Thanks for a solid job by Andrew to help reshape the boot we had already to adjust for some growing pains. He's happy to let you try it out and come back and make more adjustments, and he's spent a lot of time working through different options with us so we didn't have to buy another boot. He's also let us try different boots, and will order more to size if we want to try them. Of course, like any shop, once you put on the blades, you can't return them, but he has consigned a few boots in the past from his prior skaters. He'll give you his opinion on what works, of course, but he hasn't pressured us to buy anything we didn't want, and he's not selling some crazy expensive custom soles or similar stuff. He also works across the street in the Codey Ice Rink, so you can go to a freestyle/public/club session if you schedule with him and try out boots to come back and do more adjustments, which is helpful. They also sell a bunch of skateboard and in-line/roller skate equipment here. read more

TLDR: The worst skate sharpening I as well as the employees at a hockey store have ever seen. Awful customer service. -5 stars I would give this place zero stars if I could. I called ahead and asked if they would sharpen my hockey skates. The gentleman on the phone said his boss would be between certain hours and he could do it. So I went during those hours but the boss wasn't there. I needed my skates sharpened that day and the guy at the counter said he could do it. I told him I'd be back in an hour and he said not to worry, they'd be done in 30 min, makes sense considering I was the only customers. When I got back an hour later my skates were sitting in the same place I left them, unsharpened. Right when I walked in the guy picked up my skates and got started. When I stepped on the ice that night I had no edges. I couldn't stop or turn. It felt like I was wearing rollerbladers on the ice. I took them to a hockey shop the next day and the employees there laughed when they saw my blades. They even remarked how I must not have been able to stop or turn. They had to fix the blades and a bunch of employees came by to check just how bad my skates were. If this figuring skating store told me they couldn't sharpen my skates I wouldn't have complained and would've totally understood, since they were honest and it's not their expertise. Just don't go here...Andrew ended up selling me a pair of skates that were too big. I went back to him after I started having problems, and he stated that he thought my feet were the problem. I went to doctors and a couple more skate fitters, and it turns out that the skates were too big. BEWARE this shop for fittings, sharpenings are okay, though expensive. read more

I would have to disagree with the bad review regarding Andrew. He is professional and knowledgeable and goes out of his way to make sure you get the best skate appropriate for your level. He spent quite a lot of time helping my daughter select a new pair of skates and making sure that she was happy with her final decision. He is a very nice guy and very helpful and perhaps the earlier review was more of a personality issue and not Andrew's fault. He seems to be reserved, but friendly, and quietness can be misinterpreted as arrogance. I have nothing but good things to say about him and the services he provides at the Edge Skate Shop. If you're looking for "warm and fuzzy" he may not be the right person for you, but if you want an expert on skating he's your guy! read more

My daughter went to see Andrew to get sized for Edea Chorus skates because they were good for her level of skating. When we drove the 2 hours to get there on our way back from vacation, he measured her foot and sized her in an Edea Piano boot. About a week and a half later, he says the Edea Chorus skates are in. We drove 2 hours in traffic to go get the skates and they did not fit her at all. Way too tight. Out of complete frustration because I did not want to drive all the way to East Orange again, I suggested she buy the Edea Piano's because that was the boot that she tried on in the first place and it fit her well. Against my daughter's better judgment, she knew they were too advanced and not right for her skating level, we bought them. Since I know nothing about the skating world, I would have hoped Andrew would have been honest and said don't get these. He said, she will grow into them and get used to them. The first time she tried them on the ice she almost fell right on her face and she could not use them. She has not used them since. I think Andrew and his staff have some growing to do. Not to mention, while we were there, a wall full of skates came tumbling down and hit my son. This shop seems unprofessional and I will not be going back. I've been there and bought twice and now I am done. Andrew didn't care when my daughter told Andrew that the skates were not working out. He never replied. read more

These guys are life savers. My daughter's skates (purchased elsewhere) no longer fit after 7 weeks of sleep away camp. She needed skates for an intensive synchro camp only two days away and our regular skate fitter was on vacation. Looking for *anyone* in the tri-state area who could help us, we contacted Andrew and made an appointment for the next day. Andrew drove in on Sunday, leaving his weekend plans early, to see us last minute. My daughter loves her new skates and says they fit well with no pain or blisters, after wearing them for several hours over 3 days, even while not broken in completely. Andrew is a pompous ass. He talks down to you, like you're an idiot. Buyer beware!!!! He will try to "oversell" you equipment, or try to sell you wrong size skates, just to make the sale. He treats you as if it's an inconvenience to help you. Avoid this store at all costs. A better option is Beacon Hill in summit. Greg was super helpful and super patient. Spent 90 minutes fitting my daughter for new boots, and when he attached her current blades to her new boots, he wa super meticulous about making sure they were perfect. The only shop dedicated to figure skating in the area! Has skates, tights, dresses, etc. The owner very helpful in explaining the different options and requirements for someone fairly new to the sport and just getting into the testing and competitive side of figure skating. read more
