Bad experience! I was told by the business I'm visiting to use their code and get a prepaid union cab from the airport. I did that, and got confirmation texts from them, including a link to track my driver. It didn't work, no one was there. Called the company and she told me they don't book cabs and I'd just to hope someone came. When I started pointing out they'd let me book and prepay she hung up on me! What was the text for? Why accept prepayment and ask for a time? Seems scammy. read more

Excellent service. I am a disabled resident of Sun Prairie. Union Cab has been getting me to my appointments, jobs and my shopping needs for over ten years. They are excellent about being on time. Yesterday snow made for difficult travel so I ordered my rides ahead of time and they came through both getting me to my destination and back home. Drivers are courteous, on time and remember me. Along with filing an ADA complaint, I am writing a review here to raise awareness and inform others. I called Union Cab today (9/25) to request a taxi to the intersection of University and East campus mall. While vehicles are prohibited from stopping on University Ave., there is an easily accessible, well-known area to pull over and pick up passengers at the East campus mall and University intersection. This area is between the Chazen Art Museum and the School of Music. The operator refused to pick up the crippled passenger. In addition, when requesting further information, the operator hung up. He certainly did not treat a disabled customer in a respectful and courteous way, as required by the ADA. read more

Till yesterday Union Cab was on top of my list. I booked cab 2 hours in advance. I did not get my cab on time and not even 10 minutes late, 20 minutes late but yes 30 minutes late. I was there waiting with my child and lots of luggage in very cold. The representatives were real rude, unprofessional and careless. I m not a person who will comment negatively very easily but yesterday was the acid test for my patience. Don't trust Union cab. I repent of refusing the help from my kindest neighbor. The online cab ordering/payment system makes calling a cab such a breeze. You can order in advanced (at least one hour ahead of time), or you can ask for a cab to be sent as soon as one is available. The online system also allows you to track your cab (once it has been assigned to you) and gives you an estimated time of arrival (fabulous!). Side note: I noticed that calling the number they have listed on their website is a huge pain in the ass and the hold time is always longer than their estimate. As such, I really appreciate the new ordering system because it allows me to bypass the wait time on the phone and to avoid speaking to operators who sometimes have trouble understanding what I am asking for. When the cab arrives at your address, a text is sent to your phone and you are able to communicate with the driver via text (in case of delay/change of plans, etc.). Also, since you enter your credit card number into the online ordering system, once you get to your destination and are ready to 'pay' for the ride, all you have to do is sign a piece of paper and write in the amount of tip you want to leave, and everything is set. There is no need to pull out your wallet and risk leaving it in the cab or dropping it on the street! Thumbs up, Union Cab! I'm in love with all this technology!! PS. If you get cab #59, you are in for a treat. The driver is a real sweetheart and a great conversationalist. The Saturday before Halloween is apparently not something the good folks of Madison, Wisconsin take lightly. #Freakfest I found myself in town visiting friends who live in the Madison-metro area and make it a point to celebrate the State street festivities every year. They live about 5 or so miles from the actual fest and because drinking and driving is never in style, they'd gone ahead and arranged a day in advance for 2 cabs to come pick our group of 7 up at their place of residence at 8:45pm. Now, this was my virgin visit to Madison at Halloween time so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, though I can't say I wasn't warned. I knew streets would be closed down and blocked off and this wouldn't be your typical Madison experience, but without seeing the Mad city madness first-hand, it was hard to anticipate just what we were up against when it came to our group versus on-time transportation on this hallowed eve. Union Cab did miss the mark as far as sending the two cabs that we'd ordered more than a day in advance to arrive at 8:45pm. The first cab arrived at 9pm to pick up the first half of our group off at the fest, but when the first group arrived at said bar and realized that the second group had still not been picked up, they asked if that cab could go back and get us, ya know, since there was supposed to have been another cab there 30 minutes earlier anyway. But the driver said they were unable to locate the second cab and that it was against the rules to come back and pick up the second group who were still waiting since they were not the assigned cab. Makes very little sense, but at the same time is sort of understandable on such a crazy eve, but the reservation should've counted for something. When we (the second group still at the house) tried calling Union, all we got were busy signals being that it's one of Madison's busiest cab nights of the year. So naturally, we did the only thing we could... crack open another beer and wait and chug and wait and chug and wait. It was just before 10pm when our cab finally arrived. The driver was super fun, quirky and costumed for the holiday and quickly made us forget about how Union had failed to provide us with transportation until over an hour after the previously scheduled and agreed upon time. Also worth noting, because it won Union back a lot of stars that would otherwise have been missing given the tardiness, is how immaculate the shiny, gleaming Toyota Prius cab was. It smelled divine, and not overpowering or like it had something to cover up. And -get this- it had cloth seats. CLOTH SEATS. It didn't smell like sh*t. ZERO crumbs. Sans stains. Not even a whiff of urine or vomit. Where the hell was I? Bizarro World, surely. So, while I don't know that I'd trust Union as my chariot on a big day where I needed to be somewhere in a timely manner (ala the airport), they were plenty fine for a casual booze-bender and the amenities (no puke stains or pee smells) made the ride a pretty enjoyable one. read more

Look, the kid was called saying a folder was left behind. Got in touch with the company and said when we'd get by. Got to the location and no one knew of what we were talking about. Took our names, called some drivers, reps and then appeared with a Lost & Found bucket. While we were digging no hat nor folder could be found but a guy emerges with the IPod Touch and it has a name and info wrapped around it. WTH! Me: That can't be ours Me: Did you know you lost this? Kid: umm, no Me: What? that's it - no more usage outside the house. Me to Man: Wow. Thank you sir. I seriously didn't think it belonged to us. Guy: Well, sorry we don't have your book or hat maybe it's elsewhere? My thoughts: I'm glad these folks have a lost and found process in play that is upheld by their employees.If something isn't claimed in X days then the driver that finds it gets to call dibs first. I think this policy brings about honesty because the driver labeled it correctly and laid claim to it if it wasn't picked up. I use them during the school year and Metro on an account but when it's all said and done - I appreciated this. After going to Madison to look for the missing items we were called about and seeing how it was handled - I became a fan of Union Cab. I am not experienced with taking cabs by any means. I finished my high school finals today and a cab came to pick me up. The driver was relatively nice. Aside from a comment he made when I told him where to go. You probably know that you don't tell a cab driver where to go but I needed to. That's part of what happened. The driver took me to the wrong street. Same street name but instead of circle it was court. He sad that it was not his fault and blamed someone else. Then his google maps wouldn't work so we had to use my phone to do it. That's when I told him to go straight through a roundabout and he said. I've been a taxi driver for 16 years I think I would like to know where to go. Was not a big fan of this comment as I was only trying to help,and he did need my help about how to get to my house and I was giving him directions about it. I use Uber/Lyft all the time for last minute rides downtown and in most other cities, but when I need a reliable ride to the airport or somewhere I REALLY need to be, I always call Union cab and schedule something. I live in Texas and my wife took a business trip to Verona. She realized she left something very important at home, so I contacted a business in Madison to purchase it for her. I contacted Union Cab for their courier service to get her item to the hotel. While I had some difficulty using their web site to place my order, Robert helped me get things done over the phone. He also gave me a follow-up call to let me know that everything is processed and my package should be delivered on time. I appreciate all the trouble he went through to help me take care of this problem. Union Cab is a fairly expensive option, but it is a reliable one. I ordered a taxi from Union to get to the airport for an early morning flight. I wasn't going to insist that a friend pick me up at 4:50 am or roll the die with Uber at that hour. I booked a taxi online two days before hand, and the whole process was quick and easy. Upon ordering the cab, I immediately received a confirmation email. Yay! The taxi showed up about 5 minutes early, which is fine since getting to the airport early never hurts. My driver loaded up my luggage and we were on the way. Turns out the driver was incredibly friendly and a veteran of the company. I appreciated the early morning conversation, despite not having sufficient coffee in take at that point. The ride was not awkward at all! He made good time in getting me to the airport and helped me unload everything. The fare ended up being just over $23. The same ride in an Uber would run you about $15. The extra money is worth the reliability if you're traveling at an odd hour. I realized later that I was never given a receipt, which I needed so the company I work for could provide a reimbursement. After a quick email to Union, I had a receipt in my inbox in roughly 2 hours. It's great to see such a quick response and good customer care! If you're not in a rush or you're not going to the airport, you could probably get a more affordable ride. In the case of Union Cab, you get what you pay for, quality and reliability. read more

Since giving up my car, I've resorted to ordering a cab on bitterly cold days to go to work, and the occasion of going out for the night. Generally every cab driver I get is super friendly, and makes some kinda of relateable small talk. And their rates aren't too terrible. It'll be about five to six dollars plus tips, for me to get to work.. which is a mile away ( yes I order a cab for only going a mile away when it's below zero. ) All in all, I haven't used another cab service cause I'm sincerely pleased with union cab! read more

Needed a last minute ride to the airport and used Union Cab's web reservation system for an early morning pickup. Last evening I asked for a 5:40 am pickup and gave credit card info. Immediately got confirmation with web link to follow status of the order At 5:39 the next morning the cab arrived and I was at the airport 26 minutes later. Driver and car very pleasant and professional. I was impressed with the efficiency of their reservation and receipt process and I appreciate the fact that they are a workers cooperative but what matters most to me is that they performed as promised. Pretty reliable for a cab company, although definitely not the cheapest choice in Madison. Their drivers are typically friendly and I've never had a bad one. Their prices are always highest when I've compared similar routes between other local taxis. I use them when I need a scheduled pickup, say if I'm going to the airport, because most of taxi companies don't offer that. read more

I love these guys! The drivers are interesting people and know their way around the town. What I like about union cab though, is their sense of responsibility toward the community. They treat their workers right, offering health care and reasonable hours, and they give free rides on voting day to anyone needing to go to the polls. I think it is interesting that we tend to prioritize our own experience but don't always ask questions about a company's wider impacts. And with Union Cab, we get both: a top experience when you use them, and knowledge that they are good for the world. :-) read more

Back for the birth of a super sweet grandbaby, I was hesitant to use the old family car at my disposal when the temps sunk to below -17... I took Union cabs yesterday, going to the hospital at 1pm and returning home at 4:30pm and both were excellent. Every driver I have encountered has been great! After a long week at EPIC I chose to have a 7am flight home. Of course my hotel did not provide shuttles at that time of the morning so I had to get a taxi. One of my mates in my class suggested Union Cab (she was cool so I followed her suggestion. I am usually an Uber girl but that early I didn't want to chance it alone. I ordered the cab online for 430am the night before and it was 10 min early and loaded my luggage right in the back!!! Great start Union Cab (the first thing out of towners worry about is if their cab will be on time). He drove the shortest route (I followed along on Google maps) which I appreciate knowing they charge by the mile :). Also, he was very plesant. I am not 2 much for small talk at 430 in the morning but it wasn't to much. From the Holiday Inn Madison West to Dane County Regional Airport it cost $42 and it's charged right to your card. I took away one star because the seats in my cab were extremelyyyy uncomfortable :( Next time you have an early AM flight in Madison and your hotel shuttle is not available I advise you to use Union Cab. read more

OK I had a bad experience recently when my pre-scheduled cab never showed and was never dispatched until I called. Still a great company that provides benefits to their drivers like medical insurance. Compared to cabs and even UBER in other cities, they are tops. That being said, they need to manage the passenger's expectation when they are crazy busy so other arrangements can be made. No need to stress out the passenger. I love Union Cab. read more

Disclaimer: I've only used union cab when I've made a telephone booking 24 hours in advance. I've been in a union cab for about 4 round trips in the last year. Every time I've called ahead and scheduled, the respective cab drivers have either been there 5 minutes early or on time. I've never had a rude driver, and each driver was really helpful with heavy luggage at the airport. They are not as cheap as the share-ride cabs (like badger), but I felt a lot safer and more comfortable in a union cab. read more

Union Cab is a great company and we are happy to support the union. The drivers are almost always on time if you order ahead. Most drivers are very nice and polite. Debbie is a great dispatcher, we love to get her and they keep our address on record. The airport is frustrating because it's like a shark attack. They will fill a cab and shove it full with 6 fares. We also got a rookie on the phone tonight when we tried to call a cab and he argued with me that my address didn't exist, he had a very annoyed tone to his voice and he hung up on me when I asked if he could wait a moment to see if someone else in my party had ordered one. I was extremely upset that he just hung up. Overall, we like the company. There are a few bad apples but not enough for the tree to be chopped down. read more

When Green cab said it would take an hour to get a cab it took Union cab less then 5 minutes!!! GARY, ANDY & NICK are the greatest! Had a girls weekend night out and they got us everywhere we needed to go in a timely fashion! The only issue we had was I told them 45 minutes they showed up with 10 minutes. having taken my share of cabs as an adult, i've happily settled on union as a first choice. i've always hopped into a well-kept, clean, stink-free cab when ordering union. every driver i've had in the past four years has been courteous, friendly, and can tell if they should or shouldn't engage in conversation; i can't say the same for the other, long-running companies in madison. i am at least acquaintances with more than a dozen drivers, and have heard plenty of stories (anonymous to the passenger, of course) of them going out of their way to help someone to their door, carry groceries, and get blacked-out people home safely; that last one speaks volumes... in general, when you put your transportation needs in the hands of someone else, you're giving up a privilege, which other reviewers appear to have taken for granted. you put your wallet, time, and safety in the hands of someone else for the convenience of getting to or from somewhere without needing to rely on your own car. read more

if i could give them 0 reviews i would. i am in town from CA for epic training & we decided to go to a cheese shop, which is less than 2 miles away. i called twice to confirm the price and also book the cab. the guy told me it would be less than $15 considering it is only 2 miles away. we get there and the driver tells us it is $10 plus $12 for staying in Verona (pretty much getting an extra fee for not going too far). we told him we weren't informed about the fee so he calls the dispatcher who asks "are they unable to pay?" so pretty much, if we would've said we're unable, the fee was not required NOR were we informed we had to pay. we give the guy $25, definitely asked for the change back & vowed to never call union can, screw this cab company. read more

I'm sitting next to a man in a wheelchair whose cab arrived an hour early for his appt and has made him wait over an hour for a cab to return him to his assisted living facility. His oxygen is running low, he has missed lunch, and the cab company has told him it would be there in ten minutes - five different times. If they treat their contracted customers like that, how are they going to treat you? read more

Good service. I've used appointments, shortnotice and airport cabs. Drivers usually know their way around, I've never caught them intentionally taking the long way to run the meter. They send an interactive text (or call you) on arrival. Some cabbies have been driving decades, lots of stories. One called himself a local historian on wheels. I found it interesting he said the checkers and name come from when there was one cab co. and it was a union. Deffinately reccomend splitting a cab, especially at the airport. It really saves money. Average fares; they take credit card. Also, cabbies like tips. Clean cabs; the new priuses are quiet but not as roomy as vans or Crown vics. Splitting one is probably a bad idea unless by yourself. What else is there.. They show up sooner than the competition, probably why I prefer them. Your milage may vary (ha). No Andy Kaufman sighting yet, I'll update if I spot him. read more

I've always had a great experience with Union Cab, and they are my top choice. Show up quickly, polite drivers, don't allow others to claim they are me. They are a co op not a true Union, but treat employees well. Refuse to Uber, as they take advantage of loopholes that exploit safety, and that money does not stay local. read more
