Amazing. If you want an authentic, fun, and safe experience open water diving, Underwater Oahu is the way to go. We came out for an introductory dive. We did two different dives with Mike. The first was a wreckage, the second was a reef. Mike was professional and gave a brief over view of the equipment. He stayed by our sides the entire time and let us dive at our own pace. The dive was so much fun that we came back for our open ocean certification. We signed up and were assigned Bart as our Instructor! We spent the first lesson in his pool where he went over several different exercises. Then we did 2 walk in dives at Electric beach. The last day of the course we did two dives in open ocean. Bart was professional, knowledgable, and encouraging. He repeated exercises until my husband and I were comfortable with performing them. He took us through a cavern tunnel, and showed us octopuses, turtles, and various other marine life. I left his class feeling confident in my abilities as a diver and excited to continue my diving adventures! We saw something cool and new on all 6 dives, and we heard Whales while at electric beach then saw them the next day. Underwater Oahu is military friendly. All of their employees are professional and SME in Diving. It's an authentic diving experience.

I cannot recommend this place more. Bart is really patient, responsible and knowledgeable. he taught us scuba diving and helped us to earn the open water certificate in a short time. I am extremely happy about this experience and it is really fun!

My wife and I did our certification dives with Mike at Underwater Oahu. This dive shop had super friendly and knowledgeable staff who managed their operation with ease and fun. Also: Mike has an incredible eye for spotting wildlife. I'm not sure how he does it, but mid-conversation he'd point out turtles and dolphins from land with his peripheral vision. While diving, his aquaman instincts brought us to a reef shark, eels, lionfish, and an octopus. The dive sites we went to were varied and beautiful (2 reefs and a wreck). As luck would have it, our boat also ran into 2 monk seals swimming together, probably playing hanky panky, in Mike's words. Thanks Mike for seamless and fun first dives!

These guys are a small operation. The gear is in good shape and their setup is great. The only downside about being a small operation is that you have to bring your own camera, no onboard photographer. Travis and Laci, our dive master and instructor respectively, were awesome. The boat was a small dive boat but fit the 13 of us very comfortably. I did two dives and the dive sites were very different. The first one we did was called airplane canyon, a private plane wreck about 90ft deep. The second dive was a shallow reef dice with a lot of fish, a shark and an octopus. Even if you've never done it before, I recommend it, they offer discover scuba experiences- you can go diving with an instructor even if you aren't certified. The shop is hidden away a bit, no signs for "Underwarer Oahu", but it's in the same building as the spinner cafe.

I'm a certified diver and have had the opportunity to dive in several locations around the world, as well as with other companies on the North Shore, but none compare to this team. Hawaii Adventure Diving stands in a league of its own. This experience means the world to me. I travel to Hawaii every month for work, and I try to do this shark dive every time I'm here. That alone says everything. I won't be diving with any other shark diving companies on the North Shore, Hawaii Adventure Diving is simply the best!! Matt was very knowledgeable, patient, and focused on safety throughout the 3 days and 5 dives that it took me to complete my open water scuba diver certification, which I appreciated very much. I contacted the concierge at our hotel for a recommendation for a scuba diving operation and they recommended Matt at Kraken Divers. I contacted Matt, he responded promptly and we scheduled two days of diving. He offered to supply all necessary equipment but I preferred to bring my own and he supplied tanks and weights. He is a consummate professional. I asked him to observe me and make sure that I made no mistakes, and he did. We did a one tank beach dive and a two tank boat dive. He gave terrific and thorough safety and site briefings on all three dives. I have no hesitation in giving him a five star recommendation. And, believe me, as a multi agency instructor myself, he skipped nothing. I would happily dive with him anytime.

What we got instead was poor dive management and a complete lack of professionalism. During the dive, I ran out of air, which is a serious and dangerous situation in scuba diving. The response from the guide was dismissive and poorly handled, which only made the situation worse. The most frustrating part of the entire experience was dealing with Gabe, the owner. He had absolutely no patience and was openly unprofessional, not just with us but in the way he interacted with others as well. There was no concern for how unsafe the situation was, no accountability, and no attempt to make things right. For an activity where safety, trust, and professionalism are critical, this operation fell short on every level. We paid nearly $700 and walked away feeling stressed, unsafe, and completely disappointed. I would strongly caution newer or less experienced divers before booking here. This is not the kind of environment where you feel supported or safe.

With the times, if there are not enough they will consolidate times. We were signed up for 10am but got moved to 8am. You meet at Haleiwa docks near the blue hut (see photo). They provide mask, snorkel, and fins. You should bring a rash guard or wetsuit. The ride out is about 15 mins and as is typical in Hawaii, water can be choppy so you might get a little seasick. They give you instructions on the boat. Once there you hang on to a rope on the side of the boat and they take you individually to dive down closer to the sharks. We got lucky because there were tiger sharks (see photos). The cost is about $150 person but I would recommend paying some additional money for the go pro. You really want some documentation of what you did and saw. It's $50 for 2 people. They also have $250 option for photos and go pro but I think the go pro was enough. The people were really good and it was a great experience for all of us. Strongly recommend.

I walked into a few other surf and snorkel spots but they mostly carried short fins. I went with the Leaderfins which are the most affordable carbon fins. The fins do come separately from the foot pocket, so I also got their forza foot pockets. They do offer a service where they put together your fins and foot pockets but only certain people are trained on that, so I did have to pick it up just a few days later- and that service is $30. I also got a pair of diving socks to go with my fins. They have different sizes, thicknesses, and cuts (high vs low). I also got a new diving mask and snorkel. The best thing about going to a dive shop is the ability to try things on and Westside Dive has so many different options. Being able to put on the foot pockets with the diving socks or even just trying on a few different masks to find the one that best fits your face is why it's better to come in person than buying online. The service was also super friendly. I was making some big purchases, so I wanted to make sure that each component was exactly right and the staff here was helpful and overall super chill. We talked story for a bit, exchanged where we like to go diving and even some fish recipes. If you're looking for diving gear, support local and check out Westside Dive!
