Good service, kind bartenders. The area is great for a dive bar. But we are Disappointed in the patio not being dog friendly.

Went in today (middle of the day..Sunday afternoon) and it was very quiet and there were only two other patrons having a drink. My partner and I and our friends who are another couple walk in and say Hello and proceed to start ordering and the woman behind the counter barely said Hello back to us and also immediately asked to see our ID but in a very rude manner. We all give our identification and then I asked for some white wine and she ignored me and asked what my partner wanted, poured his beer, then moved on to our other friend, completely ignoring me!! I started to chuckle with my partner because it was very awkward and she was making it a point to ignore me so she then poured my glass of wine finally. Our friend asked if it was okay if we could take our glasses outside on the patio (which we assumed was okay but our friend just wanted to ask) and again just completely ignored us which was very awkward and made us chuckle even more at the bad service! Once we were done with our drinks we started to leave and one of us said "Thank you" as we were walking out the door and she again didn't even look at us! I just don't understand the negative attitude when all she had to do was pour the drinks and then she could go back to being on her phone! She seemed annoyed when we walked in and I'm guessing it's because we interrupted her scrolling she was doing on her phone! read more

I love a good dive bar but this location is a hard pass. It probably fits a niche in the neighborhood (maybe) but not a destination dive. Immediately upon entering you are smacked with the smell of stale smoke which had been baked into the walls and ceilings from generations of previous smokers. Cigarette smoke freely enters from the patio - no 25 foot distance here. Standard selection of liquor but don't expect anything unique in terms of drinks. Well prices $7. For dive bars I would recommend Terrys or the bar at Knapps. read more

This is one of my favorite dive in bars. It's a pretty chill vibe here. They never cheap you out on shots that's for sure. This is usually where you want to get your night started, over poured shots and scent bar food lol. read more

Not a bad little dive bar. Convo with the bartenders was good. Cig smoke blowing in from patio was not. $9 dollar glass of Jamo was not. I didn't ask for a double and still not sure if thats what i received but didn't look like it or feel like it. If it was a double, then it was a fair deal but asked simply for a Jamo with ice. Place was relatively clean and not a lot of patrons when we arrived. Service was good! May stop in again next time. Will ask about the $9 drink. read more

Unicorn's outdoor space is well crafted with accents including English Ivy, flowering plants, landscaped rock, and a towering waterfall. Wood fencing is built with plexi-glass windows in order to not deter from the beautiful view of Commencement Bay. OK, now answer me this: From the description I just presented you with, this doesn't sound like a dive bar, right? Wrong. Hidden in a Ruston-area neighborhood, you'd never guess that Unicorn Sports Bar bustled nightly with long-time patrons and local barflies. Pool tables, dart boards, taco specials, an easy fried-food menu, old barstools, crazy flooring, and bar-top video games hand this place the dive bar card it was meant to be dealt. Push your way through the stiff, wooden, salon-type bathroom doors and find yourself inside every woman's Sharpie-scripted diary. With a couple of expected wall writings of "Mary so-and-so is a whore" type stuff, one can also find poetic advice, clever limericks, and personal compliments specifically concerning a person's love for the Unicorn itself. Don't judge me. You would've stayed and read the walls yourself, and you know it. A large refrigerated case houses plenty of bottled beer behind the counter, cold and ready to quench even the most discerning domestic beer tastes. I witnessed more than one variety of tomato-based tall-boy beverages. On tap the selection holds approximately six typical domesticated micro-brews such as Blue Moon and Widmere, and four true-to-life domestics. The real shit, like Budweiser. What a strange place. Teriyaki restaurant by day, rundown sports bar / dance club by night. Definitely not my favorite place to be on a Friday or Saturday night but hey, the place fills up. The location's in the middle of a neighborhood and most of the patrons on the busy nights seem to be locals who meet up every week to party. I tend to feel a little out of place most of the time as I didn't grow up here. Darryl, the bartender is incredible and makes it worthwhile. I'm also amazed at how attractive the women are that go to such a seemingly dumpy place on a Friday night. That being said, I can see why people enjoy the Unicorn, it's just not for me as it's a little too isolated and the crowd isn't my favorite. However, if you want to dance, play a little pool, and don't mind feeling like an outsider then I'd say it's worth checking out. read more

I must say that each of the three times I have been to the Unicorn it was unique. All three times were at night. There was a DJ blasting out top 40 hits. However, it must be said that the Unicorn is in a residential area. Thusly, there are limits to the bass level of the music played. The result is what it sounds like in a 1980s Honda Civic with one speaker at full blast. I came for the beer but I stayed for the plus size bachelorette party in booty shorts. A Saturday night can generate a diverse, strange crowd that can't help but put a smile on your face. Decent beer and great people watching! read more

Cool old brick building, awesome view of Commencement Bay and Vashon Island over Ruston Way, good selection of beer/drinks, fantastic bartender (when Darryl's working, anyway!), outdoor patio area, pool tables... none of these things that make the Unicorn a great place to hang out have changed much in the 12 years that I've been coming here. One thing that has changed (for the worse) is their menu. Long gone are the days of the Unicorn's kick-ass steak night that used to be a weekly ritual for myself and a group of friends. At that time (circa 1999-2000?), the bar also featured a full regular menu. After a long absence from the Unicorn I stopped in a one point a few years ago to discover that it had become a teriyaki restaurant and featured karaoke every night. Apparently that didn't last, because now its back to its dive bar glory but without much of anything on the menu: if you're there early enough the owner will make a hamburger for you (an OK burger and side of super-salty crinkle fries for about $7). Otherwise, its a choice of deep-fried onion rings, jalapeno poppers, gyoza, french fries... and that's about it. Plan on eating elsewhere if you're heading to the Unicorn for drinks! They have also added a few LCD TVs and video games and updated the jukebox (Boo! The old jukebox here was the shit!!). read more

My girl friend and I went there for her co-works birthday party this past weekend. The bartenders and staff we great. Fast service music was fun. Etc. What ruined our night was the Korean lady that owns the place. Every time our party got wild and where having fun, here she comes to break it all up. Another thing is that she would quit cleaning around us. Sweeping around people's feet snatching glasses before we where finished Etc. I asked he to stop she she decided to get very confrontational with my girl friend and I. Not what I call good customer service or a good time. Needless to say we won't be coming back. read more

This review is for the service that was provided by this establishment. An experience to sample their food and drink was denied to us by the bartender of the establishment. The bartender, reasonably so, requested validation of our age by verifying our government/state identification. However, this bartender, vehemently stated that the ID of one of our party was fake. After waiting for a police officer to validate the ID, the bartender was dismissive, defensive and rude regarding the situation. Additionally, she had the gall to double check our IDs, for a party of 8+, for a second time. An establishment is only as good as the employees that represent it, and unfortunately this is a very poor establishment. I rarely award one star reviews, so I would highly suggest taking one's business elsewhere, where customer service is actually practiced. read more

Love this place. Literally feels like a hidden little gem of a dive bar tucked between a few houses near Ruston. Food is good and the bartender Daryl is awesome. His service is quick, remembers drinks, and better yet remembers the people hes serving...even if its been weeks between the times you come in. Also doesnt hurt the fact that I live 2 blocks from this place. A live DJ on the weekends and this place always seems to be busy with tons of friendly people. read more
