Man, do I want to give this place a higher rating, but there were a few things that just cannot justify a higher rating. Let's get into it. We arrived here on a Sunday, not by choice, but because of lack of options in this area on a Sunday. We wanted a sit down meal and not just a grab and go type of situation. Not many choices are available in the area on a Sunday. When we walked in we were greeted warmly and guided to our table. Once we sat down we were looking over the menu and our server approached. We placed our drink order and were kind of given a 'heads up' about how service might be that day. Which isn't always that great of thing to hear when you basically exhausted all other possibilities in the area. When our drinks arrived, almost ten minutes later, we finally started to place our orders. I went with an appetizer and entree. Let me tell you something, I'm ok with fusion food, but Cajun and Irish was not one I was expecting to stumble upon. I like taking in new experiences so I will give anything a chance at least once. When you look over the menu, you can see how they fused the cuisines and some sound interesting, while others give you the apprehension that you should follow and not order. During the ordering process, my picks were readily available, but my friends weren't so lucky when they made selections. One friend just kept going down the list until one was available. However, one of my other friends ordered something only for the server to return and tell her that that option was not available at that time because they didn't have the items to make it. Then the food started to come out, very intermittently. Remember how I told you I ordered an appetizer and entree? Well, my entree arrived well before my appetizer. Since my entree came first I went with Cod Fish & Chips. This comes with fries, coleslaw and hushpuppies. The highlight of this place were the hushpuppies. They were amazing, flavorful and of a decent size. The fries were dead cold. The cod was decent, lukewarm at best, and the coating was a bit much. It wasn't a fluffy, crunchy batter, it was like it was densely packed in cornmeal. The coleslaw, yikes. I've had vinegar forward slaw, but this one was a bit overpowering. And remember they are a fusion restaurant, the Cajun portion of this was the punch in the face that when paired with that vinegar forward slaw, is not a good mix. The appetizer, Boxty, was definitely the highlight of the whole meal for me. This right here was redeemable and maybe that is why it showed up after my entree. It made me forget about the entree. Two perfectly, huge, traditional potato pancakes. It is served with a Cajun remoulade. If I would have tried this first, I would have seen how the fusion worked. Because this truly worked. The remoulade mixed well with the potato pancake. That plate, was absolutely empty when my plates were picked up. What overshadowed all this was the service. Honestly, it really wasn't their fault, or at least totally their fault. It was the employees. Some kitchen staff, we were told, did not show up. Couple that with no prep work being done the night before or earlier in that day made for slow food preparation. On top of the kitchen staff not showing up, some servers did not show up as well. Our server, who was amazing and charming, was stretched thin. She was humble and took everything in stride. She even thought, in her mind, that most of this was her fault. Honey, you did nothing wrong, you are doing your job and showed up. Your suggestions to us were spot on, and you need to remember you didn't prepare the food. This place is redeemable, but only after they get the staffing straight and hire the right people. If I am ever back in the area, I will give it another try. Especially since the place is beautiful and kind of reminiscent of New Orleans. That two-floored restaurant with outdoor seating on both levels and the outdoor fans really give off the Big Easy. read more

After scouring Google for new restaurants to try out, I came across The Cajun Leprechaun located in downtown Montgomery. The eatery sits on the corner and is hard to miss. After arriving, my mom and I were greeted and seated promptly. It's a very intimate setting that would highly remind you of an authentic New Orleans style restaurant right in Alabama. Very nice. Upon ordering, we decided to try the shrimp po boys with a side of fries. I wanted a dessert so I decided to also try the beignets and a lemonade for our drinks. The sandwiches themselves were very delicious and super filling. So much so that I could only eat one half and take the other half with me. The beignets I feel could have been better. I ordered once but the waitress saw my face and immediately brought another order out without me asking, which I appreciated. The new order was a bit better, but I think they could use some improvement. Overall, I would recommend this place to try for a nice Cajun vibe. read more

This place was absolutely horrible! I will never go back. I love Irish pubs, so I was interested in the cajun twist. Boy, was I disappointed!!! There are so many things I could say about this horrible experience that lasted way longer than it should have! Let's start with our drinks. I ordered a long island and my husband a beer that was listed on their beer list. Over 10 minutes later, I received my drink (that was yellow and looked like someone's margerita), and they said they did not have Blue Moon!! So he ordered a different beer on the same list. That, too, was not available......we found out 5 minutes later. He finally ordered a beer that was recommended to be close to a blue moon. My long island was terribly sweet! It was horrible! My entire table received their food while I sat there with a cornbread side, my horrible drink and my remoulade on the side. I ordered a grilled chicken with swiss cheese and the sauce on the side. I NEVER received my food! My server finally came to me to tell me she gave it to another table! So the other table not only received my special order but also their original fried chicken sandwich, origional order, leaving me with a cornbread side and a side of remoulade sauce. The gumbo that someone ordered at my table was horrible! It was a seafood gumbo that had beef in it. The cornbread side was good but only had 4 muffins, and I asked for it to be an appetizer for the table. I should have been told there were only 2 and would have ordered more for the table to each eat one. I should have been given the wrong order while they corrected my order. Instead when I asked to pay our bill, she apologized and continued arguing with me when I said she should not have left me with nothing and should have given me the order that was available even if it was wrong. Yes, I said I wanted grilled and not the fried chicken, but I should have been offered the correct item I ordered in addition to the incorrect one. Hospitality service is obviously something they need to work on! I am pretty sure it was the manager who asked the server what was going on but never came to our table to say anything to us. She just watched us walk out. I wish I had pictures to share......by the time this happened, everyone had already started eating, and I did not want to show partially eaten food. read more

Happily pleased with the new place. It is a quirky theme, but they pull it off well. Certainly a place to come with friends so you can try a good mix of things on the menu. They has traditional Irish to traditional Cajun, and then dishes that mix the two, and do it well. The sauces are just the right mix of spice and flavor, that linger to enjoy but not scare your tastebuds. Friendly (and honest!) service who give you real opinions on what's good that day, and what maybe to try some other time (that is a huge plus in my book). Right downtown in a two story (they were doing karaoke upstairs, so add that to the mix) location with street parking. I'll be back to sample more of the menu. read more

In town for college Bowl game(Go Jags). After the Christmas parade we stopped for dinner. Walking distance to Doubletree Hilton where we were staying. The fried green tomatoes are their signature app. Huge portion(4) perfectly fried with sausage, tomatoes, feta cheese, roumalade and some greenery. Wonderful. Hubby and I split that. He had the beef stew and and I had the best shrimp and grits I have ever had (with blue cheese grits!). I definitely recommend and would go back! Had lunch at the restaurant this afternoon The service Bri provided was exceptional! She was caring/concerned, courteous, friendly, pleasant and served us while wearing such a beautiful smile. All of the food we ordered was very good! Our food was very tasty and ample portions were received. The ambiance is okay. I say that because I feel the asthetics can made more appealing by improving the decor with pictures to brighten up its dining area. First of all Jim and Jeremy were outstanding! Their customer interactions were off the charts. They made us feel very welcome and explained the history of the restaurant and the future plans for the location To the food. The food was fabulous. We ordered the fish and chips and the shrimp platter. It's very challenging to fry seafood as well as they do here. Great crunch with minimal batter. We got great portions with our meal and the coleslaw was to die for! I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone and we will be back ASAP! read more

I visited the restaurant on a Friday night. When I entered the building there was confusion whether to proceed up or downstairs. Opting upstairs, I was told it was reserved for an exclusive party so I return downstairs. After a brief 5-minute wait following another party, we were seated. We sat so close to another table that my chair was back to back with the female behind me. Our waitress was pleasant and efficient. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and the trash can overflowing with dirty napkins. The food came out in a timely manner. The turkey burger was over seasoned and the fries had more salt on them than the ocean. The veggie pasta lacked a lot flavor. It did not taste good at all. The sauce had a watery consistency reminiscent of canned goods. Regrettably, this experience marked my first and last visit to the restaurant. Please avoid this place. We sat at the bar yet every time we ordered the bar person disappeared for 15 mins only to come back and tell us they had run Guinness , IPA, sauv blanc. We arrived at 1108, the restaurant opened at 1100 (party of 9). There were 2 tables before us, 3 people at the bar, and a party of 12 that was coming at 12 trickling in going upstairs. The food was good 8.5/10. Our server, John, was horrible. He was slow and out of touch. He poured water in an unsweet tea. He never refilled a sweet tea. We watched 3-5 tables order their food, eat, and pay before we received our food. At 1248, we received our first order. The next order came 20 minutes later. The next 2 plates came 10 minutes later. The next plate came 30 minutes later. The next plate came 25 minutes later. What in the entire hell????? I spoke with the manager, she explained the kitchen was backed up because it was lunch time, they were busy, and because it was a new restaurant, and they didn't expect the crowd. What the hell again? She didn't offer to compensate us for the consistent delays. Then they had the audacity to add gratuity and a large party fee!!!!! You have got to be F'n kidding me!!!!! Great service and ambiance. For starters we order the fried green tomatoes, a lemon drop martini and an old fashion mixed drink. The fried green tomatoes were phenomenal. We were concerned about the drinks since the waitress informed us they recently obtained their liquor license. Let me tell y'all the drinks were very good. The young lady that made them knew what she was doing. Next, my husband ordered the catfish and I ordered the fried cod fish. Took a bit for us to get our food. We finally get it and my husband catfish was the fried cod fish. The waitress informed us that they only had one cook and that's why it took a tad longer for our food to be done. She also stated that they did not have any catfish so instead they gave him the cod fish. We thought it was great that they didn't leave him without a dish but maybe they could have asked if that's what he wanted. We also ordered a second round of drinks and they didn't disappoint.
