I got to try another brewery out of Montana which was awesome! This time it's for Draught Works Brewery! I got the "That's What She Said" Cream Ale which I do enjoy getting this beer type and often feel that I don't come across it enough. But on my latest trip through Montana it felt a little bit more easy to find. Flavor highlights for this pleasant Cream Ale are creamy, sweet and clean in the profile department. The beer is also smooth and light bodied which we appreciate getting more often than not. Came in on our brewery crawl and loved the outdoor area with all the flowers. They had a ton of umbrellas so you can hide in the shade or go inside in the dark gloomy brewery area. The day we were there, they didn't have onsite food (but we were there midday on a Thursday). Staff was nice and service quick - we did a flight each and while we enjoyed the beers, I can't write home about any of them but they were all pretty decent. Their bathrooms were interestingly large and it had a huge booth inside? But seems like a great spot closer to town that you could walk back into town. read more

This brewery is tied for my second favorite in Missoula. We came here after running the half marathon and we got a free drink when we showed our medal! We didn't know they were doing this and the bartender told us it was all taken care of after we ordered. So nice! The beer was good - I liked all the samplers I got in my flight - and they had a large variety to choose from. It's a large space - it was pretty crowded but we were able to snag 3 spots at the bar. They were starting to set up for a band, so they have live music as well. read more

The only reason we stopped by on a Tuesday was because they had live music. Overall great evening. They have nice art to view and merchandise to buy. The atmosphere is very relaxed and they offer outdoor seating. Beers are good and can order flights. Service was helpful. They did have a Greek food truck, but did not try it. read more

A visit to DWB means my 250th brewery visit! DWB has a big patio area attached out front and a great room sized bar area inside as well. Music playing, people enjoying themselves, and just a really good vibe. I picked my own flight of four. "That's what she said" cream ale is a nice cream ale. Creams are generally pretty unassuming, easy drinking beers and this is no exception. That's not a bad thing at all as not every beer needs to have overpowering in your face flavor. Shadow Caster amber ale was what I needed. Malt, caramel and just a really good amber. SWPFTD will enjoy this as I'm going to take some home to her. No Sudden Moves barley wine was up next and was really nice. Last, kinda, was the dill pickle sour. I wasn't sure what to expect from this but it was quite good. Not super sour, and not so much pickle flavor that I felt like I was drinking straight pickle juice but good pickle flavor. As I was drinking my flight I got to talking to a gent next to me, Eddie, whose wife Riley was working the bar. Both of them were great and as we talked Eddie suggested I try Sweet Heat, the mango habanero IPA. Now I'm not usually a fan of spicy beers so I was reluctant but he ordered a pint and got a taster for me. The first sip was all habanero and I thought it was going to get way too spicy. Then it didn't. It was spicy but had great flavor and balance. As I type this I wish I had picked up a growler of it to take home. I may stop by tomorrow before I head out of town. Survey says? This business was a part of a SCAM St Patrick's day bar crawl. It's sad that the event made promises to its customers that were not carried out by the bars themselves. No one knew of the event or its promised specials. We were promised free drinks and exclusive food specials. We were looking for a brewery with an outdoor patio, amd of course it rained all day so we couldn't sit outside.. but that didn't stop us from enjoying several beers with the garage doors open. One of the things Missoula is known for is its breweries, and Draught Works stands out above the rest. You can find a wide array of beer on tap, as well as some delicious root beer that my kids can never seem to get enough of! The atmosphere here is welcoming and fun! The staff is friendly and don't mind sparking up a conversation with customers. In the corner of the brewery, there is a section for local singers and musicians to perform, which adds to the fun vibe. You can usually find some sort of food truck in the parking lot so you don't have to even leave the property to have some amazing beer and food. read more

Cool place with a friendly staff and great beer. The only thing keeping it from getting a higher rating is the poor parking, lack of food and odd regulation preventing you from having more then 3 beers per evening. Not sure why but there was no food truck on the evening we stopped in. We did have a couple of their Shreddy Day winter IPAs which were amazing. Cool brewery with lots of craft beer on tap. Stopped in while on a road trip last week out of state and enjoyed the live music plus the atmosphere. Even with 40 minutes before close, it was still busy. I didn't get to try their flagship Scepter IPA, but I did try a couple of red ales - an ESB and an amber. The amber ale was far better than the ESB. The restriction on three beers a night is a statewide rule, not a brewery rule. Decide your beers before you visit! read more

My husband and I love coming to this brewery! It always has the best brews and great atmosphere. Large patio in the summer with different food trucks during the week. Ok y'all so I tried this beer at a beer fair in Livingston earlier this year and I thought I enjoyed the beer but cooking in now I love the beer very much. The space is real cool it feels like an oasis of joy and beer tucked away in a cool neighbourhood. I'd been wanting to come to draught works for quite a while - boy am I glad I finally did! When you enter the building you can see right where they are brewing which added to the experience. The guy working the bar was very helpful and let us try a handful of tasters to ensure we got a pint of something we liked. I ended up getting the shadow caster amber ale. Oh my goodness was it good! I highly recommend it. We also got a pint of their new "weird science" blonde ale which I enjoyed as well, but not nearly as much as the shadow caster. They have food options as well which looked interesting, but I didn't splurge for any of them. We sat outside in the sun, though they have umbrellas over many of the tables to provide shade. All-in-all, it was a wonderful experience with great beer - I'll be returning soon! read more

Sometimes life in Missoula can feel like the lyrics to a Sheryl Crow song. Case in point: drinking beer at noon on a Tuesday at Draught Works Brewery, just me and the bartendress, and a $4 pint of Chain Reaction Fresh Hop Pale Ale. The music echoes in the cavernous interior; I read a few chapters from Pam Houston's latest novel, Contents May Have Shifted, and for 20 minutes or so, time slips away. The beer gradually recedes. My mind settles down, my pulse slows, and then I realize: this is *not* a normal place, this place they call Missoula. Here, people pick hops from their fields and within 24 hours it's brewing in a downtown beer works (once a dairy barn), which is across the street from an Asian wood furnishings import store, and next to a rock climbing gym (Freestone). And the hops were transported 50 miles from Corvallis *by teams of cyclists* who raced them home. hence the name, "Chain Reaction." Cool, in a weirdly obsessive sort of way. Here, you can eat empanadas for lunch made with local pork sausage from Whitefish, and one with goat cheese and organic beets, then you can head down the street to snag a fresh pint, and you can still be back at work before your lunch break ends. If you walk real fast. And nobody will think it is even a little bit odd that a lone stranger steps into an empty bar at 1 minute past 12 pm, asks for a fresh hopped pale ale, and then pulls a book out of his Patagonia shoulder bag before starting to read. The yeasty aroma of beer mingled with the savory scent of bacon. The bike rack bulged with beverage coozie-equipped ten-speeds. Climber dads, beardies, and yuppies converged on Draught Works with the intensity of college freshmen going after Keystone light. This was no ordinary day at the brewery. I patronized Draught Works for the 2014 installment of the Bacon N' Beer Breakfast. Upon entering its hallowed foyer, a strapping young woman offered me and my girlfriend bacon maple donuts. Then, she presented us with our paper passports good for four frothy beverages. I winked at a barmaid. She poured me 12 oz. of their Coffee Stout. It was gone faster than grammatical correctness at a Missoula Pachyderms meeting. My stomach growled for something besides Coffee Stout and fried dough though. I entered the buffet line, still clutching my sweet and bacony breakfast confection. Steaming piles of glistening meat met my hopeful gaze. I herded mounds of greasy sausage, tender bacon, scrambled eggs, and watermelon-bacon-pineapple kebabs onto my flimsy paper plate. I winked at the barmaid again. A golden-haired Norse goddess coaxed liquid bread from the tap. A more perfect beer was never poured. This time it was "That's What She Said" Cream Ale garnished with strawberries and mint. It tasted like Krispy Kreme frosting. It was gone within milliseconds. My next victim was a Scepter Head IPA, then another Cream Ale. After finally slaking my thirst, I emerged from the brewery at noon, ready to take on the day. read more

This craft brewery is one of many in Missoula, but is by far my FAVORITE. There is always a new flavor or combination that you can try and of course still get those classic faves. I highly recommend the "That's What She Said" Cream ale and the "Gwin Du" oatmeal stout. If you're an IPA or sour fan, they have many options as well. Let's talk location, it's nestled right next to the railroad line and if you're lucky you'll catch a train going by or just hear the energetic horn blow in the distance. Wanna cure away those Monday Blues? On Monday's with a growler fill you also get a free pint..yup that's right any beer for free! There's usually a live band or the option for darts. Walk out onto the patio and you are greeted with views of the Valley and a location to enjoy a nice cold craft beer on a sunny day all while taking in the fresh mountain air. Make sure to pick your three favorites cause you're only allowed to have 3 beers total. This was my very first stop after a 10 hour travel day, and my first taste of the Missoula locale. (Which by the way, truly embodies small town USA with the generosity, friendliness and casual conversation). The homey, eclectic atmosphere was welcoming and the staff were friendly and not to mention patient with my low-sugar, jet lagged brain. I first tried a flight, and I don't know if it was the jet lag or cleansed palate from the crisp Montana air, but it may have been the BEST flight I've ever had. My absolute favorite was the Brown Chicken Brown Cow - Brown Ale with Chai. Holy delicious, warming, subtly sweet, and refreshing. The spices were just right and the name is wonderfully fun and clever. The other three included, I yam what I yam, the double IPA, and My Ruca. A tried to dabble in a beer for each season to get a year's taste in one sitting. All respectively yummy. Noshed on some cheese curds, which traditionally are consumed cold - didn't know that but still delicious all the same. Probably would have been amazing melted on of the pretzels. Someone try that and let me know. The three-pint limit was new to me, so if it is for you as well - choose wisely. FYI that's 3 flights if you are really indecisive or up for trying the whole pull. A MUST stop when passing through especially for beer enthusiast - or anyone looking for a relaxing time. Be careful though, this place could convince you to stay in Missoula. read more

We went when it was really busy so no flights and no food just pints. Great job by the staff though it was 4 waitresses and they killed it rotating in and out of circulation hitting every table and making sure their were no empty glasses, very efficient. Great beers, some really awesome IPAs that arn't just bitter hops but actually have some flavor. A few unique beers with strong flavors not for people who like cheap beer. I'm guilty of judging a book by it's cover, back when the place 1st opened, I almost pulled out of the parking lot as quickly as I pulled in. Could this really be it, I though? I pondered whether I should go in or not, because the building looked pretty sketchy on the outside. Ah what the hell, I though, let's just go in and see. So glad I took a chance, the interior is just my kind of place. Trendy, modern, warm tones, spacious...it's awesome. There are a lot of breweries in the West. I went to Draught Works after having one of their beers at Slainte in Butte. The barleywine was very tasty and smooth. Since it was closing time, that is all I had the chance to drink. The brewmasters were cleaning up at the end of the night and sampling some of their craft. True craftsmanship to brewing. Great beer, glad they are open during COVID. However, service continues to be nominal. Hostess was rude, a bit condescending, and waitress was not much better. Most of the staff was good but the hostess that greeted and seated us was very rude from the start as we requested to be seated on the deck. Her demeanor and body language were very clear and she was committed to making a point and making our experience frankly really bad. Additionally, after leaving, I checked my receipt and was charged for 2 Pineapple Express beers that we never ordered. I called as soon as I noticed, (within minutes) gave the code from the receipt and was told that I would see a repayment on my card or a gift card. It's been 5 days and I've not heard a word. Not getting out a lot and I don't need to be treated poorly. Not likely to be high on my list for future evenings. read more

I LOVED the atmosphere here and the beer was pretty good, too. I had a blueberry pale ale which was awesome. My husband's IPA wasn't the best he's had in MT, but there has been some strong competition. No food served here but there was a food truck outside as well as a popsicle stand. I could tell this is a place locals go to relax on a Friday night, which is always a good sign! We were there around 6pm and there was limited seating but still several tables open. If you're looking for a quiet spot to relax and talk - this is not the place, it's a fun and loud place! Definitely a place to check out for at least one MT beer! read more

I stopped by here yesterday with my wife and her parents for a drink. Draught Works has a huge space with both indoor and outdoor seating. Since it was hot outside they had some misters going on the outdoor seating. The inside seating area here is quite large with a giant open roof area and Christmas lights on the beams. As with all of the other breweries that I have visited in MT I decided to order a flight here. Draght Works certainly had the most interesting names/flavors that I had seen in Missoula and so I went with a blood orange gose, bluebarian, Bobs your uncle (an esb) and finally a pineapple IPA. First up for me was the pineapple IPA which I was really looking forward to since I love both pineapple and IPAs. I definitely got the sweetness of the pineapple shining through and while I got a little bit of the hops I wished there was some more. Next up was the ESB and it also delivered with some nice flavors. Third up was the Bluebarian which I think was supposed to be a blueberry APA based upon the name. I got some fruitiness from it but couldn't tell it was blueberry and would never have guessed it was an APA. Last but certainly not least was the blood orange gose which was also a combination of two things that I love. I actually really enjoyed this beer as the blood orange flavor came first and was followed by that dryness which is characteristic of a gose. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Draught Works seemed to be the most inventive of all of the breweries that I visited in Missoula and put out some darn good beer as well. read more
