I am a fan of this place because it is SO BIG! You really have to have the patience to deal with lots of people and children, unless you come during a dead time which I couldn't even tell you when that would be since EVERY TIME I come here, it's jam packed! Additionally, you have to be able to deal with grime. It can be a little stinky and dirty at times... but come on..... deal with it. You are digging through super cheap used clothing. What do you expect... Because of their large selection, I almost always find something whether it's for the house or clothing. But you just have to be in the mood to look, and you can't expect to find something during your first visit. It took me multiple visits before actually getting great finds. When I speak of specifically this thrift store I refer to it as a "crappy Kmart", in a good way. The place is super organized and you can shop here as if it is a Kmart. Chances are you're going to find something similar to what you're looking for. WHAT MAKES THIS PLACE GREAT... is that there are 2 large thrift stores connected. One side is Unique and the other side is Value Village, which are the same business. So there are 2 Kmart sized thrift stores connected. There's a crumby little "market" in between the two, but if you need generic car charges or knock off bras I wouldn't waste my time there. Granted this place was AMAZING back in the day, but since they've changed their pricing stickers and organized the store, I haven't found as many amazing things as I usually do. As with any Value Village/Unique Thrift if you get a Member's appreciation card (free) everything is 25% on Thursdays. Every Monday everyone gets 25% off. AND when there's a 3 day weekend, like memorial day or labor day, that Monday EVERYTHING IS 50% OFF!!! Although, on the half off days it used to be a mad house, now it's just very busy. Do yourself a favor and don't go the Tuesday after a half of Monday there will be NOTHING left. read more

This place is so overwhelming its like the Costco or thrift stores. With that being said I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was really busy. IT has three parts, two thrift stores and one flea market. They even have a restaurant! There was so way tacky wonderfulness there ie velvet paintings, light up Jesus, etc. but there was so much to see I couldnt concentrate on just one. INteresting mix of people. Some lady was walking around with her nipple hanging out, I guess she was breastfeeding but it crepped me out. Please put that away. I did get some good clothes, it looks like a lot of their stuff is new from Kohls, etc. Great organization and easy to find brands and styles. IT is worth a ride to check out things but be prepared to see ALOT Of stuff and have a lot of people around you. read more

25% off Mondays are back for the summer. Yay! Still, DO NOT go here if you will need to use the restroom. The health department should be notified of the terrible restroom conditions rife with fecal cells! In all three ladies restrooms, ALL the trashcans were overflowing with poop-covered toilet paper - some sticking to the wall. Not something I am accustomed to viewing! I understand that this is a practice (not to flush toilet paper) in some foreign countries. It made my stomach upset. Of the three bathrooms one had no toilet seat - it was sitting on the floor next to the toilet. In the 2nd, the toilet was stopped up and nonworking. Just sickening. The clothes are priced high IMO for what is offered. Some items I could get new on sale online for the same or better prices than what Unique Thrift is asking. Still, it is easier not to have to scour online and wait for deals if you need something right away then there are some good deals to be found. I won't go back to this store just in case nature calls & I'd have to revisit those germ-filled restrooms. read more

This place is hugeeee! I try so hard to be a thrift shopper because I know so many people that are amazing finders... unfortunately I'm just not one of them. And it's really hard for me to wear someone's old clothes. Very organized by sex and style, very easy to find what you're looking for. Problem is you still have to look through everythinggggg. There were so name brands in there, you just got to look. Accidently came here on a Monday and holiday and wow! was it crazy. They had police outside and everything! YUK! I was excited to come here as a friend recommended this place. What was she thinking?! potentially this could have been a good idea, it's a place of many compartments and even shops that sell new chinese stuff I think, but I don't care about trinkets, just came looking for something unique and of quality, walked away with nothing. First thing I noticed was the dirt. Just the kind of thrift shopping you would hate... perhaps if you dig enough you can find a treasure maybe in the china/kitchen area... as for the clothes... dirty, the worst of the worst type of oldie's selections I even saw dirty white socks for like $3 dollars!! what?! they looked gross and you can buy new ones for $1 a pair if you know where to look. wow... just a filthy place... they even sell old cellphones that you are not allowed to touch... why would I want to get something from the ancient times anyways? at times I just wanted to walk out just based on the filth and other times I just wondered if this was the place for illegal immigrants to get their basic things since it's the closest thing they have near where they settled? just not what I expected from a "Unique" shop. I have made some great finds at unique, including: -A real down jacket that is actually my size, for $10 -Super comfy snow boots that are warm enough for DC's winter nights, $5 -Cute bags, $3 and $4 -Really warm wool mittens and hats HOWEVER, they have an incredibly lame policy that will not allow them to price & sell, on the same day, any items that don't currently have a price tag. In order to re-price an item that has had its tag removed while on the shelves, they need to wait for the "pricers" to come in, which will probably not happen on the same day that you're shopping. Why can't Unique's management empower their floor employees to assign prices based on their knowledge of similar products? Around Halloween, my friend found the perfect component to her costume, but since it had no price they couldn't sell it to us. I can understand that this policy helps ensure that true antiques or other valuables aren't sold at excessively low prices, but it doesn't make sense when we're talking about basic items such as clothing. read more

I love this store..I have been a customer here for 3years and still havent got tired of coming here. On Mondays they have 25% off which is open to the public and Thursdays they have 25% off to all V.I.P. cardholders. This place is actually two thift stores in one plus they have a variety of other small stores in between. I love the Unique / Value Village stores in the Maryland and Northern Virginia area - I have been going to them for too many years to even remember. But their prices have become ridiculously high and I don't go near as much as I used to. When you ask for $15 for a pair of blue jeans that were donated to you, or $8 for a woman's cotton top from Kohls, I'm done. And to now price each book separately (and ridiculously high), and to stop giving the punch tickets for donations so that we can get up to a 30% discount is totally greedy. I only go on some 50% off days because I can't justify their crazy prices. You've lost your appeal and should be ashamed. read more

Ok, so I went in this place with no initial thoughts but when I walked in I was amazed. This place is like a thrift store and a bazaar all in one. Its crazy. Ive never seen a thrift store this big. I found a few goodies but was limited on time. For the most part the store is well organized and its easy to find clothing items. Didnt venture to the furniture section as it looked scary.... just a heap of old furniture. There are lots and lots of Spanish speaking people here so if you dont speak Spanish... brush up before you go. I will go back there. Its pretty awesome. We call this one "double your pleasure, double your money" or "Double-Double" for short. If you are a thrift store fan, this is a good place to knock back a few hours and part with some cash. Take a friend and your cell phones and split up, scouring each side, texting photos of the cool/interesting/creepy/useful/outrageous things you find. Try stuff on in the dressing rooms if you can find a free/clean one. Where else can you find a drum set, a flat screen computer monitor, some cozy pajama/lounge pants and practice French or Spanish? As thrift shops go, this one is great. I just bought four shirts/sweaters I can wear to work and one pair of dress shoes for under $20. Not bad. As others have mentioned, it's HUGE. They have separate sections, for example, for shorts, capri pants, slacks, jeans, and I think perhaps one other type of pants. They also have a decent selection of suits and plenty of shoes. The store sorts women's pants by small, medium, and large sizes (and perhaps extra large?). So, within one size you'll have to look through everything to find your particular size, but it's not too bad. This isn't some funky, hip boutique. It's in a strip mall and I'm pretty sure it has florescent lights. If you are looking for retro/vintage shop that charges $50 for clothes they found in real thrift stores, you're looking for the wrong place. If you're looking for a huge selection of cheap clothes, you've come to the right place. Everything is also bilingual (English and Spanish), which I think is great. read more

Unique is a great go to thrift shop. First know that it is truly a THRIFT SHOP, not a consignment or vintage shop. You must be willing to dig, but there is such a huge selection here you are bound to find something. There are two huge sides that are independently run and a little market in the middle with vendors selling cell phones, religious items, jewelry, etc. SALES: Every Monday is 25% off. Also every Thursday is 25% with a card you can get for free on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays. In general it behooves you to go early in the day on any day, but especially sale days. Tons of clothes, shoes, records, house goods, appliances. Lots of dressing rooms with doors and mirrors -- this alone puts it above the other nearby thrift warehouses on University Blvd. Great selection of jewelry, but gold pieces can be overpriced. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS with the first market store in the center "Isahiah" (mobile phone accessories). They charge MORE THAN TWICE for products sold 2 doors down the hall. They KNOW that they are scamming you and WILL NOT REFUND your purchase. The lady that works there is EXTREMELY SMUG about it also. Their products are not price labeled and there is no sign that there is no refund. $35 for a screen protector when the shop down the hall is $14! TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE and DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY to ISAHIAH/ISAHAIAH!!!! I was almost super petty and stood there to tell everyone looking at products to go down the hall. read more

This thrift store has almost everything. From larger pieces of furniture to small knick knacks. Be warned that many items are overpriced. Small coin purses were priced at $2 to $4. Way to high for a thrift shop. Unique also sells some small items in plastic baggies that are combined in a nonsensical way. Often you want one or two items in the bag, but get stuck with other useless items that are bundled together. I purchased a bag that had brass bells and a brass cup....problem, none of the bells had clappers! So beware they are willing to make money off buyers with items that should have gone in the trash, not the selling floor! read more

I love thrifting here, it can get crowded even on a weekday. It's a hit or miss on what you can find here, so don't come here with high expectations. I found some brand name clothing for my kids, some home decor stuff (old wooden racquets for an embroidery project) and kitchen utensils. It is mostly very organized. An interesting store with a funky smell. It shares the same entrance to the same building as another thrift store. They both do 25% off on Mondays and Thursdays. For Unique, you need to apply a card to enjoy the Thursday 25% off. Both store sells similar things. I've never read Stephen King's 'Needful Things,' but I imagine it was written after a visit to this place. Simply because it's the only thrift store that pretty much grants wishes. I've found so much random things there that I had been just recently pining for. Like a phono preamp, punk rock records (Really! The Ramones, the Meatmen!), guitar amps and a myriad of other stuff. The place is huge, and they offer discounts on Mondays, and if you've got the member card, also on Thursday. These guys know what they have, so some things are priced higher than a normal thrift store, but still super cheap, especially on 25% off Mondays. Basically this is the greatest place ever if you've got the thrifting eye. read more

I've been a thrift store junkie for years, and Unique and its adjacent sister, Value Village, are like heaven for me. I love well-made clothes, but I can't afford to buy new brand names clothing, so I turn to these two stores to satisfy my fashion on a budget needs. On Mondays everything in the store is 25% off. On Thursday, everything is 25% off with a VIP card. Holidays, everything is 50% off. I've found out recently that the Sunday before a Monday holiday is 50% off with a VIP card (I strongly advise applying for a VIP card--you can sign up for them on days without discounts). On the holidays that offer a 50% discount, it gets quite chaotic and the lines can get ridiculous. It's best to come when doors first open to avoid the worst crowds and get a better selection of stuff. I also recommend calling ahead to find out what time the store opens. The Sunday before the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday I found out they opened the store at 9am, even though they normally open at 11am on Sundays. If you want a 50% off discount without the crowds, I'd aim for opening time on those days. Also, I'd avoid using carts on busy days. They have these pull-on baskets available, which are more convenient and easier to manage through the crowds. You can fit a mountain of clothes in there if you take the hangers off. Having said that, it can be nice to shop on days when there are no discounts. There's a greater amount of higher quality clothing and fewer shoppers around. Personally I don't use the fitting rooms (they smell weird, are very cramped, and have limits on how many clothes you can bring to try on).. There are long mirrors throughout the store you can use. I wear leggins and a tank top underneath my clothes so that I can easily try on fitted clothes without exposing myself indecently in public. It can take patience (and experience!) to go through the stuff in the store to find gems, but it's well worth the effort. A friend of mine found a photography lens for less than $50 that he later resold for close to $1,000. You've got to be open-minded about the whole experience. Some days you may go home empty-handed and some days you may just hit the jackpot. read more

Nothing about this place had a wow factor for me, except the fact that someone finally shouted over the intercom to get the hangers off the floor. You couldn't shop without clothes falling off the hangers. The selection was horrible. I have been to better thrift stores and wouldn't recommend this one. Their sister-store Value Village is right next door and also offers the same discount days. I'd recommend becoming a VIP for a 25% discount every Thursday and other event sale days. Not your gold mine thrift store, but certainly interesting. It's run by, and patronized by, primarily immigrants. Primarily Spanish speaking, but also Asian and Caribbean (and other places). It's unclear to me what exactly is going on in this massive building -- there appear to be different parts to the store. The left-hand side is a thrift store. The right hand side is a cross between a Big Lots and a South American bazaar of crappy stuff from China. I mostly enjoyed walking around the thrift store (I've never enjoyed Latin American bazaars full of crappy stuff from China). There are some gems to be had -- and definitely, as other reviewers have noted, some stuff where you can tell the person pricing it didn't know what they were doing. I saw several nice brand name items that were priced as though they were new. But it was random.. case in point: I found a couple treasures -- including a nice Thermarest camping pad. Clearly the person pricing this didn't know that these go for $75+ new... because it was priced at $1.99. I bought, and it's great! I also bought a ton of cute little girls' clothes because I was taking a trip to Haiti and visiting a dance troop. I would have put my own kids in these clothes - they were adorable and clean and cheap. And I had fun looking through their kitchen stuff. They seemed to have a lot of dish and glass sets -- nearly full. Some Crate and Barrel stuff and Pottery Barn, and priced appropriately. I wouldnt come here a ton because I didn't see that much cute stuff for me... but I am excited for my next stroll through Unique. read more

I think maybe I'm spoiled in regards to thrift stores. I just moved to the area from SoCal and the thrifts there can be pretty sensational. I would say that the Unique (and Value Village which are connected) is an o.k. store. The selection is very good. It's the prices that bring the rating down. Some things are pretty good deals - but others are like WTF? A winter coat (North Face) with STAINS and clearly OLD was $150??? Seriously? Yet I found a Coach purse for $14.99. One thing I go to thrift stores for is books - and the price here is out of line with what I'm used to. $1.50 for a paperback and $2.50 or so for a hardcover is pretty hefty IMHO. Picking up a couple is no big deal but originally I had quite a few in my cart - and took them out. I go to thrifts with a budget in mind. I have an e reader, a good group of friends, and the library so 6 paperbacks for $10 is not gonna convince me to shop here too often. As always YMMV. The third star I gave is for selection. This place is huge - if you take the time to scavenge I think you might find something. I found a scarf and a few books - but my daughter found a vest and some items for her Halloween costume (not from the overpriced costume store in the front with new items BTW) so it was a win. If you like Pho there is a nice place around the corner of the strip mall -- $16 got us two bowls of Pho and some appetizers. Not bad and it was tasty! read more

I checked this place out for the 1st time. It is huge. I went to the bottom floor where they had knick knacks...toys...and movies/music. I found a lot of stuff. I buy and sell vintage things so i was surprised on my finds. Found vintage toys...such as GI Joe vehicles....MALL MADNESS board game...original Ouija Board...Bon Jovi/ Poison vhs and cassette tapes...and lastly found a Wayne Gretzky table top hockey game for $5....checked in ebay..sells for $300. Winning! Place has a typical thrift strore vibe to it..dusty...but thats to be expected. Would def come back again.... read more

I actually came here to find some picture frames and old books but to my surprised they were way over priced for vintage goods. Personally think this place is a rip off for what you get. I'm not a fatshionista, but I'm fat and I love clothes. Unique has a ton of plus-size options to choose from. As I said about the UTS in VA: "Unfortunately everything over a Large/14 is considered XL and grouped in one category - so 16s and 32s were side-by-side. This makes things challenging... but I like the hunt. Maybe nobody wanted clothes in my fat size, but I found tons to choose from from generic brands like Avenue, Lane Bryant, Torrid, Land's End, Roamans and others. [...]I saw the usual fat lady flower prints and rhinestone buttons, but also trendier, more modern options. The dress selection is horrible (think rayon tank dresses that fall below your calf) and the shoes are not categorized well, but separates were spot on and there were TONS of skirts." For some reason, I decided to go in here on Labor Day because they usually do a 50% off the entire store sale on holidays. What I didn't know what that everyone else had the same idea. The name if the store caught my attention so one weekend I decided to check this place out to see what thay had to offer. When I walked in I was surprised that the store didnt have that stale scent in the air that most thrift stores have. The place is huge, they have a few flea market type stores that sell jewerly, new undergarments, electronic gadgets etc. The store was well organized and there is plenty of space to shop and explore without bumping into people. The prices are kind high compared to other thrift shops. I didn't see any food vendors inside the store but there are a few resturants nearby. read more

Fabulous finds at this store (so good I can't tell you). It was well organized and fun to look around. The prices could be a little lower. One complaint is that I bought a wooden puzzle for my son and they had wrapped it in packing tape. So when I pulled the tape off it pulled some of the paint on the puzzle with it. Also some other price stickers were hard to get off the glassware. I'll still be coming back often. read more

Best thrift store in the area. I've found many treasures here. Don't buy books here, as you can buy books at the Wheaton Library for $1 (vs. 3-15 at Unique). Kitchen stuff (and wine-themed stuff) is great to find here. Clothes is 50/50, as with any thrift store. If you're willing to go through all the stuff, you'll most likely find something you want. Being in a fairly wealthy area of the country, you have to realize that donations here ARE above-par for most thrift stores. Best part about this store? It's twice as big as the one on Viers Mill. My only gripe is that the "discount days" seem to change regularly, and they always fall on a day when I'm not able to come to the store. Well played, Unique... This thrift store has pretty decent quality stuff, but you do have to dig. It has better quality than value village in college park, but it is also more expensive. I stick to the thrift store and avoid the bazaar, which has no shortage of tacky and useless items for sale. On Mondays that are also holidays, everything is 50% off in the thrift store, which is great if you don't mind being super cramped and fighting for things. It is seriously almost impossible to first find a space in the parking lot, and then move around the store due to all the people milling about with huge grocery carts of stuff (how much do you need?!). Other than that, it is worth looking through. read more
