Traffic is heard all waking hours. If you're idea is to go camping and only hear the birds singing, the water flowing in the creek and the wind blowing through the trees, think again. We were in space 21 next to the restrooms and there is a fan that runs 24/7 blowing the air from the "pit" out a vent pipe that runs above the roof. Fortunately, 90% of the time the wind was blowing away from us but occasionally we were hit by the stench of the vault toilet perfume. The fire pits are not buried so be prepared to use more wood if you're cooking over the fire. The second part of this review is regarding the camp hosts. 1 star (there's no 0 star choice). They are militant. After we had set up camp and were starting our fire to cook dinner, the husband/wife duo came into camp, clipboard tucked in the arm of the lady. The first thing she said as they approached was "that's a lot of smoke there". Looking into the fire pit, she said, "oh, pine needles. That's why. You should use pine cones. They don't smoke as much. But you have a flat fire, not a teepee. That's good news". The husband instructed to use two buckets of water to put out the fire. And stir with a stick to make a slurry. And it's good to keep 4-6 oz of water in a small bottle nearby when cooking to help control the fire too. Really? Next the husband said let's go over the rules. No camp showers. No noise between 10pm and 8am. No generators after hours. No loud radios. Musical instruments are ok. There was more but I don't remember it all. They made rounds in their golf cart every hour or so. Camp hosts were around the entire time we were there. I'd never seen anything like it. They were rude and insulting, treating us like we were children. I've been camping for 50 years. Not my first time around the block. But this was the first time I've been insulted and bothered so much by a camp host. They said they were coming back to host next year. For that reason alone we will avoid this campground.

It's conveniently located and nicely maintained. I really appreciate the ice and wood service they provide. The camp hosts are typically super friendly and relaxed. This summer however- I did notice that one of the male camp hosts was a little bit over the top when it comes to surveillance. He seemed hyper vigilant and I felt "watched" - which is not the most comfortable feeling as a woman camping in the woods. Other than that- we always love this camp ground and appreciate the wonderful camp hosts and beautiful natural wonders!

It was awesome to just BE in nature with loved ones…read more It's beautiful... we stayed in Loop C - site 55 tent only site with zero hook ups. Our friends brought an RV and it was so fun to experience the campground together. It's a big campsite with 4 other loops surrounding the lake PLUS day use passes with no fee available! If you don't have kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, you can rent them by the hour at the Black Bear Shack which also serves up some XL size slushies and yummy ol' fashioned ice cream all the necessities you may want like ice, wood, etc. Although you can't swim in the lake, the fishing is GREAT and so is the size of the lake to let the littles go explore on their own in a kayak! It did rain on us one night but was welcomed coming from Phoenix! Also campfires are allowed so yay for s'mores, story telling and just intentional family time. We will be back for sure. We had the best time!! And yes port-o-potties are the main option but thank God for baby wipes and honestly, amazing hosts who kept it clean and the smell manageable.

Unfortunately, we couldn't have a fire due to fire restrictions. However, we were able to bring our own gas-powered fire pit. I'm glad my husband checked the website a few days prior to our reservation, otherwise we wouldn't have known. It would be nice to get informed by email if you have a reservation about fire restrictions, because if we didn't bring our blackstone to make our food, I would have been very upset. Before arriving, I did some research on the black bear shack that our friends told us about, but sadly found out they are not at this campground anymore. The road coming in is extremely bumpy and rough. When leaving the campground, I recommend going left instead of right. Our cars needed a very good car wash after! The campground is very beautiful. The weather was perfect; in the 50s at night and high 70s in the afternoon. I would definitely camp here again.

Cons: *The space heater only works occasionally and the furnace heater cannot warm the rooms as much - it can get chilly in the rooms at night so ask for another one from the office since it can get pretty cold when you sleep. *The dirt path going to your RV/trailer is very rough and has too many holes. Apparently a few years ago you could drive in, but just a note, the road was closed when we got there and we had to hike to the meadows (it was worth it). Best time to go is in the fall. Lockett Meadow is just outside of the town of Flagstaff at the base of the San Francisco Peaks. The peaks themselves are the remains of an extinct volcano. There is a small campground and many dispersed sites at Lockett Meadow that offers nice scenic views of the San Francisco Peaks. The road itself to Inner Basin Trailhead sucks. It is narrow and bumpy. Be extra careful driving up this road as it barely has room for one car. The road closes up in the winter season. The parking lot holds around a hundred cars and fills up fast, so plan to get there early. The trailhead is beautiful and shaded by aspen trees. I love when the sunlight peaks through the trees. There might some snow on the ground if you do this hike in the Fall. I personally think the snow adds beauty to your photos when there are leaves on the ground. The trail joins with the Waterline Trail briefly before you you get to the Inner Basin area where it connects to the Weatherford Trail. There is also a service road that you have to walk on briefly. The inner Basin Trailhead is a loop and is around 3.5 miles. There are lots of spots to stop and take photos along the way so plan on the hike being a few hours if you are a photogenic person. This is a really pretty hike, just a crappy drive to get to it.

doesn't recommend Interstate 40 Grand Canyon RV Park & Campground…read more June 18, 2021 · I don't even know where to begin on my review of the Interstate 40 Grand Canyon RV Park & Campground. Web site is nonexistent so don't try to get any information there. This place has a laundry room with six washers and six dryers which is great for a park of this size. At the time of our stay, three washers and one dryer actually work. The laundry area is locked up most of the time unless you can track down the manager to open it. Last load is at noon so they can lock it up by 2PM other than this, there are no standard hours. Similar issue with the pool. Manager reported that it is locked because people who are not staying in the park come and use it. There is also major problems with the electric in the park. as well as the water supply. Did not have water for 8 days with no communication on access to what may have been available. Bathrooms with rust eating away on the shower partitions, No compensation or pro rate for no water for 8 days. One area of about 17 sites are wired for 50 amp service and they are all on one 200 amp service. I'm not an electrician but the math on this does not add up. Our site was supposed to be 110 volt/30 amp service and while the breaker is 30 amp, today there is only about 96 volts. The rules for the place are taped to the walls in and out of the office (every where) or scribbled on white boards in the laundry area. Be warned, they do not provide any refunds of any kind. Even when they don't provide the services you paid for. I am unsure of how they have any accreditation with Good Sam with the current management and condition of the facilities. Will write a note to Good Sam as well. I should have taken a hint from my first impressions and kept on driving. Will NEVER stay here again and would only recommend it to my worst emenies.

After the legendary Flintstone village replica had yet another near-extinction event, the current owners maintained the relics while adding a small zoo. If you're exploring the area, you HAVE to drop by. There's nothing else like it. You can enter by paying for admission at the register of the convenience store. If you paid a little extra for the pouches of animal feed, the group of goats outside will be happy to see you. There are a few alpacas, too! On the opposite end are some giant bird cages filled with falcons and other raptors. Of course, the star of the show lies in the old buildings modeled after Fred Flintstone's neighborhood. His home, the jail, and the salon--every building here is its own little exhibit. You can explore and take plenty of photos; the architecture is something to be appreciated. This is simply something every Arizonan should see at least once.

You walk inside and there's a gift shop with a food stand in the back. They have some fresh produce-- apples, oranges, bananas, and I saw you could ask for tomatoes, peppers, and some other stuff. The coolers were filled with bottled drinks and beer. There were tables to sit at and a small counter to order food. We ordered our dinner -- they mostly had wings, burgers, a couple sides, and ice cream. My husband got buffalo wings (10), mozzarella sticks (10), and the five piece chicken tenders for the kids, plus 2 Gatorades and it was $52. I wasn't super hungry and figured I would pick at whatever was left. My husband said the wings were good! I tasted the sauce and it was flavorful but not overly hot. I did end up eating some of the kids' tenders and they were probably some of the better ones we've had in the area. You can definitely eat outside, so ask for your orders to go! I think the price for adults to enter the park is $10, slightly lower for kids, and, I believe, kids under 3 were free. Like it said though, active duty military and their families get in free. Either way, I would have paid for the experience if we had to. If you even remotely like dinosaurs or the Flinstones, you'll love it here. The park is very nostalgic, see my attached pictures! Lots of photo opportunities for the whole family, a slide, swings, and peddle karts that you can "race" on a track through the volcano. They also have animals-- sheep, goats, an alpaca, various kinds of birds. The animal exhibits made me a little sad, especially the birds. There was animal feed for the goats, sheep, and alpaca and it looked like there was a little stage and seating for shows. We stayed until they closed at 8! I bought my son a shirt and myself a hoodie. If we were in the area again when the kids were older, I'd definitely take them back. It was fun for wll ages!

The RV spots are just a parking lot, too close to really even use an awning and sit outside. It's a very quiet park with decent restrooms/showers. Could be cleaner. There is no grass within walking distance for a dog, Do NOT use the dog boarding. Upon arriving to pick up my dog, he had no access to the outdoors and his water bowl was completely empty. She said that she had just cleaned and shut his outside access "10 minutes ago". We were several hours early to pick him up, so what if we had waited?! I wish I could review this separately, but don't see it listed on here, so at least I can try and let others know on here.
