SO delicious!! I was crazing pizza and am so happy by this entire experience. Everyone was so nice, the restaurant was super cute and the food was insane! I ate the entire pizza. 10/10 will revisit next time I'm in town!

So good. It has a variety of options on the menu and all are very interesting. I have been many times and it is always a fun experience. Why you ask? Besides the food, the staff is knowledgeable, fun, experienced and attractive (not just in looks but style, attitude and confidence).

Food - the saving grace. The pizza was very tasty, well priced and a great size for two. 3 stars Service- Hummm... not impressed with front door host. The host sets a tone for the experience in a restaurant; a bad host can ruin the experience and a good host can elevate it exponentially. We walked in and were not greeted. The host said, "just two of you" and then walked us past all the windows to the back of an empty restaurant, placed the menus down and walked away. No, "is this okay?" So we stood there before someone asked if we were ok. Then we were sat in the front with a warning, "you're only two, so you must sit in a two top table" whatever in a fairly empty restaurant at 5pm on a Monday. 0 star The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the Space; the staff all seemed like they wanted to be somewhere else or we maybe weren't hip enough for them. The ambiance is modern, hip and busy. 1 star

We arrived at 5:15 on a Saturday night and Union Pizzeria was already hopping. We were able to get a seat at the end of the bar, which worked great. Union hit all the right notes on our first visit - great atmosphere, helpful, friendly staff, amazing food and drink. To start, I ordered a Campfire Old Fashioned. Slight sweetness followed by a bit of smoke. Aptly named drink. We shared the kale and cauliflower appetizer- can't recall it's official name. The bartender recommended it and he was spot on. Delicious! Next we shared the prosciutto arugula pizza, another winning dish. Union is a bit on the pricier side, but everything we ate was delightful. I'll come back for sure on a future trip to Evanston.

First off, parking is challenging around here and be sure to make a reservation if you can because on a Friday evening, the wait time for walk-ins was around 45 minutes when we got there. Thank goodness I had a reservation, and they seated us right away! I got excited by the guava in the one-two punch cocktail, but I thought it was a bit too tart for my preference. I ordered the dates for an appetizer, and those were delicious. I wish they provided bread with it because the sauce is so delicious. I LOVE cacio e pepe, so I order it anytime I see it on a menu. Theirs was good, but I thought it was a bit on the salty side, however delicious nonetheless. I saw that the lamb sausage pizza is one of their popular items, so I also ordered that. I missed that it has olives, and I was already kinda nervous about the eggplant. The lamb sausage pizza is okay. The lamb flavor isn't prominent in the sausage, and I thought the olives were overpowering. I tried a slice of my husband's bacon and shrimp pizza. It's a lovely mix of salty, sweet, and spicy from the raw jalapeños. Be aware - they don't remove the seeds from the jalapeños!

Definitely 5 stars for the food AND the service. We stopped in last night at 6pm and they were busy. We sat at the bar and had the Caesar salad and dates for an appetizer. The salad was great but the dates? Absolutely amazing. I'm glad that the bartender Ben recommended them. We each had our own pizza , one was the sausage and spinach with a bechamel sauce which was superb and the other was pepperoni and sausage. The first was insanely good and the other was fantastic. Sausage and pepperoni sounds basic but the flavors were incredible along with the crusts on both. What I really want to comment on was the service. Our empty plates and glasses were never sitting there for long, quickly taken away and replaced when needed. Watching the entire staff work as a team was cool. When the staff takes ownership of the entire dining room you know you're in the right place. Thank you to the entire staff for a fantastic meal and experience. We will definitely be back soon.

I went with two friends to Metekhi. We focused on the vegetarian dishes this time (though we eat everything), and got the cold appetizer combo along with a tomato/cucumber salad; another cold appetizer with eggplant; a hot bean stew and another hot main course with mushrooms, potatoes and a little tomato sauce. The food was wonderful, and these days where you often get ripped off for really mediocre food, I was pleasantly surprised. Each dish was prepared with a lot of love and care, well seasoned, NOT overusing oil, butter or salt, and also beautifully presented. The herbal seasonings were unusual to me, but delicious. They have a lot of vegetarian/vegan options, which is really cool because I expected a menu with cuisine from this part of the world to be very heavy on meat and starches (I'm half-Polish, have been to Poland, Russia, the Czech Republic, and have tried other Eastern European and Central Asian cuisines). The decor is also really cozy and nicely decorated to convey the vibes of Georgia. Amazing how the inside of these strip malls can be transformed. Come and support this new gem in Skokie/Skevanston. I really want them to succeed, because sometimes I shake my head at what places fill crowds and get great ratings in this area. Metekhi is genuinely good. It's not cheap, but as bagel joints can charge nearly $15 for a sandwich today, it's seems to be the sad times we're in, so you want a memorable experience incl. food/service/ambience. Metekhi delivers on all three. Sharing a few dishes here with friends is a good idea.

We didn't love the pkhlovana version as much, but it was still very good (just a lot of onion flavor when we ordered). While super basic, their fried potatoes are insanely good. I'd also recommend any stew on the menu. They have a great selection of Georgian wines as well, which I highly recommend. For those who don't drink alcohol, they offer a wide variety of compotes as well. The decor/ambiance is very Eastern European. There is a coat check at the entrance which is very handy. Service is very friendly, but they have seemed understaffed the times we've gone. It did take some time to get the waitress' attention, but it also seemed that she was the only one taking orders from several tables. Definitely a slower service, but it's good for large groups to talk over a great meal.

They also kindly cut and arranged the cheese for us, and it was perfect for two people. We got to try four wines: Italo Cescon Pinot Grigio, Schild Estate GMS, Viva Valentina Sangiovese, and Chateau Kefraya Les Breteches. The GMS and sangiovese were definitely my favorite. We'll absolutely be back. Reservations are highly recommended - the restaurant is very small and cozy. I didn't love the hold on a credit card for the reservation and will watch to see when it falls off as someone else on here commented on an issue they had. It would be nice if it could be applied to the bill. Now - onto the dining experience: after being seated, we were promptly brought bread along with wonderful chilled house butter and a duck pate. Really great. We got two appetizers, two meals, and a dessert: Escargot - perfectly seasoned, wonderful sauce that struck a perfect balance of flavors. The puff pastries on top were done to perfection. This was a really great rendition of a classic. Maybe one of the best we've had. Spring Rolls - This was a miss for me and the reason I didn't do a 5 star for this visit. I debated between this and crispy goat cheese and wish I would've done the goat cheese. This had mushrooms, sweet cherries (they looked to be maraschino cherries based on the bright red, which was off), and spinach. It says it has Brie, but I didn't get much of that. The texture of the wrapper was chewy (even difficult to cut) and the flavors didn't come together in a good way for me. It just wasn't pleasant and actually off putting. However, the greens and vinaigrette it sat on were fantastic. If that's an indication of what a salad would be - I'd order one in a heartbeat. Mushroom Risotto- Absolutely delicious. Perfectly done risotto. Wonderful flavors that came together like a symphony. In addition to the incredible mushrooms, there were some diced pieces of asparagus and a few tomatoes. They each were such great quality and favorable. So fresh. The mushroom flavor was the star - but the other components were a great supporting cast and it was so well seasoned. Just the right amount of garlic and other flavors. Nothing overpowered the other. They played off one another. It was a warm hug in a bowl. I'd eat this every day if I could. BBQ Glazed Beef Short Ribs - This was also a hit. Perfectly done, deboned short ribs that were wonderfully seasoned and deliciously glazed. They sat on top of a wonderful helping of mashed potatoes in a red wine Demi glaze. There were delicious carrots and asparagus that played well with the entirety of the dish. The flavors were incredible. While not my order, I did sneak a taste and saw why the person I was with was enjoying it so much. Great portion and really wonderful comfort dish. Chocolate Mousse Cake - Delicious layers of chocolate cake and chocolate mousse. What could be better? Well, having it sit on a chocolate sauce, with a mango puree and a few fresh raspberries and blackberries, of course. It was the perfect way to avoid chocolate overload. It all came together so well. Other callouts: Parking wasn't obvious if you've never been there, but you're able to park in the lot at the auto shop next door. Confirmed this ahead of time. Staff were helpful and friendly. They checked-in just enough. Able to give recommendations too. Portions were generous (but not overly/obnoxiously so). I'd say this was perfect. Already looking forward to returning.

Found out it's Italian, so based on positive reviews, my wife and I went there early last night. To start they bring out a warm mini-loaf of crusty bread with a small serving of garlicky olive tapenade -- we knew right away we were gonna enjoy this place. The Bella salad had a huge amount of arugula, pear, figs and goat cheese, enough for two. My wife had a special: spinach stuffed ravioli, with a paper thin dough -- very light and buttery. I had the tasty vermicelli amatriciana -- a huge serving, the leftovers was my lunch today. What's interesting was the waitstaff tag-teamed us: Everyone could do everything from take our orders to bus dishes -- you could see they were pros, had worked together for a long time. The only negative (which I will not deduct a star for): There were two huge TV's playing with their sound off -- this did not add anything, were rather distracting. But the food and service won us over -- we will be back.

I was trying to find a place at least midway between us and discovered Carlos and Carlos on Yelp. Carlos and Carlos is old school from the perspective you actually have to call the restaurant to make a reservation. The space itself is located in what I think is a condo building. The space itself is compact, with tables relatively close together. We ended up sitting at table next to the kitchen door, which for me turned out not to be too bad as we were not sitting on top of other folks. The restaurant and bar were packed as it was a Saturday. Based on the size of the space and number of tables, I would strongly suggest making a reservation if you go there. We started out with fresh bread and one of their specials for the night: flash fried calamari served w/fresh tomatoes, pepperoncini peppers, shaved garlic, black olives, capers & garlic butter. This was a first for me as I have never had calamari served this way and it was great. Definitely a dish I would drive back to get. The bread was wonderful and hot. I could see through the kitchen as fresh bread was being pulled out of either a warmer or oven, not sure. It was served with some sort of olive oil and pesto, I think. It made for a lovely spread on the bread. For dinner I ordered a dish called "Meatballs" and it was just that, a whole lotta meatballs with some spaghetti thrown in as a side...HAHAHA! Not complaining, just staying a fact. The meatballs and pasta were good, but I would say there was a fair amount of garlic in the dish. I had my dish as a leftover and as I was warming it up, The Doctor commented that he could smell the garlic. The Doctor had the Pollo Vesuvio, which also came with pasta. I had a small piece and it was pretty nice. Again there was more meat than pasta, but again we were not complaining. The chicken was nice and tender and had a lovely flavor to it. My GF got the Risotto Al Fungi (Arborio served with wild mushrooms & goat cheese). Prior to sampling her dish, I would have absolutely stated that this was a dish I would not order in a restaurant as I wouldn't have any interest in it. I tried a spoonful of my GF's and was amazed at how good it was! The broth that the risotto was cooked in was chicken and I think beef. That with the goat cheese made this a very nice dish and the second reason I would drive here to do a repeat visit for dinner. Portion sizes were nice as The Doctor and I had plenty to eat and enough for light snack the next day. My GF had no leftovers, she became a member of the clean plate club. For dessert we shared a slice of the chocolate mousse cake, which was really nice. It had a lovely dark flavor to it and was creamy in texture. Service was nice and everyone was friendly. There is plenty of street parking within walking distance as well. While this is a bit of a drive for us to get to since it is outside of the city, I could see coming back here. I think I want to try a serving of that risotto on my own instead of a taste.
