This is a solid place with good eats and a great atmosphere if your looking to relax and have a drink. We enjoyed eating here when visiting Spokane Falls. The food was delicious and the service was good - and everything was reasonably priced. We ordered two specials. The turkey pot pie and the Bacon Broccoli Penne. Both were really good! The Turkey Pot Pie was one of the best I've had in a long time. The service was good. Our order was taken fairly quickly, the food came out quick, and we were checked in on a couple of times. The restaurant was a little loud. The tables are fairly close together. I had one of the best cesar salads I've ever had here last night! The lettuce was fresh and crisp, the dressing perfectly tangy and creamy- they mix finely shredded parmesan into the dressing- PERFECTION!! And I have to mention the homemade croutons, delicious!! It's a deceptively simple salad that a lot of restaurants just butcher by taking shortcuts but not here! My friend got hers with grilled chicken and you get an entire grilled breast, great value. I also want to say that the whole salad- which was enormous, was only $13!! We both got appetizers also- she got the garlic cheese bread and said it was tasty. Sunday afternoon in Spokane and my husband and I were hungry! We didn't want to go downtown to eat because we thought it would be busy and didn't want to pay for parking so we decided to try Elk Public House. It was recommended by a local who is also a colleague of mine. We arrived at around 1:15 and the place was crowded. Luckily we were able to find a booth right away. The vibe was good with football games being played on the TVs. There was a large bar area and lots of seating. The service was a bit slow and it took about 5 minutes to actually be able to put our order in.The menu had some good options for my salad craving along with sandwich options, soups, wraps and entrees. They had a nice selection of beers, wines and cocktails too! My colleague recommended the Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich so my husband and I ordered that to share along with a whole order of the Southwestern Taco Salad. We didn't add any protein to it, which is extra and it might have made the salad a bit heartier. We both ordered waters to drink and my hubby ordered the No Li Wrecking Ball Stout which he said was good. The food took a bit to come out but it was a busy Sunday so I get that. So for my review of the food...The sandwich was so tasty! The chicken was tender and juicy and the breading wasn't heavy nor was it greasy. It was served on a fresh brioche bun and had roasted poblanos, jack cheese, red onion, lettuce (which didn't state that on the menu but we didn't mind it) and a scrumptious honey cream cheese. We had a choice of potato chips (jalapeño, salt & vinegar, regular), potato salad or roasted corn pasta (which was recommended but my husband loves jalapeño chips so that's what we ordered). I would order this again in a heartbeat and probably try the corn pasta salad and ask for additional honey cream cheese! Our salad was enormous and a half order might have worked but I was a bit hungry (I didn't eat breakfast) so it was perfect. The salad was good (actually, just ok) and it reminded me of a salad I would get in a cafeteria. The corn was canned and the cheese tasted like shredded cheese from a bag. The chips were probably crushed no-name Doritos and the salad dressing wasn't anything spectacular.The romaine was fresh and not wilted so that part was a plus. I eat/order a ton of salads so I will disclose that I am very picky about my salads so this review may be a bit harsh for some but for those of you who aren't picky about your salads may be ok with this salad. The service wasn't the best either. Refilling our waters took awhile and we had to ask for it. Our server was not attentive to our needs in that regard and took a bit of time to come by and ask if our food was good. All in all I would definitely come back for the chicken sandwich. read more

Such a nice experience. Had a great meal with super service. It's real nice inside and didn't have any issues with parking.

Went to the Elk for a late dinner. It was seat yourself and at first our waitress was very helpful. However, during the meal she would disappear. We'd try to get another beer, but she'd be over talking it up with other customers or outside doing something. Apparently there is only one person in the place that can pour beer. When we did get another beer it was the wrong one, so had to wait to try to get her attention to get another. So - very bad service. As for the food, it was good. The appetizer we had was whipped feta and it was great. The smash burger was good, and the quesadilla was also good. Expensive though. I'd go back if it the service improved. This was a Friday night BTW, so one would think service would be better. read more

We ordered 8 take-out orders and they got all of our orders correct. I had our runner place the order and pick it up for us so I cannot comment on anything else. We stopped in here for a late night dinner after flying into Spokane. The food, beer, and service were excellent! I asked for a recommendation of local IPA's and was steered clearly to two choices that I loved. Our server mentioned they were featured on DDD and so I chose one of the dishes that Guy tried, the BBQ Chicken quesadilla. It was quite tasty and served with a side of smoked onion sauce for dipping! We shared the Kung Pao cauliflower and that was a hit as well. I also got to try the gumbo that a friend ordered and it was great! The place had a great atmosphere and the locals were friendly. This is a place I come back to a bunch if I were from these parts! I came by Elk Public House with a friend who had been here before after visiting a nearby museum. We grabbed a table and ordered some wine by the glass before ordering dinner. The white wine we ordered was just okay. For dinner I had the Sante Fe Chicken sandwich. I wanted to order the Spicy Chicken sandwich without the pickled jalapeño, but our server suggested the Sante Fe instead. I went with the recommendation, and it worked out for the most part. I'm not a big pepper person in general, so I ended up picking off the poblanos. I was able to get half a side order or corn pasta salad and half a side order of salt & vinegar potato chips. I think it's pretty neat to be able to split sides like that. While both sides were generous portions, they were also pretty salty and tangy. It wasn't bad, it was just a lot. I'd really like to come back here and order something different. When the weather is nice the patio is very inviting. Parking is mostly nearby street parking, so if you don't live in this neighborhood, be prepared to walk a few blocks from where you parked to get here. read more

The guy who has been at the bar for at least a year or two now when we go in for lunch is so consistently rude that we've decided never to go back after patronizing The Elk for over a decade. He is curt and unfriendly, never wants to discuss menu items or drink selection, and even walks away while we're talking to him - he seriously does that often. He's so rude that for a while we found it pretty funny. We called him "angry Elton" because he looked like Elton John. After several encounters, however, it just wasn't funny anymore. The last time we were there he charged me for a beer I sent back because I didn't like it, got our side dish wrong, then got it wrong again after we sent it back. He seems to dislike the patrons, or his job in general, and no amount of trying to be pleasant to him or engage him in conversation is reciprocated at all. I contacted the owner, but he was dismissive and only offered a minimal apology. The Elk has just become unpleasant. For a long time we noticed a vibe creeping in of a place where staff and their friends hanging out at the bar are welcome, and everyone else is a nuisance. Then this guy gets hired and works there for years. He must be related to the owner. You can read the reviews here and on Google and see very clearly which ones are referring to this guy. I haven't been here in a long time but we recently moved back and thought we would go here for lunch. When we arrived the lobby was moderately full but we were seated right away. Our waitress came over and wiped our table and got our drink orders and gave us a little time to check out the menu. We asked her suggestion on what they were known for and she said the French dip and their pasta salad. So we ordered the French dip and on her recommendation the spicy buffalo chicken sandwich. Everything arrived quickly and looked great. The French dip was rich and came with a great au jus dip but the pasta salad was very flat. The noodles were nicely cooked and the corn added a bit of sweetness but the salad itself lacked seasoning. I was hoping for better with the buffalo chicken burger. It looked great when it arrived and it smelled wonderful but there was absolutely no heat to it. It was nicely cooked and it came with fresh vegetables on a beautifully soft bun but again the pasta salad just tasted very watery. Our server, Bryan, was great and attentive, the place is relaxed, and has great atmosphere. The evening began with a cocktail. The cocktail was called the "Candied Pear." It was (or at least seemed) quite strong. The cocktail consisted of Grey Goose Pear vodka, Brandy, with just a splash of lemon juice and dusted with cinnamon on top. From there, we opted for the EPH Margarita, to try and help us drink the first Candied Pear cocktail. Probably wasn't the best idea, but we thought it was a great idea at the time and it seemed to work. My friend and I did eventually order food and it was tasty! My friend order the Spicy Chicken sandwich with the roasted corn pasta salad. The chicken sandwich is a buttermilk marinated chicken breast that is pan-fried and topped with melted American cheese and served on a toasted brioche bun with pickled jalapeno, Sriracha mayo, and iceberg lettuce. She stated that it was probably the best chicken sandwich she has ever had. I ordered the 74th St. Gumbo and it was everything they say, including "hot!" The gumbo had a nice dark color to it and consisted of chicken, sausage, shrimp, and vegetables with a little rice. It came with a couple slices of bread to dunk in the juice. There were four of us. Arrived at 4:30, seated by the main entrance. Place wasn't crowded, so we thought we'd be in and out before the dinner rush. The music was loud, the AC was cold. In retrospect wish we sat outside. There was a lot of waitstaff, but they weren't super quick on their feet meaning they were laid back and casual. We placed our orders at 4:35. A wait. And we'd refilled our drinks maybe 2-3 times by then. Ordered two appetizers and four sandwiches. Appetizers came out in 10-15 minutes. Our sandwiches came out at 5:25. A little over an hour after we were seated. Service was slow and it didn't seem like the waiters cared much about our experience. It just felt like we were there longer than we should have been. Wow wow wow. From out of town and happened to pick this place because it was the closest one to where we were. Upon walking in a local recognized my friend and said we picked one of the best places to eat. You seat yourself here but the service was the best I've ever experienced. They were patient as we decided what to order looking at other google and yelp pictures. I think our server was Marcus. What we loved was that he didn't ask if we needed refills but saw that we needed them and said he'd grab them for us without us needing to ask. He also knew the names of the regulars in the booth behind us. I ordered the French Dip Royale with Corn Pasta and my friend ordered a salad. My meat was cooked so well I was pleasantly surprised and the pasta went so well together. My friend said the salad was good too. Would recommend if you're visiting Spokane. read more

We were told about The Elk by a friend who went Gonzaga years ago. At first we thought it was going to be just average but it was just what we were looking for. From the multiple dark beers ( no more IPAs please!) and not a giant menu but good options, we were thrilled. Wait staff were friendly and attentive. We had the hamburger and the Mediterranean burger. Both were delicious and the sides were terrific (especially the corn salad). Really great little place! read more

I went for my first time recently, with much anticipation after being a frequent flier at The Porch. I couldn't be more disappointed. After waiting a few minutes to be acknowledged, the server/bartender in a snippy tone told us the kitchen was closing in 2 mins, before keeping us waiting to order another 10 minutes. Luckily we were able to get a food order in. Then waited an additional several minutes to even get a drink order in. Then completely ignored. No return trip, no check up on food, no offer of another drink (empty glasses), no anything. We were 2 of the only 3 people sitting at the entire bar. We literally had to ask a separate employee for the check after sitting at the bar, again, WAITING. I'll stick to Idaho locations moving forward. I'm conflicted on how to rate The Elk. I ordered their Grilled Lamb and Traditional Reuben sandwiches with corn pasta as a side for each. Grilled Lamb Sandwich - Absolutely terrible. French roll was COLD and barely toasted, the lamb was over cooked, dry, under seasoned, and also cold, the tzatziki was spread without love to the edges, and I felt like I just got robbed of $16 because this sandwich was definitely not worth it, a Subway sandwich would've easily tasted better. 1/5 Traditional Reuben Sandwich - After taking some bites of the grilled lamb sandwich I switched over to trying the Reuben with low expectations. The Reuben was actually pretty tasty! Rye bread was light, warm, and toasted, there was a solid amount of salty and savory corned beef with crispy outer edges (tasted like bacon!), sauerkraut helped bring some nice moisture to the sandwich... but could've been fermented longer. Overall, a pretty tasty sandwich that I would probably order again. 4/5 Corn pasta salad - meh, I'm indifferent. Simple side dish to come with the sandwich, but nothing to rave about. 3/5 read more

This place is great! For my first time at this restaurant I was very impressed with how they run the place during these times while still providing great service and high quality food. We had outside seating and the weather was near perfect. I had the steak yakisoba which was one of the best yakisobas I've ever had and a hard apple cider which was also very good. I covered my meal and my friend's and was pleasantly suprised how affordable it was to dine here because I would have gladly paid much more for our dinner. Had lunch here yesterday and it was delicious! Very very busy restaurant which means it's delicious and wonderful. If you have been to the two seven you'll notice a similar menu. Both restaurants are awesome! Some had the Cuban sandwich and they thought it was very juicy and delicious. Others had the smash burger which they enjoyed very much. Juicy flavorful hamburger patties! The jambalaya is a bit spicy but delicious at least that's what our friend from England said. I grew up in Brown's Addition and The Elk has always been a fun place for food and drink. We ate there yesterday with our four year old and saw lots of families too. We wished we would have been offered a kid's menu which we saw other tables getting only after we ordered our daughter a meal from the adult menu. Otherwise, service was friendly and quick, the food was fresh and yummy. We got the smash burger with corn salad (which was tasty but a little spicy), the Santa Fe sandwich with potato salad (yum!) and our daughter got the grilled cheese (with bacon) and tomato soup which was definitely the highlight of the dish, I kept dipping my burger into it! We love how the restaurant is open and affirming of all walks of life as evidenced by their custom tee shirts and hats as well as the variety of folks they employ- we felt at home and welcomed even though we brought our toddler. read more

I got the swimming angel because Kacey recommended it and it was one of the best dishes I have had in awhile!! I highly recommend it with the with panko chicken!!
