I have brought my 2007 328i Bmw to the Cranston station for the last 5 years. I was always satisfied with the results. This last time I went to the Cranston location with my BMW not so much. The rear window would not work. I was quoted $725 to fix the issue. I was under the gun because I was selling the car within a few days. I went to YouTube. and the issue came up very quickly on what was needed. I was charged $275 for the part which was the wrong part. I did not need the motor nothing wrong with it. I told the guys you need to clear the yellow code after the repair. Christian nodded his head like yup. When I was told the car was ready. I asked if code had been cleared . Yes I was told no problem. I paid the outrageous bill.. For in the car code NOT cleared . I waited 45 mins no luck. I had to leave and come back. I will never bring my car to these guys again JOKE. Well, on a whim, I gave J&S in Warwick a call, and now they're my go-to for basic services. (Because knock on wood, I haven't needed anything beyond an oil change and routine service yet.) I have been taking my vehicles to the Cranston location for over 4 yrs. I am dumbfounded by what my last repair on my vehicle not only cost, but revealed about this business and its employees. About a week ago I brought my vehicle in for an inspection. They found I needed a rear tire and should replace the other rear to match tread wear (agreed). They also noted that I needed rear brakes and rotors and suggested brakes and rotors all around. They priced them at close to $1200. I did them for less than $400. They also said I had a hole in an exhaust pipe near the resonator. I told the to go ahead...BIG MISTAKE! They told me they had some of the exhaust parts but would have to order a piece. After the repairs and a sticker I was at over $2000. When I picked up my vehicle, as I started it, it made a loud clunk and rattling sound for several seconds. I brought it back and the Tech told me it was nothing they did. He took it for a ride but it did not make the noise again. After I took the vehicle home again, the days following the car made those same noises every time it was started. I started researching possible problems, but decided to take it to another repair shop. Without telling them about my repairs from J&S, I asked if they could find the source of the noise. About 2 1/2 hrs later they called me and stated they found the issue. THIS is the unbelievable part. The employees at J&S cut the two steel exhaust protection plates under the vehicle to fit this obviously wrong piece of pipe into my exhaust system. They didn't ask me or recommend any other fix. Not only that, but loosened the right side motor mount bolts and never retightened them, hence the noises. J&S Cranston location literally cut/damaged my vehicle for a price of over $2000. Stay away...real possibility that your vehicle may be damaged in their version of a repair. read more

J & S Auto Repair, Cranston RI: I was looking around for a new mechanic and my one requirement was the shop had to have a lot large enough to accommodate a flat bed truck on the occasion my 2004 vehicle needed a tow which was 2x in the last year. I made an appointment to address a few issues and have new tires put on. The staff was professional, texted a link listing all repair items with itemized pricing, and you can accept or reject each item. I had a few follow up questions and contacted them for clarification and they answered all my questions. I had my vehicle back the same day. As for pricing, getting my vehicle fixed always seems to be an expensive proposition so I'm not in a position to evaluate their pricing. My philosophy is generally - please fix what's causing the issue and don't do a complete assessment as that generally leaves me pondering a large bill and unable to evaluate what is actually necessary. I did not communicate that to J & S. However, in this case, it worked in my favor. I'd had a lot of work that needed to be done but had forgotten about a few smaller items that needed attention. Does he not know it is 2025 and we can almost instantly fact check the pope? Yea even people that are older than you Can do that. Have had nothing but issues with my girls car sense they change the staring rack. We've brought it back multiple times and they say nothing is wrong with it.brought it to another mechanic just to be told everything was loose they put in included the struts. Now come to find out they never changed all the parts the stated do including the inner and outter tierods including the control arms are all bad and front tires are bald due to them not fixing or correct the promblem so I will be contacting the better business burrow and news if I have to. Not happy at all I do not recommend going to this shop at all it's been a headache from day one. read more

I have a 2012 Ford Escape that developed several electric/electronic issues over time. I initially brought my vehicle to my regular mechanic, and they had the vehicle for 4 days, and were unable to diagnose/fix the problems. To their credit they were very apologetic. The general concensus was to try my local Ford dealer in East Greenwich. I have been doing business with this dealer since 1979 (not service, buying vehicles only) and their response to me was we're booking into November! I find this attitude extremely offputting, do they really expect someone to wait 3 or 4 months to get a vechicle repaired. This is where J&S Auto comes into the picture. I read several of their reviews, and found one from a fellow I used to work with, so I decided to give them a call. Spoke with Rick, and laid everything out to him. He was a bit skeptical at first, but gave me an appointment for the following week. (Not November!) I brought the vehicle in, and they did their diagnosis, and came back to me with a very professionally written estimate so that I could see everything that needed to be done. Now, I will say it turned out to be rather pricey, not the neighborhood guy that works cheap, but you get what you pay for. The work was done by professionals, the communication was excellent, and the most important thing is the vehicle is running great. This place is worthless. They waste all of their time sending you links for service and recording a video of them diagnosing your car instead of just working on it. They sent me a video "condemning" my car and said they wouldn't work on it. I had it towed to another shop that had it back on the road the next day after replacing 2 spark plugs and cycling my transmission fluid. Ridiculous. It's never a great day when an unexpected issue comes up with your vehicle. A routine oil change turned into a horror story when the plug on my pan snapped right off. I (luckily) have an extensive warranty and even before I was towed to J & S Auto (referred to me by the shop I purchased my vehicle from originally) Rick spoke to me and assured me they would take a look and advocate for me with our warranty company. I went from a "this never happens" scenario to discovering that my vehicle's manufacturer keeps oil pans in stock *because* these issues occur so often. Long story short, J & S were able to get everything covered under warranty *and* moreover, when they had the car on the lift, they noted that my brakes and rotors needed replacing. This was an unexpected fix (I've put less than 7k on, but these parts were original from manufacturing!) and I'll admit the sticker shock was a little overwhelming. However, I have never had a mechanic's shop work so hard with me to get the lowest possible price for the best possible materials before. Never. Not only did J & S bend over backward to help me, but Rick kept in constant phone and e-mail communication the entire time. My quote was sent to me in writing, and the costs ended up being *less* than originally anticipated. I queried about routine service, and a full-synthetic oil change is almost half as expensive as going to one of those roll-in/roll-out shops. I am sold. Completely and utterly. read more

Do NOT bring your car to J&S! Been dealing with a service manager full of attitude since I was introduced to him! Brought my car in for check engine codes(Specifically p0017)and after diagnosing they said they could do the work and ran me just under 4000!! Specifically stated wanted it back with no check engine! After the work was "completed" received my car back with the check engine light STILL on.(originally "fixed" 2022) Fast forward to February 2023 and my light is still on. Went in and spoke with the service manager about how I just want my car fixed should've been when I spent just about 4000! He wanted to do absolutely squat outside of be condescending and rude. Mentioned I had brought to Hurd auto for 2nd opinion and Hurd stated they didn't do the work they should've and it would run another 4000 to fix what they couldn't!!!! After looking over the write up from Hurd stating they should've did the timing chain they repeatedly disagreed and the service manager only offered to redo the sensors. The least possible hit to them while again I had to eat they did 4000 worth of incorrect work! I said I just wanted my car fixed. They scheduled to take it in and fix again. Get the car back and no light thank God! Think my issues are over!!! WRONG!!!!!!!! SAME CODE comes back a month and a half later! Pretty interesting they advertise a warranty on their work but don't want do the actual work or make a wrong right! sent my truck for misfire cylinder replaced spark plug and coil as it was there guess. 204.00 after warranty. still existing. paid 1,050.00 for all plugs and coils. Still existing. then they admit they used cheaper coils not compatible to original. they changed that. still existing. I went to auto zone pulled code cylinder 2 dropped it off. manager Steve said couldn't find the code then a loud mouth tech came out asked how I knew it was a code. I said autozone he said the or if code is still there. they both contradicted themselves. bottom line they are not a Repair Facility and CANT repair everything. I recently had a lot of work done to my car and it was honestly the best experience I've ever had at a repair shop. I'm hooked now and recommend them to everyone! The manager, Rick, is very patient, knowledgeable, friendly. I really can't say enough nice things. He communicates in a clear way and truly has the customer's best interest in mind. While traveling to work back in May, the front passenger ball joint failed on my mustang. I promptly called AAA who brought the car to J&S Auto on my request. The repair took a few days (as well as multiple phone calls to get a status) before I was able to pick it up and get back on the road. Shortly after, I noticed that there was more damage to the car than just the ball joint. When that failed, the wheel well fell onto the tire causing damage to both the wheel well liner and more importantly, the body of the car. The liner now hangs halfway between the original position and the tire itself. The body is bent and the paint at that spot is chipping. Joseph, the owner(or one of) from J&S auto would periodically text me up to this point asking if my vehicles were in need of service. If I texted him back to say yes or ask a question, he would promptly reply. After this incident I texted him the entire story and expressed how disappointed I was that the shop never once said anything about the other damage (other than the ball joint). I never got a reply. Here we are in August and I received another message from Joseph asking if I could bring in any more business. Yet again, I sent the same text message from May...and yet again no reply. The repair for the ball joint came to $500 with a ball joint only costing $50 or so. With all of that "labor" that they spent...you think they would made note of the additional damage AND told me about it. At this point, any additional repairs will cost me MORE because of the labor required to take the tire back off...when it could have been resolved all in one fell swoop. I recommend this shop. I first went here using a Groupon deal a few years back. This was when they were located at the challenging spot close to the Warwick rotunda. Back then, the owner had just opened shop. My deal kept me coming back 3x for an oil change. I was happy with my service and their rates. I would have continued had it not been for the inconvenient location but I certainly have not forgotten this place. I was glad to see they moved to the current Roseland Av location, close to the airport and the 37 and 95 exits. I definitely will go back next time I need a maintenance service. read more

Rick over there at JnS is the MAN! I purchased my car from carmax and when I called to get warranty work done they referred me to J N S(glad they did). Brought my car down there with a ton of issues. Rick made the process as easy as possible. The guy honestly went out of his way to get my business. 1- Rick called my warranty company for me 2- He scheduled me a rental car that was covered by my warranty 3- Warranty company's are always a pain in the ass but Rick called em did all the leg work got them to pay without having me wait long. 4- I ended up paying less that what my original deductible was! 5- probably my favorite part of my experience was when I picked up my car it was WAXED AND DETAILED! Like I said these guys went above and beyond for my car. Thank you Rick. Overall service was good but i wouldn't come here for transmission work. They replaced my valve body and spent over $2,000 but it never fixed the problem. Had to take my car to the dealership where they replaced the valve body they put in and flush out and replace the transmission fluid. Dealership said it looked like it was never replaced or flushed out. If they thought they couldn't do the work they should've been honest and sent me somewhere else instead of having to waste $2000. read more

They forgot to replace the cap back on to my headlight. The only reason I ever even found out was when my dealership service popped the hood and showed the cap just resting there on top of the battery!! How am I going to pay $45+ for a new headlight and you cannot even double check your work for completion? So for months I was driving around like that with no idea. I brought my car in to recharge the A/C and to get my wheels changed over. As soon as I started the car the A/C still wasn't cold at all. I took it to another shop who refilled the refrigerant and it has been cold ever since. They did a good job with the wheels but I wasn't pleased that the A/C was still warm. Once a loyal customer, I have to say I'm upset and distraught. I took my new car to Joe for an oil change earlier this summer, and after one day, began to smell oil and smoke. Turns out, the wrong filter was put on. This led to a massive oil leak which sprayed over everything under the hood and all over the ground. The filter was put on so tightly it needed to be pried off. Joe did not assume responsibilty for the mistake, but assured me he would do whatever it took to make it right. So, I took the car to the Toyota dealership to get cleaned and had the engine compression checked. Luckily, there wasn't major engine damage to the brand new car. However, a couple months later, I was still smelling smoke, which I'd hoped would just burn off from running the car. The dealership informed me the sepentine belt still had oil on it and would need to be replaced as the oil would eventually weaken the rubber. And anyone that has ever worn a belt out knows this can be bad news... Anyways, I informed Joe and he refused to take care of it, renegging on his oath to make sure the vehicle was back in order. I will never take my car back to him, and I am sorely disappointed with the incident and service. If I could give 0 stars right now, I would. read more

I took our 2006 Subaru Forester to J & S using a Groupon for AC service. Owner Joe Hoyle took care of the maintenance and explained that he was unable to get a replacement cabin air filter in time but I could return in a couple of days to have that installed. I was unaware there was a cabin filter, so he could easily just have not mentioned it at all. Joe noticed that the Forester was idling too low and recommended a thorough fuel induction cleaning, which he could do for a very reasonable price. We had in fact been aware of this issue, and even occasional stalling, so I made an appointment to have the service done when I returned for the cabin filter. In an hour the car was ready to go, and the idling problem was gone. Both the AC and the idle have since been excellent, with just over a month elapsed since Joe's service. I learned that Joe has had a lot of past experience in working for auto dealerships but left to start his own business. I will certainly return to J & S for future work and highly recommend the shop. Another reviewer noted the tricky business of making the turn from Post Road onto Kent Ave. The problem is that before you get there you would normally bear left to stay on Post Rd. instead of bearing right onto Rte 117, and then need to quickly get over to the far right lane for Kent Ave., which is difficult when cars are coming up fast. My solution: bear right at that rotary and then immediately pull into a parking lot on the right. When traffic allows just pull out onto 117 heading left and then you're soon on Post Rd.; take the third right (after Shippee and Locust Aves.) onto Kent. read more
