Japanese inspired Italian comfort food. That's how I describe Unico and I'm sticking with it. This was another DineLA stop for me on this month's Restaurant week. It's located on Main which if you know the area, it's street parking or lots back behind the businesses. I've also parked on the residential cross streets before - and I love that it's free. There are time restrictions so read the signs. On Main, it's two hours free, until 6PM. So, I was golden as I got there just before 5. Walked in, no reservations. I thought I might be in trouble because the outdoor seating was packed. But I guess no one wanted to sit indoors as I had the pick of the place. Well, kinda - party of one so he gave me a choice of the two seaters. Saving the larger tables for larger number parties. Service was excellent. Between the team of three, they worked in unison - attentive, friendly and efficient. At one point, I almost felt like they were keeping an eye out on me because I was like royalty. But don't get me wrong - they're weren't hovering like pests. Service was just great! And the food. The food. I opted for the DineLA menu but of course added more items and drinks too. Off the DineLA menu: Salad | Garlic Bread | Yuzu Peperoncini Added: Koji Cauliflower Soup | Jidori Chicken | 2 Beers The salad and bread were ok. I liked the chicken and soup. Really enjoyed the pasta. Other than the beer and pasta, the meal didn't seem Japanese inspired to me as far as flavors go. But still enjoyed dinner enough that I'd go back even if it's not for DineLA. Other pasta dishes I'd want to try as I really liked the one I ordered.

Unico pasta opened up a second location in El Segundo, and it's nice that it's near LAX so anytime we are dropping someone off at the airport, we can go here and have a meal before going to LAX. Uni pasta is the main reason we are trying Unico Tokyo Pasta and also to see how vlose their Uni pasta is to our favorite Japanese pasta in cypress California. My son's and I each ordered a different dish to be able to try out other flavors. Besides the Uni Cream, we also ordered curry Bolognaise and the Mentaiko Pasta. They were all good, however the Uni cream was a little dry, but still had great taste. The Mentaiko and Curry Bolognais were full of flavor. We wanted dessert, but they were out of the strawberry cheesecake so a little disappointed, but it gives us a reason to comeback and try other dishes. Worth coming back and trying other pasta dishes. Our server was really good and very helpful. The restaurant is quite small but they have outdoor seating if you are interested.

Summary: Great vibes, service, and food. The pasta is also dente and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommend the Spicy Vodka. Our first visit here was on Monday evening. It was not super crowded, but there were a number of tables occupied. Reservations are recommended (just in case), but they have an online waitlist. Our server Jonathan introduced himself and helped us select a wine by letting us sample all three of the reds. We ended up choosing the Raeburn Pinot Noir. We also asked a number of questions about various dishes, which he was very helpful answering, then made our selections. Caprese - Really tasty and well-balanced. The tomatoes and cheese were excellently paired with the light touch of honey being a nice note. Garlic bread - Great textures, but needed a little saltiness. The Caprese worked well on top. Yuzu Pepperoncino - Quite tasty, with excellently textured pasta. The pancetta was a bit fatty and not crispy enough, though (just our opinion). Spicy Vodka - The star of the night. Checked all of the boxes. Great flavor, excellent texture, nice and savory. And a good little kick. Highly recommend a visit to this new location.

My favorite Japanese pasta on the west side! Amazing Al dente pasta with great flavor. They've even now included lunch specials. Personal favorite is the chicken shisolico which is their take on pesto. They also do an exceptional uni pasta I highly recommend if that's your jam. I'll have to increase how much I work out now that they've opened a spot less than 15 minutes from me!

Came in for solo dining during the soft opening - food, service, and ambiance were great! This was my first time trying the food and I had a lovely evening. Was in the mood for a red sauce pasta and asked my waitress for recommendations on what would pair well. Staff was very friendly and informed me they make everything in house (aside from the noodles) The Napolitan Pasta was hearty and paired well with the Tabasco (I'd eat half with and half without to experience both!) The Ganache was very rich, chocolatey, and came out warm. The crunchy cereal on top was a great addition - great for someone with a sweet tooth but would recommend sharing! Overall great experience and glad to see they joined the El Segundo neighborhood :) Will be going back to try their specialty pastas - looked/smelled very good!

Open! Open! Open! Soft opening until Wednesday the 22nd. Taka (owner), Marifel (manager), and Emily (waitress) will take excellent care of you. Japanese twist on pasta , very interesting concept. This is there second location, first one in El Segundo. Right on Main Street, free street parking and and an easy walking street. Emily will fully explain the menu and help you make the right choice. Beer and wine available, free refills on soft drinks, good deal. Happy hour Monday to Friday, both drink and food items. Some great choices. So many interesting choices, sea urchin, curry bolognese, cod Caviar sauce, garlic shrimp , etc. Read the menu carefully and pick something to share. Enjoy!

Welcome to El Segundo, Unico Tokyo Pasta! We've been to your Redondo Beach location several times over the years, and it's become one of our favorite pasta spots because of its unique Japanese influence. We stopped by today during the first day of the soft opening, and we're happy to say the food is just as delicious as we remembered. Our favorite is the mentaiko cream pasta--it's one of those dishes we always find ourselves craving. We've also tried the garlic salmon pasta and the yuzu pasta, and each one has its own unique flavor profile. It's such a refreshing change from the traditional Italian pasta you'll find elsewhere. And don't forget the house made desserts: a warm chocolate, a cheesecake, and Japanese pudding all served in jars. The restaurant has been beautifully updated, creating a warm, modern space, and the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. You can tell they're excited to be part of the El Segundo community. If you're looking for something a little different that's still comforting, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, give Unico Tokyo Pasta a try. We can't wait to come back and work our way through the rest of the menu. Congratulations on the new location, and welcome to El Segundo!

Great place! A fusion of Japanese and Italian Cuisione. Service was great. They're attentive. The Mentaiko pasta was tasty and flavorful! It was yummy. The servers were nice and attentive. We ate outside and the weather was nice. The inside is small and felt a little stuffy so we chose outside. The servings are definitely just enough for one person. The menu is pretty limited to Pasta and just a little bit of other options. Overall would recommend for good pasta. I think they need to make their own pasta to really elevate the experience.

Had a delightful curry bolognese. It was surprisingly well portioned but didn't feel overfull when I wiped the plate clean! It was nice out so enjoyed the people watching and nice tables outside. Great service too. Will be back!

The food here is really good! It is similar to the location in redondo beach. Service was really good, staff are really friendly. It was a Friday night, and it was pretty hot in the indoor seating area. Recommend the curry bolognese.

Hidden in plain sight, Kagura is a top tier Japanese dining experience. It should be noted that this place is more $$$ than it is $$, and that's a compliment. I dropped $50+ here and it was easy to say it was worth it. I treat myself to the Kagura Gozen chef especial that was limited on how many was served per day and a Orion Okinawa draft beer. Plus, I had leftovers. The chef special came with more-than-a-little of everything. Each dish was unique and delicious. I was treated to a full spread of amazing Japanese cuisine. Sashimi was fresh, katsu was thick and juicy with a lightly breaded crust, eel was flavorful and soft, and the soba noodles were perfect. The restaurant is clean and beautifully laid out. I got vibes of actually being in Japan. If you have a reservation, you can get a private booth. The attractive staff were fantastic. Friendly and fast. Water glass was always full and empty dishes were promptly removed. Last tid bits. Two clean solo bathrooms and street parking.

This time, I noticed this location offers special Gozen set meals that I hadn't seen before. They had a limited Dinner Gozen on the menu with only 10 sets available each night. Of course I had to order it. The set came with a little bit of everything: sushi, sashimi, katsu, eel rice, toro rice, ikura rice, soba, a variety of small cold side dishes, soup, and salad. It was a huge meal and I was honestly surprised I managed to finish the whole thing. I really enjoyed it because you get to try so many different items in one meal. If you're like me and love Japanese food, this is a great way to sample a little bit of everything without having to order a bunch of separate dishes. Everything tasted fresh and the quality was excellent. The restaurant itself isn't very big, so it can get pretty busy. They do take reservations though, which I'd recommend if you're planning to come during dinner. Overall, I really enjoyed this special Gozen meal and would definitely come back. It was a fun experience and a great value for the variety and quality of food you get.

It was prepared table side and was just incredible. Our server Kelly was amazing! Loved her great recommendations, and she constantly checked in with us. Her German/Ecuadorian heritage coincided with an upcoming World Cup match, so having her as our server was extremely fortuitous. The restaurant ambiance is simple yet welcoming along the main road. Parking was a little crowded but we found street parking not far away. I love how they have a waitlist and how food came out really quickly. They have their own special soy sauce recipe! It was our first time visiting the Bar and my husband got the Taste of the Bar while I got the 6 piece hand roll fixed menu. The Taste of the Bar had the most unique recipes for their rolls and came with a sake or green tea, which was amazing iced. The Bar is located in a super fun little strip mall towards the back of the mall. It's sort of low key, so it's not really too crowded, hard to find parking, or much of a wait to be seated generally. I loved how friendly and social the staff are as you're being served your hand rolls, it made the experience that much more enjoyable. Service is prompt and you're welcome to order more food at any point during your meal. I loved the 6 piece. It was a more traditional hand roll offering of salmon, spicy tuna, amber jack, blue crab, toro, and scallop. The hand rolls were all so flavorful, but my favorites were the blue crab for its creaminess and the amber jack for the lemon zestiness that paired so well with the protein. I think the taste is really up there, in terms of feeling satisfied or full afterward is up for debate. I think that the sequencing of the rolls is a bit off-putting, there is no rhyme or order to when you buy the set, it comes based on whatever the chef decides to make! It's not the worst thing but it did get me excited for the next piece which wasn't what I'd expect each time.. oh well. Their pickled ginger was great because the experience felt like an omakase, so I was cleansing my palette with a piece each time. I think their best ones, e.g. HYE, was not as amazing as I thought it should be. It was just your typical baked heavy items to get your savory palette going... It didn't feel as nice as the others. I give this a 4-star as I dinged this place for their price. The ingredients are good with their presentation and the limited seats make it quite exclusive feeling. I just don't like spending $60 during lunch for just a few rolls and not feeling full. I'd still come back for maybe a celebratory thing though! Maybe they get specials or something.

To our surprise, we found this "new" place, The Second Wind. The menu looked enticing and the lunch specials really looked like a great deal. So we decided we needed to come back for lunch and soon. A week later, we returned. Parking is very easy in the free lot for the complex. The interior design is energenic, vivrant with amazing looking Asian inspired pop art. Very cool interior. You can be seated and served or order to go. They have a combination lunch special, two items for $15.99. But, many of those items have an up charge if you add a protien. Either way, in these times, $16 for two items is reasonable. Our server greeted us quickly and let us choose the table of our liking. There are a handful of booths and open tables. My wife ordered the Beef Bulgogi and the Eggplant. I ordered the Chicken Dumplings and the Garlic Noodle (adding chicken for $2 more). The portions are generous. Light eaters might be able to just order one two dish combo and share. The Beef Bulgogi was good but the veggies looked a bit dehydrated. The Eggplant was just okay. The Chicken Dumplings were very tasty but served cool. I ordered them steamed and expected them to be warm at least. The Garlic Noodles with chicken was the biggest disappointment. To me, and my wife, over cooked with crunchy pieces. The chicken was also over cooked, dry and tough. When our server asked how things were, I mentioned it. He didn't seem surprised. I asked if the noodles were always dry and he said yes. He offered to bring more sauce, which he did. I added it but it didn't make the chicken any better. In the end, I left 90% of it. They only have cans of sodas so no refills but they are attached to a tea house that serves a great selection of teas, bobo, etc. There was some good things but more not, overall, we were disappointed. Honestly, I was a bit surprised they didn't offer to replace my dish or offer a small discount. They could see the pile of food I left. Anyway... Hopefully your experience and food preparation will be better than ours and...enjoy!!!
