I finally got to check this bar out after months of it being on my list. When I arrived for happy hour it was pretty dead. The bartender was extremely warm and welcoming and made some good recommendations on the menu. My friend and I ordered the pretzel bites to split and two different burgers with tots/fries. The food came out really quickly and was tasty. A few ingredients were out of stock, but the chef was able to get creative to still make the food tasty. The camp directions around the bar were very cute. The only thing I missed out on was trying to the smores, but there's always next time! read more

Omygosh we don't come here as often as we used to but we stopped in tonight. Dang a couple songs and caught up with some friends.... When I checked our account it seems that the "manager " and bar tender was looking for more tips!! We were given our receipt of $24 dollars, no problem. I visited for the first time with a group of friends, and it was the most hostile energy we've ever experienced. The bartender seemed irritated we were there as a group, despite it being incredibly empty at 5:30pm. She seemed annoyed at my friend needing to double check her order on the online menu? My spouse went up to order at the bar and was apparently waiting in the incorrect spot but she ignored them, made no move to correct them or ask them to move to the register until after someone else went up to order. One of my friends went up to place their order and she just stared at them and didn't say anything. She never once greeted us as we entered or spoke kindly/professional to any of us. Despite happily greeting and speaking to several other people who arrived after us. I could have excused the poor service if the bar was super busy/hectic but it was so early in the day and there were maybe 3 other pairings of people in there... My friends and I are all younger and somewhat queer looking. I was under the impression this was a somewhat queer friendly place but it certainly didn't feel that way. I don't know for sure if that's what it was but it felt like there was some sort of prejudice from the moment we walked in. We were not welcomed there regardless. Came here with a large group for a going away party. The staff was very accommodating and the space is perfect for large groups. We thoroughly enjoyed the karaoke that they offered, the service was good, everyone we dealt with was kind. The drinks were also strong, so that's good. Only good things to say about this place. I've been wanting to go to the camp bar for sooo long and finally got my opportunity as I dropped my father off for an appointment in the area. I was told it could take upwards of two hours and they'd call me 15 minutes before he's ready to go so I stopped in this afternoon. I was dangerously close to becoming diabetic recently so I'm on a diet now to correct my bad eating habits which is pretty low carb and sugars making going out a bit difficult but i figured I've been doing pretty dang good keeping my sugar and carb levels as well as calories in check and I planned to attend a salsa dancing event in the evening with a friend anyways and knew I would burn tons of calories off there so decided to indulge just a bit ;) I had the one eyed squirrel and the Axe'spresso martini for cocktails and both were divine !! The one eyed squirrel was soooo good for a lighter drink and it's such a fun drink to get at that thanks to a plastic eyeball !!! I kept my squirrel eye ball as a souvenir!! The Axe'spresso martini was delicious as well and a great drink to wake you up when you want more energy! I also got a hot dog... the Tacoma dog. Normally it's a hot dog with bacon bits, cream cheese and caramelized onions but I requested no bacon bits as I'm not really a fan of bacon personally. It was also yummy and a pretty BIG and juicy weiner lol !!!! The ambiance inside is incredible!!! It's just like being in a log cabin in the woods. I'm going to be moving at the end of November but I told a close friend of mine about my experience and hope we will stop by together before I leave Washington. We were starving and ready for a drink after a long work day. Michelle greeted us with a nice friendly smile. We ordered some tall G&Ts for $5 happy hour. Then we ordered the totbomb which was perfectly crispy cheesy tots. The salads were fresh, crisp and cold lettuce with amazing house made ranch. So good! The burgers were huge! I love this bar!! - written the night of Looking back a week later after my check in, I honestly can't remember much past the first couple of hours. The lemonade and Squirrel Eye drinks are dangerous. They taste so sweet and innocent, next thing you know you're making bets with strangers. All I know is that I have to crush a watermelon between my legs now or risk losing $20 to a stranger that has my number. All joking aside, drinks were amazing. Don't let the sweetness fool you though, they're strong. The dry chicken wings with sauce on the side were the perfect level of crispy. The peppers on the hummus plate are fire. Only down side is that I apparently reeked of grease when I got home? I had to wash my bedsheets to get rid of the smell. My boyfriend and I have been wanting to check out The Camp Bar for so long, and I'm glad we finally got the chance to! We're both super into all things hiking/camping/the PNW, and this spot is the place for you if you're into the same vibe. It's very much a dive bar and the atmosphere is really relaxed. Everyone is super nice. You order at the bar (including food) but we had a couple bartenders and even the cook come check with us at our table that everything was enjoyable to us. For food, we went with the Tacoma Dog and the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. The Tacoma Dog is their take on a Seattle Dog - basically a Seattle Dog, but with bacon bits loaded on top of it. The Spicy Chicken Sandwich is a Nashville Hot chicken sandwich, and SO good. Both were really good in their own ways, and it's hard to say what I liked better. We made sure to ask for both cut in half so we could each try both. Another bonus - The Camp Bar is pickle back friendly! Finding places that do pickle backs is hit or miss, but they were ready to go with a whole bottle of pickle juice. Also, note that the pours are STRONG here - not complaining! If you're still not comfortable sitting indoors, they also have a covered seating area outside. Not sure if it's heated or not. Sticking with the camping theme, you can also order s'mores for two here which is super cute. Definitely a fan of this spot. I'm sure we'll be back! read more

I wish we could like this place the inside was so cute, and the menu looked promising. When we came in and sat down the bartender forgot our drink, and then went outside to smoke a cigarette. She left us all in the bar and there was one lady that walked up I assume to pay her bill and gave up and sat back down. She finally came back and we ordered our food and she remembered his drink. We got our food and it was pretty good, and before we were done eating my partner ordered another drink and that one was completely forgotten about. When he cashed out he mentioned it and a different bartender made it, but the whole interaction was pretty disappointing. I don't know what they have going on in the kitchen, but the whole time we were here our eyes were burning so bad. Overall, I don't think we would come back. read more

Welcome to the great outdoors...but indoors! This unique restaurant is themed after someone's obvious love for camping. From the lighting, to the décor on the wall to the table inside a tent, this place will make you feel like you need to get out the mosquito repellant and a flannel jacket. It's camping time, yo! The menu is pretty typical of bar food-burgers, hot dogs, tater tots. I ordered a plain hot dog (because that's what I eat when I'm camping!) and they called it a "streaker dog" because there was nothing on it. Ha! If you want water, you serve yourself out of a dispenser at the bar. The best part of the meal was the s'more's for dessert. They bring a small propane fire pit to your table, along with skewers and fixin's for your treat and you make it just the way you want it. I loved this unique menu item and felt like it perfectly fit with the ambience. Since this is technically a bar, nobody under 21 is allowed. So while you might be tempted to bring the littles for this family campout, keep this one for adults-only. read more

I was gonna leave this review a few weeks back, but... I recently discovered this bar after moving into a nearby condo, and I really want to love it. Unfortunately, I've had a couple of negative experiences, particularly with the male bartender who works on weekends. My most recent encounter was on Saturday night, the 21st, when he started arguing with me about a tab that was already paid. It got so uncomfortable that the female bartender had to step in and intervene. He seemed off, with slurred speech, and it made the experience really awkward, and truly embarrassing to say the least. I genuinely want to return, but I feel uneasy about having to interact with him if he's working. read more

We have been into the camp bar two times now. It's a nice place and the people are friendly. They do have happy hour, but it isn't posted. I believe it's only well drinks and their Camp bar lager. Considerably improved but I believe this space got new ownership in 2017. If not the concept got totally revamped in 2017. What was here was the ACME. It was a bar with little atmosphere and allegedly if you ordered something off of the menu it was on a TV dinner kind of quality scale. I was only here once when it was ACME and did a hard pass on getting anything to eat but drinks were OK. In 2017 the Camp Bar appeared here along with a new sign. Further investigation showed the inside had more substance than it did before as far as decor goes so I finally made a point to go in and check it out. I was definitely impressed. Cute atmosphere which gives you the feeling of walking into a deluxe log cabin or tent. It's much more welcoming, cheerful and fun. The bleak and stark look that was here before has totally vanished. The occasional peppering of a headed mount of an antelope or some other game reminds me going back home to Wyoming to see my parents. Not only is the atmosphere improved the food menu looks more inviting too. Lots of burger and sandwich options on it, typical bar food. I got the spicy chicken sandwich in which I really liked along with an amber beer from Icicle Brewing out of Leavenworth, WA. Service was attentive and friendly. Yet another noticeable improvement. Good experience all the way around and worthy of returning in a much shorter length of time from the last visit. read more

Over the weekend my friend and I decided to try a bar we've never been to. We're so glad we did because this place was amazing! The atmosphere and vibes in here from the moment we walked in, were immaculate. Everyone was happy and singing and we instantly were in love. I ordered the lemon drop and the spicy chicken sandwich. Nothing spectacular but it was good! The tater tots were a little too crispy for me but who can complain about bar food. The people and workers are what made this place. We came on a Friday night which must be karaoke and and there were some pretty talented people. Our favorite part was all the little details they put into this place. Have been hearing about this spot since before we moved to Tacoma. Today we finally got an opportunity to check it out as Phase 2 begins to roll out...super impressed during COVID...can't imagine what it was like before!! We had the pleasure of being hosted by Pebbles whose recommendations were ALL on point for US! I'm usually a vodka/soda girl but ventured to try their One Eyed Squirrel...delish! The food is good however when I ordered my gin and tonic half way through pouring the bartender said they didn't have the ingredients to make it. I ordered dinner and a dessert to share with my friend, our dinner was brought out but after a while I realized I hadn't gotten our dessert. We went to the bar to order something else and confirmed the order was placed and they said it was and they'd get it out to us. After another 20 min the 3rd entrée was brought out but still no dessert. When I asked about it they claimed they didn't get the order to the kitchen and would start it now but by then I needed to leave and it had been an hour and a half. read more

I walked in earlier with my boyfriend today and I was disappointed at this place especially their employees. It was pretty empty and there were only a couple people at the bar. The bartender and server noticed us walking in and didn't even greet us. They just stared at us and ignored us after seeing us walk in. For this place being empty, you would think they want customers. We were looking forward to coming here after seeing their photos and reviews but left disappointed that no one acknowledged us. This place used to be the best place to go. The staff now is less than pleasant. Especially during a shift change. There was no communication to us or any other server or bar keep. We had to ask 3 times to get out ticket. Then after 45 more minutes we had to go to the bar and the girl w bangs gave us attitude cause we wanted to split our dinner bill (we told the previous server that came to our table). I never tip shitty but last night I did and I'll probably not recommend this place to go to anyone else lie I had the last 5 years. Where has customer service gone at some point it took a sharp left turn. Not even smile or a hi... just a "get your own water it's on the counter". We weren't the only table that had to go up multiple times to get our bill. It was unbelievable. Maybe I missed it posted but after 7 it's no longer a come to your table service, it's go to the bar and ask multiple times for something that normal servers would usually do. I grew up in Alaska, so up until five years ago all I knew were dive bars. In fact, I'll take a dive over a uppity yuppy bar 99% of the time. Mixed drinks are for the ladies, and although I love ya'll, I love a good beer, and cheap whiskey more. Maybe that's why I'm single now that I think of it. Who needs a therapist when I can just stumble upon deep shit like that while writing a Yelp review? But I digress... I was in Tacoma for the first time last weekend for the Lewis Black show. I like to think we're akin souls, so of course we'd run into each other at a dive to tip a few back before the show. Also, I was with a friend who's beer top shelf is Bud Light, so I couldn't pick one of the yuppy spots even if i wanted too. This made The Camp Bar an easy decision! Dimly lit, lively, and warm were my first impressions. A pool table, and lots of tvs with the NFL playoff games greeted us. My friend, and I pulled up to the bar, and I made up my mind what to have as soon as I saw The High Life. What dive wouldn't be complete without The Champagne of Beers? Exactly. I ordered the Hangover Burger, or at least that's what my feeble mind recalls (thanks booze), and get this...it had a fucking hash brown patty on it. How could I not?! AND, you can tater tots as a side which is key when you're a 42 year adult who grew up eating shitty school lunches. Both were good as was the French Dip my friend ordered. The service was friendly, prompt, and cool. I had two employees thank us for coming in before we even ordered a drink. They're very proud of Tacoma, and after all the shit talking the city folk have about our southern brothers I'm apt to think we're assholes. Tacoma is a great little city! Kudos my new friends! I can't recommend this place more. Friendly, good drinks, and food. It was like I was back in Alaska in a smoke filled dive, and bullshitting with the locals.
