It is a lovely place to visit, read a book, relax, and do work. The customer service is great. The beignet is delicious and so was the seasonal fall drink I had (decaf gingerbread latte). Not to mention, there are so many great book options from kid to adult reads. They also sell shirts and hoodies, greeting cards, stickers, bookmarks, and notebooks. They also have a room in the back for more space (& more reads!). My only nitpick is that every time I visit (normally in the fall/winter), it's cold inside. Uncle Bobbie's is open Monday 8-2pm and Tues- Sunday 10-5pm. They have a large selection of books in all genres. Love that they also have a childrens section to keep the little ones busy. They have social events here and I think it would be a great place to have a bookclub meeting. There isn't a parking lot, but a lot of parking on the street. The customer service was also great! They were glad to help me find what I was looking for. Uncle Bobbie's is black owned and operated. Me and my daughter decided to make a special trip here to support for black history month. I've heard about this place from a friend some time ago and I drive by here all the time. I was meeting someone for coffee, and they asked where can we meet, and I said STARBUCKS! The person came back and said, "Nah, I only do black owned" and suggested here. Parking: Street and its metered. I believe the side street church lane isn't. Atmosphere: bright and cozy! I thought they only sold coffee, but they have books too as well as great music. I love it! They have so many titles! Oh, and the great memorabilia and pictures!! This isn't a Starbucks. If you want a t-shirt you can purchase one. They even have a cozy couch in the back to chill! It was just an all-around unique vibe that I was definitely feeling. Service: Great! They gave suggestions. They have an area where you can set up your laptop and charge your electronics. Selection: 1. I had the Macha tea, I think, called the spring garden. It was delicious 2. Yes, I went on a Black Owned Bookstore tour while visiting DC- but we had to go to Philly! This review is really past due, but who is judging me?! Uncle Bobbie's Coffee & Books is like going to your favorite uncle's house and finding all the coolest, dopest shit he used to wear when he was in school. I went in for books and merch and I left with that. I left with two sweatshirts and a few books, which the owner signed for me. YEP, you guessed it- I met Marc Lamont Hill honey! Wow, that is a handsome human being. Sir, you are good-looking! (Can I say this on Yelp? lmao! Marc, if you see this hello lol, and also thank you for sharing your art with us!) And we took a photo and I was stuck, unable to speak because Marc is a legend. Mynika, enough. Okay, so I know for a fact that I have to return because I did not get to indulge in the coffee/cafe. Had the opportunity to visit the lovely Uncle Bobbie's Coffee & Books. Been wanting to check it out and finally had the opportunity! Uncle Bobbie's Coffee & Books hosted Alex Elle's book tour at First United Methodist Church of Germantown (FUMCOG). Both establishments' staff were so nice and made sure the guests were taken care of. After the event, I stopped by the coffee shop/bookstore, which is not big but comfortable. There were people working on their laptops, talking to friends, reading books, etc. I looked around at the variety of books, which was cool. Ordered their "caramel kiss" iced coffee. This was one of the best iced coffees I've ever tasted. They also had pastries and bagels available. Wish I could've enjoyed my coffee there, but I had to run. Definitely visiting again! read more

Finally, real espresso in Germantown! They have dairy and non dairy milks, teas, and a nice selection of cookies/pastries/brownies. If you get here early enough there are even bagels! Unfortunately due to regulations you can't bring your own cup, and they don't have ceramic cups. Everything goes in the same big paper cups with plastic lids (even a single espresso lol). There's room to sit with a friend but they mostly serve to go. They have an impressive inventory of books, mostly non fiction Black liberation, history, intersectional feminism, post colonial solitary etc etc. Great place to do some learning and support authors from marginalized communities. I'll admit it that Uncle Bobbie's wasn't my first choice of a study spot when I was on a search for one. After my first visit there, I changed my mind. Heck, I fell in love with this coffee shop even before I ventured inside of it. From the quaint cobblestone road to the beautiful cathedral that's tucked behind its building, Uncle Bobbie's Coffee & Books was nothing short of enchanting. The ease of finding a parking space there was also a welcomed contrast to the clusterf* setting that most of the other coffee shops in Philly seem to be in. Inside the shop, the ambience was casual, hip, and inviting. I love the huge windows that adorn the sides of the shop since it helps me keep a lookout at my car across the street. Plus, it's also a great way for the natural light to keep the place nice and bright. As far as the coffee goes, I loved Wakanda Forever. Pricewise, it's fair. One reason I was excited to live in this area was Marc's bookstore. I finally made it over. I got a latte and my wife got an iced tea. She didn't like her iced tea because it was too sweet. So she left it for me and I loved it. It's very different. The latte was great too. That was sweet too. She got a pastry she really liked. Now onto the books... the selection was overwhelming. Not because there are a million or anything. There isn't enough space there. There were so many books that were on subjects that interest me but I'd never heard of. I love the merch they have. I visited during the summer to grab a bite since I was in the area for an obligation. My sister really recommended that we check it out since her old professor owned the establishment. It is located in the Germantown neighborhood which has a nice family/city vibe during my visit. Once I entered I was greeted by the nice staff. I got in line to order and noticed that there establishment was filled with folks eating, drinking, reading, studying and working at the plenty tables and seats throughout. It looked small from the outside but there were plenty of places to sit and do your thing. There are plenty of books to select from as well. Since it was a quick stop in, I got a sandwich and a drink to go. Next time I plan to read, relax, get work done, and etc. I look forward to coming back for the experience. read more

There is lovely sunlight and enough room to have somewhat private conversations. Also a quiet enough place to read or get work done! As an educator, the children's book section always catches my attention! I left today with 2 books for my school. The options are well curated and I had to stop myself from buying another book for myself. I'll be back! Upon walking in, we weren't greeted and when asked about the price of a item, the gentleman working behind the counter basically told me to look at the price tag (in a condescending manner), which I obviously did not see. This place is a perfect example of a "third place" which are rare these days! I went last week and ordered a rose latte (really good) and browsed some of the books. They have an extensive selection of POC authors and even a children's section which I thought was great to include for families. I was intrigued by a few books and was able to sip my latte and read a little of each on an adorable little chair in the back. Best way to have some me time on a cold afternoon! I ended up buying the book Accountable by Dashka Slater which I'm really enjoying. Parking was easy, service was friendly, and I adore the concept of a bookshop and cafe! I didn't even know if I liked a latte, but since I was vibing in the book store, I figured why not soak up the moment. Amazing!! I have been here twice now. First time was an impromptu visit with a friend before we headed to brunch. It was a Sunday morning and it was extremely crowded which is a good sign. I ordered the banana hot chocolate and it was a lot less sweet than I anticipated which was a good thing. I do wish they would ask for names or give numbers and/or label cups however because someone that ordered after me took my banana hot chocolate before I could get to the counter. I literally watched him grab it and I had to wait for the one that should have been for him. During my second visit which was actually planned, my friend and I had a wonderful time. We sat for about 2 hours catching up. I ended up ordering a delicious green tea and the honey mustard chicken sandwich, which both far exceeded my expectations. Overall I absolutely love the decor and the overall atmosphere. And a good number of the books are also on my must-read list. Yes it lives up to the hype! I'm so glad I drove from the burbs to see for myself. I enjoyed everything about this place. When I walk in boom the book I came to purchase. Much to my delight it was a remaining signed copy from an event with the author a few days before. Yay!! The ambiance is nouveau nerd and I love it. Plenty of books for children and adults. I'm a little cautious when it comes to pre wrapped or prepared food but I went in after reading the reviews. Well I had just about the best chicken flatbread panini EVER! It was filled with chicken, greens, cheese, flavor and it was grilled to perfection. The cook/cashier/inventory clerk did a great job making the sandwich as well as answering questions about the books and stock. At times it became crowded but that's a good thing. The staff navigated well through it all. There is also very nice cashier who was bubbly and helpful. You will love the seating options as they are laid back, very casual but clean. The problem?
