Happened upon Yume on my recent trip to Manhattan Beach with my friend and her daughter. The restaurant is very cute and the staff very accommodating. We took my niece and the server was very accommodating on helping us find a dish she might like. He also recommended two rolls we may like both fresh and baked rolls. We ordered the Senorita roll mostly because we liked the name lol It had baked salmon, onion and cilantro. This one was ok not our favorite. The Cherry Blossom Roll was so delicious and buttery. The presentation was beautiful as well. We ended up ordering two of those which includes spicy tuna inside and tuna, yellowtail with green onion and masago, and soy and mustard dressing. read more

So, I was going thru one of my phases where I was eating sushi/sashimi every day for days straight. On one of those days, I ended up at Yume. I got there early before the dinner rush so the area actually had parking. I parked in the lot across the street. Don't remember how much but I remember I used a card - coins weren't accepted. Walked in and seated immediately. Like I mentioned already - arrived early. By the time I left, the place was filling up. Which meant - attentive, friendly great service for me. As for the food - see uploaded video. I loved the presentation and the food a well. There was one dish I felt was just ok. If you watch the video, note the dark deep fried dish. Think the oil wasn't clean as it wasn't overcooked. I don't mean clean as in dirty but maybe not fresh? Not sure if I'm using the right words to describe it but it wasn't golden; it was more burnt brown. Ended up saucing it more than usual and still finished it off. I wouldn't let one thing like that stop me from enjoying good food. In fact, I plan on going back again to enjoy more of the sushi and sashimi. And ice cold beer! read more

I'm sharing this review with some hesitation because I've come here many times and have always enjoyed my experiences. Unfortunately, this visit was a bit disappointing. The bluefin tuna didn't seem as fresh as I've come to expect. The color appeared gray, and the overall quality just didn't seem right. The miso cod was also a little too fishy for my taste, and I didn't really get much of the miso flavor. On the other hand, the toro was amazing, and the baked mussels are always the best here. I truly didn't want to write a negative review, especially because I've been a returning customer. However, this is the third time I've left feeling somewhat disappointed. I hope the team takes this feedback into consideration, as I would really like to continue coming back and having the quality and experience I've enjoyed in the past. Wow, the sushi was so fresh and delicious! The crab was incredibly creamy and everything was melt-in-your-mouth. Highly recommend the spicy rose roll if you like crab. I don't appreciate lying in the response. If your staff didn't "compare the restaurant to a church" she wouldn't be able to look at me and say I'm sorry for saying that. Your manager also didn't do anything regarding the circumstance. He was on his lunch break and can see through the curtain what the situation is, peaked over and acted like he didn't see anything and continued eating. Randomly stumbled upon this place as parking was near by, and it ended up being such a gem! I loved the ambiance! There was so much natural lighting in the main dining area. The staff were very kind as well. Price may be expensive to some, but it's definitely worth it in my opinion. My friend and I were full just from this set alone. The sushi was extremely fresh! My friend lives up the street and we were being lazy and wanted sushi, so she placed an order through Yelp and we walked down to pick it up and head straight back to the couch. Great standard sushi, with a nice selection of rolls. I guess the website is down, and the Yelp menu was the only way I could scroll the selections, on my phone, which made it not as easy to see everything Yume has to offer. Service was excellent. Servers were very attentive and polite. Food was just ok. Miso wasn't dissolved completely so it had those little particles. Tofu was diced into super small cubes. I got the 2 item bento and everything was bland. Salad was ok. Bulgolgi was a bit sweet; the only bento item with flavor. I also got the seared tuna with caviar. Menu wasn't lying when they said it was tuna with caviar because that's really all it was. No ponzu or ginger or anything so it wasn't flavorful. Yu-Me is a new Manhattan Beach Japanese restaurant offering traditional Japanese fare with decent food, great service, an authentic, clean, cozy interior, and reasonable value. Our family of four visited on a Friday evening. We started with the Lemon Special Sushi Roll ($18), a decent but somewhat confused sushi roll with light tuna exterior, a lemon garnish, but spicy tuna interior. While nominally tasty, the light, delicate fish and sour outside was interrupted by the spicy interior, and would benefit from a more delicate interior to allow the lemon to come through. Joining this was the Love Roll ($18), a quite heavy crabmeat and salmon baked roll too rich on avocado. Following the sushi was the Tonkotsu Ramen ($17), which was surprisingly watery and disappointing. Closing things off was the Beef Teriyaki Hot Stone ($19) the highlight of the evening, with perfectly cooked, medium-rare beef over a rich garlic rice. The service and ambiance were excellent; despite being a busy Friday we were seated quickly, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant clean and well decorated. Prices, as above, were reasonable, but not exceptional for unremarkable food. While I was excited this new Yu-Me location had excellent Yelp reviews, I was sadly disappointed by the food. While not bad by any means, it was worse than what the initial Yelp score predicted. More focus on the sushi above and a richer Tonkotsu would have helped this otherwise decent establishment into five-star range. Love this place! My wife and I come here multiple times a month. The entire staff is always so friendly, and the service is always quick. We love coming here because they are open late and all of their dishes are fantastic. We've tried a fair number of their sushi rolls, a lot of their sides, and the katsu. Our normal Friday tradition is to play pickleball then come here for sushi, beer, and sake. They've always got people in there, but I feel like it's never too crowded (at least at the times we go). Bento Box #2 - bulgogi, sesame chicken and chicken katsu. This was a very hearty order, enough to feed 3 people. Went here for a bday celebration. Was able to call and get a Rez for a party of 8. Had a great time. Service was really good and they were really accommodating. My only critique would be that I think they could update the inside decor. We had a great time and we could tell the people around us did as well. Had some good drinks and really yummy food. I thought it was only Japanese but it's got a lot of Korean items on the menu and many of the servers speak Korean. I forgot to take pic of all the food but highly recommend everything we had.
