The Loft especially is legit one of my favorite places in Portland! I'm going to try to keep this short because I have SO MUCH to say. I always knew I wanted to get married at Union/Pine and it was easy to convince my husband. I have been there for previous events but when I toured it with him , he instantly agreed that this was the place we needed to get married. It's the perfect size for an wedding of under 120 and you can have the ceremony and reception at the same place which is very convenient. The space is lovely with its exposed bricks and wood floors. I only dressed the space up with floral because in my opinion, you don't have to do much to make it look any better! It's so great on its own. I decided to use a Day of Coordinator and Cassy(the manager) paired us up with Kelly. I was pretty stressed leading up to the wedding because my family lives in another state and I didn't have them here to help me but Kelly made it a lot easier to relax. I started working with her a month before the wedding and she constructed a super detailed timeline for all our vendors and communicated with them so that I could focus on other things. The day of the wedding she did a fantastic job of making sure that things ran smoothly and kept checking on me to make sure that I was okay. She was so calm and collected that it made me feel the same way. It was nice to know that somebody else was there to orchestrate the show and you could just sit back and enjoy your night. I highly recommend using her help! I can't thank Union/Pine enough for the amazing day. The staff is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and makes you feel calm which is worth everything. Union/Pine was the first vendor we booked for our big day and was truly the most beautiful venue we could have ever imagined for ourselves. It has a rustic farmhouse charm while also having an industrial feel - the best of both worlds! We hired Cassy of Ashwood Design Co. (one of the venue's managers) to execute our event design and are so glad we did - she was so knowledgable about the venue specifics and it made the process a breeze. Cassy was also our main point of contact for the venue throughout the planning steps and was always quick to respond with any answers to our questions. Union/Pine is beautiful, spacious, affordable, flexible, and unique, and we loved the open catering + vendor policy allowing us to truly customize our event to suit us best as a couple. In addition to the main venue space, we rented out The Loft upstairs for getting ready that morning and our wedding crew absolutely loved how big and well equipped it was. We just had our wedding at Union/Pine and it couldn't have been a better experience. We worked with Cassy the whole time- great communication, flexible, kind and personable. Through all the wedding hiccups along the way she was fantastic! As a venue, they're so EFFICIENT to work with! They keep weekly and monthly check ups and communications leading up to the event day. If you pick vendors from their list of recommendations (Lamb's Table Catering, Classic Vintage Rentals is what we chose and LOVED) it's even easier of a process. Never even communicated with Classic Vintage because U/P did it all for us! They have a great variety of in-house things you can rent (couches, tables, decor) that are both complimentary and available for rent. You submit a layout and they do the rest for you! The location is fantastic and the price is definitely right. I loved bragging on the Union/Pine- it's used for many different events and like I told everyone, it's the best blank canvas for creatives. Union/Pine made it soo possible to have the beautiful (yet affordable) wedding of our dreams. The venue set up itself is beautiful and takes very little to dress it up for the occasion. I kept my decorations real simple, y'all, and did not use a planner and still had everybody swooning. The flexibility with the vendors also made it easy to stay within budget. Great Event Space We had a work event here and it was just about perfect for what we rented it for.. We were able to cater food in as well as organize the tables and seating to best fit our needs. There is a section for a bar and a small food service area. The price was very reasonable The location is perfect It's DJ or small live band friendly Restrooms are clean and modern. I found places like Union Pine a "hard find" because, most places want to cater your event and lots of people want to bring or cook their own foods, at least the people I know do.. I like Union Pine. Union Pine is an event space. They have an outdoor bench seating space. There are two levels inside. The first level up several steps from the street is about 20x15 feet. The second level has a bar and bathrooms. L shaped floor plan. Ping pong table. A fine rental and event space, strongly recommended! They often have art shows the first Friday of any month. What wonderful spot for a gathering. My favorite Sister in Law had her wedding here. It was a beautiful event and everything was perfect. Our kids were in the wedding, so we arrived extra early. The staff were still tinkering away working on every last detail. Everyone was professional, dressed nicely, they were friendly, and welcoming. Not a single "why on earth are you freaks here so early, we're not ready" The vibe they created was so happy, exciting, and pleasant. What a romantic setting it was, greenery everywhere, and little candles in every nook all around. This venue is so perfect for creating exactly what the bride and groom want for their special day. There are no set colors or themes, it's your party- and you get to decide exactly how it's going to look. It's very large, open, and has THE BEST dance floor!! So much fun was had because it's very spacious. There are two levels, so you can really see what's going on on the dance floor. Also, the stairs and balcony provide for excellent photo opps. There is a room off to the side for changing or hiding, a great bar set up, and a really neat kitchen with a window. The front entrance door is right next to the dance floor, so it was never a hot/sweaty scene. Actually the entire building was always a really comfortable temp. It makes a difference when the crowd rolls in, and the room isn't stifling. If you're scouting out great venues- don't pass this one up. The only reason why I don't give it 5 stars is because the acoustics, and wide open space make for a very loud dinner party. I mean waaaaaaaay loud. The sound of talking and laughter didn't bother us, but it is definitely worth mentioning. My advice: Turn that microphone up if you're giving a speech! Play soft music ( perhaps a harp) during dinner and hold up a sign that says "Quiet Please" (Totally your choice). Our entire family loved celebrating here, and it was one of the best weddings I've ever attended. read more

It was a pleasure working with Cassy for our October wedding at Union Pine. Union Pine was immediately our first choice of venue & I'm so happy to have had such a special event there! The space itself is a beautiful blank canvas - warm & with a vintage feel - & is divided into three areas that flow seamlessly. We had our ceremony (60 guests) in the sunken living room, cocktail hour in the bar area, dinner in the back room, then karaoke back in the living room. We used several of the items available at Union Pine (couches, chairs, etc.) & completed the look with outside rentals & floral. I worked with Cassy & several other people for over a year as I planned & they were always responsive & helpful. Union Pine was the only venue for us. I'm so grateful! read more

The lighting coming in through the windows makes for beautiful photos. The wood floors + brick walls give the space a nostalgic vibe. The space feels intimate and cozy. We had our wedding here in July 2016 and it was such and lovely place to have an intimate wedding of 60 people! It is such a photogenic space, inside and out. The green room is also super adorable and perfect for getting ready photos. We dined or marriage license in there as well. It was so convenient to be able to have both the ceremony and reception in the same venue. Also a plus - dogs are allowed in the space! Woo! Communication with Via was smooth and easy, and she was great to work with in securing our wedding date by contacting other couples who were considering the same day within just a couple days - during a busy winter holiday week! Our day-of coordinator, Nola, was amazing! She had such a calm and got-it-all-under-control vibe, which I think is so important for the bride and from - and is just the sweetest! Nola was instrumental in keeping us on schedule and transitioning, and did a great job handling mini-emergencies that came up. We highly recommend her! All our friends who helped out with the wedding also spoke very highly of her. read more

Update. I threw a party here and guess what? The last line of my initial review stands. I still want to throw a party here... again. Because these folks are awesome to work with. The venue is exceptional. The prices are totally fair. And I really can't ask for much more. They even have a certain amount of on-site equipment for rent (at competitive prices to a local rental house) so you can save on delivery depending on what you need (things like bistro tables, a couple of banquets, etc). Seriously, I could not have been happier with the staff, the style, and the event flow at this space. Now I need to add on another "want". I want to attend an Association dinner here. And yes, I want to throw more events here. read more

I have been to a number of events here, and it is a really great space. Conveniently located in inner SE Portland, Union Pine is a fairly large space that the owners have smartly split up into several different areas, while still maintaining the open floor plan. There is a large space for dancing, with plenty of room for a DJ or small band, an area to queue for the bar, and a sunken area with couches for a lounge feel. The sound is really good - with an industrial-style space like this, it would be easy to end up with annoying echoes, but they have done a good job with insulating the space so the music is loud enough but not overwhelming. The design is industrial hip, with wood and concrete floors, exposed beams, and a pine-front bar. I don't know the owners but have heard from others that they are really nice and accommodating. Two criticisms: 1) When you walk in, the flow of traffic (and the visual flow) tends to lead you straight forward, up the stairs, to the bar area. If a lot of people are waiting at the bar, it can get REALLY crowded in that small part of the space. I wonder if there is some sort of visual element they can put in that would encourage people to go to the right (edited because I accidentally said left) through the lounge area, instead, which would cut down on crowding around the bar. 2) I have attended several parties and a banquet here. The space is great for cocktail and other parties, but really didn't work for a banquet. It's not large enough to put a lot of round tables, and the setup they had with several large, very long, rectangular tables squeezed in did NOT work. It was too crowded, the tables too close together, it was hard to talk to your tablemates, and there wasn't a good place to put the buffet, so the line for food snaked right into the tables. No dice if you want to feed a bunch of people. read more

Built in stage, bar area, sunken living room/greeting area at the front & all a blank canvas. A great place to embrace the industrial look or has the bones to get creative! Union Pine was a beautiful place to have our wedding. The space was exactly what we were working for and the staff answered our questions along the way. One word of warning, when you look at the price and decide its in your price range note that everything is extra including use of the little greenroom and it adds up substantially. However, our wedding there was gorgeous and we have no regrets. Open catering policy is great. Venue is so gorgeous you can skimp on decorations. Sonos sound system was very easy to use, so we saved on a DJ by making a playlist. read more

We had a staff retreat in January and occupied The Loft. In a word, the Loft is simply awesome. Wide open space, nice urban, but homey feel, and loved being able to use the kitchen that included a refrigerator and coffee maker. The staff were very accommodating and one of them gave me their contact info in case we needed anything during our stay. I will say that the only bad thing was how quickly extra costs added up. We were charged what I felt like an exorbitant moving fee for having couches and chairs arranged in a circle. We also had to pay extra for the use of the parking lot since street parking is very limited in the area. What I thought would be an affordable retreat got expensive very quickly. The space was absolutely beautiful, but I can't say that I would pay these high prices again. We did have an amazing experience though and I don't regret the use of Union/Pine. read more

It is really unfortunate that I have to give this place even one star. While the space is cool enough, these folks don't have a clue about how to run a business or manage an event. My husband and I threw a small casual wedding reception here (we got married out of the country) for our local friend and family. When we booked our event with these folks we were told that we would have the venue for the afternoon and evening and the time we departed was completely flexible, we would just pay the difference if we stayed later than we initially planned. The Friday before our event the management of this establishment decided to book another entire wedding in the evening of our event and told us we would absolutely need to be out by a certain time and then asked us if we could cut our party even shorter. When we told them no, they made us resign a new contract with completely different rules and removed all of the nice props that makes this place worth renting. We also had multiple people from the later event showing up and trying to set up early in our space during our wedding reception. This might be a great place to do a photo shoot, have a band play or host an art show but this is a horrible place for anything wedding related. Brides beware! Don't let these idiots mess up your wedding or reception. read more

We held our big day here and it was just about perfect! The space is beautiful on its own, so if you're looking to minimally decorate with some candles and flowers, this is the place for sure. The wood, the lighting, the bar, the furniture - all easily sets a stage for class and style. We planned our wedding on our own and Cassy was super flexible and accommodating throughout the entire process and was even there the evening of the wedding to make sure it went off without a hitch. This is a great venue! Built-in stage, built-in bar set-up, sunken living room and plenty of open space! It's a do it yourself type place, choose your own caterer and bring your own drinks. However this also makes this place super affordable as far as venues go. The only thing holding me back from adding that 5th star is the bathroom situation! Not easy for big groups and the lock was broken! Awkward! Probably should fix that before renting it out for a large event! read more

Summer has put together a spectacular venue and a really great team! We had our wedding here, and it was just all you could hope for. They let you use whatever caterers you want- we brought in Por Que No? for food, brought our own wine and champagne, had outside vendors for rentals, ice cream, etc, and everything was laid back and professionally handled! There is a great bar, a kitchen for your use, and the space is just a fantastic layout. People can be partying and also hanging out and visiting on couches. It's just a very special and unique place.
