Wanted to come in for some food before it got crazy. Bouncer checked ID (it's from out of state as I work on the road) anyway he looked at it for 5 seconds asked for the zip code, it took me a few seconds to answer as I just moved there. he then immediately handed me back the ID AND WAVED ME OUT THE DOOR saying " go away." No call for someone to come double check nothing wouldn't listen to anything after and when I said it was a real Drivers license had the audacity to roll his eyes at me.... I really enjoyed this establishment. Danny, our bartender, was quite friendly and very nice to chat with. Remember, this is bar food... you go to a separate window to order your food, but the gentleman that helped us from the kitchen was very kind. He brought the food right to us while we sat at the bar. This establishment had a few slot machines, pool tables, and there is live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. All in all, I definitely recommend this place to anybody who is visiting Missoula Montana. read more

Favorite place in Missoula, hands down awesome! So I hit the union every time I go into Missoula. It's my kind of place, with my kind of people. Cheapest draft beer I have found in the downtown area. The lead bartender is fabulous. He just has a vibe. The other bartenders rock too. You get served fast and friendly. They play a shake game which is always a treat, even though I've never one. There are a couple of pool tables to play. And this place is very big. They serve great food in the back, at fair prices. And of course there is usually live music, which will get you up dancing in no time. Give me the union every time! Even going to the bathroom is an experience.... Do not let the exterior keep you from going inside. The bartender is fabulous!! She knows everyone and spends time making everyone feel welcome. She asked how long we were in town for and made a few recommendations. When we asked how she knew we were from out of town she said "Because I don't know you." Wow!!! Greeted with rudeness. Ordered two hamburgers and noticed the cook handled everything from money, receipts to the food right after without washing hands or using gloves. However, the bartender I encountered was judgmental and projected his insecurities onto me as a power play. This was my first time in Missoula and my friends took me to this dive bar for cheap drinks and grub! If you want good pub food this is the spot! You walk into the back of the bar and you order directly from the cook herself. She rocks so if you want good grub Kilty will treat you well! The mozzarella sticks had homemade bread crumbs. Delish! Good portion sizes too I couldn't even believe it! The drinks were reasonable as well. Overall a fun experience with darts and ping pong. Oh yeah and they have this game called shake-a-day! This place is phenomenal. Was in town for a wedding and we all came here for drinks and bar food. John, who is the owner, was really kind and welcoming. He bought my friend and his wife a drink to congratulate them on their marriage. The place is great and if you're looking for a no frills dive bar then you've landed in the right place. They have live music and it is just non stop entertainment and fun here. The night we came the band Mudslide Charlie performed and they put on a great show! All the bar tenders were great as well and did a stellar job keeping up with the volume of people asking for drinks. We ended up coming back the next day because it was so great. The food here is DELICIOUS! The BLT was great! The wings were fantastic. Get them tossed in the Creole sauce. Chicken tenders and chicken sandwich were on point. I didn't get the woman who was working in the evening but she was very kind. The next day we came back we were helped by Lee and he was the best. Just all in all a great experience here. Nothing. If kindness from everyone here and the people of Missoula! Will 100% be coming back here. read more

Geesh. Went there expecting a dive bar and it delivered. I love dive bars by the way. chilled, cheap drinks, good people. Why the two stars? Wasn't feeling great - rushed into the bathroom. What the heck?!! saloon doors with toilets side by side. Nice. You can sit there and strike up a conversation with the guy next to you. So apparently we can't afford stalls? We had the best experience on our dining experience. The cook was by himself & had swamped earlier that morning. Although he was very busy our hot wings, fries, & Philly sandwich were amazing. My wife and I enjoyed a fun and relaxed Sunday night shooting pool and enjoying good drinks served by Skye the bartender. As soon as we walked in, my wife told the bartender, "if I lived here, this would be my bar". I whole heartedly agree. The Union Club (first impression) is a relaxed local haunt. Union Club is a nice spot with some good specials and a handful of games. Besides darts and pool, they had ping pong and cornhole... seriously! Not that many bars that I've seen have those two! We were there on a Monday night, which means $3 micro-brews. Great night to grab a few pints and play some games with the boys. I've got no complaints about this place! We stopped in for some pre-concert food and drinks. We had basic well drinks, can't really go wrong there. Loved this place. I love a good dive bar and this one was dark and surprisingly well taken care of. When we pulled out the chairs at the bar they were not the cracked and well worn leather I was expecting but instead supple intact pleather. The sparkly gold and red bar was gaudy but clean and the bartender friendly and attentive. The bathroom was not scary and we had an overall favorable impression of the place. Picture a dive bar in a movie with the locals hanging out at the local union bar, smokey not so clean place, pool tables, cheap drinks, friendly staff who has worked there more than half their life, people who actually use the pay phone and of course TV's showing the local game and of course if you stay there long enough there is always a chance to catch a drunk bar fight. What I just described to you could be a local watering hole at many small towns and that is exactly what the Union Club is. I was impressed with the price of their drinks, I ordered 3 Jack on the rocks and 3 draft beers and it cost me a whopping 21 bucks! I wasn't asked for my union card when I arrived so I think this place is open to anyone as long as you are not wearing a jersey of the rival team. They do have a small stage so they might have some local bands playing once in a while. read more

I have had a number of nights at the Union, and they have all been awesome. There was an epic battle of cornhole (if you haven't played cornhole, you haven't lived. Just saying) on a Tuesday. Then there was the night that I came in as a guy was escorting a severely drunk blond woman in her mid-forties outside as she attempted to get him to buy her another drink and take her home. Another highlight: my friend and I asked what was on special, and the bartender told us pitchers of Kokanee. My friend: "It's brewed at the foot glacier. What could go wrong with that?' The Bartender: "Well, it's from Canada." Awesome. They also have great music and booths, lots of booths, from the days when there was a restaurant on the premises. Love the Union. read more

The Union Club has to be thought of as two very different bars. On the weekdays it is a middle of the road local pub w/ good beer (one of the only bars in town that can pour a pint of Guinness the right way), kind of a dive, a good place to go for a round or two after work. They have darts (the real kind. Not plastic tipped electronic ones), ping pong, corn hole, pool and what I hear is an excellent restaurant in the back of the bar. On Friday and Saturday nights however it is packed to the gills with people watching live music. The crowd is primarily older people partying like they were in there 20's, with a good mix of collage students. Not really my scene, but fun none the less read more

The Bar is great: cheap drinks, attentive bartenders, it feels like a dive but is clean. The Manager is a cunt, however. He skulks about obviously self-conscious about his tenuous authority, overdressed and ostentatious. Those who went to high school with this poor wretch should count themselves lucky and cursed: lucky they weren't the victims of a school shooter, and cursed because they didn't make this pitiful man welcome at their parties.... A brief tangible example: twenty minutes before closing time he's tapped a young patron on the shoulder, and offered a molest-ery uncle (though I expect he intended fatherly): "Come on bud, time to go;" the young man finished his beer and proceeded to the water coolers adjacent and our villain came by again with similar entreatments; the young man replied this time: "Yep, I'm moving just as fast as everybody else in here, sir;" everybody being a gaggle of 20 or so others; " Look, I asked you nicely...;" the manager trailed off; then the young man finished his last sip of water, tossed his cup into the waiting trash, and grabbed a horrified manager's hand - "Yes. Thank you for everything;" the manager was dumbfounded. read more

Beware the bartender if you go on a Sunday night! I waited for several minutes at what was apparently the wrong end of the bar before I moved to the other end to order a drink. When I did so, I made the mistake of saying "yes ma'am." I was then treated to a barrage of sarcastic "yes ma'am"s while she made my drink. I have a hard time understanding what I did that was worthy of such nastiness. She has no business in the service industry. read more

I have heard some great bands at the Union Club, and have often "staged" there with friends before and after Grizzly football games. My experience last weekend causes me to submit this review...The service has always been indifferent. Always just one slow moving bartender who obviously dislikes people and dislikes being there. Last weekend it was aggressively bad. I don't know why...most of us in our group were wearing the UM colors; a couple were wearing the colors of our opponent. So what? We were all impeccably behaved--average age 50. The people I was with are all huge tippers (a couple are bartenders themselves). The bartender--the lady who is always there when I've been there--simply refused to wait on us. It's frustrating trying to patronize a local business when the help makes a point of demonstrating that they don't care--if you come back, if you spend your money there, if you bring your friends there, or if you write a review warning people they may be in for an insulting, disappointing experience there. So here you go, Union Club...I probably will never know if things there can be better because I probably will never be back. read more

Having experienced the culture of the Union Club for fifteen years these brief comments couldn't do justice to this Historic Landmark; however, one must try. Yes, things change after management shifts; but know this, I met my wife in the Union Club, Art shows happened, some of the best Halloween parties are under my belt because of this fine establishment.
