John had done this tour about 10 years ago while in Seattle for work and has been saying for a while that we need to go- so we finally had the time to go for it. I'm still in shock over the tour- Seattle was a literal crap show from the very beginning. Building a town on a beach, with no understanding that "waste" should be far enough from the water at high tide. They did not understand and apparently the crappy situation plagued the city for decades. I heard the story of Seattle ordering "crappers" from London- the latest in new technology- which took 10 years to full the order, but the city didn't know about "plumbing". The logging town at the time build wooden pipes..... and still were trying to send the crap out into the water. tides go out, tides come in resulting in backpressure in the toilets closest to the waterfront. Meaning, if you flushed during high tide, about 6 feet of sewage water would catapult you off said John. Ohhhh- did I mention the horrific rat problem too. Eventually said logging city burned to the ground. A blessing in disguise so they might have the chance to build better. The vivid storytelling of our guide really painted a noxious, rough road of Seattle. Years ago, I had a rat run across my foot in the middle of the day, in a park, next to the Space Needle- this tour really explained a lot, lol. read more

I'm a lifelong Seattle resident, and my family was visiting for the World Cup. We brought a group of 15 people, so I tried to plan ahead by calling four times: once the day before and three times the morning of our visit to see if there would be enough room for us. Unfortunately, no one answered any of the calls, so we decided to come in and ask in person. That's when the poor customer service began. The brunette woman at the front desk (around noon on June 24) provided some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. There were two computers at the front desk, but she remained seated at one of them while the other employee handled our entire group by himself, checking everyone in, collecting payment, stamping each person's arm, and answering questions. Whenever someone in our group approached her for help, she would scoff and simply say "no" without explaining that the other employee was handling check-in. She wouldn't even help with something as simple as stamping wrists, yet at the same time she repeatedly yelled at us that the tour was about to begin and that we were taking too long. It was incredibly frustrating to be rushed by someone who refused to help move the process along. To make matters worse, one of the young children in our group was quietly drawing on a sticky note while we waited. She loudly scolded him in front of everyone, saying it wasn't allowed, to the point that he started crying. There were much kinder and more professional ways to handle that situation. By the time the tour reached a point where we had come back up to street level (about halfway through) our family was so offended by how we had been treated that we decided to leave before the tour was even over. We had been looking forward to sharing this Seattle attraction with our visiting family, but instead we walked away feeling unwelcome and disrespected. Overall, it was incredibly disappointing to be treated this way, especially after making every effort to plan ahead and bringing such a large group of paying customers. We expected to enjoy the experience, but instead we left with the impression that our business and our family were an inconvenience. A little patience, teamwork, and basic kindness would have gone a long way. read more

Three underground tunnels and one orientation tour. The underground told a lot of history. This includes the big fire in 18th century. The tour is educational and fun. Great tour over in Pioneer Square to learn some interesting history of Seattle from the 1800's. Our tour guide Adam did a great job keeping the tour interesting and fun. We did the tour the day after we did our own site seeing which ended up adding more cool facts to stuff we saw on our own on the city. I don't want to give away anything the tour tells you so I'll just say I 100% recommend anyone that's interest in history or cool facts should sign up for one of the tours. read more

I wanted to learn a bit more about the city of Seattle, and my other few friends did too. So we decided to take some time to book this tour while visiting the city. Did you know the old city lies below the current city? And they are sky lights from the underground still to this day? Truly this interactive walking tour is part old timey history, part city politics lesson, part ghost busters tour, part exercise sessions with all the walking. I appreciated our guide as she gave the nitty gritty of the folks that lived during this time. Including the "seamstresses" that were working during this time for men.. afterhours, IYKYK. The ghost story was a lil cray. And she cut the lights for a good 10 to 12 minutes (at least it felt like that), to set the mood for a spooky tale, which I was not expecting. Tickets are $20, maybe around 75 minute or less tour. Family friendly, there were a few kids in our session. I know some reviews say it depends on how good our maybe bad your tour guide is and the info/stories they decide to share, as to ones experience. That's probably true. But I feel like our tour guide, I forgot her name, was decent. We gave her a tip. There's also little gift shop after the tour. read more

My friend and I decided to do the Underground Tour and it was good. We did the first tour at 10 AM with a really funny tour guide. They walked you through some of the city underground and above ground while giving you the history. It's a neat tour. There was an incident where an unhoused person punched a guy on the tour. However, the tour guide and his boss ensured the person left. If you're in the city, do this 75 minute tour. You'll enjoy it. read more

We really like doing the haunted things and other possible paranormal tours. This one wasn't as much touted as haunted but there was always the possibility. We met and as a group we entered the underground thru a door in a back alley. Our guide gave us lots of info about how and why these were created. It was an amazing story along with the places they would Shanghai unwitting patrons tht would find themselves working on a boat some where. We took the Bill Spidels Underground Tour. It isn't quite what I thought it would be but, it was full of Seattle's history dating back to the 1850s. Kalyn was our tour guide, he had some funny jokes and alot of information on how the town was built. I thought that the majority of the tour would be winding underneath the city streets, however it is part here, then you go up to the streets, walk a bit and enter another underground enterance. Did you know that there is a city under the city? Well, this tour will not only tell you about it, but they'll walk you through some of the areas that still remain! There are several companies that offer the underground tour, and we opted on this one after looking through a few websites and reviews. They start the tour off by checking everyone in and providing them with a wristband. From there you'll watch a short video and be provided with verbal instructions for the remainder of the tour. You'll follow your guide up to the main street and down the block to a doorway that leads you back downstairs. You'll be able to see some of the historic remaining portions of what was once the original part of the city. You'll learn about how and why they build on top of it. The only part I'd say wasn't as exciting was that a couple of stops were simply areas that had some exposed brick left and the current tenants has plastered over several walls, and it was difficult to tell what was what, but overall a very neat experience. I've lived in Seattle my whole life and finally did the tour. This is a once and done . Was interesting but I left wanting more substance. I liked that our tour guide had a sense of humor, but was surprised with the type of humor. The guides do a great job, this is a lot of history to cover. Warning- Wear good walking shoes. You'll go up , down , navigate uneven ground. If you're claustrophobic, this might not be for you. Tight spaces, little air movement, dirty, webs... 60 min is plenty. - no bathrooms on the tour so go before you leave the check-in area. read more

It's interesting... be prepared for walking and steps and being in dark spaces. You aren't looking at much, it's more about the stories and history you're hearing. Nice to hear the history and understand this history behind Seattle. No mention of genocide or battles between populations. It's about poop, floods, pioneers, dumb ideas, and building this downtown area of Seattle and the waterfront. I thought it was cool but I wouldn't say it's a must do. read more

This tour was pretty much the last touristy thing we had not done over our years of travel up to Seattle. We decided to give it a shot last week while showing family around. It was slightly interesting but definitely did not live up to the hype. To begin the tour group was so large easy over 40+ people. Felt like a waiting game navigating the underground. The tour guide made some political jokes that lost a lot of people on the tour. We were on a tour of the underground and did not pay to hear about someone's political beliefs. The underground portion was kind of cool but really don't see too much. We ended up bailing on the tour early as it felt like a waste of our time. I would say save your money on this one. read more

I love history and museums and had heard about the Seattle underground tours for years. When we were in Seattle this summer, my family and I took this tour. There are several tours but after checking out Yelp (of course) I decided on this one. So glad I did! It was amazing to be walking underneath the sidewalks of Seattle. I'd known about those little purple squares of glass and how they lit up the underground area, but to see the labyrinth of hallways and old streets was fascinating. The story I most enjoyed was how people used to park their carriages on the upper level and then climb down ladders to get to the lower levels. If you get a chance, take the tour. You'll never walk the streets near Pike Place without imagining what lies below. read more

A lot of history is in Seattle and we learned so much (and I am not a history buff by any means and LOVED this the most out of visit to Seattle)! Our guide was fantastic! She definitely knows how to tell a story and kept us hanging onto every word, wanting to be close to her to hear everything she had to say. We had Andie as our tour guide and her comedic timing is impeccable ! She had me wondering if it was improv or pre-scripted. Overall the tour was fun - felt like a historical comedy show and the crowd was full of non locals. I'd say it's definitely a dusty experience - and I wouldn't recommend it on a rainy day (you spend most of the time unground where pipes can drip on you !) The gift shop could use some work I think if it had cooler stuff that people would definitely buy it ! If you enjoy History, this is the tour for you. I learned so much about Seattle that I probably would not have ever learned had I not been on this tour. The first 20 minutes of the tour are semi brutal as you sit in a room and are told the history. If you are not an auditory learner, this will be hard for you to sit through. I hope that one day they create like a PowerPoint slide or something with pictures and text to follow along with instead of just having you sit there. Be advised that there will be a lot of dirty jokes (thankfully that will go right over your kids heads), therefore if you do not like that, this might not be for you. Walking under the streets of Pioneer Square is super cool, you can almost imagine what it was like. I believe our tour guide said it was only a 2 block radius but it was enough to get the picture. Take the tour! We were told by many locals and prior visitors to go and the recommendation was dead on. I brought my 12 year old son, a bit of a history buff. Bring a mask or they will charge you $1 for one to wear in the first building you start in. You can take it off when the tour starts. Our guide, Keon (spelling it wrong, sorry) was really energetic and knowledgeable, funny. We really enjoyed him. He made the history really interesting and made walks in the underground cool. You learn all about the history of Seattle and it's buildings and cool pieces of trivia about some residents. read more
