I got the 4 piece hot chicken with fries and it also came with a biscuit that was everything!! The spice on this chicken let me tell you was absolutely the best sweet, tangy and good heat it is honestly the best chicken I have ever had! I've heard so many great things about uncle Lou's but today they missed the mark with me. It was a nice crowd when I came in which was a good sign. But once I got to the register I received some of the poorest customer service I have received in a while. I even tried to smile and ignore it but the young lady at the register only got ruder. She was not helpful as I made my order and made me feel real incompetent. I noticed as more customers came that she treated a lot of the patrons just like that not only me. A lot of people were upset by her rudeness. Other than that the wait time was as expected for fried chicken. We tried the home style and the mild fried chicken, both were good. The fries were okay, and the Mac and cheese was a big no for me. The biscuits however were delicious and so was the punch! I wish I could give a better review but unfortunately I cannot. I know what you are probably thinking .... What is a veg head doing at a fried chicken joint? Well... In this particular case... the ultimate grilled cheese. All of companions always have the fried chicken in various forms. My friends all really LOVE it ... And one took some home to her dad, who also raved at it goodness. In fact it's my sister's favorite fried chicken in town. There are all manner of unhealthy fried sides .... All pretty good. Of note are the fried okra and corn nuggets. I've had the corrupted carrots - pretty good (just dry rub sprinkled carrots). However let me just tell you about that grilled cheese... You'd best settle into a comfy spot. Now, I didn't watch them make it so I can't attest to the complete honesty of the description I'm about to launch into ... But, I'm going to tell y'all how it tasted like they made it. It comes to the table a monster stack of crispy buttery goodness, slightly sliced in triangular halves. It looks a bit sinful ... But one bite into the slightly gooey buttery layers of that grilled cheese ... I was sure I was breaking some law ... Somewhere. It was compiled of three slices of Texas toast that had been slathered in butter and toasted on a flat top - on both sides. Four slices of American (reminiscent of moms grilled cheese at home growing up) cheese where layered on the bread and slightly melted. The butter soaked cheese layered slices of bread where then stacked on top of one another and given another flip at the grill. The results ... a heart attack on a plate ... The results ... pure deliciousness. Do I want to have it again? Heck yeah! Will I ever have it again? Heavens NO! OK OK I have had it a few more times .... Well... I mean a pescatarian girl has to have something to eat at a chicken joint. What other option does she have!!! If you are a grilled cheese fanatic (*waves hand in the air* me me me) then you just can't be in Memphis without giving it a try. I'm recommending only one try because I don't want to be responsible for any blocked arteries or resulting carb and fat commas that may result. ***5 STAR YARD BIRD!!!*** Let me start slightly negative and say the corrupted carrots weren't my thing but a lot of people wrote great reviews so I gave them a shot. Maybe it was just a bad day or something because this was my first time here, but I'm down to try anything twice. It's hard to mess up fried okra but I've seen it and they didn't. Wasn't over seasoned and was cooked freshly, which is always a win with anything fried. Ok, on to the real situation at hand...the CHICKEN! I wish I could say best in Memphis but this is the first place I've tried fried chicken in Memphis. I can't imagine many more being much better but I'm down for the challenge if you have suggestions. I got 3 homestyle and 3 hot whole wings. The homestyle is just plan fried chicken, no sauce but it was seasoned very well and cooked to crispy perfection! The hot ones made me pause on the first bite because I wasn't expecting that taste once I bit into it. The pause was good btw. They have a homemade hot sauce, which is not even close to hot so don't be afraid, and it definitely has it's own unique dance it does to the palate and taste buds! Highly recommended!!! Loved the food. Saw them on Diners, Driveins and Dives so I decided to check them out. We're hooked. Bought some sauce and plan to order some more. My wife and I decided to try this place after watching the Tripple D episode on YouTube. We got there and ordered. It is a no frills restaurant in a strip mall. These places are usually the best food places. So we got 4pc white combo and 4 pc dark combo, okra, cole slaw, and honey biscuits. Let me tell you..... this chicken is to die for !!!!!!! The sweet / spicy love sauce that the chicken is dipped in is FABULOUS! it comes in mild and spicy.....the mild anyone should be able to tolerate. It's a party in your mouth. We ended up buying a bottle of the sauce, and corruption, which is the spices used in the sauce . If you are anywhere near the Memphis area you got to try this place. Uncle Lou was in the kitchen and when he came out to the dining area I thanked him for the best chicken we had eaten in a long time. He was very friendly and gave me a fist bump. My first time visiting. I must be honest, I was curious because I moved to Whitehaven and heard a lot about the place and decided to shop in the neighborhood. I got a 3 piece tender w/ green beans and a 4pc special w/ Sweet and Spicy Love Beans. Chicken was 2 out of 5 because it literally had NO Seasoning! The tenders nor the chicken. The green beans were and Sweet and Spicy Beans were alright but the savoriness of the beans didn't fully mesh with the Sweet and Spicy Sauce. The honey biscuit was a bit soggy. Wonderful. I was famished at Graceland and so we decided to drag ourselves away and have some lunch. Uncle Lou's Fried Chicken was nearby and had some great reviews so we decided to check it out. We were greeted outside by the owner, a warm, friendly and personable man. We walked in and were handed menus on the way to the counter. I ordered a 3 piece mild with corn fritters as my side. This was an excellent choice and a lot of food! We were there before the afternoon rush so we were able to sit right down. Our food wasn't rushed nor was it slow. This is good, because it means the stuff isn't precooked and sitting. Everything was hot and fresh served on a paper plate. It's not white tablecloth. It's not any table cloth. But the food is good and the service is sincere and friendly. The price is fair. I'll be sure to visit Uncle Lou's again next time I'm in town. read more

I've tried a variety of fried chicken and by far this is the best I've tasted. That spicy sauce they use is on point fresh fried chicken and man oh man. It's not a choice when ordering online and they don't mention that on the menu either, so maybe I was supposed to just know?? Or at least when I called and asked, that's basically the response that I got: "We don't put seasoning on the sides unless someone specifically asks for it." Ummm what? People don't buy fries for the greasy taste lol. As a result, the fried okra and fries were tasteless and greasy. They also didn't have the original potato salad I wanted. I'll go 4 stars on the burger but not 5. It was a good burger, but it was premade patties. That's my biggest complaint. I don't think they were frozen though but those machine presses make them too tight and compact. Hand patted burgers are much looser and the flavors and juices just seem to be so much better. I thought the meat tasted good, but it did not taste delicious. And I'm disappointed they don't make a 1/2 pound burger. 1/2 pounds is just right for me. A 6 ounce is too small and a double 6 ounce is way too much. The girl taking my order was making fun of me asking if I was scared of the monster burger. I told her I was already scared enough of the 2/3 lb. lol. And what kind of a burger joint doesn't have lettuce? That's gay. And I won't gripe too much about white onions, but I'd give extra points for red ones. Just saying. On the plus side, that Kaiser bun really held up and did its job till the bitter end. That's a bun you can depend on. It was a good burger, but it won't earn a place in my top ten. And the fried okra was frozen and deep fried which I expected, because that's what everyone does nowadays. I like it, but I grew up on fresh okra homemade and cooked in an iron skillet with lard. The fries and biscuits must have saturated in oil. Plus, there was too much juice on my chicken, as if it had been poured on the chicken after the chicken was plated for each customer.
