I have yet to set foot in the 'bazaar' so my review is based solely on the thrift part of this store...and let me just say, I goddamn love this place. Setting foot in this store is like taking an express train to crazytown. Screaming children, meth addicts taking their tops off and then getting escorted out by police...it just doesnt get any better. Or does it? How about a vintage Louis Vuitton speedy bag for $5.99? Hot pink and gold Vita bangle for $1.99? DVF skirt for $6.99? or the piece de resistance: Red patent Simple 85 Louboutins for $6.99 Yeah the place is gross and the people are creeps. Yeah some of the clothes should really have been sent to the garbage dump. Yeah they like the number $39.99 for an Ann Taylor Loft dress circa 2001, but there are always diamonds in the rough if you spend enough time looking. If you get here early you can avoid the horror show that is the parking lot- most of the drivers there got their licenses out of cracker jack boxes- and there are far fewer screaming children running through the aisles. read more

Just writing a quick update from my previous review. This place got a makeover for the better! More cash registers, an open layout, and big plus...they now have FITTING ROOMS! No more trying on clothes by the end-of-the-aisle mirrors ;). Still the best place, in my opinion, for a bargain (especially on holidays). On their most recent holiday sale, I bought 12 dresses and 3 tops for a total of $50. Considering how casual dresses are around $16-24 at the mall, talk about getting the most bang for your buck. Thrift stores are either hit or miss depending on when you go. Sometimes you can't find anything, and then other days, it's like you hit a gold mine. Either way it's definitely a rush, and a big treasure hunt at Unique Thrift Store. Frugal shoppers unite! read more

I'm a thrift store junkie!. Unique is a HUGE place and one of my favorites! It is pretty well organized for the size of the place. They always have a sale going on and announce it often over the loudspeaker so you don't have to guess. They have a reward card for discounts on certain days. On major holidays there is always a huge sale- you can get great deals- but be prepared to battle through obnoxious crowds. My biggest problem with this place is that there are no dressing rooms. Women can be found trying stuff on in and at the end of aisles. This isn't a deal breaker, but can make buying items like jeans kinda sketchy. There is a huge parking lot, you might have to walk a few extra steps, but it's not bad. I rarely ever leave this place empty handed. read more

Its a thrift store situated in near a difficult intersection. If you are going North on Randolf you have to turn left onto Veirs Mill to access the shopping center. Because you cannot turn left or make a uturn at the next light where you would think would be the natural entrance for this place. Anyway they have a really nice sloped parking lot that makes it very interesting to push your shopping cart to the car. read more

Thrift shopping heaven. It just never ends... Shall I gush about the great flannel sheet sets I found for my kids, the J Crew and Polo casual pants that I found for my man, the never ending supply of toys and games for kids, or the navy Albert Nippon suit for me? No, maybe I should just keep this place on the low down because I dont want to have to share this find with others. It is always a great hunt that ends in results! If I need something, I check out Value Village first, then I feel ok looking elsewhere if I cant find it here first. Negatives: like any thrift store, buyer beware. Check the goods carefully first to ensure no missing parts, stains, etc. No returns as is industry standard. You have to sift through a lot of frogs to find your prince, but for me...that is the fun. read more

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this thrift store. I have spent hours in there looking at all of the stuff. They have a wide variety of everything, except furniture. They're clothing sections are well organized, but unfortunately they don't offer a dressing room. I love all the random stuff they have as well! This is a good place to buy kitchen wares and nick knacks. Their Bazaar is pretty typical with knock-off handbags and jewelry, although its closed on Tuesdays, which is usually the day I head down there. Decided to stop by today..... Thursdays are 25% off for members! I will say, this store is HUGE!!!! Please don't get the idea that you can just run in and out ---- you need to dedicate some serious time!!! It took me a while but I did finally find a few pieces that I would consider deals!!!! Brand new linen Banana Republic Navy Striped skirt with tags for 19.99. Trust me... I thought that was slightly high but decided to purchase it with the additional 25% off! I also find a leopard belt, leather and cow hair for 2.98---now I do consider that a great find!!! They have quite a few items that still have tags but they are higher in price... Understandably so!!!! The H&M stuff is overpriced!! I honestly think you could go straight to the store in the mall and get new items for the same price they have here! Unique Thrift Store is like a huge department store that sells all kinds of second hand goods. They sell used clothing, home goods, furniture, appliances, toys, books, electronics, bikes, treadmills, and practically anything you can think of. When the store first opened a few years ago, the prices were very low. Sadly with the rise in popularity and the financial success of the store, the prices aren't as great as they used to be and on some items border on unreasonable. Still, for the most part, buying used is generally cheaper than buying new. Some items are priced ridiculously low while some are priced way too high. If you look carefully and have a bit of luck, you might come away with some great deals, however. Because it's very popular, the place can get very crowded, particularly on Mondays when a 25% discount is offered on everything in the store and on certain holidays that fall on Mondays when everything is 50% off. On regular Mondays, and on any other day of the week for that matter, I like to come early in the morning when there's plenty of 'fresh' merchandise and when the crowds are still relatively thin. There are no dressing rooms, but there are several full-length mirrors available throughout the store so that you can try on the clothes before buying them. When I go shopping, I like to wear body fitting clothes (e.g., tights) under my regular clothes so that I can easily try on pants and tops. They accept credit cards with no minimum and always have plenty of registers open so you hardly ever have to wait in line - unless it is very busy. read more

You never know what treasures you can find if you have enough time and patience to sort through the well-organized aisles. A colorful pepper grinder and a beautiful decorative box in a bag for $1.99, why not? This place is hit or miss just like most thrift stores, but their selection is huge and prices are mostly fair if you know what you're doing. This place is an awesome resource for teachers looking to spice up their classrooms with unique materials with a small budget. The bazaar on the other hand, is just bizarre. If I could rate the bazaar separately from the thrift store, I would give the bazaar one star because it was creepy. Like the kind of creepy that had my husband steering me through by my elbow. Maybe it was the time of day we were there but we were the only customers and very few people seemed to speak English. To the point it was a little unnerving. On the brighter side (literally) the thrift store is an average thrift store. There are some things that are way overpriced but some good deals if you look around a bit. WASH whatever you buy! Common sense would have you do it anyway but please... wash whatever you buy!! (Please?) Like a Value Village (even the signage is the same, so I think they must be run by the same people?) but bigger than any Value Village (or Goodwill, or Red White & Blue, etc) I've ever seen. In this area I've only been to the one in College Park and the selection is definitely better and less picked-over. If you're a brand-name thrift shopper there isn't too much, though I did find one Nanette Lepore dress that still had the original $170 price tag on it on sale for $9.99. Unfortunately it was ugly and didn't fit. I ended up walking away with this crazy floral top, a brown purse, and some sunglasses. I saw some nice used furniture and tons of books. The housewares section was decent as well. As with most thrift stores a lot of the furniture and housewares were broken or chipped or scratched or somehow rendered unfit for purchase, but if you're handy you could have a field day in there. The other half of this place is the bazaar, which was honestly kind of disappointing. If the thrift store weren't attached I definitely wouldn't go back just for the bazaar. I'm glad I saw it, but I don't know if I'd ever want to buy something there unless I needed some cheap luggage. The 90-cent store was ok if you like 90-cent stores, there was one nice jewelry vendor, and one stand was selling bamboo and some other pretty Asian things. They had a section selling new furniture for pretty low prices, too. Most of it was the same old stuff you find at a flea market, though, and nothing to get excited about. Anyway, bottom line is this is one of the best of the "sorting through racks and racks of crap to find a great item that may or may not fit" thrift stores that I've seen, and it's definitely replacing the CP Value Village when I'm in the mood for this kind of thing. read more

Did not think the store or the bazaar was nothing too special at all. For us, it was too much to take in, all at once, especially the thrift store area. Went to the back (bazaar?) with the higher expectations and was hugely disappointed. While looking around back there a vendor claimed he was selling jeans from Brazil, those jeans were $70. My favorite thrift store in the area. I LOVE this place and make visits very frequently. I've purchased so many things from clothes to my great selection of cookbooks. Not to mention it's 25% off on Mondays and Thursday and a whopping 50% off on some holidays. Passing this spot on the way home every day over the course of a year turned me into a thrifter. The store is huge and has a bazaar on the other side. I never go to that side because well, the items are bazaar. Be prepared upon arrival as the store is usally crowded on the reduction days and there's a large selection of clothes. I've been to several other locations and I prefer this one. I even trucked all the way to VA and walked out empty handed. Talk about disappointment. I'd probably place the New Hamphire Ave location 2nd on my list. read more

I frequent thrift stores for books and designer duds for work, and this store didn't disappoint. They have probably the best selection of like-new hardcover books for thrift stores in this area, plus it's a buy 4, get 1 free deal! Also found a vintage Calvin Klein dress in near perfect shape, just needs a dry cleaning and we're good to go. Bring some patience though because there WILL be ladies with shopping carts blocking you, and unattended, shrieking children. There's also a funky indoor flea market in the other side of the building if you're ever in the market for a Pope Francis coffee mug, etc. read more

While yes this is one of the biggest thrift stores in area (department store thrift) I would not recommend this messy overpriced thrift store to anyone...mostly due to the stingyness of the ownership and how they have changed the store for the worse price range. My friend did signs for the owners of this business and off hand I know they are all about money and it is not helping any charities or anything like that. Over the years they have started to overprice everything to an extreme level. Alot of times you will find brand new item with tags priced for more than the tag price of the item brand new at store. Last time I was in here, I saw a 3 inch small ugly stuffed animal that looked like it had been dragged out of a car window it was so brown and dirty, one ear was missing and the price was 3.00. WHY? It was obviously trash. Noone would want to give that to their kid...and about 100 more next to it. I found a sewing machine-half broken, no chord and missing parts for almost 100.00!! I looked it up online and found it going for 25.00 on ebay and 100 brand new with all pieces! My friend told me they look everything up on the internet and ebay and label the prices at that range--in this case..its not a thrift store! These items are being donated for free. Its all a pure profit for ownership. I always feel like I am in a spanish speaking country when Im in there too. I am surprised at the reviews but then again it is a busy place for alot of the latino folks living in that area. I am disgusted at some of the items I see in this store and it is so dirty. How this thrift store has so high ratings seriously is beyond me, there are two words that best describe this place which are CHAOTIC and OVERPRICED! Everything is thrown everywhere, shoes and bags on the floor, I couldn't even access the toy section because toys were everywhere and kids in the middle of the isle playing with them, so many people and they are rude bumping into you and giving you no personal space when you are trying to shop, everything is overpriced! beaten up shoes from target priced at $19.99? However, we have had quite a few bad experiences bringing nice things home and then being unable to get the sticky residue from the price stickers off. As a crafter/sewer, I love thrifting with friends for dresses to 'refashion'. I felt like I exhausted my fave thrift store one month, so I popped on down to Unique and was surprised by the size! Huge store. Or two stores, I guess, combined into a massive joint-but-separate type store. Tiny dress section!!! Very picked-over and disappointing for how large this place is. They have a bazaar in the middle of the two stores, which I didn't dare step foot in...I'm so bad at saying no, I'd probably end up buying a radiator cover or some shit I don't need. The customer service left a lot to be desired here. They didn't take credit cards in half the lanes when I was there, and to cross from one store side to the other, you have to check your paid merchandise at this little 'locker' place, but nobody was there for 10 minutes to take my stuff! Oh, and the prices were way higher than a thrift store should be. Like practically retail price for off-brand, used clothing. Kind of defeats the purpose of thrifting! This place wasn't too memorable, so I'll probably just wait a month for my usual place to update their stock. read more

Unique Bazaar is just one of those places you HAVE to go see. Its like a department sized thrift store, multi-family tag sale and seedy street vendor, rolled up into one HUGE ball of fun. One half is a huge thrift store with everything from aisle after aisle of clothes, shoes, furniture, decor, jewelry, homewares, kitchen equipment, electronics and more..the other half is divided up into individual stalls that sell everything and I mean everything including but not limited to cheap lycra clubbing gear, pirated DVD's, knock off Prada bags, lightly used shoes, quincenera dresses, $5 hair cuts, perfume, wigs, incense, drug lord furniture...you get the idea. Its a crazy zany mess that is awesome to go to with a few friends and just wander around. Also a perfect place if you need a used wedding dress, cheap suit or matching bedazzled jogging suit for a costume party. Just remember it might be beneficial to bring some Purell. read more

I have been going to this thrift store for about 11 years ,and I have donated alot of stuff to it.I like the fact that they try to help less fortunate people get work at this place.It really sounds good. However the managers close the lines when you are still waiting in them, or as soon as you walk up to them! You then have to go to a MUCH longer line, behind someone with a full shopping cart! When you complain, they say there is nothing they can do. Also the prices are not bargin prices. I have seen used shoes sell for 35 dollars! See GOOD people donate to Unique thrift with a good heart, to have that item go to a good cause. Unique thrift sells the donated item for a profit, used to train people. I used to donate alot, but I myself have come to see that I can, and you can, take your items Directly to your local rescue mission, and they will give the item directly to the needy, not sell it to the general public. read more

I'm already upset with this location! At all other Unique's in the DC area, when you donate bags of clothing you receive 30% off on non sale days. This one does not. Ok so I am new to the area and I decided to check it out based on everyones reviews. I agree that there are some gross things that should have been thrown away like mens underwear (totally gross) kids potttys (just cause i know they don't clean them). But since it is so close I have been going at least once a week. So far here is what I found a Thomas train table for $15 almost new only one chip on the side of the table you can't beat that when they retail for almost 200. A little tikes picnic table with no fading for $7 and kids Pottery Barn curtains for less than $3 a panel. I have also found a few other good toys for my son. Of course when I get home I go crazy with the lysol before giving them to him. I also found about 6 Dr. Seuss book for less than a dollar each. I have to say that when they don't know what the brand really is the prices are really good but when they see something that they think they know the brand they overprice it. ( i saw a red flyer wagon yesterday for $60) Parking is crazy on Mondays and you do see some odd people but its not so bad that you can't go. read more

I love going to this store. You can find some nice stuff BUT they price these items WAY too high. I could understand the prices if these were items they BOUGHT and resold. But theyre not. These are items that people gave to them FOR FREE. I also understand that the money goes to the charities they support, their employees and space rental but come on! Some of these items are not worth the high price tag.
