I have been In the middle of a very complicated project that began as a 1984 Chevy C10 and morphed into nearly a full restomod LS2 swapped turbo lowered monster with a 05 GTO T56 6 speed and a Ford 9 inch rear end. I've been building and fabricating this entire thing on my own and didn't realize along the process that I was building in some mistakes that I did not know how to fix without going backwards quite a bit so here's the two issues that I didn't know how to solve so I started calling around.... The first issue is I couldn't find a starter that would fit this combination of iron LS motor with a truck 168 tooth flywheel and a GTO T56. I had been through five different starters trying to figure it out and I was about to bite the bullet and pull the transmission out and potentially remove and replace the flywheel that was very expensive that I couldn't return mainly because the T56 has a smaller less tooth flywheel also this trans has a tiny dust cover the snout of the starter has to fit through. After calling at least eight different transmission shops across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. I got a hold of Kyle at World Class Transmissions After the rest didn't even want to listen. It was a Friday and they were closed, but he answered the phone. Not knowing each other and not having to work that day he spent at least an hour and a half asking questions taking text message pictures and eventually was able to make some recommendations. I thought I never would've thought of that, let me try it. So I ordered the parts (more to come in that....) Ok, problem 2.... the trans from a GTO from 2005 came with a fixed yoke (no slip yoke) and a special two piece drive shaft. Well that will not work in an old C10. You need a Slip yolk so that when the suspension goes up and down, it can move in and out of the Transmission because I didn't want to have a $1500 custom two piece driveshaft. From what I could find, I needed to disassemble the transmission and change to an F body tail housing to be able to switch to a slip yolk and have a normal one piece driveshaft. Kyle had me send him some pictures and for whatever reason, according to him, I already had the correct tail housing and all I needed to change was the rear output shaft seal and buy the correct slip yoke. After talking me through all the part numbers that he looked up and sent to me, and by the way, he looked up and sent me the part number for the starter as well, I finished ordering all the parts and I told him I'd let him know how it went. A month went by. I hadn't had a chance to get the truck back up in the air on the lift because I had been working on other things and I got a text message out of nowhere from Kyle checking in to see how things went. Who does that? Especially from someone you don't know and you haven't ever been in business together. Needless to say, I was blown away that he remembered and cared. So I got the truck in the air, pulled the seal and boom It's just like he said. Installed new seal and slip yoke and that problem was solved with no trans removal and it cost me $60 and 20 min. Now the starter..... I had my doubts as this was the 6th starter but I had high hopes due to the other huge win from Kyles advice. Not only did it bolt right in but I temporarily wired it to check and it turned over the new motor like smooth as butter. Both of these issues could have easily been thousands of dollars and weeks of time but this dude helped a stranger for nothing and i'm in much better shape towards getting this truck done. Thanks Kyle. Keep doing what you are doing. That's what I call old school good people. - Justin read more
