Wow, if only all service businesses could be so good as Scott!…read more At the end of a wonderful holiday weekend, cruising along I-70 fully loaded HD pickup truck, complete with travel trailer in tow, we had our peace of the open road broken by a low tire pressure caution. We all know what happens next, that unmistakable thump of a flat. The worst kind of flat; a side wall puncture on a rear tire on a holiday weekend. Luck was with us, we were within a short limp to an exit with plenty of room to park. Quickly as we come to a stop and get out to inspect the damage, Scott pulls along side and asks if he could help. Naturally suspicious of being approached so quickly, we asked a few questions. Scott in short order put us to ease as he identifies himself as a AAA provider, I had completely missed the logos that were everywhere. He also discussed his background. Scott was also willing to help immediately, he happened to be going by and saw us in trouble. My first impression, ok well my second impression after the surprise of seeing help arrive so quickly; was this: I don't think I have met such a well mannered, knowledgable and capable mechanic is years. The way I remembered true professional tradesmen that were much more common in the past. My wife called AAA to get work approval while Scott started in on the task. When AAA asked for his "shop number", he quickly rattled off the data, while on the ground retrieving the spare. This guy is a machine. Chris obviously knew what he was doing. He had the tires changed and the jack coming down by the time the approval came through. NASCAR should be talking to Chris about leading a Pit crew. If I lived more closely, he would be "my" mechanic. For now Scott will be in my contacts as the go to guy in western MD for all things in automotive service.

Faced with a decision of potentially having it fixed or driving 500 miles to go get the car and it's precious cargo Scott said that he would look at it right away. Sure enough, the engine threw a rod and punctured the oil pan. The car was dead and I was on my way to get them. Despite closing at 5pm he and his crew waited for me to get there two hours later, helped me load the car onto a dolly (properly!) and sent me on my way with a minimal charge for the tow. I guarantee that if was something simple (water or fuel pump) I would have had them do the work.

Had R&S re-tow it to a neighboring dealership service center and found out that they mangled the underside shield of our vehicle during the tow when the service manager tried to move our vehicle to the maintenance bay. The mechanic had to cut the shield off just to move the vehicle because it was scraping on the ground. R&S refuses to take responsibility, leaving us with an additional $400+ repair bill. When confronted about it, R&S sent pictures and a text message stating there WAS NO DAMAGE FROM TOWING but not one photo shows the underside, only pictures of the sides and front/rear bumpers. Our tow was in no way related to running over or hitting something, so this was NEW damage as a direct result from the tow. Was hoping that the company would be more honest and take responsibility - recommend taking your business elsewhere.

The insurance company made us take our car to another body shop in the area. Two days after we…read moredropped it off, they more than doubled their initial estimate. I left D&J a voicemail at 4:30 on a Friday night to get a second opinion. He called me back within 15 minutes and explained all of my options better than the other shop and the car insurance company combined. Then, on Monday, once I had seen the car and taken pictures, he gave me a $100 solution to what the other company wanted $3300 for (and should have seen in the first estimate) and said another piece they claimed needed to be fixed was structurally sound. He offered to work with me to get secondhand parts to fit within my budget if I chose to salvage the car or drop the insurance claim- and I never paid him a dime for his services! I wish I would have taken our car to D&J instead of going through insurance and the other company. They are honest, communicative and truly have the customer's best interests in mind!

I went the next day to get several belongings out of my vehicle. I spoke with Mike (owner) and asked him if my vehicle was totaled. (It was pretty close to being totaled). He laughed and said it was no where near being totaled, and it was only about 5,000 worth of damage. I used to work at a car dealership, I know how a body shop works. They don't want it to be totaled, no money in their pocket. I immediately called Bill's Auto Body and had my vehicle removed from Mike's and towed to Bill's. They did an estimate for 10,545.43. And it only needs to be 11,500 to be totaled. So YES, it was in fact very close to being totaled. Bill's were absolutely amazing to me!
