I had my first of their cheesecake in San Jose and was really happy to hear there was one in Vancouver! You cannot beat their original cheesecake. It's light and fluffy and not like regular cheesecake. I feel you need to get 2 if it's something you really like (in this case, I would've gotten 2 haha) it's that good! The person at the front desk was kind enough to explain their cheesecakes and cheese tarts. If you do get the cheese tarts, it's best that they chill in the fridge so they can harden a bit. We got ours on the way home to Seattle and it was not set haha, more like custard liquid. Their Yuzu flavor is limited, I didn't ask how long it ran for but prob between spring and summer. I didn't get a chance to try it but if they decide to keep it, I'll try for next time -- love Yuzu! They also have a matcha one. Walked past it on my way towards my hotel and took a whiff of the buttery goodness emitting from their doors. Immediately turned around and became a customer. I bought two honey madelines for now (my trip just started) for $6.20. The nice worker handed us a paper bag and warned us it was piping hot. I've never encountered an Uncle Tetsu location that I haven't liked - this one doesn't offer the full product line (there are flavored cheesecakes at other locations - mmm strawberry and matcha), but it's serviceable. They do have the cheese tarts and the original cheesecake, which are really the items that I order consistently. The cheesecake was the soft, airy-but-creamy consistency that any Japanese cheesecake lover knows and adores. The cheese tart wasn't quite set; it could have used some chilling (it was being held at room temp). Service/facilities are perfunctory - they have a walk-up counter with one employee manning a register, and there's pretty much no room in the lobby to do anything other than to spin around and walk out the door with your goods, post-payment. I have always love Uncle Tetsu's cheesecake. I had it multiple times in different countries including Japan. This time I got the original flavor in Vancouver and it definitely tastes different. It's less sweet. Normally it's already not too sweet which is perfect. But now that it tastes even less sweet honestly that makes this cheesecake really bland. read more

Left my name, phone number and the date I wanted these items. Upon arrival to pick up my order, was informed that they were unable to sell them to me WITHOUT signing a CONTRACT. While I was willing ( and very confused) about whatever legal documentation was necessary to buy cheesecakes, the second counterperson just sold me the product while the first was still looking for his contract paper. While the cakes were still fresh, it was evident they were not part of an order specifically for me. Additionally, they were also unable to provide a printed receipt. This was a very unsatisfactory customer experience, full of questionable behaviours. Where was my initial order? Why was I requested to sign a legal document? After all the hype for YEARS at Metrotown and the long freaking line ups etc, I was really surprised and blown away and say that it is actually real. HUGGEEE BUT, the only thing that is good with Uncle Tetsu's is their iconic Cheesecake and THAT IS IT! I only stopped by because there was no line up, and I could leave with 2-3 cheesecakes. Dropped one off at my parents, one at my best friend's place and one to treat myself. My friend said to have a slice before I left, and I did. The fluffiest, puffiest and "fuwa fuwa" texture ever from a cheesecake. But it didn't give me that creamy sensation. I was a little disappointed. Researching it a bit over my phone, I told my friend to eat it a couple hours later in the fridge. It will be creamy and still a little fluffy, and taste a little bit cheesier. I first encountered Uncle Tetsu's Cheesecake while I was living in Taiwan. It wasn't as hyped up over there because they had other Japanese cheesecake shops as well. Another thing is that in Taiwan they had cheese tarts and chocolate versions of the cheesecakes. They don't have those options here in Vancouve thoughr. Because of this, I wasn't too interested in it when it first opened here. So what makes Uncle Tetsu's cheesecakes so amazing that people would line up hour for? Well, they use simple ingredients and only use quality butter, cream cheese and eggs! Their cheesecakes are sold at one size at $12 each. What sets Japanese cheesecakes apart from other cheesecake varieties is that it doesn't have a crust and it's light and fluffy in the middle making it very enjoyable to eat. After trying some of the cheesecake, I can see why people are so excited about it but it's not something I would line up for hours to get a hold of. I've actually made Japanese cheesecake before and maybe I enjoy it more because it's homemade but if baking isn't your forte, getting to from Uncle Tetsu's is a great option. read more

Famous their Japanese style cheesecake finally got one recently when there was no queue. The smell is heavenly and it's efficient and well set up. I got one of the original cheesecakes (can't get a slice) which was still warm and well packaged and reasonably priced. It's very fluffy, light and rich. Ingredients are simple and straightforward, ton of cream cheese and egg yolks. I feel like one is enough for four to six people and it was good from the fridge for a couple of days. This Uncle Tetsu location isn't as busy as the one in Metrotown. I've walked past a few times and there is usually no line up. I finally managed to get my hands on their cheesecake rusk! The Metrotown location is always sold out but there were two bags left at this location. It was sooo good and literally melted in your mouth. It's basically a cheesecake cookie. The cheesecake here is always a must get. I actually prefer eating the cheesecake after it has sat in the fridge for a little bit so it's slightly denser. I've tried the cheesecake right when I got home and it was kinda soggy and didn't have the same texture (maybe b/c it was humid but I'm not sure). Their honey madeleines are super yummy (especially with a cup of coffee). If you are passing by and their is no line up, I definitely recommend snatching a cheesecake for yourself ! read more
