What a fun find! We were in the area of Tom's River NJ while visiting family. We came across this place while researching breakfast spots on Yelp. We just had to try it after reading so many glowing reviews, as well as the amazing photos that were shared (thanks Yelpers!) We walked into this super tiny shop and were immediately greeted warmly by two gentlemen behind the counter. We were asked very politely if we needed a run down of the process and happily listened to the friendly tour. We have been to other such spots, so we somewhat knew what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised that while ordering our selection of 9 donuts for $10 plus tax, that the other gentleman was already fast at work on our order. By the time we paid, we were being presented with our donut creations. This was somewhat disappointing as I would have liked to see them being prepared. However, it was great for those in a rush and the next guest was most likely happy we were on our way within minutes of entering. The variety of flavors can be customized. This was fun especially for the little guests in our party. We enjoyed mixing and matching the recommendations with our own wild creations. The taste of the base donut was a bit crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were ah-mazing! The toppings were just the right amount for the size of the donuts. Each bite was delicious! This was the first bacon donut that had a very good amount of bacon balanced with maple frosting (Vermont). We loved every donut and will definitely add this to our must visit spots. This place is a local gem. I've had donuts from so many places and nothing compares to Uncle Dood's. When you pass it you wouldn't look at it twice since it's a small little store but you'll probably see a lot of people outside (especially on the weekends). The staff is the most welcoming and friendly group too. They always give great suggestions on their new flavors depending on what kind of donuts you like. My personal favorites include the Samoa, bedrock, and the vanilla with Oreos. I'm always open to trying new flavors though. All their donuts are made fresh at the store and they're crispy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. It's really the perfect combination. Red and white sign above the door, and a small space within. The donuts are made in a "just in time" process, so that the donuts you binge on are still hot from their birthing hot oil bath. Your order is taken and then individually dipped in the flavors and textures you choose from the menu on the counter. Most are $1.25 apiece, but there is an upcharge for certain options, like bacon. A box of 9 goes for $10. Those I chose were all excellent - so much so that it really doesn't matter what I thought I liked. Whether plain, or covered in simple vanilla, strawberry, cherry or chocolate glaze, or more layered with crumbled cookies, caramel, or other wonderous crunchies, each was distinctly delicious with consistent cake base and quality colorful sweet goo and bits. Every bite a delight. These babies are on the smallish size, so one is a perfect size to companion a cup of coffee. They remain fresh for a couple of days, so no rush to binge all at once. Still such a beautiful hidden gem of Toms River! (Hidden if you're not from Ocean County of course haha). I decided to check out Uncle Dood's for Mother's Day to see if I could get my hands on a box of donuts. My advice is to refer to their Facebook page as they always update customers and answer questions promptly, about the menu and rules of ordering ahead. For Mother's Day this year they had cannoli sandwich donuts. These babies could not be ordered ahead of time so I had to get up early and be there before opening. Be patient as there's usually a longer line on Holidays. By the time I got to the front, the newer younger staff than I remember was SUPER friendly, and I noticed each one was wearing gloves and masks to abide by COVID-19 standards. Brought them home, had after dinner and they were delicious just as expected. Beats out Ob-cos anyday! read more

If you have a solid base, in this case the cake, everything else is bonus. Uncle Dood... you nailed it brotha. The cake had a light crisp on the outside that sealed the soft heaven inside. As I pulled up there was a line down the block, partly because social distancing and partly for patrons who wanted to buy donuts. My first instinct was "damn! This place has got to be really good!" After waiting about 10-15 mins I got to the front and ordered a box. A few minutes later I got my order and I was ready to try one. Light, super fresh and tasty, not bad figured it would be decent by the lines and reviews. I think the prices are ok, I thought some of the flavors were odd like no chocolate donuts and jelly was a circle with a hole and filled w jelly oppose to a full donut w jelly I'm used to?
