community practices (where we take our kid). It's annoying having to deal with misfiled insurance claims....so I understand some of the frustrations of the other reviewer. The bad (i.e., why the 1 star reduction?)? Well, it's hit or miss with the staff and physicians. Esp. if you get a resident who ends up leaving that you like. Otherwise, my rec is that if you do go here and arem't satisfied with the doc you have, just request another one. I do believe like any org/practice...you have great docs and just so-so ones. So like anything else you want to invest your personaly health in, do your due diligence and check things out first. Still, 4 respectable stars for the overall service and I still always seem to come here for my general non-emergency issues. read more

This was a horrible experience. Waited for 7 hours, and they lost my urine sample because the staff is too incompetent to label things- a woman in the waiting room literally asked for a pen to label her sample because they forgot the sticker. honestly horrendous. Also, I was basically kicked out of the room when I was already packing my bag to leave. This place is honestly a disgrace to UNC, and as a student, I will be going over to Duke hospitals or literally anywhere else from now on. read more

It's difficult to rate a hospital because you really don't want to be here. However, I'll provide my thoughts as a family member of a patient. We spent 3 days in the Women's Hospital. Absolutely fabulous staff! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. There is a lot of foot traffic all over since it is a big hospital (Main, Children's, Women's, Cancer). However, the flow of the lobbies and floors made it easy to get around. I had lunch in the cafeteria twice. It wasn't bad but I only ate the freshly made salads. The amount of seating was pretty poor. There is a Starbucks downstairs between the Women's Center and the Cancer center. This was a welcomed surprise!! Every place I went was clean and neat. There was a good bit of security too, which was nice to see. To access the rooms you'll need an ID and they will take your picture. They print a visitors pass that you stick to your shirt. There were only two downsides. First, the parking was horrible. On the first day, I arrived around 11am. I drive around the parking garage for 20 minutes until I found a spot. $8 for the day. The second item was the in-room phone. It never worked even after asking for someone to look at it multiple times. For the healthcare part, I have no complaints. They took very good care of my family member and she seemed pleased with everything. Overall, it was as enjoyable as it could be considering why I was here. read more
