The staff is always friendly and helpful. There's a dedicated section for shoes on the other side of the store, which is a nice addition. Their products are great quality for the price. One of the few shops around that doesn't make you take a mortgage out to get some products. Their Black Friday Sale is also super legit and I always walked out happy as ****. The store is also huge and the decor is on point. The exterior is so unassuming. Hyped that they opened a Newark location closer to home, but this location can fit two of those. Huge shoutout to Mark the owner who deserves more than 5 stars! It was recently my girlfriends son's birthday and I purchased him a dope Supreme board, but needed all the add ons to complete it (hardware, trucks, wheels, bearings, grip, etc). Due to this Covid pandemic we weren't able to take the board to the store and get it done there , but Mark was extremely helpful and guided me along the way via Instagram dm, told me everything I needed and even assembled the trucks/wheels/bearings for me.. he was very responsive and his customer service was aces.. kudos to him and his store and I will only be purchasing gear/equipment from him. Inside looks great and they have a wide selection of clothes, shoes, decks, wheels, etc. Showed up near closing one time while they were limiting customers but stayed open a little longer just for me to pick up some trucks. Great spot for your skating needs when in Jersey. read more

Mark is the man. We visited this place last summer and had a great experience. The selection was great and the prices were reasonable compared to what we have here in CA. Mark was very approachable and answered all of our questions-and gave honest feedback on products he recommended without trying to upsell the most expensive stuff. I felt very comfortable and at home here even though I'm a poser ( I push mongo)-but I felt like a legit skater because of the chill vibe. Ordered shoes from them through amazon. The shoes didn't fit so i had to send them back. Unfortunately the return slip was sent to a discontinued email. No problem. I paid for the postage and sent shoes back to shop with the original receipt. A week later i still wasn't refunded. I emailed the owner and he kept giving me a run around about needing more information. He had everything he needed. Receipt, Check. Order number, Check. Shoes in box, Check. Yet this still wasn't enough and told me he'll see what he can do. I emailed him a couple more times with no response. I guess he is comfortable with keeping the shoes and my money. Contacted Amazon and they decided to refund my money, which took 2 hours on phone. They said they will go after the shop personally. I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUY ANYTHING FROM THE SHOP ONLINE. read more

Called out this shop by falling for the media hype regarding unfortunate circumstances in a particular part of our country on the issue of race and politics. I wrongly labeled this shop, and as a black man who hates being labeled and or grouped, I should know better. I'm embarrassed and upset at myself for my behavior and no amount of apology will make things right. I was immediately contacted by someone from this shop explaining their position and was set straight in a very nice and adult way. Still sitting here shocked and touched by the reaction and love shown by Mark Mathews, can't explain how a few simple words has completely changed me. As a testament to their service, I was immediately sent free stickers that I received in two days, I can't get this type of service from anyone unless I pay huge amounts of money. Love this guy, and I will go out of my way to talk up this man and this shop. I know longer skateboard, falling hurts, turned to snowboarding, but I'm looking to purchase a board and tool around a bit with my nephews while I still can. You know where I will be ordering from! I'm new to skateboarding, and as someone who is new to the sport, "old" (for skateboarding!), and female, I was a little nervous about going to a skate shop. Were they going to mock me? Ignore me? Would they assume I was buying stuff for my boyfriend or son? My fears were totally unfounded. The salesman was extremely friendly, helpful, non-judgmental, and took the time to help me pick out the best skateboard for my needs. He didn't seem interested in upselling, and asked what I was looking to spend, and pointed me towards boards in my range that suited my needs. The store itself is clean and non cluttered, and they seem to have a large selection of boards, parts, shoes, and clothing. It was a really great shopping experience. Also, I'm really pleased with the board I got and I've been having a lot of fun skating! Would definitely go back to Underground in the future. read more

We took our 9 year old daughter to buy her first skateboard at Underground Sakate Shop in Nutley. She had been riding mine and was ready to have her own. I was really impressed with the shop itself. Organized, clean, lot's of boards and accessories. Mark was very helpful. He showed us how the boards were sized and recommended a board up to 8 inches wide. My daughter picked the deck and Mark recommended the trucks and wheels. What did she get? The deck is by Sleep, Venture trucks, Krooked Zip Zinger wheels and a Triple Eight helmet. We had a great experience at Underground. This a real skateboard shop. She is shredding it up as much as a 9 year old can. We are glad we did not settle for a board from a big box store. read more
