Car was there aa months sitting there cause our car dealership was not. Giving. Us answers.. long story short got transmission fixed under warranty after sitting month with no answers . $500 later this will be. The 4th time we going. Back within a month to get check engine light resolved... Just costing us more and more money at this point. The dealership choose here and they put in the transmission so now they have to do the work so we don't come any of pocket more... Getting really aggravated .. Very nice but I dont think they know what there doing when it comes to fixing cars. read more

Just got my truck back today. Got my transmission rebuilt and a new set of brakes done while it was in. This place was recommended by a friend. Everything seems to be working great and the guys seem to know what they are doing here. My local mechanic recently did some work for me and my car was still bucking. It is an 8 year old truck with 150,000 miles on it. I told him that I thought my transmission didn't feel right. He said it was fine. I blew my transmission 3 weeks later and was stranded in Worcester. Needless to say a good friend who sells cars recommended me to Uncle's. They took my truck in this Tuesday and I got it Friday at 1230. I am not sure if they respond well to oil change jobs but they are fantastic at transmissions! Only needed to have reverse fixed. 2,000 dollars it cost. Reverse broke again at 10,500 miles. Brought it back, now reverse is broken again after 20,000 miles. Also , they stripped bolts on transmission pan and caused leak. The owner only cares about golfing. Untrained kids work there. That shop needs to be stopped. read more

Many issues with this place starting with customer service, lack of knowledge, to keeping your care for a week because someone was out with a shoulder issue. I left this place so disappointed with the lack of communication. They never called. I had to call constantly to get any info whatsoever. Do Not go here, especially if you are female. read more

They didnt know me from a hole in the wall. Treated me with respect. Performed the job i asked quickly and at a great price. ( transmission fluid flush, filter) The price they quoted me 3 weeks before i even showed my face . same price when i finally dropped it off. Im Not going to referee these other negative comments but i must admit they seem false to me. I will go back no question. My Kia Sportage needed a torque converter , whoever the young idiot is at front counter tells my wife if left that day we will have back by the weekend , this was tuesday , weekend came and went , no car , waited until tuesday of following week , was told they are working on and will call you by end of day with update , end of day , NO UPDATE , call the next day , im told they are buttoning car up , by end of day wednsday no car , call thursday , im told they need to check for leaks and teste drive , by end of day thursday , no car , finally friday im told , car is all set , over the weekend , car was leaking transmission fluid , i thought they thorougly checked this out but im guessing that was not the case , my wife brings back on monday , going on a solid two weeks now , they fix leak , telling my wife it was a transmission line that they overlooked , get car back that day , no more leak but now have exhaust issues and when car went in and was super quiet , brought to a diiferent repair place that i actually respect and know they know what there doing , they fixed my exhaust in 3 hours and it cost me another $500 , mechanic told me whoever did previous work obviously put back together very shotty with incorrect parts . SO THERE YOU GO , UNCLES TRANSMISSION , SMITHFIELD RI , AVOID AT ALL COSTS , go to Robs Transmission Warwick this guy is a Pro !! I've had several of my vehicle transmissions replaced at Uncle's. I actually have my vehicles towed from the southern part of Rhode Island specifically to them. In reading some of the other reviews, I'm amazed at anything negative said. The owner, Eric is a pretty stand up guy. No nonsense who says it like it is, which may not sit well with people that have thin skin or used to being coddled. Aside from that, I've never dealt with a person that takes his skills so seriously. Transmission repair has got to be insane to master with all the components involved. (See pic)especially on a BMW or Mercedes. But one time I asked if those or Jaguars turned him off, and he said to me "I love the challenge" To me, that is someone that shows pride in his workmanship. I did notice that he's had a few guys come and go. That was something else that came up in conversation. His comment in that regard, " Rebuilding transmissions is a very in depth art. If I hire someone that claims to have "extensive" experience in rebuilding and they don't, if I can't train a person with potential to grow.. I have to replace them. I can't tolerate sub par workmanship or comebacks." Again, that means something to me. The bonus is, they do other mechanical repair work where other shops either wont, or send it out and juice the bill at your expense. Not at Uncle's. As for waiting periods, one of my vehicles was a Chrysler Town & Country with All Wheel Drive. The vehicle was back on the road in no time. But, a Cadillac CTS, had to wait for some additional parts to come in. (Surprisingly enough, you can't stock every part for every vehicle) But I imagine some people don't get it and want instant gratification unfortunately. Sad, but true. No worries here, and will continue having my work done by them. read more

Had them swap over internals from a busted transmission case to one that they had. Once I got it installed and my car running I had no overdrive and it was slipping and having trouble going into gear. Called and he said bring it in. SIX WEEKS LATER the car was no better and there was no communication from them. I finally picked up and was told that not much they could do. I wasn't charged but was told they tried numerous valve bodies and couldn't get it right. I get the car back and adjust the transmission myself. I now have all gears and no slipping. My opinion is that they NEVER touched the car at all. In fact my sat so long it drained the battery and they wanted to sell me a new one. I would stay away from here. If they were at least honest and communicated with me I wouldn't leave this review. read more

I have brought cars here in the past just for transmission oil changes. I never really had any problems. Last year I tried to make an appointment for another oil change but was told I would get a call back. Waited 3 days never gpt a call back. Guess the don't need the business so I went elsewhere. I would not return here now especially after reading some of these recent reviews. read more

Stay away from this place! Long story short, drove my wife's car there to have it worked on, had to tow it to another shop two weeks later. After having it there for a week they said it wouldn't start, after a week later of them not even looking at it, they wanted to charge me for diagnostic fee's for trying to figure out why it wouldn't run. $500 bucks!!! When I got it to the new shop, they found with in 5 minutes that is was because some one removed the fuel pump fuse. Again stay away from this place, they are scam artists. Dropped off my car there 5 weeks ago all they did was steel the CD player and battery every time I call all I get is a story already have given them $2100 and went to get the car today and he wanted another $1100 and they have not done one thing to the car. We were recommended by N. Providence Tire and auto....I have a Honda CRV with transmission issues. We told them that the car was not driveable and would need a truck to transport. A guy from Uncles (anthony) shows up to drive it from Mineral Spring Avenue to their address in Smithfield. Apparently he didn't understand that Non-driveable means you can't drive it but he drove it anyway. He broke down on 44 and somehow got it to Larch St....which is up a HUGE hill.....the transmission having issues would not go....he proceeded to drive the car up the hill in REVERSE. Now the car isn't moving at all and the engine light is on. We were told by Herb Chambers it needed solonoids. My step-father was hoping to have it fixed at a bit of a less expense so wanted the opinion of someone else.....they told us we needed a $4000 transmission. When I went inside the office to ask where Anthony was I was told that he was "gone for the day"....I blatantly told him that because he drove the car, it's worse than what it was and if he ruined the transmission any more they would be liable. I was then approached by another service person and asked where Anthony was and was told "he's in the back".....hiding probably.... I proceeded to get screamed at through the service area telling me I didn't know what I was talking about. The "kid" then says "I'll come out there and code it right now and we'll see what it needs".....so he did. Guess what the code said? Solonoids!!!! NO KIDDING. I have never been treated this way by anyone and if we find out the car was made worse because he drove it, we will get an attorney. When the AAA flatbed arrived to take the car out of there I asked the tow truck driver if he knew anything about this place and his exact words were..."let me put this way, we tow a lot of cars here and we tow a lot out"......that says it all. Dont bring your car there. I bought a car from them and r days later it broke down they said if anything went wrong they would take care of it I payed 165$ for a tow there and they called me saying I had to pay 115$ for part and labor. The mechanic did not put it on the lift to remove the part as he should have and broke the piece off in my transmission called me and told me it would be another 200$ in labor when it was there mistake they have now had my car for 3 weeks and couldn't figure out why it had no spark a mechanic would know this so I had to have it towed yet again to another mechanic shop to have it fixed they don't return calls and they are lying hacks read more

Sorely disappointed. They kept our car for a month, did not return phone calls and when we did receive our car we were unhappy with the results. It's been just over a month and another transmission shop has our vehicle. They said many parts that should have been replaced were not and much of the work that should have been done was not done.
